Malo in Brighton and Hove

5 stars all around! I discovered the duke street location a few months ago and got absolutely hooked! It was one of the top places I wanted to bring family when they came to visit. Great assortment of empanada flavours, well made coffee, and super friendly and welcoming staff. I also love that they have Argentinian snacks, wines, and mate gear 🧉😍 sitting in is a bit tight at duke street but outside seating makes up for it, and it looks like the newer st James site has more inside seating space. Definitely go! And try the ham and cheese and spicy prawn empanadas 🤌🏼🤌🏼

Amazing experience. Chorizo chino are highly recommended but all flavours we tried were amazing. Good, fast service as well. A plus.

The food was a pleasant surprise, stumbled across this place when looking for lunch. The steak sandwich was really nice and lots of flavours to choose from of empanadas, which had generous filling. Would recommend!!

I absolutely love this place. Empanadas and alfajores are delicious, staff friendly and kind, the prices convenient and the atmosphere cosy. Malo is the best place to go for a light meal in town. My favourites empanadas are "Spicy prawns" and "apple with dulce de leche" (They have options for vegan and vegetarian people too) .

I chose the meal deal with 2 empanadas & a drink, loved the beef baquena & spicy prawn flavours in those little Argentinian Cornish Pasties! Food was served piping hot, which I appreciate. The coffee was not like any flat white I've had before, but it was fine as a milky coffee after lunch. The staff were all friendly & engaging, service was prompt, I will return!

Extremely tasty empanadas and very good service. We popped by for a quick snack and genuinely got pleasantly surprised. Very sweet service and delish food!

The food is sensational and fresh, everything you look for in a bite the perfect balance of Umami, salt and spice on the pallette. Very reasonably priced for 2 people, 6 empanadas and 2 coffees for under £30. Keep up the amazing work, Brighton needs more family run places like this. I will be returning swiftly!

True Argentinian flavours ❤️ we visited Brighton and couldn't leave without eating some empanadas at Malo!

We ordered 2 meal deals (2 Empanadas and a drink) Baqueano, Chorizo, Spicy Prawn and Spicy Chicken. It was delicious! The staffs were friendly; location is good and cozy atmosphere.

Excellent all round..lovely lady, cool design with the rubber stamps on each empanada... lovely little snack on the way down the road.

I was absolutely happy when this litte shop opened. The empanadas were really tasty. Definitely worth every penny. I shall be frequently popping in. So glad you have opened.

Having never had an empanada before, this was a great experience! The service was so kind, suggesting which flavour to go for which excitement, they were almost more excited than I was! I enjoy a Cornish pasty but I do think these are better (I’m well aware they are not the same and I may have offended someone but they aren’t completely worlds apart 😅) so if that’s all you have to go off, like me, try these! It was buttery and flakey, but the crust was stodgy in the best and most hearty way, it was delicious! I will definitely be back, probably to try some other flavours and see which is my favourite! Thanks so much ❤️

Was in Brighton for the day and popped in to get a takeaway coffee, and decided to sample a few takeaway empandas... they are really good and the best empandas. Perfect pastery and absolutely delicious filling. The next time I'll be visiting Brighton, I'll make sure to drop by to get a load more.

Fave lunch spot! I’ve been here countless times now and always take friends and family when we’re looking for a quick and easy lunch too. 2 empanadas and a soft drink can is £8.50 which is definitely worth it. Plenty of veggie and vegan options, and they’re more filling than they look! The staff are always so kind too.

B'S HONEST FOOD REVIEW ♡ Location ♡ Malo is located in the lanes , easy to get to by bus, parking near & minuets walk from town center. Atmosphere ♡ Small little shop, i was greeted by lovely staff , the shop was clean and tidy. It's not very spacious but it feel quite cosy. I love the fact that they sell argentinian dolce de leche and biscuits. Food ♡ It was £9 pound for a meal deal - 2 empanadas and a soft drink. I had the cyprese and the spicey chicken . The cyprese empanada was sooo cheesy , filled with tomatoe and herbs . The spicey chicken empanada was moist and not too hot , it had a slight kick that is bareable .

Lovely food, lovely location, lovely staff and dog friendly. Easy to understand menu and plenty of choice for all of us (3). The pasties were tasty and served nice and hot. Would recommend.

The place and the service are very good, there is a lot of variety, I have ordered meat and for my husband spicy meat but they were very spicy, he couldn't eat them, the meat ones were delicious, good preparation, good dough, only they are with ground meat and like Tucumana that is a sacrilege for me if it were made of common meat they would be a bomb 🫣 but it wasn't bad, I give them 5 stars because I want to try other things again 🤗

I used to live really close to this place and would come by for lunch or breakfast most days. This place is flipping amazing, the staff are lovely, and seating areas are kept clean and tidy, and the food is delicious! This place also has some super underrated coffee. if you come you must try the Malo empanada and the chorizo.

Great Empanda's, always delicious. I often go for the 2 X Empanda's and a Beer for £11.50. The misses has 2 X and a glass of the house wine (Malbec) for £12.50 I always have the spicy chimichurri. They are dog friendly!

Visited here on Wednesday for lunch; I got a Malo, a Baqueano, and my partner got a Baqueano and their limited edition cheese & onion empañada. To put it simply: they were amazing! Succulent, hot (in temp.) and the flavours were perfectly balanced. My partner doesn't normally like blue cheese, but she tasted a bit of my Malo empañada and thoroughly enjoyed it, so that's something! Word of note however: their spicy chimichurri *is not spicy* in slightest, but very flavourful. I would get it on flavour alone.

A must to go if you go to Brighton. Very good atmosphere, cordial and happy service and amazing food quality. Probably the best Argentinian Empanadas that I have tasted in the UK and they also do national deliveries.

Great Latin experience, delicious empanadas and they got their special hot sauce. In addition, the staff are so lovely, they are always friendly and helpful.

The service was lovely but the empanadas were nothing exceptional... tasty but not amazing - maybe I made a bad selection. For the price I would try it again but I was not very impressed by the flavour.

We have often stopped by Malo for an empanada (or two) as a snack while in Brighton. These delightful pastries are packed with such delicious fillings - the blue cheese with Brighton Blue and walnuts is truly outstanding. One of my other favourites is the spicy beef. Service is always fast and friendly!

A hidden gem in Brighton. The empanadas a packed with flavour, their dip sauce is GREAT. The price is also really good. Its a nice and conveninent place to eat, quick and friendly service. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and A LOT OF options that will meet different needs and tastes. Wish i tried the Lime Pie they have, might go back and have a taste. The coffee is also good.

I had delicious empanadas and Malbec argentinian wine <3 . They have vegetarian and vegan empanadas too. They also sell other argentinian products such as dulce de leche, alfajores and alfajores de maizena. On top of that they play great Argentinian music. Loved it.

Holy cow this is it everyone. One of Brighton’s Bang for the Buck, authentic, excellently prepared and delicious. Proper south american here to confirm and I love it because it doesn’t have to be super expensive like other places.

Each had two empanadas and a coffee, Delicious. £7.00 each, hearty lunchtime snack. Cheery staff.

Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to try empanadas! Whenever I feel homesick and miss my mom's cooking I come around and get a box. Even though some of the flavors are not traditional, all of the ones I've tried are great (I'm personally a big fan of Brighton Blue). There's a lot of vegetarian and vegan options too which isn't super common for Argentinian restaurants. Gracias por traer un poco de Argentina a UK.

Stumbled upon by accident, and what a lucky and fantastic find. Food was superb, lots of empanadas to choose from to suit every taste. Friendly informal service to eat in (just 6 x 2 seater tables inside) or take away. Service with a smile and handmade baked sublime empanadas too!

Very tasty little pasties that easily rival our Cornish varieties for good flavour. In particular the "chimichurri" and the ham and cheese are delicious. Empanadas full of flavour! Go here if you want the best empandas in Brighton and possibly the UK. Lots of options to choose from including multiple vegetarian ones. Staff was super friendly and answered our questions very patiently. The shop is located on a street closed for cars and full of chairs underneath trees, so you can enjoy your tasty empanadas in peace !

The most amazing empanadas! After booking Baqueano for dinner tonight we thought we would stop by Malo to try some empanadas prior to our visit, they are so delicious! We are visiting Brighton on our honeymoon and cannot wait to go back to Malo tomorrow to grab some more empanadas to take home with us to finish off our trip! The spicy beef are especially good! Lovely family run business!

So glad we found this cafe, the little pasty things are amazing. We tried 4 and then ordered another 4 as they were so nice. Close to the Pavillion and really friendly staff. The pastry is so much lighter than Cornish pasties, and the fillings taste great. My favourite was the Chorizo one, my wife liked the sweet Apple and Dulce one best. Lots of flavours to choose from. And the Argentine beer was nice to accompany them.

Really impressive family owned empanada place. We tried the beef, bagueano, chorizo, blue cheese, dulce de leche and Nutella/banana. Felt like a grandmother had made. Some Argentinian beer to wash down. Staff were an absolute delight.

This place has probably the BEST empanadas in the UK! I’m used to the fried empanadas, but these are baked and they have so many choices!! All of them were delicious!! They also have sweet empanadas if you fancy them. There is a seating area downstairs and a larger one upstairs. The staff was super friendly as well!

My partner and I love their Banana and Nuttella filled empanadas, so much chocolate and they're all so full of flavour! 🤤 I love that they're dog friendly as well! With its traditional flavors it makes you feel that you have your country a little closer. This was precisely the reason why we have become regular customers. The prices are right, I would even say they are cheap if we take into account the quality of the food. You should definitely try them, you will not regret it.
