Great hotel, very relaxing, had a lovely atmosphere, we stayed for one night, the only room available was a budget room, which was a great room, good size with a full bathroom, we ate at the hotel at the night time the food was great quality with a lot of menu choices, the breakfast was also good quality, we paid less than we would have paid in a chain hotel and had a much nicer experience, let’s continue to support these independent hotels.

My wife had booked hotel for a weekend as part of my birthday. So glad she had . The owners , management and all staff were extremely friendly , helpful and professional . The accommodation itself was extremely comfortable and you can see money has been spent with furnishings , mattress etc all being top of the range , luxurious items . The hotel is genuinely dog friendly with our dog and other guests dogs being made a fuss of ... even water at dining tables for them ... with the owners sensibly having dog owners in a different dining area from non dog owning diners so that everyone happy . After dining there on our first night and enjoying the experience we decided to dine there again on second night . Firstly as all courses were fantastic on that first night and secondly as plenty of choice to have a different meal the next night , including many vegetarian choices for the wife . All staff so helpful too . Probably professionalism and warmth evident in even the young staff members has percolated down from owners , management . Both the owners and management very hands on and in fact we didn't realise until last breakfast that the very cheery , bouncy helpful waitress , who was serving in evenings and breakfast was one of the owners . Not one to normall write reviews but fell it would be a shame that anyone visiting this area wasn't aware of the experience Mansfield House Hotel . Can't recommend it high enough , and have done already to family , friends and colleagues and intend returning ourselves . Thanks again Pete, Anne and Rory

We stayed at the Mansfield House Hotel Mid May 2021. We were greeted by a friendly yet professional staff member who showed us to our room. We were upgraded rooms without asking which was nice surprise. The rooms were nicely decorated, adequately stocked and very clean - no complaints! We had breakfast in the hotel which we couldn't fault and appreciated the vast selection to choose from. Lastly, it was the first time my parents had their dogs staying with them at a hotel and the staff welcomed the dogs and catered to the fact they were there. I should add that we felt you wouldn't have noticed it was dog friendly hotel had you not seen actual dogs (the place was very clean and no dog hair in sight!). We would recommend this hotel to others!

Booked for a birthday meal. Have eaten at this hotel many times before and have previously always enjoyed the experience. would normally opt for the pasta menu but on this occasion chose the fish and chips. when the meal was served the fish had either been overcooked or prepared earlier. The batter and the fish were dry and barely edible. when the waiter asked if everything was okay I showed him the batter and the fish but he didn’t offer to comment. Not wanting to cause a scene in the dining room I left the food. Will not be back.

While staying at the Mansfield House Hotel recently, my mother and I dined in the restaurant several times during our stay. The Italian influenced menu offers many options - and all of them excellent choices! I wish I had more time to stay, because I would have certainly tried to eat my way through the menu! On our last night, we let the lead waiter, Franco, choose for us and were not disappointed. Everything is made fresh, in house. By far the best Italian food I've ever had (my mother said it was better than any she had in Italy!).

I spent a few nights in this hotel during a recent trip to the area, I found the staff friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable, and very well decorated and furnished. It does take a bit of getting used to closing the wooden shutters On my first night stay at 5am I was awaken with a banging noice coming from the wind shaking the window frames. The other two nights i had a great nights sleep. My only other fault is regarding the hot water, there is very little or no hot water in the shower before 7.30am, so best to lie on and then shower after 7.30am For breakfast the hotel provides a nice selection of fruit, cereal, and yougart, the cooked breakfast is very tasty and most importantly freshly cooked to order, although they adopt a minimilistic policy with the provision of bacon and sauseage, however while the breakfast lacks in quantity it makes up in quality. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of 2018. There was a Hogmanay celebration on over New Year's eve and the hotel was very warm, clean, comfortable and well presented. The hotel advertises that it is dog friendly and this is truly so, (ie not just tolerant). Our dog, and us, were made to feel very welcome and the hotel maintains valuable old fashioned standards of space and comfort, whilst remaining very classy in appearance, and all at a very reasonable rate. Our dog was welcome in the bar area whilst we ate, and generally around the premises. Access to the outside at all times was very convenient. We like the place a lot and will be back. The hotel truly deserves this favourable review and we would recommend the hotel to anyone.

Stayed 6 nights in Room 1, which had lovely views, and very beautiful decor, of dark wood, sleigh bed and soft furnishing with a touch of Scottish influence. Colours fabulous.Had a peek at most rooms, which were a pure delight in decor, and each different in style. Lynn knows how to add touches of class throughout Mansfield. Last time we visited it was drab, and needed a much deserved upgrade, which they have achieved with flying colours.Food was good, a great choice. Restaurant is beautiful too. They will be adding a few nights of the week an Italian menu, prepared by 2 local Italian Chefs who know a thing or two about Italy and its food.Cannot praise Lynn, Stewart, Janice, Franco and and ALL the staff for quality first class service throughout our stay. They also arranged for us a small 90th birthday dinner, and we were all treated like royalty. Stayed at this hotel while visiting family with my daughter but very disappointed. The building is imposing and has an attractive reception area and lounge but it went rapidly downhill from there. The family room I was put in had a bunk bed in it covered in dust and the decoration and quality of furnishing generally in the room was poor with some maintenance being needed. We ate in the restaurant one evening. We were the only ones there initially and the atmosphere was worse than at a funeral. The piped music was the most funereal and full imaginable, draining the room of any sense of cheerfulness. I asked the waiter to change the music but it appears the owners only pay the absolute minimum for playing music and you certainly get what you pay for. For a time the music was switched off and we played jazz tracks from Spotify instead, which helped a bit. We had to turn this off when other guests came in. The food itself was okay but nothing spectacular and a bit on the stodgy side. The waiter was friendly and suitably attentive. There was an attractive lounge but the atmosphere could have been improved by actually lighting the open fire. The bar area was a bit gloomy. So much more could have been done with this hotel to live up to the quality of the building and grounds but very disappointing

We booked a table for 4 people for 8p.m. On Friday 5th June. Arrived and waitress advised that they were running a wee bit late, 10/15 minutes. We went to the bar to order a drink and bar person advised that they were very busy and she was a bit harassed. Anyway finally got our drink and no one arrived with a menu so one of our party went on the look out for one and came back to the table. We selected what we would like to order and waited for our order to be taken, no one came and it was now 30 minutes after we arrived. We asked again how long it would be before they would take our order and was advised she should be with us in 5/10 minutes. We waited Nd waited, no one came and my husband went to search for waitress, it was now 9p.m. She said she would need to ask the chef and after an exchange of words which my husband heard we decided to leave. No one could advise when we could have our meal and we felt that the chef was very rude to the two ladies working that night. We were really looking forward to our meal as it is a lovely setting. We are also aware that the duty manager was contacted but they advised they could do nothing about the situation!!A very disappointing result as we were really looking forward to our meal and being local people would have used the restaurant more often. We spoke with other guests who appeared to have had the same non existent service.

This Hotel enjoys an enviable situation on the edge of Hawick, its hilltop location offering views across the town to the hills beyond - and all from your dining table. We visited on a Sunday for lunch and enjoyed just that - a Sunday lunch main course, preceded by tasty starters and followed by indulgent desserts. I was concerned when we entered, as we were the only diners, but I need not have worried. The kitchen produced tasty dishes, cooked well; the service was excellent. We left thoroughly satisfied, having incurred only a modest bill, and resolved to return. Dining here justifies the detour from the centre of town: if you are staying in Hawick, the downhill walk back may be a benefit!

Recently attended a Farmers Ball in the Function Suite and it was like being time travelled back to the 1970's.Food was atrocious. No imagination, bland and quite frankly just BAD.... That's the best way to describe it. "Melon and prawn" - OK, retro, but bring it up to date please. Don't just throw a bit of melon on a plate and a scattering of prawns. its not rocket science. "Soup"...erm- I don't think it was, or at least not soup as we know it. It had no taste at all. "Roast beef" - Now you would think that it was quite simple not to mess this one up. But it looked like it had been cooked a few days before and cut thinly on some kind of Japanese mandolin ! Throw it on a plate with an aunt Bessies Yorkshire pudding, a bit of bisto and a smidgeon of cold veg and ...Eh Voala... I had better meals at primary school."chicken" - dry, hard and tastless, served with the finesse of a sumo wrestler."Cheesecake" - still frozen in the middle. bought in and not taken out of the freezer in time. The whole process took over 2 long hours, served by uninterested, and untidy looking staff who had the personality of bear with a sore head. Dangling beard fluff in my food I do not want please. It is a shame that you let yourself down so badly in front of so many people on one night.I certainly will not be rushing over from Galashiels in a hurry for a long time.p.s. - Had a great night apart from the food and service !

Found ourselves in Hawick at short notice and needing something to eat nearing the end of what would be usual lunchtime catering hours. After a quick Google search we decided on the Mansfield House Hotel. We found ourselves in a peaceful location in what appeared to be a very pleasant hotel but wondered if we'd be served as there was no one around. Signs pointed us to the bar where it was also worryingly empty. Fortunately someone soon appeared and to the relief of our rumbling stomachs said we were still in time for lunch. What followed was a lovely meal of very freshly cooked fish and scampi. The hand cut chips which came in a bowl to share were the best I've tasted and the portions more than generous. Next time we're in Hawick and hungry we'll head there. Anyone looking for accommodation should consider checking this place out as it had a feeling of being cared about and we'd definitely book there if we needed a bed for the night.

Good location. Potentially elegant / imposing building with comfortable interior decor. A la carte menu is supported by a 'bar snacks" listing , the former being an "over Scoticised" relic of the last century featuring a predictable haggis , whisky , deep fried , uninviting offer. The other menu has fewer pretensions , justifiably. The whole is crowned by a pleasant enough bar laid up as a restaurant for some reason ( Are you eating or not ! ) , staffed by barmaid and waiting staff who eat dinner /tea /supper while watching "soaps"on a large screen TV in front of guests - while on duty ! Don't expect quick service but do expect sloppy standards , uninspiring poorly trained staff and a need to reposition the offer away from the use of tradition to disguise very ordinary quality. We left early.

Myself and my parents stayed one night in july. The hotel is set in lovely grounds up on hill with views of Hawick. My parents had a double room walk in shower clean and modern. My room had four poster bed lovely modern ensuite shower and. We had eve meal in hotel which was lovely the staff could not do enough for us. Breakfast was lovely too lots of choice. Again staff could not do enough for us. We will return next year on our way to highlands. When we checked out the manageress said just let us know when you are coming back and we will sort same rooms out for us.. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.
