On a beautiful sunny day, we enjoyed a soup and sandwich lunch at an outside table at Manna Cafe. The pea and ham soup was like I remember homemade soup being when I was a kid - simply delicious. The service was efficient and friendly. A great place to while away a lunchtime.

Manna serves excellent tea and scones - and a very nice home-made fruit cake. It's a fine place to sit in the quiet for half an hour reading the paper. The staff (volunteers?) are very pleasant and the whole place is enjoyable, not least because there's no loud music.

Manna is just part of the Newport Community. Run by very efficient Diane and served by lovely volunteers, Manna welcomes everyone. Coffee and tea and light meals are served. Cakes and scones (baked by local volunteers) are absolutely delicious. There's also a delightful fair-trade shop with wide ranging and interesting stock. Greetings cards, often created by local artists, are particularly attractive.

Great coffee and ‘comfort’ food, combined with the most welcoming, friendly and helpful staff made this little cafe/ gift shop one of the ‘finds’ of our recent visit. A holiday highlight! Thankyou!!

Run by volunteers, as a fund raising effort on behalf of the Church of Scotland, since 2006, Manna has become a popular meeting point: and it's well worth a visit from others exploring what's close to the River Tay. The cakes are tasty; and the coffee passes muster. Reasonable prices, and friendly faces.

Popped in here one afternoon when I was out with my daughter. I had the homemade soup and a crusty roll with butter which was very enjoyable, whilst my daughter just opted for a beverage. Found the staff to be very friendly. This is a community café which is run by the local church. The toilet was very clean. There is a little "Fair Trade" gift shop inside as well. Was quite busy when we were in so I imagine it is a popular place with the locals.

Enjoyed a tea and home baking here last Saturday, quite by chance as was visiting the beautiful florist a few doors down. Was able to sit outside in the sunshine which is always a bonus. Lovely service including 2 young helpers who were both very professional. Good quality tea, served in proper china, delicious home baking and a little gift shop within the cafe too.

This is a church run cafe which is very much "Fair Trade". You can either take a seat and have a waitress take your order or go to the counter to order. We went around 3.30 on a weekday and the cafe was very busy with schoolchildren - we got the only vacant table. The cafe is clean, well looked after, the food is good and prices are very reasonable. The coffee was really excellent. If you like strong coffee then go for a cup while if you prefer it weaker then have a mug. There were no scones left when we got there but there were plenty of cakes which all looked good. The slices are quite small but the pieces of cake, like chocolate cake, are quite large. All were excellent - it is best to choose your cake at the counter. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cafe also sells other Fair Trade items and cards. The toilet was twinned with a latrine in Cambodia - first time I've seen 'toilet twinning'!

Manna had the toilet facilities for Newport on Tay. Cafe run by volunteers on behalf of the church. Coffee was coolish. Two scones and jam plus coffee seemed expensive for what it was.

Dropped in yesterday for coffee and a cake with a fellow cyclist. We were greeted by three lovely good humoured girls who took an interest in our exploits of the day.We were served with lovely coffee, warm scones with jam and butter, and a couple of glasses of water to help our re-hydration. We also had a couple of oaty/coconutish/fruity/chocolatey slices to take away which were also fantastic. They also filled our drinks bottles with water before we went on our merry way.Great service, lovely cakes, fine coffee, nice premises, what more could you ask for!Only down side...we didn't want to move once we had finished.More power to you ladies, great stop, and will recommend to our cycling friends.

I visit here regularly and really enjoy the home baked sweet treats and soups. They don't offer a full savoury menu, just soups, but they do allow you to take your own things, like sandwiches, in to eat with a cuppa. It's not an overpriced cafe where you'll find ridiculously over-decorated cupcakes and £7 pan inis, it's just simple tray bakes and cakes at a really good price. 2 of us can usually go in and have soup, a drink and a cake for under a tenner. They have a great little fair-trade gift shop and sell the food too. The cafe is run by 1 member of staff and the rest are volunteers so there's a real community feel.My only criticism is if you sit near the toilets there can be an overwhelming chemical smell that's quite off-putting while you eat! I usually pick a window seat which is nice for people watching :) Well done Manna!

A bit of the beaten track but worth it. If this café was in the city centre, it would be packed out every day! We enjoyed lovely, freshly made sandwiches in a cosy atmosphere and took some delicious cakes home. I hadn’t been for a while but it’s every bit as nice as I remember, we’ll definitely be back.

We didn't stay but went for lunch one Sunday. We booked but several groups turned up without booking and were able to get a table. The menu is the usual pub grub but nicely presented and service was quick. Ae chose the roast beef, meatball and curry with icecream and coffee to follow. All very tasty The welcome and service were frienly and efficient and the dining room light airy and spacious.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
