Mamma Lucia Southend in Southend-on-Sea

Pre ordered my dinner via the website. 30 minutes before it was due to be delivered, I got a notification to inform me that it was cancelled. When I called up, the lady was extremely rude, stating they are only accepting collections, I suggested they put a note of this somewhere. I asked if I’d receive my order if I ordered via a food delivery service, she was again rude & patronising.

Such a shame! I’ve ordered from here form the day it’s open and last week it arrived my partners pizza was burnt in places along with our garlic bread and I mean black! Lucky my partner isn’t fussy and will eat no matter what but half the garlic bread got chucked due to it being so burnt. Lastnight we got a takeaway and I ordered my faithful Diavola pasta and my chicken was as hard as crispy duck. It had either been over cooked or was a few days old and put in a fridge with no covering. I literally had to pick it out and put to one side. It was a beige colour on the outside. I don’t know if I imagining things but the portions seem to of got smaller to and it’s not exactly the cheapest of places. Don’t quite know what’s happened to this place but not what it used to be.

Lost a loyal customer for sake of a £1. Ordered via just eat and wanted the chips with bolognese. Didn’t have the option to add cheese to this but seeing as the chips are £3.00 and cheese chips are £3.50 I worked out the cheese on top would be 0.50p?? As this is through just eat, I have no cash and obviously don’t expect something for nothing I added an extra dip to cover the cheese and said I would ring to check ok. Now I ring bare in mind I have placed a £40 order with £1.50 delivery & service charge. They said no the extra cheese would be £1.50 because it’s pure mozzarella?? This didn’t make any sense to me as the difference between chips and cheesey chips is £0.50 and it’s the same cheese & same size portion? They literally were having none of it so out of principle I cancelled the order. Honestly baffled me that for sake of £1.00 (which they were over charging anyway) they would rather lose a £40 order and a customer.

Been here many times but overpriced and not very nice at all. Did not enjoy sadly will not be returning. Obviously changed hands.

We ordered via just eat, the order was late by an hour so I called the restaurant to find out how long it would be. We were told 10 minuets. We waited a further 30 mins then another hour. I rang again to cancel the order, the phone diverts to a mobile number where I was told “why do you keep ringing” and “we don’t refund do it though just eat” the rudest woman I have ever dealt with over the phone running a restaurant. Waiting 2 hours for food and them being so un apologetic. I’m glad we didn’t get the food in the end as most reviews say how un happy they were with the order. I would never recommend this restaurant purely on how long we waited and how rude they are over the phone.

Very disappointing Ordered chicken dish from here before which was ok....tonight we fancied a more authentic pizza (not dominos etc) but this was SUCH a let down Chewy, tough base, horrible tomato sauce and flavourless toppings Had a meal deal, so it included garlic bread (same tough base) but the garlic was burnt, bitter and inedible! Also included (deep fried, greasy) chicken strips .... All of this disappointment and an hour and a half wait for delivery I won’t be using again ☹️

We know the chef from his previous business locally so wanted to buy meals from him at this restaurant. We were not disappointed, in fact just the opposite. We have ordered meals from them several times and each time it has been superb. They cover themselves by estimating a reasonably lengthy time of delivery bur we have found that they usually arrive before the given time - another factor in our selection process. The food is always fresh and hot, even though they have had a 3 mile journey to deliver.

We ordered take-away from Just Eat and it was inedible. The spaghetti bolognese was so over salted that my daughter couldn't eat it. I tried it and I couldn't even swap my dinner for hers because the salt was so strong. She attempted to eat the carbonara but the sauce had split so it looked like scrambled egg pasta. Such a disappointment as we love Italian food. Maybe they had an off day but based on our experience I wouldn't use them again. We both ended up having toast so not ideal after we'd spent good money on a treat. I tried to leave a review on the Just Eat page but it wouldn't update so I decided to leave it on here.

Delivered as promised in an hour, £25 plenty of food for two. Fresh, rich, tasty food. Hearty food, hunks of chicken, tasty garlic bread. Made a nice change from run of the mill chinese/Indian takeaways. Negatives shame the garlic bread & tops of mushrooms we're burnt on the tops/corners other than that highly recommend 9/10

ordered cannelloni small for £ 4.49 and a garlic bread for £1.90 and charge me £8.49 tried to call no reply will not be going again

Waited over 2 hours for a delivery. I order from this place regularly. Such a shame as the food is great. When I called the take away ended up in an argument with them. Service disgusting.......

Me and the girlfriend have ordered from Mamma Lucia every Valentine's Day for the last few years, it's pretty much tradition now. Can't say a bad word about them except the delivery service, and the card machine rarely ever works.

So fresh and tasty, if you want it fresh it is worth the wait normally about an hour, pizzas great, lasagne fantastic, in all honesty all dishes have been fantastic , would recommend to all I know.

Been a long week and as a welcomed surprise my better half had ordered a takeaway. I had the Mamma Lucia Pasta which was tagliatelle pasta in a Parmesan sauce with mushrooms and onions. This was simply delicious and I can honestly say that it was one of the best Italian meals I have ever had. Looking forward to trying something else now!!!

The chicken dishes here are the best choice and each dish would serve two average appetites. Reasonably quick delivery. Pizzas ok but not exceptional.

El primer pedido de ellos para la entrega y me dijeron que hasta 45 minutos... entrega era muy tarde y nos llevó más de una hora y media.

Dios mío es todo lo que puedo decir palabras me fallan como adoro este lugar. Podría muy fácil tomar uno de estos pizza cada noche. Y la pasta es como comer en Italia (un poco de imaginación). El personal de hablar con ellos por teléfono de la entrega son muy amables y te puedes reírse. TY por la comida.

Pedimos desde aquí por primera vez esta noche. Tuve una pizza y novio de Arabiata tenía Traviata. Estábamos un poco codicioso y pedimos un medio cada uno más pañales jalapeño y pollo pañales.

Very disappointed with this meal.Over priced poor quality.£3.50 for a hand full of chips with manufactured chilli sauce a bit of cheese absolutely terrible.Burnt chicken, they forgot to add the flavour.Clearly never eat in Italy.We will never order from here again.Argumentative guy on the phone.

A lovely family supper, shared a selection of home made pizzas all of which were delicious. And always so friendly.

The food from here is lovely - delivery takes a while but it is certainly worth it, you know your food is always fresh. Absolutely lovely!!

A friend told me about this place a while back and I have to say it's one of the best Italian take always in the area, always hot and tasty food to your door, and at a reasonable price. Friendly staff when you phone up, check out the website a must try

Authentic Italian cuisine cooked to order, this is a real gem of a takeaway. The staff are very efficient and helpful. The chef is a culinary wizard who cooks to taste rather than recipe. Value for money excellent. Once tried - this place will draw you back again and again and again.Beyond 5 stars

This little shop is tucked away in a place you wouldn't expect to find such a fantastic culinary experience. Real home made Italian food bursting with flavour. Well worth a visit.

This is one of the finest takeaways around, lovely home made using the finest ingredients, their lasagne is one of the best I've ever had and the chocolate fudge cake is amazing. friendly staff & delivery on time

Recently ordered a takeaway for the very first time from this little Italian in Sutton Road, Southend. Delivery (as promised) was within 40 minutes. Everything cooked fresh. Absolutely fantastic value. Stuffed Mushrooms to start - with Minced Beef in a lovely Tomato Sauce with Mozzarella - and loads of them! Chicken Principessa as a Main - lots of Chicken fillet pieces in a really gorgeous White Wine, Mushroom and Prawn sauce with Chips, together with an extra side order of Cauliflower Cheese. Delightful and super, super reasonable. I even called Mamma Lucia to let them know how lovely the food was. Will definitely be ordering again and would really recommend!!!

Excellent food cooked in full view while you wait is really comforting, you can see the head chef and his staff working as a team to prepare the numerous orders.I have tried many of the pizzas, the Al Forno and a couple of the chicken dishes and I have never been disappointed, great prices too makes for a very enjoyable experience.Recommended.

How refreshing to find a restaurant that delivers something other than stodgy pizza, Chinese or Indian!We had the ham and mozerella calzone, Mumma Lucias pasta and Pasta Diavila. These were delivered within an hour, all hot and on a Friday night! The portions were generous. The pasta was fresh and full of flavour, as good as any I've ever had in a restaurant.This is likely to become our new favourite take out restaurant. I would highly recommend.

We live near Chalkwell Park and this is the best pizza delivery place in the area. Good ingredients, fresh handmade base and always hot. Highly recommended!!!!

Love this takeaway - such a brilliant alternative to chain pizza places with their heavy, doughy pizzas at high prices. Mamma lucia pizzas are light and tasty, and very reasonable - a large for around £10.50 easily feeds me and my husband for dinner. Delicious, generous toppings, tastes like the pizzas you'd have on holiday in Europe. Calzone is great too! Friendly staff, and always deliver surprisingly quickly (though I do live nearby which might help!)

It may be a little pricey but what you get for your money is great tasting food that you would expect from a restaurant like ASK or ZIZZI but in a take away and in some cases tastier, staff are friendly and helpful aswell
