Overall, a pleasant dining experience, food is above average with a decent level of authenticity. Would prefer the noodle to be less soggy. Highly recommend the hot and sour soup, which is well executed compared to most places.

The dining environment of this restaurant is quite good, but the seats are very crowded and it is not too quiet. Overall, the food is quite satisfactory and the food is quite delicious. It goes well with meals. We ordered the sizzling beef, which was a bit sweet. I thought the salt and pepper squid was quite delicious. The squid was considered fresh. Tamago tofu is not bad. There are also shrimps in it. The Yi noodles are quite crispy and delicious. I ordered seafood and roast duck. It seems that the signature is lobster noodles. I want to try it next time, but it seems to be very expensive, but I still want to try it. Overall, it is not bad. The ambiance is decent but quite crowded, so not ideal for a quiet meal. We tried classic Cantonese dishes like Teppanyaki beef (a bit sweet), salt & pepper squid 🦑 (very fresh and crispy), and two E-fu noodles with seafood & roast duck toppings. The unique crispy texture of the noodles paired nicely with the different ingredients, and the shrimp tofu was a pleasant surprise. Overall, worth a try for Cantonese food lovers!

11/11/2024-Monday. I have not been to this restaurant since the pandemic. Today, my husband and I decided to have lobster noodles lunch in here. The quality of the lobster noodles is still the same, excellent standard. Sadly, the severs were a bit downside compared to the previous team. I hope, in the future, the servers focus on customers rather than grouping themselves at the bar counter/chatting among themselves with their back facing to the tables. It is quite difficult to get the server's attention when service is needed. Overall, I still give 5 star rating as I feel the kitchen staff do works very hard. The food that served out was pretty quick. I would still recommend to others if their craving for lobster noodles. Highly recommended for lobster noodle dish ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Restaurant is located near Hyde Park London. It was busy when we got there for dinner but they managed to get us a table. We have the popular ginger lobster noodle, roasted duck, asparagus in broth and hot and sour soup. We were wowed by the very flavourful lobster noodle. Duck was good but I the asparagus was a little bland for me. However I love the well balanced hot and sour soup. Highly recommend to those seeking for authentic Chinese food. The server is attentive and funny. Enjoyed the meal

Great place to have a big family feud dinner! I would advise to book in advance during peak dinner times and they only take telephone bookings as of yet. Been here plenty of times and the food is consistently delicious! You wouldn’t want to come here without ordering the famous lobster noodles with ginger and spring onion which is our family fav, plus the beef ho fun and sesame prawn toast. If you have room for dessert, top it up off with an order of banana fritters with ice cream. Yum! Service is generally polite and dependent on who serves you on the day tbh. The place is a little cramped when it gets busy and you may find yourself brushing a couple of chairs navigating the way to the restroom which is up 2 flights of narrow stairs. It would be great if they could accommodate a disabled friendly toilet downstairs.

Still the traditional Cantonese cuisine Tasty and good portion The disappointed dish - half fried duck Expecting to see half the duck, but they were shredded and served as pekin duck - it have a pekin duck selection, so I was not aware it meant half duck for Pekin Duck 😮‍💨 Review said bad service. We did not experience any of that. All servers were friendly and attentive. They waited for us to complete dishes before delivering the next dishes. Even offered to split the noodles for 4 of us. The food is very good. But ended on a sour note as they automatically add a service charge (absolutely fair enough) then present you with the card machine and option to pay 4 different amounts of extra tip. I am sure I am not alone in thinking that this is really sharp practice, to the point of devious. Nobody expects to pay two tips and I am pretty sure most people, when presented with the machine, would assume that a service charge has not been added already. I pushed back on it to be told that a lot of people like the maths done for them - true, but not when it has already been done for them. This is just a double dip and brazen attempt to squeeze more out of the bill. Really grubby behaviour Mandarin Kitchen and you know it. Like I say, food very good and all in all a quality restaurant - this sharp practice is below you and should stop.

If you're a big eater, this restaurant might not be the best choice. A couple over 50 years old was charged nearly £16 for white rice by a young Chinese waitress. Interestingly, the female customer had a very small appetite. The restaurant explained that they ordered four bowls of rice, each priced at £3.90, and with the service charge included, the total spent on rice would actually exceed £17. I probably ate about 12 or 13 pounds worth of rice, which is a personal record . In my entire life, I've never spent that much on a single meal of plain white rice. At this restaurant in London, I set a new record. The overall quality of Chinese cuisine in London has room for improvement. If you have a big appetite, this restaurant is not a good choice. A couple over 50 years old was charged nearly 16 pounds for white rice by a young Chinese waitress. The female customer's appetite was very small. The reason explained by the hotel was that the rice the two wanted was 4 bowls of rice, and each bowl cost 3.90 pounds. Including service charges, the money spent on rice should be more than 17 pounds. Of this, I ate about twelve or thirteen pounds, and I have never eaten a meal of twelve or thirteen pounds of white rice in my life. At this restaurant in London, I set a record. The overall standard of Chinese food in London needs to be improved.

This used to be our favorite for Crispy duck and lobster. So sad to see how far they have dropped. The duck was pre shredded , cold and tasteless (used to be fresh off the bone at table steaming hot). It was plopped down like a dish of dog food ( server used to roll a few pancakes with spoons- amazing) The lobster in ginger sauce - again not streaming hot and the sauce was quite bland. The two Chinese businessmen at the table next to us were served their noodles and lobster but for us - again plopped down. So they clearly don’t want you here if you are not Chinese and there is nothing special about the food at all. It’s in a bad area so I see no reason to come back. Went with my eight year old son (who is fussy) and my cousin. We ordered aromatic duck and pancakes and vegetable chow mien, always going to be a winner with a fussy child! As I'd read so much about the seafood I insisted that we order the soft shell crab and it was amazing! We shared one but could have just had a couple of those each, it was so good. We were served by a lovely gentleman in a blue shirt (I think the manager) who was very friendly and polite enough to give us time to explain some of the dishes on the menu even though it was very busy. We had a lovely evening, great food with generous portions and lovely service and I will definitely return to try some more of the seafood dishes. *Also, when I booked, we were told we had the table for an hour and a half to fit other reservations (which is pretty standard - restaurants need to turn tables to make money), but to be honest I have no idea what time we left! I don't know if we stayed later or left on time or earlier, the point is we didn't feel rushed at all.

I grew up in Bayswater and we always had a good meal here. Yesterday was the worst meal and experience. Both bothers who run the restaurant are always pleasant and friendly to chat with, one of the brothers was in the restaurant. The crispy duck was dry and they didn’t shred it in front of us? It tasted like it had been microwaved as it was dry and not crispy, we also ordered the sizzling chicken but it didn’t come out sizzling and the chicken was chewy. No interaction from the staff, usually your asked if everything is ok with your food, we went asked once. I asked the owner to remove the service charge of 12.5% all he said was “why” no “oh what’s wrong” we will never return here and will inform all family and friends. Terrible service. The worst in London. The reception talked so blunt and no smile, no courtesy at all. They said we can only have the table for 1.5 hours. Given the time limit, it’s disappointing that when we sat down, no one came to take the order. The service of the waitress standing at the back of the restaurant with a pony tail and a mouth mask on was HORRIBLE and the RUDEST I have ever seen in the UK. When I asked her to come to take the order, she pretended that she didn’t see me. We were sitting there for ages until she finally came to take the order. Her attitude was terrible and gave us a fierce and arrogant look saying that she had to serve other tables first. After that, she said some vulgar words in Mandarin including the word “death” under her mask with her disdaining look and tutted many times. How mannerless! We ordered lobster noodles and oyster omelette. The food was okay. Noodles were good but the oyster omelettes were just so-so. Not crispy and nothing close to authentic one. The environment was so noisy and the tables were so close. Didn’t feel comfortable to talk. The rude waitress was standing next to us during dinner and glaring at people in a cocky manner. Very sick of that attitude. When we paid the bill, that waitress did not say thank you but just left. I really hope she knows we paid the service fee and she should respect her work and not to show such attitude to her customers. That’s unacceptable. She should learn how to behave. The place doesn’t deserve the hype. That waitress ruined the experience and the restaurant’s reputation. Do not recommend.

If you are looking for a genuine Chinese food experience then look no further than Mandarin Kitchen. The hustle and bustle of a busy Chinese restaurant adds to the experience. No airs and graces just good food, service and atmosphere. We dined like emperors. Two of us took down half a roasted duck, half a drunken chicken, fried prawns in egg yolk, lobster over soft noodles and morning glory. The menu is extensive but looking around at what others were being served suggests everything was as good as that we ate. We finished with toffee apple and ice cream. That was nice but my only ask would be a few more Asian choices such as mango sago pudding! The service is attentive and the food flew out of the kitchen piping hot and perfectly cooked. That said, we were not rushed and having been seated at 7pm, left happy and full just before 11pm. Located just across the road from Queensway on the Central Line makes this an essay get to and from for those in London. The bill came to £90 each, which is arguably on the tad expensive side although given the amount of food we are would normally have fed four it was pretty reasonable! Happy eating. I’m definitely returning!

I ordered lobster noodles, spring rolls, Fujian fried rice, and wonton soup. The lobster noodles were said to be at the market price, but I came here wanting to eat them, so of course I ordered them. When I tried it, it was delicious, but I was not impressed, probably because I had high expectations after hearing that it was delicious. Looking at the bill, the price for that day was 52 pounds of lobster and 10 pounds of soft noodles, making it 62 pounds. Personally, I get the impression that it tastes like this for 62 pounds. The other spring rolls, wonton soup, and Fujian fried rice were better than the lobster noodles. Although tips are taken well, the service from the staff is not very good. If I were to come to this restaurant again, I would never order lobster noodles again.

Still our favourite Chinese restaurant in London after 30 years. We go every single time we are in London. The consistency of quality is the hallmark of a culinary institution. Today was no exception. Bravo Alex and team

Don’t know why this restaurant is so popular. Mediocre food and service. I think easily can get from China town. The duck was recommended and it’s super “dry”. Clams was a bit overcook and the large prawn is nothing special too. The lobster noodles is the best among all as the meat is tender and sweet. Won’t be coming back for sure.

Famous old Cantonese restaurant specialising in seafood. Unfortunately the service is as classic old style Cantonese as the food. Off hand, sullen, attempts to charge you for things you didn’t order, arguments when you have the temerity to insist on paying for them what you ordered alone. Totally ruined my mother’s 86th birthday by trying to charge us for £10 for noodles we didn’t ask for. They became truly demented when, as a result of their rudeness and initial insistence it was all our fault, I refused to pay the service charge as well. Avoid.

Found this place near our hotel. The menu looked good and the place was packed, which is always a good sign. They could not seat us inside but had a table outside with good heat lamps. We ordered the scallops with asparagus and sweet and sour fried prawns and fresh stir fried broccoli with fresh ginger and white rice. Everything came out quite quickly and was absolutely delicious! The best part was the vegetables, broccoli and asparagus were cooked perfectly. Just enough to be done but not too raw or hard. It is difficult to find vegetables cooked like that. I highly recommend this restaurant with great food and good service.

Was on the line waiting to be attended to, skipped me to attend to the white guy instead. Addressed it quickly with them like what is wrong with you people I've been waiting for sometime, and you see a white dude behind going to attend to him first, they apologised and attended to me. Besides that the food was amazing.

I was looking for a place nearby for dinner and read that the place was good for lobster noodles. Stood at the door, the staff walked past but none really bothered to receive. After a while, one decided to show us in, waited awhile for one to take orders as none seemed to be interested again, but eventually one took the orders. Lobster noodles met expectations but certain parts can be starchy. The Cantonese roasted duck was honestly awful, felt like it was kept for days and re-fried again. It was very disappointing but nobody really care, nobody asked. sorry but won’t recommend dine in due to poor service quality. Ginger lobster noodles good for take away though if you feel like pampering yourself.

Great chinese restaurant I would say 80% Asian customers on the night we visited. They seem to have a signature dish (Lobster) that most tables were having however we did'nt know about it, most likely better for 4 people. They have 2 sittings on the night we were there so had to out by 8:30. Vast menu. You would need to book at the weekends. Well worth a visit.

Lobster noodles are a flavor that will definitely satisfy any Japanese person. Half Peking duck is enough. However, certain clerks have no service spirit at all. Not by Japanese standards, but by UK standards.

Great food as always and they made a table for us when we didn’t have a booking. But definitely won’t be going back due to this : You may land up paying 30 to 35% extra on your bill as service charges: In our meal the bill already included service charges of 15%, when the card machine came for payment it also asked to add a service charge of 15 to 20%. If I hadn’t checked the bill carefully and added it on the card machine I would have paid a whopping 30+% tip on the meal. I asked the waitress why there was a second charge through the machine and she said “the tip on the bill goes to the restaurant and the tip on the machine goes to her”. Words designed to evoke pity and pull at the heart strings. Definitely won’t be going back.

Following Jay Rayner's glowing review of Mandarin Kitchen in January 2023, we have been trying to organise a visit as we live only 30 minutes drive away and it's reasonably accessible for us. We finally made it last night. We arrived at 7.30 to find the restaurant very busy but they found us a nice table on the premise we would be out by 9.00pm. Ordinarily that kind of condition doesn't work for me, although I don't find it unreasonable when there is as high demand as they have here so we gladly took our seats. The service was exceptional: all staff wear face masks and surgical (?) gloves, which is reassuring as Chinese restaurants do not always have a strong reputation for hygiene; the order was taken promptly and our drinks arrived quickly, soon followed by our starters, which were all absolutely excellent. When we finished those, the mains came quickly too. However, at no time did we feel rushed or were given any pressure to eat and move on. Our waiter was absolutely charming, super attentive and efficient: I wished I had asked his name (we were sat at the foot of the stairs, if anyone at MK is reading this). The food was as 'seriously good' as JR had described. In particular we had king prawns with chilli and garlic salt which was outstanding. Huge, fresh and piping hot seafood: amazing. Our mains were also good although we had a shell-on king prawn in garlic crumb, which didn't work for us. The prawns were fabulous but the crumb was a messy distraction. Toilets were okay: a bit messy but clean enough. I can't wait to go here again and will definitely book next time, as it has a high tourist footfall that means they are always rammed.

We were 20 pax and were seated very swiftly as we booked beforehand. Place was adequately lit and the place is bathed in a really nice atmosphere befitting of a high-end Chinese Cuisine Restaurant. As it is a small joint (2 ground floor shoplots combined into 1), it is expected that the are is quite packed and tight. We were served a plethora of dishes that was selected by our host. The seafood fish maw soup was delicious and hearty. Followed by their signature Peking Duck which I personally feel was alright, although nothing really to shout about. The skin of the Peking Duck was not really as crispy as others that I've previously tasted but all in all still a satisfying dish. The main letdown to me was the lobster noodles, the whole dish tasted bland and had an overwhelming earthy tasted to it, I couldn't taste any hint of lobster within the sauce at all and the lobster were poorly prepared (flash frying with flour prior to it being tossed into the sauce was not done properly, the light batter coating the lobster also tasted weird). The vegetables were all okay and great. All in all it was an alright meal but the mainstay dishes were really disappointing, could've been much better.

The waiter was not so good. She couldn't make a recommendation and she was really confused and vague. On the other hand the waiter Alex was paying attention to each detail and helped us in the very end. The food is delicious. The place needs some aesthetic improvement for sure.

We went there for lunch on April 17. The food was good, and the restaurant also looks clean. After we ordered the food, one of the female young servers asked if we wanted anything to drink and then she tossed the drink menu at me. I thought it was very rude of her. When she brought the food and drink to us, she was very cold, without a smile. A new waitress who had just arrived and served us when we paid, treated us warmly with a smile. It was too bad that the first rude server gave us some bad feelings about the restaurant.

Always packed , reservations are essential ! Known specially for its seafood- lobster noodles is their highlight dish but isn’t worth 60 GBP- Peking duck was ok but a tad dry , stir fry chicken with dry chili is deep fried - I’ve eaten much better Chinese in London - over-rated!

I made the mistake of replying to the staff in Mandarin and was given less preferred treatment in comparison to my fellow countrymen at other tables. Instead of setting the table, a waiter left stacked plates with us. Tea was carelessly served, leaving spills without any attempt to clean up. Apart from lobsters, the rest of the food was average. It seemed that the chef had used the same sauce as the base for some dishes. Maybe my expectations were too high given the many recommendations from friends who visited.

The famous ginger and spring onion lobster noodle did not disappoint us But it can be better. Too much corn starch to make the sauce like glue. Lobster is reasonable and a touch tough but that’s normal European lobster. Service is reasonable and does the job. Forget the atmosphere and focus on the food. Reasonable value for money given it’s London.

Only part of the order was served initially then when the bill was brought and we refused to tip the waitress looked put out. This added to the fillet steak was really fatty and the Coke we ordered was flat. All in all it was not a very nice dining experience for quite an expensive meal!!!

Our server was lovely but the overall experience was very bad. They hadn't turned the taps on in the bathroom so I couldn't wash my hands and had to find someone to activate them. The front doors were left wide open so the entire restaurant was freezing. Our nachos came out ice cold and I had to send my mac and cheese back as it tasted terrible. I don't normally do that or write bad reviews but this was an exception.

A disappointing lunch. Had the set lunchtime menu. Enjoyed the starter. My choice of main course wasn't available. Decided on the lamb. It was all fat, only found the tiniest slivers of actual meat. Dessert was apple crumble. The crumble topping was burnt around the edges. Had to pick off the worst. Funnily, there is an "A" board outside the restaurant with a picture of a perfectly cooked crumble.

Worst service I have received. Even though some vegetables are missing like green peppers. I asked for a tray for my sandwichs since I was dining in . He told me that they don’t have them! I asked for a wrap paper to put it on the dirty table and he refused!
