Great relaxing afternoon, great service from Rose who was fantastic with my disabled friend

We were served by Leah. She was incredibly polite and very quick to serve us food. It was a great environment all around!

Visited here with a friend for lunch, with my little dog Magic the spitz, great place for lunch and a few ales, situated next to a lock on the Grand Union canal very friendly and welcoming staff, dog treats and a water station for Magic, so she was well catered for and pleased. Very clean and tidy public house.

Really lovely spot to catch up with friends. Extra special thank you to Rose who looked after us!!

Dinner with the girls on a Saturday night. Our waitress Rose was amazing. So nice to have service with a smile. Service was in good time, we were not rushed despite talking so much we didn't even look at the menu for ages. Great food. The restaurant was full but the service was so good you wouldn't know it. Highly recommend.

Great place for if you are looking for nice food, reasonably priced. We were served by Tiarney. She was friendly, helpful and service with a smile 😃. Will definitely be visiting again. We hope we get Tierney as our waitress again!

Stopped by The Malt Shovel for a quick pint and some chips. The location is really convenient — right next to a busy road with plenty of parking, and it backs onto the Union Canal, offering a lovely view. The atmosphere inside was pleasant, with plenty of outdoor seating which was nice on a sunny day. It wasn’t very busy when we visited, but unfortunately, the tables weren’t very clean, which was a bit disappointing. The same goes for the toilets. Service was quick and efficient. We only had chips, but they were nicely done—crispy and tasty. Although the portion was a bit small. Didn’t get a chance to try the rest of the menu, but overall a good spot for a casual drink by the canal.

Called at a quiet time of day hence quick service, but this place does get busy and lively.

I had a fantastic time this Easter weekend at the Malt shovel. Nothing better than cold pints & hearty food next the canal in the sunshine. Kourtney, Scarlet, Leah & the team could not have been more friendly or accommodating. I am not one to write reviews often but I will be back regularly for Sunday lunch in this little bit of paradise. Cheers.

Stopped of for a beer, nice place. Ordered some fries for a snack, about six chips turned up in a bowl for just under a fiver. Pretty disgusted to be honest, I would say the amount of chips didn’t even equate to one potato.

Amazing service great atmosphere lovely place to go for food, perfect location can’t stress how lovely the staff was exceptional customer service. Can’t wait to go back.

We had Reece as our waiter today and he was absolutely fantastic, amazing he was very friendly and hospitable. We had only come for dinner but we ended up staying until the pub closed, spent a fair bit more than we anticipated but it was worth every penny because Reece was such a lovely host. Thumbs up to you Reece you make your mama proud. 👍👍👍

Food took forever to come out, when it did it was presented nicely but tasted the complete opposite. I had prawns and out of 5 I had, only 2 didn’t taste like I was eating sand. Was definitely not worth £19 for that. Completely overpriced. However, the staff were really kind and helpful

Atmospheric; canal side setting and fire side seating... A homely environment, reminiscent of times gone by, yet with a menu of both real olde skool pies, to modern day burgers... Today, looked after by Katie; in a manner allowing one to enjoy the ambience and restful characteristics of this historic venue, whilst watching barges passing by a mere 20-feet from our dining table.

Scarlett was great, beautiful vibe. Really enjoyed our time here 10/10

Had a fantastic experience at this pub restaurant. The service was incredibly attentive from start to finish, the staff were very friendly, checked in at just the right moments, and made us feel really welcome. The food was great across the board, but the highlight was definitely the steak, it was cooked absolutely perfectly, just as I asked. Tender, juicy, and full of flavour. Nice atmosphere too, with a cosy but lively vibe. Will definitely be coming back!

Nice place, staff and food were great. Everyone seemed happy. No fuss service. All other customers seemed happy. Canal made it more interesting, from other places we saw. The waitress actually new what a Malt shovel was !!!!

Really cozy restaurant with lovely food and fantastic service. The restaurant has a real pub atmosphere, while at the same time being reasonably nice. All the food, from the starters to the steak and dessert, was really delicious. In addition, the restaurant also has fantastic service, with some really nice employees who are constantly working to ensure that you have a good experience. Love the place!

Went for lunch whilst visiting friends in the area. We had a lovely lunch in a lovely setting. Unfortunately it was a little breezy so we didn't sit outside but it's such a lovely spot by the canal. The food was very good and served by very friendly staff.

Ordered the roast, the roast potatoes were hidden under the meat and were all burnt on one side. The Yorkshire pudding was hard and not enjoyable. The starters were nice but the main spoilt it, the food is usually very good so this was a let down.

I ordered a sunday Roast beef take away to be delivered ! Ordering on line was easy, delivered quickly and was absolutly delicious, still nice and hot , so scrummy Definatly 100% recommended !

We arrived at 11.30 today but they were not open until 12 no signs anywhere to say opening times Ordered drinks as soon as doors opened £12.70 for a glass of wine and half a shandy. Ordered food at the bar 5 mins later the sticky platter £19.95 for 2 of us 35mins later I asked where our food was and was told it would be another 5mins because they forgot to turn grill on! Well it would have been nice to tell us. The sticky platter...or to be accurate a large dinner plate with 4 saucers. Saucer 1: 1 dessert spoon of Houmus 1 dessert spoon of Tzatziki with what looked like 2 short chocolate fingers (Lamb Koftas) Saucer 2: ( this the sticky part I think) 8 chicken bites ( like popcorn chicken without the seasoned coating) drizzled with enough sticky red sauce to coat the top 2. Saucer 3: pulled pork and apple bonbons ( I have no analogy for these other than burnt ping pong balls ) on a bed of old salad carefully disguised with Balsamic vinegar And last and definitely least Saucer 4: well what can I say.. 6 ( red cloves of garlic) I do apologise after checking the menu again it was Chorizo and to complete this Sticky Platter 2 saucer size( yes they like saucers at the Malt Shovel) cold wraps so thin they fitted in-between the saucers. In these pics we had tried 1 lamb kofta and 1 pork bonbon. Never again.

Visited this afternoon, food was lovely and our waiter Tristan was brilliant. BUT the restaurant was so overbooked it was ridiculous we had pre booked but still had to wait an hour for our table. We weren’t the only ones the staff were apologising constantly. They ran out of cutlery, glasses and the coffee machine broke down. The owners owe a lot today to their staff who held things together under very unfair circumstances.

Staff are absolutely. Nice ambience too. Food varies. Things tend to be better when it is not busy. What would have been a wonderful meal was spoilt (yet again) by elements if it being cold. Shame as everything else about it was good. Lovely hot perfect potatoes, cold prawns! Other bits somewhere in-between.

The food was really tasty, I had the lamb kebab and my partner had a vegan burger and we were both very happy with the selections. Tiarney who served us was very friendly and helpful with rhe menu when I could not make my mind up what to have she gave good recommendation.

We recently had lunch here. It was our first visit but we'll definitely come here again when in the area. I had fish and chips and my partner had lasagne. We both loved the meal. The staff were very friendly and it was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Fab and unique dishes, lots of gluten free options and Katie was lovely. Good disability access and supportive info from staff, nice and relaxing environment in the daytime just as we wanted

Set in a quiet location by the canal, you are first met by welcoming smiles from the staff. The range of delicious dishes they have available are suitable for all dietary requirements. They also have an impressive selection of beers on tap. The Malt Shovel is also host to exciting events, such as game night, quiz night and live music. I will be visiting more often. Still visiting, the food and service just keeps improving. Thank you again Katie and Leah for your help today.

A great pub on a sunny day sitting in beer garden overlooking the canal.The staff were welcoming & provided friendly efficient service. A good selection of drinks and food was also excellent.We will definitely be back when in the area again.

Massive improvement. Gorgeous food and excellent service. We didn’t visit here in a while after a few times of very bad service. But thanks to Tia we had a lovely meal. It’s refreshing to have found somewhere local with excellent staff. Tia is absolutely excellent at her job and I’m not even sure if she was breaking a sweat! (On a Sunday!!) She is a true credit to any hospitality business. Her shift ended before we finished so didn’t get a chance to thank her, but thankyou very much Tia ❤️

Booked a table on Saturday 8th march arrived slightly early and was taken to the table, ordered our drinks and then waited for someone to take our food order and in the end had to ask to order our food 15minutes after we received our drinks. We asked what the pie of the day was and the lady checked. Everything we then order they didn’t have. No pizza dough. No fish cakes. I ordered my daughters food and some sides whilst me and my dad decided what to order. It took over 45minutes for them to deliver a child’s meal and a side of onion rings and halloumi fries. The outside area was fairly busy and we were one of 4 tables in the restaurant but at no point was we told that the food wait time would be 45minutes plus. If we were told this we would have gone some where else. The service was slow and no communication about missing food items at all. We arrived at 1640 and got my daughters food at 1745. Over an hour wait to get some dinner. Was hoping to have a relaxing evening out but no we ended up going home and ordering dinner from papa johns. Waste of time and money in my opinion would not waste time revisiting.

Starters were delicious however waited long time for mains and they were overcooked. Fish was like a rock steak overcooked and chicken rubbery.

Enjoying a late lunch here. Ervis, Rosie and the crew giving 110% as usual. Very helpful staff with a smile. Fully loaded Brisket Sandwich hit the spot. Yum.

Good location along the canal but very poor food quality for the price. Ordered breakfast which was delivered wrong and with missing items. Also, veggie sausages were cooked to the point of becoming bone dry. Although our waiter was kind and apologised, given the price and quality we are very unlikely to return again.

We had a lovely lunch today. The atmosphere, as always, was very welcoming and the staff very friendly. I can definitely recommend it, especially on a rainy day, when you don't really know what to do with yourself or after a long walk along the canal. I had the Moroccan chicken skewer, which was ready tender and spicy. My husband had the Hoisin Duck pizza and the crust was thin and crispy, just like it should be. (We lived for 2 years in Italy, so we know how a pizza should taste, although you don't get such a variety of pizzas there, they like traditional.) We'll be back soon and that is a promise.

Went moat shovel pub yesterday with my pal I had plateau and my had buttermilk chicken burger food was great and staff where great too parking was easy just put reg number in and parking was free Pleased all round

Amazing local pub with good quality food and service..been a regular here for over 10 years. Nice warm homely atmosphere with a great team. A very welcoming atmosphere and staff go above and beyond with service. Special mention to Tee who always looks after us. Very friendly and professional and always gives us a memorable and comfortable experience.

The service was brilliant, I had the best veggie burger I've ever eaten and the atmosphere was great. Our server was attentive throughout and everyone had a lovely evening. Definitely, have the sticky toffee pudding, too!

Cosy pub by the canal! I quite like this pub for it's cosy ambience, specially the large fireplaces make it so comfortable in cold days. We have been here few times. Large parking lot, lovely food, friendly staff and good service. Nice drinks available, I liked the bottle of Malbec. We took a stroll by the Grand Union Canal on a dry day.

Fantastic Sunday roasts, ample portions, great tasting meat and vegetables, very friendly and prompt service. Recommend to anyone wanting a great meal and a lovely atmosphere.

We went to the Malt Shovel on Sunday to have a meal as we always go to this place and love the food but this time we also have been server by a lovely lady Rose, she made our evening very cozy, and the food was delicious.

Lovely gastro pub on the side of the canal - highly recommend - so nice that we usually visit once or twice a week food is delicious - the steaks are our go to - cooked to perfection and the staff are so friendly and attentive - great job all and so nice to have some familiar faces back

Love this pub by the canal. Somehow I've only been here in winter, and every time I tell myself I should come back in summer to sit outside. The pub is cozy with small alcoves and sifferent levels with plenty of choice for seating. There's a few log burners which is just lovely. Food is great, and not just out from the freezer! Good options for vegetarians too. Plenty of parking. If you've walking the 'Huntsmoor Park and Little Britain Lake from Brunel University' trail, this is a great stop at the end.

We visited the molt and shovel for our five year anniversary dinner. Not only was the food amazing and the fore place warm but the service we recieved from Ebony was top service. She was friendly, service was quick and happy to answer any of our questions. Will definitely visit again.

Had a beautiful meal with my partner. The log burner, decor and ambiance was fitting for the cold weather outside. Food was amazing (would definitely recommend the pie!) and prices were reasonable. There was also lovely vegetarian options (and vegan too!). Our highlight was Ebony who provided excellent service by accommodating our needs, checking up how we were and whether we were happy for the food and also was very sociable and chatty (which is a must in my eyes!). Based on this, I definitely recommend this place and will be going back for another meal soon.

Really nice pub/restaurant by the canal. Menu has had a revamp but lots of good choices and the whole place has had a small renovation which has brought out some more character. Warm and cosy in the winter but also in the summer it's nice to have a beer and snacks in the garden or by the canal. Good choice of beers and wines.

Our visit was on Christmas Day and although very busy the service was speedy and food excellent. Serving personnel were very friendly and helpful. We couldn't finish all the food as the servings were huge so we were able to have a "doggie bag" to take home. Very lovely experience. Thank you one and all.

Waited over an hour from starter to main. Mains arrived..6 ordered 5 came, wad told sorry we haven't got the Wellington! 3 out of the 5 meals were microwaved. Summary: service rubbish, food rubbish. Will not be going again & a 2 rating is generous
