Mother’s Day at the Malt Shovel. Extremely busy but all good. Look forward to going back when less busy.

Visited this afternoon, food was lovely and our waiter Tristan was brilliant. BUT the restaurant was so overbooked it was ridiculous we had pre booked but still had to wait an hour for our table. We weren’t the only ones the staff were apologising constantly. They ran out of cutlery, glasses and the coffee machine broke down. The owners owe a lot today to their staff who held things together under very unfair circumstances.

Big food selection, good beers choice, very nice position just next to the canal. Recommanded!

The food was really tasty, I had the lamb kebab and my partner had a vegan burger and we were both very happy with the selections. Tiarney who served us was very friendly and helpful with rhe menu when I could not make my mind up what to have she gave good recommendation.

We were served by Leah who gave us a brilliant service 👌

Set in a quiet location by the canal, you are first met by welcoming smiles from the staff. The range of delicious dishes they have available are suitable for all dietary requirements. They also have an impressive selection of beers on tap. The Malt Shovel is also host to exciting events, such as game night, quiz night and live music. I will be visiting more often. Still visiting, the food and service just keeps improving. Thank you again Katie and Leah for your help today.

A great pub on a sunny day sitting in beer garden overlooking the canal.The staff were welcoming & provided friendly efficient service. A good selection of drinks and food was also excellent.We will definitely be back when in the area again.

Massive improvement. Gorgeous food and excellent service. We didn’t visit here in a while after a few times of very bad service. But thanks to Tia we had a lovely meal. It’s refreshing to have found somewhere local with excellent staff. Tia is absolutely excellent at her job and I’m not even sure if she was breaking a sweat! (On a Sunday!!) She is a true credit to any hospitality business. Her shift ended before we finished so didn’t get a chance to thank her, but thankyou very much Tia ❤️

Booked a table on Saturday 8th march arrived slightly early and was taken to the table, ordered our drinks and then waited for someone to take our food order and in the end had to ask to order our food 15minutes after we received our drinks. We asked what the pie of the day was and the lady checked. Everything we then order they didn’t have. No pizza dough. No fish cakes. I ordered my daughters food and some sides whilst me and my dad decided what to order. It took over 45minutes for them to deliver a child’s meal and a side of onion rings and halloumi fries. The outside area was fairly busy and we were one of 4 tables in the restaurant but at no point was we told that the food wait time would be 45minutes plus. If we were told this we would have gone some where else. The service was slow and no communication about missing food items at all. We arrived at 1640 and got my daughters food at 1745. Over an hour wait to get some dinner. Was hoping to have a relaxing evening out but no we ended up going home and ordering dinner from papa johns. Waste of time and money in my opinion would not waste time revisiting.

Starters were delicious however waited long time for mains and they were overcooked. Fish was like a rock steak overcooked and chicken rubbery.

Enjoying a late lunch here. Ervis, Rosie and the crew giving 110% as usual. Very helpful staff with a smile. Fully loaded Brisket Sandwich hit the spot. Yum.

Good location along the canal but very poor food quality for the price. Ordered breakfast which was delivered wrong and with missing items. Also, veggie sausages were cooked to the point of becoming bone dry. Although our waiter was kind and apologised, given the price and quality we are very unlikely to return again.

We had a lovely lunch today. The atmosphere, as always, was very welcoming and the staff very friendly. I can definitely recommend it, especially on a rainy day, when you don't really know what to do with yourself or after a long walk along the canal. I had the Moroccan chicken skewer, which was ready tender and spicy. My husband had the Hoisin Duck pizza and the crust was thin and crispy, just like it should be. (We lived for 2 years in Italy, so we know how a pizza should taste, although you don't get such a variety of pizzas there, they like traditional.) We'll be back soon and that is a promise.

Went moat shovel pub yesterday with my pal I had plateau and my had buttermilk chicken burger food was great and staff where great too parking was easy just put reg number in and parking was free Pleased all round

Amazing local pub with good quality food and service..been a regular here for over 10 years. Nice warm homely atmosphere with a great team. A very welcoming atmosphere and staff go above and beyond with service. Special mention to Tee who always looks after us. Very friendly and professional and always gives us a memorable and comfortable experience.

The service was brilliant, I had the best veggie burger I've ever eaten and the atmosphere was great. Our server was attentive throughout and everyone had a lovely evening. Definitely, have the sticky toffee pudding, too!

Cosy pub by the canal! I quite like this pub for it's cosy ambience, specially the large fireplaces make it so comfortable in cold days. We have been here few times. Large parking lot, lovely food, friendly staff and good service. Nice drinks available, I liked the bottle of Malbec. We took a stroll by the Grand Union Canal on a dry day.

We came in today(a sunday).Our servers name was Maddie and Sophie was the manager on duty.Excellent customer service and very attentive.You can tell Sophie is extremely professional and respects her team as they equally respect her.Sad to see the Roasts had sold out but amazing to see that the Malt shovel is clearly doing so well.Thank you to Sophie and her team for making our experience a good one,Definitely coming here again. 👍 👩‍🍳👩‍💼

Fantastic Sunday roasts, ample portions, great tasting meat and vegetables, very friendly and prompt service. Recommend to anyone wanting a great meal and a lovely atmosphere.

We went to the Malt Shovel on Sunday to have a meal as we always go to this place and love the food but this time we also have been server by a lovely lady Rose, she made our evening very cozy, and the food was delicious.

Lovely gastro pub on the side of the canal - highly recommend - so nice that we usually visit once or twice a week food is delicious - the steaks are our go to - cooked to perfection and the staff are so friendly and attentive - great job all and so nice to have some familiar faces back

Love this pub by the canal. Somehow I've only been here in winter, and every time I tell myself I should come back in summer to sit outside. The pub is cozy with small alcoves and sifferent levels with plenty of choice for seating. There's a few log burners which is just lovely. Food is great, and not just out from the freezer! Good options for vegetarians too. Plenty of parking. If you've walking the 'Huntsmoor Park and Little Britain Lake from Brunel University' trail, this is a great stop at the end.

Love a pub with a real fire going all day! Good coffee.

A warm, cosy pub with friendly attentive staff and superb food.

Really nice pub/restaurant by the canal. Menu has had a revamp but lots of good choices and the whole place has had a small renovation which has brought out some more character. Warm and cosy in the winter but also in the summer it's nice to have a beer and snacks in the garden or by the canal. Good choice of beers and wines.

A very warm welcome from Simona and Ervis. The food was great and the atmosphere was exceptional we will come back again soon.

We visited the molt and shovel for our five year anniversary dinner. Not only was the food amazing and the fore place warm but the service we recieved from Ebony was top service. She was friendly, service was quick and happy to answer any of our questions. Will definitely visit again.

Had a beautiful meal with my partner. The log burner, decor and ambiance was fitting for the cold weather outside. Food was amazing (would definitely recommend the pie!) and prices were reasonable. There was also lovely vegetarian options (and vegan too!). Our highlight was Ebony who provided excellent service by accommodating our needs, checking up how we were and whether we were happy for the food and also was very sociable and chatty (which is a must in my eyes!). Based on this, I definitely recommend this place and will be going back for another meal soon.

Lovely service from Tiarney. Had the Sunday Roast which was flavourful. The pub is nice and pleasant. Very clean, with a lovely atmosphere.

Our visit was on Christmas Day and although very busy the service was speedy and food excellent. Serving personnel were very friendly and helpful. We couldn't finish all the food as the servings were huge so we were able to have a "doggie bag" to take home. Very lovely experience. Thank you one and all.

Waited over an hour from starter to main. Mains arrived..6 ordered 5 came, wad told sorry we haven't got the Wellington! 3 out of the 5 meals were microwaved. Summary: service rubbish, food rubbish. Will not be going again & a 2 rating is generous

Had a lovely Xmas lunch with colleagues from the office. The service was outstanding and personal, even the manager I think was called Elvis came over to greet us and we had a lovely chat. We will definitely be back soon

Had an amazing time! The food was amazing. And the service was just as good. Our starter was the cheesy flatbread and I was so impressed with how much cheese was actually on the flatbread. Not one crumb was left! We all had steaks and they were cooked beautifully and went down a treat for us all. The only request I would have is to have a little bit more icecream for the puddings, but this problem could have been solved if I had just asked for some more! I believe our server was Rose and she was incredible! Never had to wait on anything and she always checked we had everything we wanted. Friendly face and amazing service! Would love to visit again and will recommend to all.

I regularly eat at this pub. The food is probably the best in the area and it has a decent range of beers, etc. Staff are always friendly, but service on occasion can be hit and miss. There have been a few occasions when going to the bar I've encountered a few patrons looking puzzled because there is no one behind the bar.

We had a lovely experience at The Malt Shovel, staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. The pub itself felt very festive and cozy, perfect for the Winter ahead and a very inviting bar and selection. The food we ordered was delicious, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the pie of the day which was delicious, along with accompaniments and a very good portion. We will definitely be back, and we very much enjoyed the pub quiz. Definitely on the pricier side but we had an offer by signing up the app which was a nice bonus.

Lovely atmosphere, apparently it was done up recently. Huge portion of fish and chips and lovely lemon tart dessert. We had the elderflower drink and it was so refreshing. Definitely coming again for xmas.

When it comes to London pubs, you don't get much more cosy and wholesome than The Malt Shovel. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and the service by Amy and Leah was impeccable. Will definitely come back.
