We were here last night for drinks Today we booked a table for 7 for Sunday roast We were asked to open a tap to order our drinks, which we did We ordered our Sunday roast on the app, which we paid upfront Our different Sunday roast was very tasty After we finished, we have to wait for more than 30 minutes to pay for the drinks - on the tap - as the system was down. We couldn’t neither leave nor pay or order more drinks or get complementary coffee. The supervisor Simona was not very professional as she was only shouting / panicking giving no proper answer whether how long we should wait or if the bill can be sent to our phone. Finally we were told that the system was back to normal and that we could pay our drinks ( invoice is attached ) Very disappointing —////—-// Last night - October 26 - We had dinner & drinks, a £30 was deducted from the bill. Thanks

I'm not sure if it's worth coming back here. We came for a family lunch, the service was slow, we ordered a bottle of wine which was left in a bucket with ice by the side of the table, not opened or served. Finally the food arrived, and then we had to wait 25 minutes for the bill to be brought to us, the waitress said "you have to go to the bar to pay" ok we went and were asked for the physical card as apple pay is not accepted, wait a minute...what?.

Probably my favourite place to eat locally.

Lovely refurbishment, decor is so nice. Food was very good and we were served by an excellent waitress called Ebony who was very helpful and patient with us. This was my second visit recently and we will be returning.

Loving the new interior since the refurbishment. Really cosy and lovely place to enjoy a meal. Staff are really friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. Well worth the visit, especially if you get a table by the window looking out over the canal.

We went for a midweek dinner, as always food was perfect, lovely atmosphere, and great staff, our server was Ronnie-Ann, she was very polite, friendly and attentive, good service makes all the difference, we will be returning soon.

Pub Quiz on a Tuesday Night is fun

Excellent service and food in lovely surroundings. Menu was varied and food plentiful. We were a party of 15 and nothing was too much trouble for the staff; we were seved promptly and everyone agreed the food was excellent. A great place to eat and would throughly recommend.

Lovely meal here with my dad. Devour is good, The view is lovely. Cauliflower cheese is fab. Trio roast was delicious.

Great night and the service was amazing. We were served by Reece and Tiarney and they both did an amazing job.

Tried the shovel for the first time since it was updated. Things started well, we were shown to our table and our order was taken by a very professional young lady who told us it was her first day serving as she was normally behind the bar. Our starters came and were excellent... And that's where it started to go wrong. Before we'd finished eating our starters our mains arrived. We pointed out to the young man that they were pretty useless to us at this point seeing as we still had our starters to finish. He took them back to the kitchen and we spoke to the member of staff who took our order who assured us that fresh meals would be cooked for us and brought to the table after a suitable time. What happened next was surprising, the meals we were given clearly weren't fresh and clearly were the ones brought to our table earlier having sat under warming lights for 15 minutes or so. The bun on my burger was dry and crispy, everything on the plate was hot including the sauce and salad that clearly should have been chilled. The mushy peas on my wife's plate had a thick skin on them, the fish grimly dry and sad looking. Yum yum. We went and found the member of staff serving us and on being told she looked horrified by what we'd been given apologised and ushered us to the manger. At this point things might have been saved but while she was apologetic and willingly subtracting the cost of our disastrous mains offered nothing more, no drinks on the house, no discount of any kind. Just a request that we give them another chance. Lol. Sadly I didn't keep a copy of the bill so I'm left with a horrible feeling I actually paid a service charge for the pleasure of having half a meal. The starters were great, some of the staff are excellent but something is very wrong. Thanks for replying but you had several chances to make things right while we were in the restaurant. We've no intention of returning, customers lost forever.

I haven't been to the Malt Shover for quite some time, and so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has had a bit of a makeover. We booked a room for a wake and had a buffet lunch, which was very good for the price. The room was very well set out with a door to the canal towpath. I would recommend this lovely little pub/restaurant. And will be very happy to visit again, albeit for a happier occasion.

Food very good, but Turkey stuffing looked and tasted like a 1cm thick piece of wood pellet - obviously from Iceland and overheated . The turkey, Yorkshire pud, gravy and veg were nice. Kids enjoyed their pizza. Service was very good and serving staff (Tristan) very pleasant and helpful.

We are regular customers of Malt Shover, manly for brunches or lunches outdoor in front of the canal. Always have great time with good food and wine there. Yesterday we had dinner for the first time there after the renovation done in July. Excellent new menu after renovation with grilled lamb, wine, lemon cake, cosy atmosphere and great service. Thanks to all the staff there. We’ll be back soon

Ate here this evening 17/10/24 1 - No ice machine not working so just a G&T so not the same 2 - pint of juice for my grandson , dirty glass and black bits in the drink 3 - ordered pepper corn sauce got Burmese instead 4 - ordered rib eye - wasn’t rib eye 5 - long wait for food , ordered my grandsons ice cream middle of eating main so it would come on time 6 - Not enough staff Staff were lovely , redecoration lovely & the food was good we had 40% of mains so good for the price ….just the points above … I won’t be going back Thank you for the reply ….. wont be coming back !!!

Fish and chips super Location top Very good service

Went as a get together with peeps from work, for an evening meal, the menu had a great choice, the service was spot on, ordering was made really easy from using the QR code, we sat outside, view was lovely of the canal , I only ventured inside only to go for a toilet, on route I found the inside cosy inviting, clean and full of charm, also the toilets spotless. The staff were very helpful and approachable, , there were around 15 of us, and everybody had a great time. Will definitely be back.

It was a birthday meal and the location was perfect. Nice, clean and bright. Far enough away from other guests that it felt intimate but not too much that we were not checked upon by staff. Great choice on the menu, really good about allergies etc. Great value - we were well fed and anywhere that provides extra gravy as a norm deserved a special mention. Staff were polite, cheerful and knew their stuff - all in all a great place we will come back. Oh great value too!!

Absolutely thrilled to come to this lovely spot for the first time. Our party was 18 persons and we all had an amazing diner, very convenient to use the app to order and pay. Quick and kind service, delicate dishes, but generous. Good prices as well! Definitely will be back !!

Great food, way above the average one that you may get from a stabdard pub in the area. Very pleased with it. Good service from the staff.

Oh dear, you can change the look but not the service. This Sunday 3hrs yes 3hrs to serve a two course average pub meal not be going back in a hurry.

Very expensive here for what you get, Sunday Lunch - I had Trio of meats, It was literally 1 small piece of beef, Pork and Turkey for £22.50 !! The lady serving was nice and polite and I told her I was not happy and she said she would get the manager to come and see me but no one showed up !! Roast Potatoes were so tough and chewy as though they had been under the heat lamp for hours, and by the time the Veg had been brought to us the rest of the food was going cold, Nice pub but we wont be returning !!

We have been coming to this pub for the last couple of years and normally enjoy our time. However on 1st Sept we (4 people) had an awful time. Pub was extremely busy due to the lovely weather and last Sunday before kids went back to school. Bar staff were slow and service was even slower. Had to send back drinks on numerous occasions because they got warm due to late delivery. Going directly to the bar was also a slower experience, the newly trained staff were struggling, until Sai turned up. Basil Fawlty should have turned up with his staff, would have added to the carnage. Anyway I’m no Victor Mildrew, don’t like moaning too much. I would have given one star but the duty manager Ben saved the day. Thank you Ben for understanding the issues we raised and reflecting that on the bill, you have our goodwill and we will return. Also a big thank you to Reece and Sai who went out of their way. Both are a credit to the Malt Shovel. Sanj and party

Recieved a £100 fine for staying 39 minutes in car park for ONE pint on a dull Wednesday afternoon at 4. After manager contacted me the fine was cancelled within hours of receiving it. Excellent customer service and explanation of pub policy, now have no hesitation to return and try some food next time

This was the first and last place I visited on my trip to the UK, definitely a great way to start and end my first trip out here, great atmosphere, food, and drink, highly recommend

Exceptional service from the moment Tristan seated us. The sunny day, beautiful surroundings, and outstanding food made for a truly remarkable experience. Bravo!

The potential to have a really good time here can be ruined by a) the attitude of the staff b) the time waiting for food c) the quality of the food served. I’d read the reviews and knew there was a chance of a long wait for food however an hour wait for a Sunday roast is too long. Starters: sharing platter came without any side plates for the four of us and the lack of presence from staff meant we just ended up scoffing them down like slobs. And they didn’t bring any serviettes! But it tasted really nice though. Main: Sunday roast. Took over an hour to come. The meats were ok but the roast potatoes must have been from the day before because they were hard and inedible. Definitely not fresh potatoes. The broccoli was soggy and parsnips were burnt so badly we couldn’t eat those either. The carrots were huge, literally just cut in half lengthways unpeeled and almost raw. The bacon on the pig’s in blankets, again was so burnt that it disintegrated. So my Sunday roast just meat, stuffing and gravy as most of it was just awful. And that goes for 4/4 of us. So terribly underwhelming! It’s such a lovely venue. The lack of staff was evident and the attitude of those that were there was not great. The food really let it down. First time here and not sure we want return.

Asked for starters and main together got starters. half an hour later had to ask three times for mains roast beef , potatoes and veg inedible gave beef to the dog. Waitress apologised for wait said she there was a mix up with the tables. Nice location for a drink but won't be having food again.

The staff are very accommodating. The pub has great ambience and history, plus there is the appeal of the picturesque canal on its doorstep. Plus, with a qr code on the table you can order from outside and get table service!

I have really enjoyed my time at the Malt Shovel and I am so glad that the Malt Shovel is my local pub! The managers Rhys and Ben as well as Tiarney, Sophie, Maddie, Katie, Brooke and Ronnie were so warm and welcoming! The atmosphere was so homely and the food was amazing, if you like seafood the Prawn skewers tasted amazing!! All of the staff were so nice! This pub is also dog friendly with an amazing view of the Canal! Can't recommend this pub enough!

Absolutely phenomenal service from Reece! From the moment we were seated, Reece went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. His attention to detail, friendly demeanor, and deep knowledge of the menu made our evening truly memorable. Reece anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and made excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal. It's rare to find someone who is so passionate and dedicated to their work. If you're lucky enough to be served by Reece, you're in for an exceptional dining experience. Five stars all the way!

Celebrating 5 years, my parents treated my husband and I to a lovely lunch at your restaurant. It was crazy busy in the car park, so we weren't entirely sure we'd get a table, luckily they had an upstairs and it was lovely and quiet too. (Ive been going there since a child and ever knew there was an upstairs, either did my parents) we were very impressed. Just before ordering our waitress said, 'As it's so busy there is a 45mins wait'. Yet when the food came, I think we waited something like 20mins. Again, very impressed, especially on a busy day. My self and my mum ordered the chicken stewers, my dad had the prawn stewers and my husband had the battered chicken dish. When the stewers came out..WOW, it was a size and a half.... and beautifully cooked. We all enjoyed our lunch very much and had a lovely dinning experience.

Food arrived after over an hour, the excuse given was that there is a 45 minute wait time... not sure how that makes sense honestly? Barely any fish in the sandwich as well and also came out stone cold. Calamari had to be sent back as it came out cold before the sandwich arrived ajd hilariously came back cold again after being sent away, it arrived at the same time as the sandwiches so couldn't be bothered raising for a 2nd time that the food was cold. As someone who genuinely hates raising complaints (I can't think of anywhere else that I've had to?) the fact that I've had to do so here should be alarming. The best part is that we've been told we'll be refunded but I'm still sat here 20 minutes after being told they'd bring the card reader to do so. Drinks were OK though, so that's something. Cheers! Update - We came inside to do this and the manager had clearly forgotten... I was refunded in the end, thanks for that. Appreciated the appologies - understand its short staffed but would have appreciated some more proactivity dealing with the issues rather than forgetting about it. Also not sure about blaming the kitchen for the entire thing? Other food orders came out faster than ours. It seemed a lot more likely that front of house forgot to put the mains through but honestly don't I care either way. Also I appreciate being told it won't happen again but this isn't the first time it's happened here... granted the last time was years ago but it was the reason we didnt come back for this long In the interest if fairness if your just coming for drinks its a nice old pub, the queue for the bar and sometimes be long at peak times, but generally it's OK. Outside space is nice as well.

Had an amazing birthday meal here yesterday and the food and service was fantastic. As I'm on the mailing list I received a free bottle of prosecco for my birthday and our server Ronnie-Ann gave me a free birthday sweet treat. Remarkable service by a remarkable member of the team.

Looks like a nice pub with a good menu at first glance. Good selection of draught beers. Food was mostly awful. King prawn skewer was cooked to death and was still shelled, so all the dry meat stuck to the shell and was impossible to eat. Side salad was good but very sweet. Pizza undercooked and bland. On the more expensive side of a chain pub and definitely wouldn’t eat here again. Probably best to just have a drink here.

Nice refurb, poor experience. Took 40mins to get two tepid starters out. Not sorry to be leaving this area of London. This is the best pub around, and it's still average at best.

I’ve just been at the pub and it was my partner’s birthday. I forgot cake 🍰. Rhys made the beautiful cake for him. Thank you so much to make the amazing evening for us.

Food was not up to much. I had Penang curry, but this just looked bad. Taste was lacking too. Sticky rice looked it had been reheated in its mould several times before served. The curry had a skin like it had been heated and left and reheated. Chicken was dry. Just disappointing. Partner had the Aubergine lasagne, which she also did not like. Just disappointing.

We ordered 4 cokes and said no ice. More than one. They fill the glass full of ice. So you get less for your money. It's an old trick. We did not order food. Service was OK. Atmosphere dead. It's not like it used to be. Food was going to order, but we decided not to. Car park needs disabled bays near to the pub. Not the end of the car park. We told the pub not to own the car park so the disabled bays have nothing to do with the pub. Not many people in the pub or out side.

I visited the malt shovel today and had a lovely meal and enjoyed the great new look. I was served by shirley and she couldn't be more helpful.

Stopped by today for a drink with the wife around 2.00pm ish. The bar was totally unmanned. A lady waiting before me went into the restaurant to find a member of staff who came and served her but totally ignored me and walked off again. We therefore walked out in disgust. Was thinking of booking a table at the weekend but if this is the standard of service offered I won’t be back.

Food was really well presented and tasted lovely. The new make over looks fantastic only thing that was a let down was the length of time we had to wait for food. The restaurant wasn't full but it was busy took almost 45 mins to get food which was OK as we weren't in a rush but very hungry by the time it arrived. The veggie options on the menu were a bit limited and catered more towards Vegans but the person in our party managed to find something and said it was lovely. Our server Tash, she was so friendly and helpful. She was attentive, friendly and smiled throughout the evening. If all servers are like her then people will keep coming back.

We went here for a birthday dinner as a group of 8 & were served by the lovely Tash. She was brilliantly attentive & made sure we were taken care of at all times. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food & our drinks were kept topped up at all times. Tash was also particularly kind & thoughtful with my 8-year-old nephew - bending down to take his order & joking around with him. We had a lovely birthday meal, all thanks to Tash. :)

There were five of us for a family dinner. We were very well looked after by Reece who was fun and very informative about the menu. His recommendations went down a treat and keep up the good work Reece!

Came to see the place after the refurb and was so surprised! Had a lovely meal but it was the service from Reece that was amazing. He was so attentive and went above and beyond for us. Nothing was ever too much, had a lovely chat with him and we were served and fed within an hour! Absolute credit to the malt shovel team (everyone is fab! But Reece stood out) thank you again Reece :)

It is a shame as it has been decorated lovely but the service is not very good. We waited a long long time for our food had to go and collect our own cutlery. Our table was not cleared the whole time we were there maybe 2 hours we moved to aclean table to finish our drinks seemed to be enough staff but not actually doing anything.

Refurbished since my last visit and really well done. Parking ample, layout great. Only issue no A/C but who could predict just how hot it would be! Food great especially the reccomended skewers but sad no pizza available. Service attentive and helpful prices as expected not a rip off but not like the old days, of course. THANKYOU Tiarney and the rest of her team.

Had lovely food brilliant value for money, friendly place by the canal to enjoy a midweek meal...but what made it best was our fabulous server Reece warm welcoming and attentive, excellent skills as not only was he training a new college as well as looking after us , he also recommended other items to try and we did so well done on the up sales!!!! Will be returning again and will recommend to friends .thanku
