Mantra in Staffordshire Moorlands

We passed by this place before but weren't impressed by how it looked outside. However, we heard great things about the food, so the three of us decided to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised! The food was fantastic, the service was great; the staff was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was also really nice. We'll definitely come back to this awesome restaurant.

Lovely and friendly staff.. We went as big group of people ( 11 of us) and we got big table straight away. Amazing food and service. We were on a road trip, and if we will be near that place again, we would definitely stop there again. Cheese and garlic bread was the best we ever had.

We have driven past on several occasions,but we thought the outside appearance did not inspire us,but we have received very good reports regarding the food,so the three of us made it our first visit. The food and service was amazing, very friendly staff,and professional,the atmosphere was also surprisingly very good,we will definitely be returning to this excellent restaurant.

It was my first visit, and I must say their customer service was outstanding. The food tasted absolutely delicious. I was truly impressed by both the quality of the dishes and the exceptional attentiveness of the staff. Highly recommended!

Visited The Mantra for an Afternoon curry as per usual the food was spot on the service was great the owners are always welcoming and friendly this is now our go to restaurant 10/10

Visited on Saturday lunchtime to try the New Weekend Lunch Menu. Mains are £8.75 I was lucky enough to enjoy the 2-4-1 offer on Mains. I had Chicken Kadai which came with rice ands Singaporean Garlic Chicken which came with rice. The meat and sauce portions, ie the curry portions, are on the smallish side, the rice portions are medium to large If I hadn't had the 2-4-1 offer I would've gone hungry. Paying full price does not really represent value for money for a small portion! The food itself was okay, but not Excellent. In fact it was rather forgettable. It came to my table seven minutes after ordering, so the food must have been be pre-prepared in pots, frozen and microwaved. Definitely NOT prepared from scratch! I was the only person dining in the whole place. I had no draught Cobra as it is £3.99 for a half pint, which I cannot afford!!!!

We booked with friends the restaurant was lovely and clean and we were welcomed and shown to our table within 5 minutes we were greeted by our waiter for drinks we ordered food starters poppadoms a sharing platter then the main meal I have to say we couldn't find fault with any of the food it was hot very tasty the service was 2nd to none the staff from the waiters to the owners were so friendly and we were made to feel welcome we will definitely be back and we will have problem recommending The Mantra to our family and friends

Me and the husband came for a meal on Thursday and could not fault it. We arrived without booking and was shocked to see it so busy. But when we received the food we understood why. The food and service was great and it was probably the best Nann bread I've had. We will definitely be back. Thanks Mantra

Called in for dinner whilst travelling on business Lovely staff, food was delicious. Had a special deal of 2 for 1 on their traditional curries on Sunday (not the a la carte) so the meal was very reasonably priced. Simple, comfortable decor. Must note the quality Denby crockery, great British choice! Children welcome and we will be taking the family.

Family run restaurant. Was told there was a wait cos they were busy but we didn’t mind. Food was excellent and service was very good. Would highly recommend

EXCELLENT! We went to a well known Indian Restaurant on Father's Day and paid twice the price for half the value and quality. Our takeaway-Lamb Dum Biryani and Chicken Jalfrezi was delicious, the naan bread best we've had. Whatsmore it lasted two days!! Sauces hot so some may prefer to ask for milder. Thoroughly recommend.

We visited for a birthday meal and the food and experience was great. Bombay Chicken was soo good, spicy but some flavoursome not just hot. We had a great time and would 100% recommend.

This was a quick meal out for two, and our first visit to this restaurant. The restaurant is welcoming and clean, with attentive staff; especially the owners, who take a real pride in the place. There are some really interesting dishes, but we were in the market for a traditional curry; chicken jalfrezi for me, and lamb balti for my wife. The food was absolutely delicious. The jalfrezi deserves a special mention; there’s plenty of chilli heat, but that only complements the real depth of flavour. It’s not the hottest thing I’ve eaten, but it is certainly the tastiest hot curry I’ve come across. We’ll be going back; there are at least five dishes I really want to try, and on the evidence of last night, we won’t be disappointed.

In short:- Excellent meal Terrible service The owners really need to look at the standard of service and address this otherwise all visitors like ourselves will not be returning

I have teavelled and worked in Asia, the Middle East and Worldwide etc many Indian restaurants visited in the Stoke area, this is by far the worst Indian Restaurant I have been to. The setting was rather nice, the staff who served us pleasant and nice. The food however tasteless and bland, the owner disengaged. I didn't complain at the time as it wasn't my gig or to upset the company I was in, all 8 people were not happy. Would we go here again? Most definately not, there are by far much better places around the Stoke area. And as one reviewer has already mentioned it was cold, very cold

The choice and quality of food is brilliant, we have been a few times recently and had good service also. We feel really fortunate to have this place within walking distance from home and will certainly keep coming back,

Quite often Indian is served as a few lumps of meat swimming in a sea of sauce. Our food here was excellent, with plenty of it too. We ate a chicken dish & a lamb dish. We loved them both. The staff were friendly and welcoming in all departments. This was our first visit to this establishment, but it certainly won't be the last.

Came here for a family birthday. Food was very nice but the whole place is freezing. We also found that they’ve tried to sneak a couple of extras on our bill. Spoke to others who have also been here and said the same has happened to them. Check your bill!!!

I firstly want to start off with the hospitality. When we went to collect the food from the restaurant we were greeted and offered a drink (which we expected to pay for) the lady then mentioned that these drinks were on the house. The food was ordered for 9pm and at 2 minutes to the food arrived. Onto the food, all of the curries were really of a good standard. Our family recommended Goan Prawn Curry, Chicken Tawa and Lamb Dum Biriyani. The only negatives were that the Kadai Paneer had a little too much sugar and oil otherwise really nice.

We have visited a few times now and decided to spend our Christmas Day dinner here. The food is delicious! My mum had the lamb chops starter and commented that they were the nicest lamb chops she had ever had. The owner is lovely and goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. I can not recommend this place enough!

We came here for the “Eat out to help out” offer and the service was fab and the food was so tasty. The Trio starter is just divine, Lamb Samosa, Onion Bhaji & Chicken Tikka with salad 😍. Couldn’t fault anything. Would definitely recommend.

Went with friends Friday evening. Can't fault it! Service and food were top notch. Our friends reckon it was the best Indian meal they've had. Stayed for drinks after, relaxing and comfortable. CANNOT understand why it's quiet, they deserve success. Had several takeaways before which have always been excellent. Suppose people tend to go when it's an 'offer' night.

Visited on Wednesday evening and as usual the food was excellent as was the service but on paying our bill I noticed we had been charged for the bottle of wine which is advertised as being free for 2 people ordering 2 main courses (which we had). On querying this I was told this didn't apply when taking advantage of the government offer. This is entirely wrong as all advertised offers still apply.PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS AND ALL OTHER OFFERS ADVERTISED. I don't like being taken for a ride.

I visited Mantra recently with my girlfriend and two close friends to catch up over a curry and some drinks. As the title suggests, the food was absolutely top-notch: neither the korma nor peshwari naan was too sweet and the flavours were balanced perfectly. This can also be said for the onion bhajis and lamb samosa. I also found the lemon rice to be a refreshing change to what I would typically choose.Not to knock my meal, but having tried a spoonful of my mate's balti (which, I should mention, isn't usually my thing), I'll certainly be choosing this on my next visit, which will be soon.My only constructive feedback would be that it was a tad dark where we were seated and the decor needs freshening up here and there, but nothing some TLC and a couple of sconces wouldn't fix. Needles to say, this wasn't enough to detract from our meal at all. I just think it would push the experience to the next level.Thank you so much for a wonderful meal!

Visited Mantra after spotting advertising for the outdoor seating area. We’d had a late lunch, so opted for drinks, appetisers and desserts, rather than the full dining (aloo tikki chaat and cheesecakes delicious!). The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and the seating area outside was lovely - a nice spot to sample the gin menu. A very nice evening and will definitely be ordering from the main menu next time!

I've had many curries but the Mantra is by far the best. We've visited a few times and always enjoyed the food.Today I called and they don't normally deliver but said they would for us as they were coming by our estate later in the evening. Once again the food was amazing. I couldn't put it down. The ingredients always taste fresh and the meat is so tender. One thing though.... please consider delivering as standard, we would certainly be regular customers. Especially now with coronavirus.

Visited here for the 1st time with friends. The food was lovely but quite disappointed with the service. We waited an hour and half for our food! The waitresses were polite and obviously not their fault the food took so long. It seemed the restaurant was more interested in the take away side of the business as they were constantly in and out of the kitchen carrying bags of food to customers waiting at the bar. Like I said the food was lovely and cannot be faulted. The prices were reasonable too. I would visit the place again for food but order soon as I get in the restaurant. Would recommend for people to visit if they want a nice Indian but just be prepared for a wait.

We visited Mantra last Friday with another couple on a Groupon voucher.We were warmly met on arrival and we took seats in the bar area while we selected from the menu.After a very short wait we were shown to our table.We did not have to wait long to be served and we found the quality of each course to be very good. There was a short wait between courses as the food is freshly prepared but this was not a problem as it enabled conversations to be had.The staff are very friendly without being over so.All in all a very pleasant experience.

We purchased a groupon voucher which states you can have any starter up to £4.95 any main up to £8.95 and any rice or nan bread. When we arrived they were busy and thought the owner was miserable and abrupt. They did manage to fit another 3 people to our party. The menus arrived and one was a groupon menu with only one starter and a few mains and could only have steamed rice and a plain nan. We were told we could not order off the main menu i said well in the fine print on Groupon you can . She said well you cant and were too busy. We had to wait ages for the food when the curries arrived the waitress didnt know what the curries were and were all mixed up. We ordered to lamb dishes but they came has chicken. The food was tasty but will not return has everything was just too much for the staff

Vegetarian for 30 years until had veg Rogan josh from here. Half way through found chunks of meat. Disgusting. Fear it was someone's leftovers. Would not ever eat from here again.

I think the owners must have changed. Ordered the chicken Malabari which has been nice and spicy whilst being flavoursome before. There was no taste of coconut milk tonight, no real flavour of spice and it was basically a harsh, bog standard madras type curry. Not inedible but when there are other choices around I wouldn't go back here. An aside but I didn't order popadoms and chutney but they put them in the bag anyway. What a complete waste! They go straight in the bin, plastic, food and all. Guess what, I don't order them because I don't want them. If you've got excess food then please give it to charity.

We had no idea what to expect, Never knew it was there. We just wanted it to be good value for money and we would have been very happy. It was beyond expectation. A sincere and nice welcome, good service and very, very nice food. I'm sitting here telling my wife THEY SHOULD PUT THE PRICE UP! Honestly, a nice evening. Excellent value for the price of our meal. Very much looking forward to going back.My 74th birthday and could not have asked for a nicer evening out.

Service, quality of food, price of food, decore, authentic Indian music. All you could ask for when going out for an evening to an Indian restaurant.

A lovely restaurant with helpful staff, good selection of starters, curries and desserts. We were staying locally for 1 night as heading to Alton Towers the next day. The food was delicious and tasted very fresh. Not oily or greasy, full of flavour. Would highly recommend Mantra.

A great restaurant is not a great restaurant without an excellent chef. The Mantra certainly has an excellent chef. Welcome back Tarun and so pleased you are back doing what you do best which is cooking. Visited Thursday for an excellent curry. Plus the offer which to be fair is excellent value. Less than £15 per head for a three course meal. Don't know how you do it but both Sue and I thoroughly enjoyed the quality meal. Incredibly tasty and we are already looking forward to the next visit.

Where to start no disabled access son in law had to get my disabled grand son down steps in his wheel chair then in the restaurant even more steps to deal with as they sat us up the farthest corner which wasn't good for me either as I have to use a walking stick went to use the disabled toilets and the light was not working so had to climb all the steps to use other one's ordered food and drink's all 4 of us on pop 2 grand children had fruit shoot's food came very nice. Serving staff not very friendly get grunt out of the young lad. Finished food went to pay nearly fell through the floor at price of drinks 2.75 for small pop. Nice food but drinks too expensive won't go again.

Purchased this via Groupon, what a pleasant surprise. Food was tasty, well cooked and service excellent. Drinks prices are not too expensive either. We will definitely return.

Food generally good but starter of three chickens lacked sauce and lemon? Mains were fantastic - lovely rice and chicken and sauces. Garlic nan was poor though.

Friends treated us to a meal at this restaurant but had no idea what it would be like. They were a bit concerned about the decor outside (an ex pub) and one said the toilet fittings needed some attention, but we thought that the choice of food on the menu was wide and the food was excellent. Two in the party were vegetarian but were well catered for. Portions were generous. It was fairly busy during the middle period of the evening but by the time we left at just before 10pm it was quiet. Great value three course meal with a Groupon offer. Some people came in to pick up take away during our visit so they obviously offer that.

We visited as a family taken straight to our seats and drinks promptly ordered. We had a mixed starter which was delicious onion bahji was perfect, nice spice to the samosa, the popadoms were lovely. All the chicken was perfectly cooked in the tandoori main, the kids enjoyed the chicken tikka masala, the rice needed a little more flavour. The lady owner is lovely. Definitely worth a visit the interior was very nice too.

Moved from Cannock 5 years ago and we have tried so many Indian restaurants from Stone to Hanley. We live within 100metres from The Red Onion, so poor.

Booked a table for 7.30 turned up at 7.20 and the landlady said we were not booked but they may be able to do something. It was not busy and once we had explained that we had booked they gave us a table. Drinks order was taken and the drinks arrived. Avoid any kind of real ale because it is sour. We had to ask if we could order food which was a hardship. Another 2 couples came in and got served straight away. Time passed and the couple next to us that had came in after us were waiting on their main course and we were still awaiting poppadoms! We eventually got them then had to prompt the waitress for the starters and by the time the mains had arrived 1 hour 40 minutes after getting into the restaurant I had lost my appetite. I I’ll not be returning.

Turned up for my first visit without a booking and was welcomed as though I was a regular. Food excellent and service exemplary.

First time we have visited and we were not disappointed. We had the set menu which was lovely, could not fault the food at all.

Had a great family meal here last night. Never seen plates so cleaned up before. We had a range of chicken and lamb dishes, all wonderfully served up nice and hot, on really hot plates.

I have passed this restaurant many times and from the outside it doesn't look great. It did however appear on a groupon deal and I decided to try it. What a great experience ...lovely poppadoms mixed starter and lovely freshly cooked curries. Best Indian meal I have tasted and lovely surroundings. This is a real example of not judging a book by the cover. If you pass this restaurant call in you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be back.

Lovely couple serving outstanding Indian cuisine. Have been many times and will go many more times. A brilliant joint birthday celebration with complimentary champagne.

We visited Mantra for our son’s 10th Birthday. The food was delicious, much more authentic than your normal curry house, and the service was wonderful. Would highly recommend it!

We visited here on New Year’s Eve. We had the set menu for the evening and the food was excellent. It was fresh and full of flavour. The staff were well presented and attentive without being overbearing. Overall we were very impressed and would recommend this restaurant.

Had a takeaway from the Mantra restaurant this weekend. Absolutely excellent, best Indian takeaway we've had in the Stoke on Trent area.

The staff who were working behind the bar were absolutely fantastic, there was one member of staff who was particularly brilliant I think his name was Ira. Thanks for a Great night lad.

Been 3 times now for the Sunday deal over recent months. Great value, food good too. Attentive staff. However there has been only a few other people dining there so the place looks empty and there is no atmosphere. Hope it's busier on other nights as I wonder how it stays open with so few customers. We were freezing though yesterday, only few radiators working, staff got extra portable oil radiators around us, but we declined ice cream dessert, we just wanted to get home, ate with our coats on. Wish them well, but may leave it for a while and hope they get heating sorted.

We've been to Mantra occasionally for the last 2 yrs on the Tuesday night deals. I can honestly say that the lamb Kadhai is the best curry I have ever had anywhere in the area, absolutely superb.

Visited on a Sunday and had the set meal. We had booked a table because were told the restaurant was really busy. The staff were very attentive the food was very fresh and tasted beautiful. Even though it was very busy we had a lovely evening and the service was fabulous. Would definitely recommend a visit

We arranged a retirement party for 2 of our friends and there were 43 of us.

I dine at the Mantra regularly because the food is exquisite. It is cooked, presented and served beautifully. The staff are attentive and the service is good. I recommend this restaurant as an ideal one to taste the true delicate flavours of Indian food.

The rice was really watery But part from that everything was nice Staff was good Really quite Could do better

We went to mantra and we were a large group. We had to pre-order our food but that was not a problem. Food was brilliant shared platter for starter if amazing. Main curry was so tasty a spice lamb curry with coconut rice. Had to wait for dishes to come out and unfortunately my rice was cold before I got my curry but the swapped it no problem and we had free wine as an apology. I will go again but just family. Would recommend going

We visited Mantra for the first time since the rename, we’d visited many times previously when it was Punjab Saga and never had any issues. On this occasion it was for a birthday meal, on arrival we were told by the waiter/barman and general allrounder that the heating was not working but they had oil filled radiators (x1), halogen heater (x1) and a convector heater (x1) which we discovered no where near our table.

11 if us had a meal to celebrate a birthday. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The restaurant was a little cold but was rectified with a portable heater.

We visited for my Birthday in mid-January. We did have the Tuesday set meal back in October 2017 when Mantra first opened. So we thought let's try it again. We were rather disappointed. Firstly, there were no pints of Stella with the deal on this visit although there were back in October. We like Stella and had to settle for a very poor tasting glass of wine under the correct measurement.

We were eager to try the food at Mantra after reading a recent article in the local press about the prestigious background of the chef. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We had a couple of starters which were ok/average, however the vegetable curries we ordered for our main course were bland and at least some of the vegetables from a frozen vegetable mix which left an unsavoury taste. Sad to say we won’t be returning any time soon.

The food was exquisite. Well presented, well priced. However we have written to the restaurant outlining the issues we had with poor service and untrained staff. Pleasant but inexperienced.

It’s changed hands with a new world class chef. Much better and needs updating on here. Great meals and price
