Mahfil in Birmingham

Came here for my birthday meal celebration with my family. The food was excellent as was the service. Have visited before and would definitely visit again.

Atmosphere can be loud. Good menu, with food cooked to perfection. Great service, friendly and attentive. Overall can not fault the place, food or staff

Visited the Mahfil for a family birthday celebration. It had been some time since our last visit and we were warmly welcomed. The menu is extensive and we were spoilt for choice in choosing our dishes. I opted for the Paneer wrap which was just as nice as I remembered followed by Chicken saag balti (with a boiled egg) and a wonderful vegetable pilau rice. It was accompanied with garlic and coriander nan. Due to medical reasons one of our party had to eat very low fat and our waiter was very polite and helpful supporting the choices off the menu. The food was absolutely wonderful and tasted really fresh and spicy. The staff happily singing brought out a birthday desert of a fab choc cake to complete our night. We really enjoyed our evening. The Mahfil is a great restaurant and deserves to do well. Make sure you visit as The Green wouldn’t be the same without it ! Oh and don’t forget you can now take your own drinks !

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Mahfil, we hired the Mahfil lounge (upstairs) for a private event, 30 of us and it was brilliant. The food was beautiful, all my guests commented on how good the dishes were. Our bartender was excellent, thank you again! I would highly recommend this venue for your events, the room is beautiful too.

Went as a couple on a Saturday night and were in and out within an hour. Just as we were sitting down, the menus appeared and within minutes of ordering, the starters came. Starters finished and within seconds the main course came out. Waiters were hovering throughout our visit which made us feel uncomfortable. Food wise, the curry was okay but chicken masala sauce was sloppy and resembled soup.

I have to say it's the best Indian cuisine I have had in a long time well done Mr B keep up the good work and your staff is top notch.

Just popped in for a quick dinner. It was busy but we were given a table after a short wait. The service is still great and the food was really good. Ordered a couple of baltis and naan bread and a glass of wine.

The restaurant actually catered for an event at home with 100 guests. Excellent feedback from guests both about the taste & quality of the buffet type service and the live Dosa station. Third time Im using their help!

We both thoroughly enjoyed the food, it was very tasty and to a high standard. Service was quick and excellent. The only critique was that my disabled partner found the front entrance access very difficult to negotiate and the seating was somewhat cramped. There are 2 steps into the restaurant and no grab rails. However the young waitress was extremely kind and helped to give him a hand getting up from his seat which he really appreciated. If it were not for the access issues we would have given it 5 stars.

Visited Mahfil Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge with 2 friends last night. The cocktails and the food were fabulous. The staff were really friendly and the service was exceptional.

10 for me the best food ever, so tasty and the staff are really helpful and knowledgeable about there fantastic food, from eat in to takeaway never disappointed, by far the best restaurant in the country

Really great restaurant. Its always our go to for a great curry. We are never disappointed with the food and all the staff are always really attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend.

A pleasant evening with friends in a very attractive restaurant which, on a very hot day, had wonderful air conditioning. Welcoming from the moment we walked in. A well presented menu with lots of choices, both traditional and contemporary, catered for all of our party's likes and we were well pleased. When the food arrived it was well presented, especially the starters, and extremely tasty. Everything was well cooked, warm, and all arrived at one go; not always the case for groups. All our group enjoyed a great meal. Just two minor comments which loose a point. Service was a little on the slow side which, considering the restaurant was nowhere near full, was a bit irksome. Our table, in a side booth, was a bit small for four people and gave a very cramped in feeling which left me sitting half off the seat and into the alley. Overall though an enjoyable night out and I'll go back again. I'll just make sure and ask for an open table next time!

Nicely presented , clean and comfortable restaurant. Sensible, Professional and prompt service. Delicious freshly prepared food (Fresh Popad, Veg Birihani Lamb Madras, excellent naan n chappatti 5 stars). Good wine selection and 2 beers on tap Inc. Cobra. Realistically priced. Several couples and a family gathering with young children demonstrated a great variety and great standard of clientelle. Parking immediately outside- free! This restaurant is of a much higher standard than those in nearby Cotteridge and Stirchley. Need to book Friday n Saturday.

My partner and I visited Mahfil at Kinhs Norton Green last night. I had written a review after our first visit in February 2023 and wanted to visit again when we had a beautiful meal. Therefore I was willing the food to be as good, I wasn’t disappointed! I had the Potato Balls and Garlic Mushroom starter- it was delicious, lovely side salad, crispy potato and fab mushrooms, a great start to the meal. Then I had the Lamb Shank, after dreaming about it all day, I was willing it to be perfect - it was! The lamb was beautifully cooked, tender and tasty, the gravy is fruity, brilliantly supports the lamb without being too spicy. I prefer to eat my mine with plain naan and mint yoghurt sauce. I loved it! I would happily eat this meal over and over again! My partner had the Mango and Chilli Fish starter followed by Chicken Jelfezi which he said was very tasty too, along with a Garlic naan. All in all an excellent meal. The coffee at the Mahfil is extremely good too. The staff were extremely polite and very attentive and the service very good and prompt. As I’m not able to tolerate spicy foods that well and my partner is very fond of hot and spicy foods Im delighted to have found a restaurant that serves such high quality foods with such a varied menu. Mahfil is definitely a favourite for me!

Went with friends who had been before but not for a while. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Food though, was , just underwhelming. We had three different curries between us and each of the sauces was just watery. The balti appeared to be all liquid, with little to no body to the sauce. I ordered the garlic chilli chicken which had 4 decent pieces of chicken. However, the chicken appeared to have been bought in, pre-cooked ( and probably frozen) and merely dropped into the hot (watery) sauce. This is a trend I have been seeing more frequently over the last few years. It might be convenient for the restaurant but just results in dry chicken breast meat. We won't be going back.

Tried to order food over the phone, after going through the order several times with the guy who was very rude when we ordered, we decided to cancel the order.Manners don’t cost anything, customer service is easy when you know how too talk to people.

Came for Sunday buffet! £14.95 a head! Absolutely delicious. So much choice! Starters were just divine but then I started on the mains. Really really good. Great selection and plenty for the veggies out there. Will be coming again ! Excellent food, service and fantastic food!

Everything about our dinner was outstanding. Friendly, attentive and efficient service. Samosa and onion Bhaji appetizers were excellent. Lamb balti was tender and delicious. Highly recommend.

Such a lovely experience this evening. Big family party of 16 with multiple children took over the upstairs lounge for a Birthday Party. Between us we had one pregnant lady, two breastfeeding mums (one of a 10 day old newborn) three toddlers and a further 3 under 10's. As you can imagine family gatherings are tricky but the staff were brilliant and could not have been more helpful and the food was extremely delicious. We had such a fab evening - thank you very much. Would definately highly recommend this restaurant 😀 From start to finish was just excellent.

One of the best Indian restaurants we have been to and we've been to many. It was a Saturday night and very busy but we were looked after very well. Nothing negative to say about The Mahfil.

What a fantastic indian restaurant .the food is always delicious. But most of all the welcoming and the staff go the extra mile making the experience even more enjoyable. Love the Mahfil. Fantastic food and plenty of choice. Always tasty and generous portions . Can't fault food or staff. Our favourites are Chicken 65 and Chicken wrap. Chicken Pathia and Lamb Rhezala! Excellent quality and very tasty. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Prior to my visit I was very sceptical after reading the reviews however they are wrong.Tables laid out beautifully with the authentic Indian shaped napkins.Poppadoms and sauces lovely and fresh.Family of 6 and all food came out hot with great presentation. My own dish the chicken tikka masala was perfect, not to creamy and not just red sauce, absolutely delicious.Would return again!

Mohib is by far my favourite bar tender! Very friendly and such an amazing personality.If you haven’t been to Mahfils and tried Mohibs shots I suggest you do!! Everybody needs Mo in their life!! Have been visiting for a few years now and always have a great time with great food. Would always take family and friends and they would love it too. Even if we had it as a takeaway, the service was fast, friendly and efficient. Unfortunately moving out of the area so we won’t be able to come here anymore, will really miss this place. Last visit and the pornstar martini was made to perfection! Highly recommend.

Me and my partner had booked a table for 7pm on Friday 26th November. Arrived and was told to wait, we waited for 15mins so I then asked a waiter how much longer as you don’t expect to have to wait to be seated when you book in advance. They then told a group of 3 men they had to leave so that we could have the table, this was before the poor men had even paid and weren’t able to finish their drinks. No apology was made for the wait. I asked three times for a jug of water before it was actually brought. The food was not that amazing, the starter I had was cold and bland. Also the portion sizes are small however, the mains were nice.Better places to enjoy a curry at a cheaper price. Most likely will not return.

This is the first time we've been here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Attentive waiters, cracking pint of cobra and the food was exceptional. We've eaten a lot of curries inbthe area and this is easily up there with the best of them.

Enjoyed a fabulous evening here with friends. The food was delicious and the service was excellent from upstairs in the cocktail lounge to downstairs in the restaurant. The fish starter was yummy. Lovely atmosphere created by all of the staff.

Was recently recommended Mahfil by a colleague and so we tried them for a takeaway earlier in the week. Having enjoyed the food, we decided to try the Sunday buffet today - and we’re very glad we did! Really reasonable price and the food was delicious. The waiter was very attentive and made sure we were kept stocked up with Naan bread and drinks, as well as ensuring any dishes on the buffet that were running low were replenished. Will definitely be back again for the buffet, and quite possibly an evening meal!

We stumbled across this restaurant as it was the first one that came up in Google search and we were hungry so had little to no expectations on a whim. HOWEVER we were pleasantly surprised! The decor, the vibe, and the foooddd and of course the service, I cannot fault them. Easily understand why it’s been classed as one of 7 of the BEST restaurants in Birmingham, this is honestly the truth, coming from London this is easily in my top 3 restaurants and I have visited and tried navy Indian cuisine restaurants. Don’t hesitate to spend your money here it’s great value all around. Two thumbs up from us.

I just wanted to write a quick review after going to Mahfil last night for a family birthday meal. We had a table of 9 and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and made us all laugh. We were even given a complimentary nightcap whilst we waited for our taxi which they arranged for us, which was a really nice touch. Will definitely be returning, thank you all so much.

It’s been a good 10 months since our last visit because of the lockdown, an absolute brilliant meal for my wife and myself. With friendly staff, reasonable prices and people back sitting in the restaurant makes it an enjoyable occasion.

Another excellent meal.Always reasonably priced.My husband wanted to try something different so had the white fish curry and said it was absolutely delicious. He will definitely have it again.Will be going back again in the very near future.I would highly recommend this local Indian restaurant.

Well lockdown lifted and first restaurant on our list to visit was the Mahfil . So nice to be back ! Bahar and his team are really welcoming and was nice to catch up. As always a fabulous meal.. our starters were presented beautifully.. I had the paneer wrap which was absolutely gorgeous. I chose the Persian biriyani for mains accompanied by garlic coriander Nan which was so nice. We all really enjoyed the food..to finish we were offered complimentary Baileys or Brandy.. If you are looking for a quality meal in a laid back atmosphere look no further than the Mahfil situated on the historic green in Kings Norton !

So second curry this year. Definitely a difference from previously. Not sure if change menu/chef. But up there with best curries locally. Whatever your doing now keep doing. Fantastic

I stopped ordering takeaway Indian food for a while as i never really found one I loved until I tried Mahfil! I’ve eaten in a couple of times and it’s absolutely lovely but I had a takeaway over the weekend and I was so impressed. We ate every last bit of it! Well done guys, cant wait to visit when lockdown is over!

Just AWESOME ! Consistently high quality takeaway food This dish is one of my favourites and ALWAYS tickles my tastebuds ! If you like lemon & big juicy king prawns with a slight kick then try it ..you won’t be disappointed

Due to lockdown I picked up a meal for both me and my wife.I have to say this was the best takeaway food I have ever had.People say that currys don't travel.Well tonight was a different league.The food was as good as an eat in, so if you have not tried the Mahfil I suggest you give it a try .Fantastic keep it up Mahfil team ...Mark

We eat out a lot and I always praise certain places, always seems to be a curry house at the moment. But there is another place you have to try, Mahfil and in particular the Lamb Chops that comes with Mint rice. One of the best dishes I have ever had, 5 melt the mouth chops with a accompanying sauce, need to go again, don’t give me a menu, I know what I’m having. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

I want to try everything on Mahfil's menu! The starters we ordered were creative in flavour and beautifully presented, and the lamb passanda was without doubt the best I've ever had. Excellent table service in very pleasant surroundings. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We'll definitely be back.

NO UTILICE.Hemos pedido a Mahfil antes, y es buena comida. pero TENGA EN CUENTA.Desafortunadamente, esta vez faltaba uno de los pedidos principales (un costoso plato de cordero) y uno de los entrantes. Llamé al restaurante directamente unos 2 minutos después de que llegó el pedido y básicamente me dijeron que no quedaba comida en la cocina, ¡así que debo estar "equivocado"! !¡No podía creer que básicamente me llamaran mentiroso! Me ofrecieron un reembolso, pero se negaron a enviar los platos que había pedido.Servicio horrible y no volveré a usar este restaurante. Una verdadera lástima ya que la mitad de la comida que llegó fue agradable. Esta revisión se publica en tantos lugares locales como sea posible para advertir a los demás.

Totalmente en desacuerdo con una crítica anterior que decía que este restaurante no cumplía las reglas. Nuestra visita el sábado 12 de septiembre de 2020 nos hizo sentir muy seguros, todo el personal estaba enmascarado y todas las precauciones se tomaron correctamente dentro del restaurante. Mi esposa y yo disfrutamos del servicio amable y de la comida y la bebida excelentemente preparadas y, obviamente, por lo que escuchamos en el restaurante, muchas personas eran visitantes habituales. Hay un menú extenso con algunos platos diferentes de los restaurantes indios promedio y todo lo que pedimos estaba delicioso y claramente recién cocinado. Definitivamente vamos a estar de vuelta.

Booked last minute for a birthday meal, staff were all super friendly and service was fantastic. Food was incredible everyone was happy! Accommodated for my oversized balloons, and even brought me a lil desert with a candle. 100% be going back soon.

Visitamos el viernes pasado con la familia. El primer obstáculo fue correr el guante de clientes de comida para llevar (sin máscaras) bloqueando las puertas y parados en el área del bar muy pequeña. La escena fue un caos total sin nadie aparentemente a cargo y el personal muy rebelde. No pudieron encontrar nuestra reserva, a pesar de que había reservado con mucha antelación, por lo que nos enviaron arriba para esperar. . . y espera. . . . . Después de 30 minutos nos fuimos y nadie pareció darse cuenta o importarle. El único asentimiento que pude ver a la pandemia actual fueron las pantallas en el bar, nada más, sin desinfectante, sin máscaras usadas por el personal y absolutamente ningún distanciamiento social. Me sentí aliviado de estar fuera de allí. Si hubo un brote en el área, Public Health England no necesita buscar más allá de este lugar. Todavía nos estamos pellizcando para asegurarnos de que esto realmente sucedió. Vaya allí bajo su propio riesgo porque este restaurante no tiene absolutamente ningún conocimiento sobre el control de infecciones y está más interesado en empaquetarlos que en la seguridad del personal o del cliente.

Another birthday meal at the marvelous Mahfil! Absolutely fantastic food as usual. Social distancing no problem. Waiters wearing masks, tables set at correct distance and hand sanitizer freely available. Well done to management for following guidelines.

We have been eating at Mahfils for a long time. We have been going recently since opening up after lockdown. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and efficient. I see someone complained about sitting next to friends with no social distancing. Surely if you book a table for six you'd expect to sit next to each other, otherwise book three tables! Doesn't make sense. We've had no problems there regarding covid 19. Waiters wore masks and our details were taken as track and trace! Can't wait for our next visit.

We visit this restaurant a few times a year and as always last nights meal was as great as ever. All the staff had masks, tables were spread out and we witnessed things being cleaned thoroughly between customers. I felt really safe, well looked after but still able to relax. The food is Exceptional value. As a vege the choice is great, every dish fresh and flavour-full. I cannot recommend it enough.

Having missed my curry night during lockdown , we decided to have a family takeaway, although not the same as eating in, everything was lovely hot and tasty. When dining was permitted again when didnt hesitate at the chance to dine in. Again we were not disappointed, hand sanitizer available at the door, waiting staff wearing masks and tables arranged ,to keep safe as possible. Tables were sanitize after each use .The staff and the food were excellent as usual, and we will have rebooked again. dined with you on tuesday 25th.july. The restuarant was reasonably busy and the takeout/deliveries were a regular occurance but our food was served in a reasonably time and well presented.Well done all, see you soon.

I go to the Mahfli every couple of months with friends and we are always made welcome with great service and fab food. I recently went for the first time since social distancing was introduced and wondered how it would work. The tables were all at acceptable distances with the serving staff taking care to keep their distance too. As usual a fab evening.

Fabulous restaurant that we regularly use. Great food as always and staff always helpful and attentive. Relatively small restaurant but you can see that an effort has been made to comply with social distancing requirements. Felt comfortable with proximity of other guests. Will continue to use as our go to restaurant.

A party of six went for a COVID friendly meal,which it was not.Social distancing was a joke.I sat shoulder to shoulder with another member that,I do not live with.Tables we’re right up against each other,with people squeezing past on way to toilets.Masks were on for the first hour then worn round neck.Takeaway clients were squeezing through the door,wit other patrons trying to get out.If this had not been a birthday party I would have left straight away.I am just hoping I don’t go down with COVID in next few days.

We are regulars at Mahfil so are delighted they’re doing takeaways during lockdown. Delicious food and great service as usual. Thanks Mahfil, looking forward to dining in when we can.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Kings Norton. Amazing food, dishes to suit every taste, amazing cocktails, fantastic, attentive staff and really lovely decor! The manager and all his staff are very attentive, professional and friendly, the staff will get the chef to do whatever you want to eat. Very reasonably priced and well worth every morsel!!!

Love eating in this restaurant, but have never had a takeaway.Reading one of the reviews on the takeaway service we decided to try it. We were not dissappointed, everything we ordered arrived tasty and hot. Keep safe all at Mahfil, see you soon.

Enjoyed a delicious sharing platter followed by dish of chicken adah beautifully balanced flavours. My sister has allergy to peppers and the staff went to lengths to ensure her dish was clear of anything that might’ve affected her.

This restaurant is the best in Kings Norton, the food is so nice and just enough. The staff are brilliant and the manager is excellent. Can not fault this place at all. The meals are good for the price.

Just wanted to thank The Manager (think he said his name was Baaba) and his team for another great night with top quality food and excellent service. We had the private dining glass booth which was perfect for all the ladies in my family to have a good catch up. This is the third time I’ve been to Mahfil in recent months and the food has always been lovely quality at a very reasonable price. Thanks again all for a great night and for the bottle of wine!
