I am absolutely gutted that this place has closed. It was my go-to curry house for a sit down meal. Many, many thanks and my very best wishes for the future must go to Somok Ali.

A great old skool Indian Restaurant. Quite small but with all the usual favourites on offer with a friendly service and all at a very reasonable price.

Went to this restaurant with friends, realised toilets were up 13 stairs. No good for me as I am in a wheelchair, however when I asked the waiter where I could go he couldn’t have been less interested Just shrugged as if to say tough luck Food was good but not impressed with attitude Do not go if you have any mobility issues as you will not get any sympathy or understanding here

Cheap and tasty food. Simla is naff in comparison. Bit tired decor but food makes up for it. Cheapest pint of lager in town too. Keep it up!

My partner and I visited this restaurant for an evening meal and were really pleased with the food quality food and the great value prices. I chose the Vegetarian Thali which is fantastic for £9 as it included biryani rice and two veg dishes and an onion bhaji. The bhaji was particularly delicious and very crispy. The service was quick but at times it was a bit awkward was the restaurant was very quiet and it felt like we were interrupting the three servers as they chatted between them. Not sure why the restaurant was so quiet - we will definitely go back when we’re next in Blandford.

There are better curries to be had in Blandford, They get your curry ready nice and quickly, but almost too quickly, sources a little watery and the prawns are not the biggest - not bad, but a long way from the best.

Went with my husband. We love a good curry and this did not disappoint. Great poppadoms, starters, main and egg fried fried. Very pleased all round.

Serving a large group is always challenging but they seemed up to the task: crisp popadoms a great selection of starters and a perfectly hot curry with the usual rices and vegetables all served with a smile. As always we ordered too much but more than happy to let us take away the balance of the food. So a great place to visit

Nice little restaurant in the centre of town. We went early evening so it was very quiet. Good service, not pretentious. Menu varied and good for vegetarians. Pickles were good and large portions. Not expensive

Decided to try a takeaway from here as a change to Simla, boy was that a mistake! I know Wednesday evenings in Blandford aren't necessarily noted for their liveliness but on entering to collect said meal, was surprised - poor quality decor, quite a small dining area and no patrons whatsoever. Be very aware of this if you are considering eating in. Handed over my debit card to pay (it was around £14), the gentleman serving me took a cursory glance at it and mumbled it would now be £17??? There is no mention of any handling fees for a debit card displayed anywhere. When I challenged this, he just shrugged his shoulders, pointed at the card machine and again mumbled something unintelligible. In a slight huff, I said I would nip down to the cashpoint and would be back in 5 mins - a pain ITA but it's the principle of it. Anyway, the food was quite bland and nondescript although edible, hence the 2 stars. My advice is avoid this dive and stick with the Simla where quality is more consistent and ambience exists.

Looking for a truly vegan option is a tough call in Blandford but popping into the Maharaja on the off chance and having our needs catered for was absolutely perfect. A Thali with some Bombay Aloo and Chana Dhal on the side were delicious, poppadoms and chutneys to start of course! It was a bit quiet (which is to be expected on a Monday lunch time in this town) but the service was excellent! Would recommend dropping in here for a good choice of dishes at a great price, we even took some home with us! We'll be back there for sure!

We visited here for our anniversary dinner, food was really nice very filling. We was the only people in we arrived just after 7pm and left after 8,30 :-) we dragged it out as we very rarely have a baby sitter! Staff was very helpful and efficient, I found the music a bit loud. I would go again, they do take away too :-)

My partner and I were planning a much need and overdue date night, so decided to go somewhere we had never been to before.. We were glad that we chose Maharaja. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was first class, with some added special little touches.I can't wait until we have the chance to go again.

This is our standard takeaway when in town. Staff are always nice and the food is hot and tasty. Prices are standard for a takeaway and food is always quite quick.

Delicious food, with attentive service. We went in before 7pm on a Thursday, so aside from us, it was empty, therefore I can't vouch for service at busier times. The staff were lovely with kids. Good variety on menu too.

We visited here on a Saturday evening and had a reservation for 7.30. We chose a small table tucked away but as we realised after a while, you can't really tuck yourself away from lively groups as the restaurant is very small. If you're looking for small and intimate, then this may not be for you, unless you book very early. The menu is very good and we were not hurried at all ( and we really did take our time with poppadums and choosing)Portions are very generous and the food tasty.

Thought I would try this restaurant for a take away rather than my usual place and was not disappointed. The food was ready almost to the minute I ordered it to be (restaurant was empty so maybe it's not always ready on time but it was that evening) and when I got home it was still nice and hot and tasted so good, it was a really good curry. Can't comment on restaurant service/atmosphere as only using the take away facilities.

Having tried other similar restaurants in the area, the Maharaja in Blandford is, by far, the best - it's the only one we regularly visit and have never been disappointed. Although we usually go for a take-way, the restaurant has a nice ambience and is small enough to be cosy without being too packed in and still has plenty of room between tables. The prices are reasonable, service is good and the staff are friendly and professional. We highly recommend this restaurant and in particular, the Chicken Tikka Naga & the Chicken Dhansak - absolutely delicious!

I came for an evening meal with my sister, the main course was very nice and the service was good to. For dessert I had a lemon sorbet, which was stuffed in an actual lemon- very sour!!! Won't be having again! We were the only ones in the restaurant and it was quite awkward as the staff kept watching us as we ate. Good value for money, but don't think I'll be coming back.

Decent curries in a wide variety of flavours. The staff were welcoming and on the ball. Good size portions of freshly cooked food, including unusual duck options not often seen on the menu. The value was good with £20 a head for six with drinks and tip. Takeaway option too, which I have been told is also very good.

This restaurant is small but so friendly. No hassle if you want to sit and relax over a meal. Staff are attentive but not pushy. Oh yes, the food? Very good and especially the Biryani's all served with vegetable curry. The prices are so reasonable that we can afford to go often. Better than a takeaway although they do them but it is nice to have a sit down meal in a cosy atmosphere.

Incredibly reasonably priced, quick delivery, always hot and fresh. Whenever we have guest visit and get a curry they are always blown away by quality and can’t believe the price! We’ve lived in 9 different city’s and towns and this is by far the best Indian takeaway.
