Manteca in City of London, Westminster

This place blew me away! The food, the service and the atmosphere were top notch. From the moment we sat down at the counter Nel and Georgina were phenomenal with their service, so friendly and yet professional. Nothing was missed, every detail was perfectly executed, we felt so well looked after that we felt special. So rare to find service of this calibre (even in the best of restaurants!). We had the pleasure of sitting right in front of the chefs and the cookline, what a great show but more importantly what a fantastically executed machine! The team was on top, I loved seeing how every chef was trying the food in every dish that was going out, ensuring top quality. The chef in charge (she) was so friendly and encouraging with her team and yet calmed and commanding. The food: absolutely everything we tried was amazing. Too many dishes to list here and I would find it difficult to pick a favourite. What a great experience from beginning to end and the thank you to the team (every single one of them), for being so professional, competent and lovely. As a restauranteur myself, I am a fan and will be coming back and recommending this place! Very well done.

Buen lugar para comer, un servicio muy amable y una excelente comida. La pasta estaba muy buena con una salsa de kale y cítricos espectacular.

Restaurante italiano sencillo con menú cambiado con frecuencia dependiendo de lo que está disponible en el mercado. El personal es familiar y amable. Cocina abierta da un buen ambiente.

Habíamos estado deseando visitar Manteca, ya que nos encanta la comida italiana y había leído buenas críticas. Sin embargo, nos apresuraron en cada etapa de nuestra comida. Dos camareras flotaban directamente detrás de nosotros, batiendo platos incluso cuando todavía quedaba algo en el plato. En realidad, repetidamente miraron directamente sobre el hombro de mi amigo y mostraron una frustración visible a lo largo de que no estábamos comiendo más rápido (y realmente no nos quedamos). Llegamos un poco antes de nuestra hora de reserva y parecen haber establecido un cronómetro para que nos desalojaran exactamente dos horas de nuestra llegada, no dos horas de nuestra hora de reserva. Desde una hora fue casi cómico - se sentía como si nos estuvieran procesando lo más rápido posible para que dos vagos más pudieran ser puestos asientos. A los cinco minutos para el final, el gerente de servicio vino y tomó nuestra botella de vino de su refrigerador y dijo bruscamente: «¿Pongo un corcho en esto para que pueda quitárselo?». Tuve que agarrarlo de nuevo y ella y las dos camareras de hecho se pararon frente a nosotros mirándonos beber rápidamente la última mitad de vaso cada una. Creo que lo logramos con solo un minuto de nuestras dos horas asignadas. Saltamos y fuimos completamente ignorados cuando nos fuimos. La comida estaba muy bien, pero en realidad nada tan especial en comparación con otros restaurantes como Trullo. Sin embargo, el cangrejo cacio e pepe estaba frío como piedra y era simplemente desagradable de comer. Más bien una carbonara de cangrejo de hebras de pasta se sentó en lo que parecía ser un charco de líquido fino yema y salmuera.

Nuestra segunda vez aquí este año con un grupo grande (ish) (siete personas) y en ambas ocasiones todos hemos hablado de la comida, que es perfecto para compartir. Las carnes curadas hechas en casa y las pastas son especialmente memorables, pero no ha habido fallos con ninguno de los platos que hemos pedido. El personal es genial. Las mesas están apretadas, pero eso aumenta el bullicio del lugar. Las fotos son de nuestra primera visita en marzo de 2024. Demasiado ocupado comiendo para tomar fotos la segunda vez!

Had one of the best meals I've had in a long time! Great food, great service. The ice cream sandwich is the best thing EVER.

I made my reservations well in advance so, I can have a pleasant time not to be rush, we were a party of four. I order two bottles of wine and spent more than 500 pounds, and they ask me to leave because the other reservation arrived , this nun aceptable.

Had been wanting to eat here for a while especially after reading the Telegraph review. Arrived a little earlier than my friend and was seated but then completely ignored. No one came to take a drinks order or any other interaction. Once my friend arrived, we felt rushed to order our food. There was a different server for every item (one doing water, another doing food, another delivering drinks) making the place feel chaotic. The restaurant was absolutely rammed!! Felt like they’d shoved as many tables in as possible and the noise gave us both headaches by the end of the meal. Ordered a selection of starters (the meatballs were great!) the kale pesto had an odd seaweed flavour to it and we didn’t finish it. Overall, don’t get the hype. Poor service, ok food.

Booking for 2.45 .. from moment of arrival all they said was “ The kitchen closes at 3” So please tell me why you took our booking for seven that appeared to be squeezed onto a table for six Food nice but such small portions Gave us free desserts and cocktail but no thank you won’t be back

Really good pasta sauces, was there with a friend and we shared 3 pastas. Considered getting more but it was filling. I ordered gluten free pasta which my friend agreed to share, but it was disappointing that all the gluten free pasta was the same shape and possibly not homemade. It would have been really nice to try homemade pasta. The interior of the restaurant was cosy but quite crowded and busy.

We had lovely friendly service from start to finish. Food was fantastic and we enjoyed the smaller plates so that we could sample more meals. The only tiny criticism was that the salad we order hadn't been washed and was a little gritty and a bit tired looking but it was a hot day..........

No wonder Manteca has a Bib Gourmand, great experience from start to finish. We sat at the counter and got to watch Jack and Jasmine at work, which definitely got our appetites going… The menu has so many options, but we opted for the foccacia, the beef battuta, the mussels, the crab cacio e pepe and the duck ragu; it was impossible to pick one dish as our favourite, as they were all incredible. It’s also worth saving a bit of space for the affogato and the beef fat fudge! The wine on tap is a really cool idea that fits the “nose to tail” approach of Manteca, and the wine was equally delicious. The service was great, and the chefs in the kitchen (particularly Jack and Jasmine) were really friendly and offered to talk us through any of the dishes before we ordered. Overall our experience was amazing and Manteca definitely lives up to the reputation it has gained.

We were in London visiting our granddaughter who is working there and she took us to this restaurant as had heard great things about it. We had a booking and this is essential as the place is heavily booked. Service was very prompt and professional and the food exceptional. Interesting takes on the dishes we tried and we all agreed they were delicious. If you are looking for a place to impress this is the one.

Our favorite meal in London! Everything was fantastic from the food to the service. My husband and I had a wonderful experience, and look forward to eating here again. We would definitely recommend booking a reservation in advance and checking their hours beforehand as they are closed for a few hours in the midafternoon.

Perfect experience gone bad on the basis of very poor to probably non-existent service. Food is delicious and well cooked but our waiter was in a hurry from the start. Never were we served our wine or water. We had to ask several times for service. Our meat was brought lukewarm and our waiter forgot to order our sides. The manager was kind and apologetic but by that time we had lost it. The place was full and all you felt was people running around the table bringing plates. On the bright side, it is easier to fix bad service than it is to fix bad cuisine. I would have given it another try if only London were not full of so many wonderful options.
