Great food and good value. All the family enjoyed our meals, Even though it was midweek it was full and needed to book to ensure a table. I had the pate which was excellent followed by a lovely lasagna.

This place has a lovely ambiance friendly staff great menu at good prices What more can you ask for I’ve been going for years on my own and they are very attentive and make me feel at home!

A great place in Southport for a pizza or a classic veal or chicken dish. Generous portions. Decent wine. Attentive service. Kenny Dalglish was dining there too.

Was very quiet early on a Friday eve but glad we booked as it got busy. Delicious garlic pizza bread followed by calzone and a mammas pizza followed by ice cream. It’s a popular restaurant and a staple of the southport restaurant community having been here well over 30 years and i hope for many more years

The food was lovely. I had the veal san remo which came with chips and vegetables. It was very tasty and although there was cream it was very light. My husband had the tagliatelli mama which was also very nice and not to watered down by cream. I had the torte della nonna tart which was to die for. Would definitely visit again. Staff were also excellent. It was very reasonably priced as well and good value for money.

This place is situated in the heart of the town. I’ve been visiting it for many years and consistently the food is wonderful; proper home cooked Italian food just like ‘Mamma’ would make and prepared and served by the same family for over 30 years. Many restaurants have come and gone but the consistent quality keeps this place a must go to place when visiting Southport. Highly recommend the fregola and lasagne.

We had an excellent meal at Mamma MIAs. It was recommended by a relative and we could not fault it. We were going to a show at The Atkinson close by. It was a Tuesday night and we thought it would be quit quiet. However we were wrong. At 6.30 pm it was fairly quiet but shortly afterwards it really filled up. The food and service were both excellent. I had the asparagus with ham and sauce which was delicious. My companion had the chicken liver pate which was quite a large portion. Following this we had the pork with rice and the veal in Marsala sauce. They were both fab and good sized portions. The dessert menu was most interesting but unfortunately we only had room for ice cream. We would definitely return on our next visit to Southport.

5* for Lydia for saving the day… We hadn’t noticed Mama Mia before, strangely enough after visiting Southport for many years. We have always had a family dinner party for mum at another Italian on the corner, two doors down and did so this time. We stayed over in Southport and returned to the other place the following night. A totally different team with zero interaction this time. After 20minutes without even the offer of a drink we left. Taking a sharp left we noticed Mama Mia. Immediately we were welcomed by Lydia who seated us at a table in the window and before we knew it we had wine and a menu. What a friendly young lady. We were still a bit fed up from the other place and we changed our choices at Mama Mia. Lydia was patient and smiled throughout. I can say I have a favourite dish I choose at another Italian restaurant up North but as of now, Mama Mia in Southport has surpassed that same dish and have some new customers. Chicken Mama Mia is incredible here at this restaurant. Whoever took Lydia on had the right idea. Ideal for the job and thanks again to her for saving the day! ;) Why the 4* atmosphere…. There was a single diner prattling on his phone through headphones throughout his entire meal. Old enough to know better but probably didn’t want to look silly on his own? Sounded silly mind you! ;) Amazing place, nonetheless. Will return for sure!

We have been coming to this family run pizzeria for over 40 years. Friends had sardines and bresaola to start. I was saving myself for a calzone . I always have it ….my favourite Friends had pasta with salmon , clams and a pizza. Hot and very tasty. Nice house red good value . Good service

The day before valentines We arrived and waited at the door booked for 7, no-one came for ages there people where waiting after us out the door. We got seated after 15 mins upstairs by the bar, a member of staff started lifting tables and chairs over my head to take down thee fire escape then the staff used that to get up and down so I had to move all the time. The food was amazing but then a large party arrived and their table was not free so they came up to the Bar upstairs its small and we where eating there. No room to move we got nudged pushed and could not even talk to each other then so we paid and left not again

Homely, attentive, child friendly all round nice traditional feel of an authentic Italian restaurant. Great food. It may not have the wow factor outside but your inside looking out, don't give it a swerve to go to a faceless chains nearby.

We found this place on our 2nd evening in Southport and the only downside was that we didn't find it on the 1st! The food was so good it was ridiculous. I had pizza and my partner had pasta. Both of us loved our food but also said that we'd be more than happy if we'd had each others food as well! There is a Sardinian beer option (I've neither seen or heard of it before) that i was happy to choose as well because it was only 15p more than the other beer options. A lot of Italians tend to make Italian much more expensive so this was brilliant to see. The best thing though was the service. Not too much, not too little. Just what you want. It looked to our simple eyes to be an independently run place as well. I was more than happy to pay the bill because you don't feel bad about spending money when you're giving it to such good people. When you leave full and unbelievably happy with what you've ate, that's a bonus!

A great way to end a little shopping trip with my daughter. Lunch was just delicious. Really recommend the tortellini vegetariani, pasta filled with ricotta and spinach in a creamy white wine and mushroom sauce. Absolute heaven. My daughter chose carbonara her favourite and loved it. We pigged out a bit by ordering some chips but oh my they were amazing! Crispy golden and just right. Loved the ambience and the artwork, and their open kitchen meant you could see the chef at work. The food deserves more than 3 stars but I was concerned that no tables had been moved and the restaurant was heaving for Eat out to help out. I'm not sure how they met the guidelines, but even if they did we had to pass closely by others.

My boyfriend and I went for lunch and got an al pomodoro pizza with a side of chips. Came with big tomatoes on it that were so full of flavour like fresh off the vine! Amazing! And the pizza itself was just so delicious. Would definitely recommend going here over Prezzo next door! Much more worth the price. Just absolutely loved it!

Absolutely outstanding! I have visited this restarting every time I have been in Southport, and each time I go it just gets better. The food is amazing. Beautifully presented and tastes better than anything I have eaten in a long time! The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the fruit & vegetables were obviously fresh. The staff are so friendly. They cleaned the table, served quickly and told jokes as they did so. Even though this time I had to sit outside because of my dog, the experience was just as good. So even if you are a pet owner, I would still recommend it. Best restaurant in Southport hands down. Would definitely recommend.

Great to be able to return to this restaurant and feel completely safe having a family meal out. Lots of measures in place, automatic hand sanitizer, and automatic taps/soap dispensers, screens where tables can't be distanced etc. Menu is fantastic with lots of vegetarian options (always a relief) and children could choose anything off the menu as a small plate. Can't recommend highly enough. Great to be back.

Thought I would try Mamma Mia’s this evening after hearing good reviews previously, from the moment we had been seated to the dessert was perfection. The Garlic pizza with cheese was great for starters, I had the seafood linguine for mains, which was amazing and so fresh, my Girlfriend had the carbonara which was exceptional! The tiramisu with the coffee ice cream was delicious. I wish I had tried this place sooner! Hand sanitizer all around the restaurant and the staff all wearing relevant PPE. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. A big thank you to all the staff working Monday evening!

Mamma Mia's has been there so long you kind of stop seeing it. Impromptu dinner out and too cold to wander around so we decided to go to Mamma Mia's. So glad we did. Food was fabulous. My friend who is a very fussy loved hers which is a huge compliment. I won't leave it so long till the next time.

This Italian restaurant sits in the shadow of a big chain. But the good and style of this little place is much better than the competitor next door.

Took our plates away and never came back. Didn't ask us if we wanted more drinks, didn't offer to show us the dessert menu. After 20 minutes we gave up and just asked for the bill. Another 20 minutes later I had to chase someone down to pay just so we could leave. Ruined what could have been a nice evening.

Went for Dinner tonight. This place used to serve really nice food so thought good choice as grandson wanted pizza. We ordered brushetta to start. So basic toasted bread and tomatoes no taste no effort. My grandson ordered pizza which was what he got. I order scampi. It said with rice peppers and scampi. It was obviously made days ago. I had to search for the rice there was 4 pieces of prawn the peppers were so soft I thought it was oinions. It was tasteless at £18 that was outrageous. I told one waiter that the food was not satisfactory he took no notice brought me the bill. On paying I again mentioned it and the waiter said all food was cooked fresh. Sorry not today it wasn't. No chef worth his reputation would put his name to that. would never recommend. Such a shame as at one time this was the place to go.

I visited for lunch today with my wife and 5 year old. Fantastic lunch. A real proper Italian with great ingredients and generous portion sizes. The difference in quality and quantity of great fresh ingredients compared to a restaurant chain is clear. As soon as we opened the door we were hit by the fabulous spell of fresh Italian food. We started with the anti-pasti and it was a great selection of cured meats, home made pate, fish, olives and other items. Plentiful land enough for us all to share. My daughter had a ham, mushroom and egg pizza. Absolutely fully loaded with toppings and the waiter checked that we were ok that the egg yolk was runny in case we needed it more cooked. My wife and I both had pasta dishes. Again cooked to perfection and very flavoursome and large quantities of the fresh ingredients. No room for dessert, but great coffee served with Biscottis. Highly recommended, great family friendly service and Italian authenticity. We will visit again

Busy bustling Italian restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices for a decent plate full. Always been popular just a pity the toilets are on second floor.

We called in here prior to an evening at the nearby Atkinson Theatre. We hadnt booked but one was available immediately. The service was prompt and food arrived in good time. The pizzas and pasta was excellent, the best Italian food I have had in a while. It was also reasonably priced and the place had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you are in Southport.

We met up here with some friends from southport little theatre. They suggested eating here and we were not disappointed. A lovely meal. Service was a little slow,but not so slow that we felt the need to complain. The food was really tasty and great value.

Couldnt get in Volare so booked a table here. Ordered tomato garlic bread as a starter, it was disgusting. We cancelled the mains as we just didn't trust the food after the bread. Looked at other people's plates and we were glad we did. Go to Volare instead, it's a league above mamma mias,

There are only two Italian restaurants I would visit in Southport and this is one of them. We visited this excellent restaurant last night, walked in without reservation and a table was found for us. The service offered was very friendly and extremely quick. The food was delicious, I had sardines to start, fillet rossini (red wine and pate fillet steak with chips and veg) and I shared tiramisu with my girlfriend. The red wine was delicious too. Grazie mille!

We were lucky to be given a window table with a great view over Lord Street. All started well, both our starters were tasty, and our bottle of Primitivo wine was good and not too pricey.

Previous reviews cover this very well. The food is absolutely excellent but the service is slow.... very slow. We popped in for a pasta at 5,35 which we ordered with garlic bread and the two Cappucinos. It was 7.00 before we got out and had to rush to avoid a parking fine. We accept you wait for good food but the cappucinos took 20 minutes after a reminder they came. Waiters need to be more attentive. And now the noise I thought earlier reviews were being unreasonable or petty but not at all. As the meal progressed the noise got louder and louder as people talked. I couldn’t hear my wife talking at one point. I think they need an acoustic specialist to sort this out. Food however excellent.

Great family run Italian, food is all freshly prepared, no microwaved or frozen food here!! It's an open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Saturdays are always fully booked. Loved the linguine, hot and tasty with homemade desserts to die for.

We are enjoying a very pleasant lunch - decent food, some nice wine (!), a very good menu and service was excellent - food arrived within minutes, almost as if they knew what we would be ordering before we did! Happy to recommend!
