Man's Chinese Restaurant in Nottingham

I was in Nottingham for work and on my own. It was a Monday night and I really fancied a Chinese curry. So I put in a search on google maps and proceeded to walk around a few Chinese restaurants looking for one that took my fancy. I looked at quite a few, all of which looked a bit ropey, and didn’t tempt me in. I thought I’d go to one last one (Man’s) and if that’s no good get something else to eat. I got there and looked in and it looked very nice, so in I went. The rest was busy and I was seated close to the door. I looked around and noticed that I was the only non Asian in the place. This I thought must be a good sign. The staff were all very friendly and I ordered the mixed starter, which consisted of Seaweed, capital rib, spring roll, chicken satay and prawn toast. There was plenty there and it was all really good. I had also ordered a chicken curry for my main as I had been fancying one for weeks. Well it did not disappoint. It was the best Chinese curry I have ever had. The flavours were unreal. It is probably the spiciest Chinese curry I have had also, but I like spice, so that was a bonus. It wasn’t overly spicy, but I don’t tend to find Chinese curry that spicy. It’s by no means cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. Before I did this review I looked at previous reviews and was amazed to see how many bad reviews this place has got. All I can say is give it a go and make your own mind up. I can’t see how you could be disappointed with it.

Amazing setting, friendly and welcoming staff and really good food. The restaurant is set in a splendid Liberty style hall.

We have always gone to the one in Wollaston but the last few times has been disappointing. Man’s in Nottingham when we visited last night was amazing. Great service and fabulous food. Couldn’t recommend enough xx

Me and my other half had a lovely meal here. We were staying in Notts for a few days and thought we would visit here. To be fair, we have been before. We had steamed dim sum, which was lovely, and the calamari. Both were lovely. My boyfriend asked for a recommendation, and the lady said this duck dish on the bone. I had fillet steak in black pepper sauce. We had 1 egg fried each, but I think 1 between us would have been enough. Overall the meal was really nice and it had a relaxing atmosphere. Our food and drinks came out in good time and the staff were friendly ;)

I dined at Man’s for a birthday celebration with a big group of family & friends…the restaurant was empty but we were treated like it was an inconvenience to the staff for us to be there…other than welcoming our custom. Food was pretty much thrown at us and everything we asked for was greeted with a grunt. The food is certainly not worth tolerating the awful attitude you receive from the staff.

Awful - it's the only acceptable word for both the service and the food quality. Charged £11 for fried pak choi, when ordered stir fried vegetables and couldn't believe it. Food we received was all overcooked and just simply awful. Honestly avoid at all cost.

Probably the worst non dining experience that I have ever had. There are multiple menus on the window of the restaurant, probably a red flag in itself, with some tempting Cantonese dishes. However, when we sat down at our table we were presented with a menu with none of the dishes that initially attracted us. The tablecloth was also very stained and although apparently clean was obviously not changed regularly, probably just wiped over, although a 5 star hygiene rating was displayed at the front of the restaurant . My wife and I thought, ok let’s try and find something as being Chinese she was looking forward to some good Cantonese cuisine. We ordered some dishes and wine and water. The wine list gave no indication of the provenance of the wine, another red flag I shouldn’t have ignored. The wine arrived and to be frank seemed to be watered down, it was frankly terrible. We were then advised that the starter we ordered wasn’t available, we selected another dish and were then told that yet another dish wasn’t available. At this point with the poor hygiene, stained tablecloths, terrible drinks and obvious complete lack of care of the restaurant we decided to cut our losses and leave as the likelihood of receiving some decent food seemed extremely unlikely. We did offer to pay for the wine and water as we felt bad that for the first time ever we had to leave a restaurant without eating and they happily accepted payment, even though the wine was barely touched. Please avoid this restaurant, they just don’t care and have absolutely no consideration for their clients or it seems their reputation. The food if anything like the wine and service would have been terrible so for the sake of £15.00 we had a lucky escape.

We went for dim sum which was excellent, a very wide choice and some dishes I had not eaten in a very long time. Excellent service .

Service wasn't efficient but the waiting staff tried their best I guess. The majority of the dishes were okay. Pak choi was overcooked. The mange tout was undercooked. One dish was far from its intended flavour (too sweet when it should be savoury) that two thirds was uneaten. This was Friday at 7.30pm., a peak time for diners, but the restaurant was less than half full. If only they employ a proper Cantonese cuisine chef instead of a Spitting Image one. I wouldn't say our dinner was ruined, but it could have been so much better....pity.

Birthday ruined. Please never visit. I booked with 10 of my friends to celebrate a birthday. I had bought cake and balloons earlier on in the day. Arrived and had to ask balloons to be brought out and they never bought the cake out. They gave it back to me in a plastic bag as I was leaving without any sort of apology. The service is absolutely diabolical, they forgot drinks orders, the food was cold, we were waiting 20+ minutes for drinks they did remember. The staff are so so rude and wanted us gone. We were the only table in the restaurant at 8pm- says it all. People had traveled very far for this meal and you managed to disappoint every single one of us and embarrass myself for organising it there. This place and the staff are a joke. Said an undeserving thankyou as I left and got completely blanked. Waste waste waste.

Found this restaurant online due to staying in the area for the night recently. We arrived at our hotel at 7.30 and rang restaurant for a table - we were seated by 8.30. It is quite noisy so if your after quiet ask to sit out of main area. We ordered our food and it was out within 5 minutes which seemed very fast. You have to pay for prawn crackers which is unlike our Chinese restaurants. No fortune cookie either Food was average, service fine Overall would say 6/10

Tasty food, relatively well priced. Clean and tidy restaurant, polite service. Fairly small menu for a chinese restaurant but clearly focused on the quality rather than quantity of dishes!

We booked a table for 8 people to celebrate a birthday on 17th Feb at 7.30pm. When we arrived the restaurant was closed and in complete darkness. No sign of life and no notice on the door. I tried to telephone and there was no answer, no option to leave a message either. So I emailed for an explanation and still no answer. This was very unprofessional and unacceptable. Man’s… your loss was Las Iguanas gain. We will never even try to come back. No way to treat your customers.

We pre-booked here to celebrate a big birthday and regretted it. The service was shocking, no welcome on arrival, no friendless or smiles just pointing and had to keep asking for them to come over. When ordering drinks they didn’t have much stock and again had to keep chasing up as well as having to ask multiple times for dishes that were missing. Half of the table had finished there food before the other even arrived and when it did it wasn’t anything special. There was not enough food for the amount of people ordered on the set menu, it was cold and majority of it was onion and found a hair in the rice which just topped it off.

Rubbish. Booked ahead for a Chinese New Year treat - kids looking forward to it and we'd been incredibly busy with work that day. What a let down. We were left waiting for an hour with hungry (but well-behaved) children in a restaurant not even half full. They did have a very busy take-out operation going on though, which is clearly more important to them. Awful food. As a lover of gongbaojiding, I was gutted to be served a dish containing 50% boiled carrots, no chilli, and about four soggy bits of cashew nut with no apparent gongbao seasoning - a sprinkle of white pepper at best. I'd been looking forward to the duck on the bone too but it was luke warm when it reached the table - perhaps explained by the hour long wait. Appalling - worst Chinese food I've had in the UK. Asked to speak to the manager but never saw them. Don't waste your money here.

I live in Leicester and consider myself very keen and enthused in dim sum as there are excellent eateries in Leicester. However my sister took me for lunch on December 5th and I have to say I will certainly visit again the dim sum variety was all delicious including the paper wrapped prawns.the service was first class although it was a little quiet probably due to the date and time we visited but I will certainly be visiting again

We arrived, the restaurant looked tired, the main light was not on. We were asked abruptly it we were having “dim sum”. When the waitress returned there is only one way to describe her as just completely RUDE, she took our order with no smile, poor body language, we felt we were an inconvenience. The food quality was so poor we finished our starters and cancelled our order. Never again will we return, we have been visiting the restaurant since 2016!!

There are many good Indian restaurants just off the top of Maid Marion Way but I decided to try Chinese for a change. On entry it’s surprising how large and grand looking the place is and I was happy to see that the bulk of the diners were Orientals. Always a good start. But the so-called welcome was lacking and on the edge of rude and indifferent. Initially they tried to seat me at what was probably the worst table in the room (I was on my own that night) but when I declined they allowed me to sit elsewhere. It was far from the best Chinese food I have eaten but there again certainly nothing special either. The waiters made little contact, just silently placing food on the table, and as they tended to be older I wonder if it was because they spoke little English. It certainly seemed so. As I say there is nothing bad here but nothing that makes me want to rush back either. And not cheap either. I will explore others places next time I’m in Nottingham.

We have always had good food and great service from Man's, but our latest visit proved a disappointment. The staff seemed new and had a very limited grasp of English, which made ordering difficult. There were many of them, but the lady who has always controlled the orders, was missing. The food, although good value, was not up to the previous standard. Hard chicken and luke warm coffee. Shame, as I always rated it highly. Maybe they had a bad day.

Since changing name from China China, this has become the best Chinese Restaurant in Nottingham. My family and myself consider it our favourite eating house. 2 delicious lunchtime courses, for £8. Fantastic. As 80% of customers are Chinese, we know it is good. Thanks to the Man family, for providing us with great food.

This restaurant is always very busy, and at least 70% of the customers are Chinese. We have eaten there many times and have always had first rate food, at a good price. It is a family run business and deserves to succeed. The best value, is the 2 course lunch, served Monday to Saturday.
