Maharajah in Braintree

Order placed online around 6.20, arrived cold about 9pm. No one at restaurant answered phone that evening or since and will not respond to emails requesting refund. We have noticed the last couple of times that the food has gone downhill, this is the last straw - have spent thousands here in the past, often ordering takeaways for large parties, but not any more….

Food is good and tasty, must visit if looking for a good indian food items. Prices are not too high and seems reasonable.

We've been using the Maharaja for a long time. The food has always been immaculate and delivered in a substantial wrapped box so it was always very hot. They were also generous with portions. Tonight we've had small portions of stone cold, oily, grease encrusted rubbish delivered in a plastic bag. I have phoned the restaurant to be told that it's changed hands as well as the Chef. What a surprise! That's the last order we'll be placing until it changes ownership again.

This takeaway did used to be pretty good but has got progressively worse over our last three orders. Last nights offering was barely lukewarm on arrival, 45 minutes later than stated (over 2 hour wait). The food was pretty shocking, prawns and meat over cooked, flavourless tandoori, jalfrezi with no flavour and a ridiculous amount of heat, awful nans, stuffed purata with no fillings - I could go on. All I can think is this place must have changed hands as although we have had the occasional average meal over many years of custom, nothing has been quite as consistently bad as recent offerings. Sorry to say but we will no longer be ordering from them.

Food was very nice, great portions and prices OK; all wrapped really well so did come pretty warm to the house, and the online ordering service great. Online ordering also gave 20% off main dishes Only grumble would be standard website saying delivery would be 40-60, and only stating it would be estimated at 80 minutes after order was confirmed and paid. But it was a peak Saturday evening we we should have planned better

We have been using Maharaja for 3 years now and it has always been a very tasty meal for a very good value. We always order the set meal for two, you get lots of food and it's all so yum! We have recommended many people to this Indian and every single one of them have always been very happy with the food and service. We moved just under a year ago but still continue to use them as they are by far the best Indian takeaway we have found!

Had a lovely set meal for 2 from here great price as well,£23.50. if you ordered separately would come to £41.50. Will be ordering again.

My partner and I ordered a takeaway from the shop (set meal for 2 total price £24.95) This was clearly shown on the menu. When paying for the meal I was told “that’s £24.95” I questioned their deal of 15% off on their flier for collection and was told “sorry mate that doesn’t apply for set meals” I reiterate no where in your advertisement does it suggest this? His response was, “yeh that was for our 10th anniversary last year” I made it clear as a company you shouldn’t be advertising something you are not willing to commit too and especially a promotion. Furthermore you must retract these menus as this is false advertisement. I received a smirk.... Shame the Indian we have used for the last 5 years have turned out this way, won’t be using again

Absolute best Indian takeaway. We recently moved further away and still always order from here because nothing beats it. Best value for money, best tasting Indian and great service.

I live in Colchester and wild love a Maharaja branch closer than Braintree. The food is amazing and I can’t find anything like it in Colchester!

This was our fave indian takeaway in the area, we used to order online but now they have added a £1 delivery fee despite advertising free delivery. I wouldn't normally moan about it but it's false advertisement. The food is nice the majority of the time however we ordered for daughters birthday (this was in march) and onion bajis were raw and mint sauce tasted like plastic. When we called up we never even got an apology let alone an offer to replace anything. We understand that that was a one off but thought it worth mentioning. We used this one again in august and it was much better than the time before, and I would have given more stars had the delivery fee not been added. Delivery is always fast, the drivers are always polite and we do genuinely think that it is one of the nicer Indian takeaways in the town.

Use to be our regular Indian, recently the quality of food has changed not as it use to be. The chicken is dry and tough bland taste. The menu price is also sky high comparing to other competitors in town.there is far better Indians in Town. Time scale was given 45min received our delivery after 1 hour 20 min. We shall give it a miss for a while.

Waste of money ordered a takeaway tonight saggy popadoms and my chicken Jalfrezi was mild and no favours at all. Chicken strips was like rubber. We ordered papadoms which was saggy. My husband ordered a mushroom rice which was paid for and not in the box. This happens every time you order from this Indian. We shall never return again.

It's been a long while since our family have enjoyed an Indian Takeaway as much as we just have. The right mix of flavour and hot spices. I thoroughly recommend this takeaway.

Having ordered from Maharaja as I always do when I want an Indian in Braintree I expected the usual good service. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I had a text almost immediately saying my order was on route which I found surprising. An hour later I had heard nothing so called up to be told they tried calling and delivering with no luck. I have no missed calls and no one buzzed the flat. When I called to check the guy said they tried them passed me to the driver who said the same. I said that wasn’t good enough I don’t want the order and please pass me back to the other guy only to be hung up on. Mistakes happen but lying and poor customer service isn’t acceptable. After saying I didn’t want the order I had a guy try to deliver 5 minutes later.

Cost nearly 40quid and was over 40mims late, food was cold and popperdoms were stale. Usually like this take away but totally put off as we didn't get any apologies when we rang. Won't be using again

Had two take away meals from here and have to say the food is delicious. Good sized portions and cooked with quality produce. Would not hesitate in recommending. Will definitely return.

Catch up with friends on a night out came for a curry first the chicken balti was brilliant absoloutly huge portion which I could t finish the waiter was efficient and took good care of us

Wary of trying a new Indian takeaway after eating from the same restaurant for over 10 years. We ordered a takeaway for collection and WOW after we tried the food we could only imagine we just got lucky but after 6 or 7 more meals delivered since the quality is always high. The delivery is quick and well wrapped to make sure the food arrives in great condition. Love it.

Food was over 30 minutes late, 1 item of rice missing and although hot was not piping hot as brought in cardboard box which was not heat proof. Rang after 15 minutes to be told it would be there soon and still took another 20 minutes. Will not be using again.

We had a bit of a wait for the food but it was a saturday night so it was expected...but boy was it worth waiting for. It was by far the tastiest indian we had both ever had. I love the way the food is packaged..it was still lovely and hot when it was received. They had popped a couple of gorgeous samosas into our order as well as poppadoms. Can't rait this restaurant highly enough.

Our take away was "out for delivery", waited 20 minutes, called them up to be told it hadn't been done yet... and hung up on. Then waited a further 25 mins and called back to be told it had only just gone out. Took 2 hours from ordering to getting food. Not happy.

Every time we order from here using Just Eat, our food comes quickly, it’s always hot and not oily at allTheir Lamb Bhuna is delicious and I love the Bombay potatoesI think the Set Meal for 2 that costs £22.25 is very good value for money I find the food standard very high and for this reason it is our favourite Indian! The best Indian I have had on just eat - really good food... we do live in the sticks and had cooled a bit but even with that was top drawer!

This is the 1st time we have ordered from Maharaja, and due to the service we will not be doing so again. We placed our order via Just Eat website at 6.30pm to be delivered at 7.10pm. We received a text from Just Eat at 7.15pm saying the food had just left the restaurant. At 7.45pm it still had not arrived, even though we live no more than a 3 or 4 minute drive away. I called the restaurant and was told it'd be another 10 to 15 minutes! It arrived at 7.55pm, according to the guy at Just Eat, the restaurant had been busy. Upon opening the food it was now warm, not hot. Also, we had ordered 1 mushroom rice and 1 pilau rice only to receive 2 mushroom rices. We didn't bother trying to send the food back and having it redelivered as we were now getting hungry having waited 90 minutes for dinner. The food itself tasted good, but the service (length of waiting time, wrong items, and warm not hot food) means we will not be going back for future orders.

My wife and I just love every meal we’ve had from here, and we’ve tried many different meals. the food is just perfect. we are always surprised at how quickly they get our order ready. it’s never been more than 15/20 min. The food quality is perfect, the portion sizes leave you needing to loosen your belt. we will never order from another Indian restaurant again.

I ordered from here for the first time tonight. The service was brilliant but I didnt enjoy the curry. I ordered lamb rogan josh with pilau rice and garlic naan. The naan and rice was perfect but the curry wasnt. It was very tomatoey and didnt taste like a normal rogan josh I would normally get! The lamb was also very tough and fatty and hard to chew. Im sure I just ordered wrong but that was my review of the curry!

Sadly the chicken in the tikka masala was very dry. Never had that from this restaurant which is a shame

lovely food great portion sizes. food delivered over 20 minutes late and when I rung up to find out where it was person didn’t particularly sound sorry for the lateness. Also paid for a particular dip (only one I liked) and didn’t arrive with food 2x different ones instead which I couldn’t eat. But after waiting over an hour for food didn’t want to call and wait just for a dip. Normally better service.

In the desert of the wintery December hunger struck. The abode at which I was staying longed for the sensual aromas of a vivified curry. The verbose growls of empty stomachs led us to the Maharaja like the star of Bethlehem. And verily, it was an excellent decision. The luscious chicken tikka masala complemented the perfectly cooked rice that made our mouths water and quiver with delight. The succulent naan made our communion to the Gods of food. Overall it was a joyous evening and I would 10/10 recommend.

Ordered over £65 worth of food.. and it was all shocking! No flavour to the curries! The prawns were like chewing the soul of my shoe! The chicken was more dry than Ghandi’s flip flop! Absolutely awful! Will not be ordering from here again!!!!
