Great takeaway, been using this since I was a young lad and that's many years ago. I've tried others and been let down. Yes it takes cards unlike some.

Really nice food we thought it was better than any Chinese we have had before

Specifically said no mushrooms due to an intolerance. This was specified multiple times but still when we got home my food contained a large amount of mushrooms so I haven't been able to eat anything.

Good food, good price. Ordered our usual mix of chow mein, sweet and sour Hong Kong style, special fried rice and mixed veg/mushroom, came to just under £20. Quick service, very busy. Everything was well cooked, great tasting and portion sizing was okay apart from the Hong Kong style s&s which was expensive for a tiny portion. Also zero parking, so not great for anyone disabled, had to get the daughter to run in whilst I waited a few roads away in the car.

There’s not many Chinese takeaways in Shrewsbury, but this one has the best reviews. Our takeaway was perfectly nice - not the best I’ve had but far from the worst. The portions were huge, and much of it went in the fridge to be warmed up next day! My one comment would be that because the counter had plastic sheeting in front of it, I initially thought it was closed!

i was recommended to the mandarin googled the name and for the life of me i cant find a copy of the menu ..... most of the other takeaways all list their menus' sorry mandarin had to go elsewhere

Did serve the best chips in Shrewsbury they have now changed them and now they are probably the worst

Always amazing food, great customer service nothing is ever too much trouble. Have used the mandarin for years would not go anywhere else.

We have used mandarin for 15 years but tonight we ordered a takeaway and it was awful. The chips were dry and chewy, the curry sauce was like eating powder and the gravy had no taste. We won’t be returning.

New in town so had to choose from others views, so I took a chance on The Mandarin. Well... I'm so pleased that I did! I called at 10.45pm and asked if it was too late to order for delivery, not a problem I was told. So my order was taken quickly by a very polite member of staff. 15 mins later the food arrived! I was so surprised how quickly the service was. Lovely polite delivery driver. The sweet n sour chicken and egg fried rice was piping hot, prawn crackers so fresh and crispy and more importantly absolutely delicious! As for portions, it was enough to feed 2 people!! Will definitely order from here again, well done guys!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ordered 3 dishes 2 were excellent but the chow mein was very dry as if it had been kept warm for to long

Consistently great Chinese food. 1/4 duck comes on the bone so that it stays moist, salt and chilli chicken can be dry, but still tasty. Salt and chilli prawns are excellent. Other dishes are plentiful and tasty.

Probably the worst Chinese we've ever had. The crispy beef was chewy and not at all crispy. Not sure what was in the Yung chow fried rice but very chewy, unfortunately we couldn't eat the meal.

Our local Chinese so gave it a try for take-way the first time since moving here and very disappointed. Food was cold when we collected it - clearly cooked well before the time stated for collection - and although it tasted good at the time, the dry mouth and dehydration afterwards was awful. Clearly far too much salt/MSG in the food. Staff were unfriendly, and the sheer mass of 'covid protection' filthy plastic sheeting billowing around the service counter was most off-putting. We won't be going back.

The Mandarin has been here as long as I can remember and is reliable enough to sate that evening hunger on your way home after a few beers. It is reasonably priced and reasonable quality, but not my first choice for Chinese takeaway. It's fine, but not special

Tasty and freshly cooked, and the nicest prawn toast I've ever had!

Passing through Shrewsbury I checked the reviews and called in at The Mandarin for a Special Fried Rice. Quickly prepared, piping hot, generous portion and friendly service. Excellent value too. Tasty as well obviously.

This takeaway has been around for years, I have always had a very good meal and the food is very reasonable. I will continue to get my takeaways from here. The Beef curry is very nice and the chicken. I also think other comments I have read, the evil person who abused animals worked at the Mandarin, Ditherington, not Frankwell.

This use to our favourite takeaway,but after finding out about one of the worker, Steven To, multiple convictions of animal abuse, we have to find a new place. Shame as food was good.

I asked for a tray of chips and curry sauce and a large spring roll(pancake roll) The curry and chips didn't come in a tub they came in chip paper so by the time we got home it was all mixed with the paper so i couldnt eat it. The spring roll was very salty and I was up drinking water all night. The take away has gone down hill alot. I will not return.

The best chinese takeaway in shrewsbury! There curry is the best ive tasted very unique tase and has a bit of spice , not like the other chinese curry that are just like water.

Well, we ordered a takeaway for 6 people and it came to £40... That's really cheap. The food was 'ok', edible, but obviously not the best quality. The problem for me was that a couple of hours after eating it, my two sons and I had heart palpitations, insatiable thirst, headaches, stomach aches, couldn't sleep... The symptoms lasted well into the following afternoon. As cheap as it was, and as good as it may have tasted at the time, the after-effects were so bad that it just wasn't worth it. It's a shame, because there are just not enough Chinese restaurants in Shrewsbury.

Worst food i ever had from a takeaway. Worst food i have ever had anywhere. When i rang lady taking order she was very abrupt. Do check charges for delivery as it's not free. When food eventually arrived it was very strange, beef was in a gelatinous sauce a real mess . No colour and beef did not resemble anything I ever had before. Like the sauce had been made with cornflour yeuch and totally tastless. Ribs were in a black and I mean black tar like sauce. It didn't have any flavour. Vegetables were awful apart from the tinned water chestnuts and tinned bamboo shoots so noone could get that part wrong) and was in a gloopy sauce. It all a weird colour and was disgusting. Never ever again. If you like Chinese food stay away from here. Even if you don't......... worst experience ever.

I have always found the food at the Mandarin excellent, and the value superb. The service is quick, and the management get through a large number of customers during an evening. The one thing missing is a smile from the hard-pressed receptionist. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I received a five-minute lecture about how hard he has worked to train his staff: he would not accept my point about the pleasure of seeing a smiling face. He's banned me from the take-away. I am not surprised the Restaurant has closed. There's another one in Belle Vue.

I have used this Chinese for years as we love their curry sauce and is convenient. Our last couple of visits have been a bit of a let down and the lady who deals with the phones is extremely rude.

Very very disappointed with tonight's performance!!! Have used this takeaway for years with no problem.... until tonight, meal ordered as normal, which was to phone mobile number when there outside & I'll come downstairs to collect & pay (as normal). Waited 2 hour's & no food!!!!! So phoned them to be told 'order was sent & phoned to say so!!!!! But DIDN'T receive ANY phone call. So phoned back to be told meal would be resent so cancelled on spot. Sorry to say won't be using this takeaway ever again.... don't like been lied to.

Tuvimos una comida para llevar en un sábado por la noche; frente del servicio de la casa fue muy amable, la comida era (2 x curries,1 x de langostino de arroz frito barato, 1 x, patatas fritas y 1 x costillas a la barbacoa por sólo £ 15) y las porciones eran generosos. Me temo que no pueden ser tan entusiasta como otros aquí sobre la comida; estaba bien, pero no es nada especial, pero supongo que ese distribución no se puede pedir mucho más. Volvería a probar algo diferente.

There is a Chinese take-away in Shrewsbury which, unknown to many people, has a small restaurant alongside. It is often almost totally empty, even on Friday or Saturday nights. There is one person serving in the restaurant. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever visited. Everything is freshly prepared, tasty and plentiful. The restaurant is licensed. It is a totally unpretentious place; old-fashioned and simple. You will only be served with chopsticks and a bowl if you ask for them. You will not be swamped by noisy music. I like it and can recommend it to those people who are used to simple, good, Chinese cooking.

If you like Chinese this place is a must. eat in or take away.excellent value - excellent food Large portions Very nice staff.

We ate hear last Saturday on Trip Advisor recommendations. We had booked for 7-30pm. There were no people in there at that time. We had to knock on the kitchen door to let them know that we were there. Its a strange little place with only one lady serving at that time. We had an excellent meal and found the lady very helpful and the service was really good also. WE will certainly go again on our next visit to Shrewsbury as this is a little gem. They also make a super carabian coffee.

I have a takeaway regularly from the mandarin and it is always brilliant quality and nice and fresh. The portions are good and the speed they turn around orders is good too

Probably one of the best Chinese meals I have had for a long time.Agreed, it doesn't look much from outside, but don't be put off. The food was great, the portions very generous when ordering from the a la carte menu, so be careful not to order too much unless you are really hungry, and the service just right. The restaurant is well patronised but they still managed to deliver hot tasty food. We didn't book, but we did go early, 7pm, on a Saturday night. Well worth a visit!

We had been told it was a very good Chinese so one Friday night we thought we would pick up a takeaway we had chicken curry which was awful no taste to it very bland I couldn't eat it, then we had sweet and sour chicken balls they were ok to be fair but the chips were limp soft and as for the pancake roll I may as well been just licking the salt out of the tub as it was that salty couldn't eat it! dire if I'm honest, would defiantly not go back, it's a shame as we were told it was good wheather a bad night or not but put is of I'm afraid.

The Mandarin is a strange little place, when walking in it feels as if you've gone back in time till the 1980's but don't let this cloud your judgment of the place. The food is great, I went for the barbecued ribs for a starter. They were delicious. I opted for the Szechuan Prawns for a main, these were also really nice. Even managed to eat some banana fritters in syrup for a dessert as well. Will definitely be returning!

The mandarin on the outside has that slightly tired look about it. When you eneter the restuarant the first impressions are that its a bit thrown together. The staff are quick to attend to you. However, when the food arrives , piping hot and in plentiful bowls it brought a whole new light to the experience. The food more than made up for the appearance. It was delicious. I have a particular fondness for their sizzling dishes. I would and have recommended the Mandarin to my friends.

This Resurant is small and dated but the for is good and the prices are fair.would go again if we stayed in Shrewsbury again

Visited here early on a sat eve with friends. Place was empty and decor not great but as we were hungry decided to stay. We didn't expect to have fantastic food at such a reasonable price. Dishes cost not much more than some takeaways. The food was freshly cooked excellent taste & good sized portions. The place soon filled up too. Our bill came to £66 for 4 starters & 4 mains with 2 rounds of drinks! We'd have happily paid more. Will def eat here again on our next stay in Shrewsbury. Fab little place.

Had a takeaway from here on 11/01/14 very disappointing the chicken was dry & very tough. The meal on a whole very bland. Can't see us coming back for a long time.

We have been to the Mandarin on many occasions (and for take-away) and the excellent food, unbelievable value and efficient service continue to delight. The menu is traditional, but we have never had less than an excellent meal. There is plenty of choice, and the value is there right across the menu. I particularly like the Hot & Sour soup (but take care not to burn the roof of your mouth !) My fellow diner reports the prawn roll is phenomenal. From the shredded beef and satay chicken to the fillet steak Chinese style, via the standard curry and sweet and sour dishes, the food is tasty, piping hot and consistently satisfying. The service from Rebecca (does she ever have a day off ?) is calm, efficient, friendly and unobtrusive. The wine and beer selection is small but of good quality, and keeps ahead, but not too far ahead, of the decor (remember Blue Nun ?) as well as being very cheap by restaurant standards. No, you don't go for the decor (well, perhaps as a 70s night out), but apart from the odd experimental expedition elsewhere, no other Chinese restaurant is really necessary. Fabulous on all relevant counts.

Am an infrequent visitor to Shrewsbury but always try to fit in a visit to the Mandarin. Yes, the decor is dated but if you're not too worried about ambience and want excellent and plentiful food which is keenly priced then eat here. Went there with my family just over a week ago and we had a lovely meal...six of us ate and drank for £72 and it was more than we would manage

As a regular customer I have been to this restaurant alot over the years, I would say I visit this place at least once a month with friends/family.As you can see from the other reviews the decor is very dated & shabby it is like stepping back into the 1980's inside.The woman who serves the food etc.. Is one of the owners and sometimes she can be very abrupt/rude. I personally think that is just her way but she does make you feel abit uncomfortable sometimes.The food well where do i start? I have had some fantastic meals, But I have also had some ok meals in their could of been what I ordered maybe.I think that the place does need to be refurbished & have more choice on the menu and maybe another waitress too?The price of the menu is very good fo chinese food though I have never seen such a cheap priced menu in a chinese restaurant before.If you are looking for a nice night out though the decor in this place can put you off as you can feel like you havent really been out.

Not sure who wrote the other reviews on here. They were spot on regarding the decor as in my pics, but I wasn't impressed with my food at all.The place is really 1980's inside, and the tablecloth had stains on it. We arrived at 930pm it was very quiet with the majority of tables empty and we ended up the last two there. This was a Saturday night. The lady in charge (indeed the only staff member on duty) was lovely and friendly. My partners prawn toast was massive! Loads of prawns on it, easily have fed two, and his main of crispy beef was good. My starter of butterfly prawn was a prawn in batter and flavourless and my main course (No 1), Kung Po King Prawn hot and sour was bright orange in colour and tasted of nothing at all... I must've ordered the wrong thing as usual! Inexpensive at £30 for us both with just a coke each.

This Chinese has not changed inside for years and years, (it was the same when I was a kid). Don't be put off, the food is lovely, decent price and so are the staff. We wanted somewhere where we didn't to dress up and pay over the odds, and this is just the place. Love it :)

When I first walked through the door of this restaurant I thought I had been transported ot the Seventies. The interior looks like a very old fashioned sitting room. HOWEVER, the service is friendly and efficient and, most importantly, the food is fantatstic. I come to Shreswsbury on business several times a month and will be visiting this place every time.

This restaurant is over the bridge in Frank.well.The first impression is that is very old fashioned but go in and you will have a wonderful meal.The service is first rate and every course was brilliant .This is the second time we have eaten here and we will always go back.

We had dinner here this evening and the food was excellent and extremely good value. We chose a fixed menu at £25 for two and could not find fault in the food. The decor is dated to say the least but this is well worth a visit. You will travel a long way to find better Chinese food than this.

Been using Mandarin for years and years. Decor a little cafeteria but food is always delish. Prawn toast a must!! Also very good value-last visit £20 a head including drinks! Not the place for a romantic night out but well worth a visit.
