Maggs Thai Restaurant @ The Long Man in Brighton and Hove

Sunday lunch & drinks, all staff friendly and welcoming, wearing masks and keeping distance. Food was delicious and kitchen staff serving were humorous and fun and relaxed. Beer kept well and served in clean glasses. Worth the time, money and will be back.

We went there tonight for.a £5 substantial meal stew. We weren’t expecting the world but what we were presented with was a complete joke. About 4 spoonful loads of some tasteless ‘stew’:..I say spoonfuls but we were actually given forks so couldn’t even eat it properly! Come away feeling totally ripped of and disappointed which is a shame as they have gone to a lot of effort to make the outside area really nice.

We purposely booked here as they had outdoor seating and we wanted to meet grandparents.we booked two tables outside and drove over 1.5 hrs as not many places offering outdoor seating with heat at present. When we arrived they had put us inside the pub and when questioned said oh well there is no more room Outside now ! We had no other option as no other pubs in the area we could go to and we all felt awkward as now we had been put in breach of COVID rules by them! ...... food was ok but not suitable for kids. Ordered chips for them but no vinegar so very dry and they didn’t eat them. Service for extra drinks was very slow. The tea I had came in a tea pot that I dont think had ever seen a washer, Won’t be rushing back that’s for sure

Great food, great service. Visited today with family. Great roast, portion size was good, meat selection was great and potatoes were delish!

Went here last week and was not sure regarding the pubs food due to it being an established regulars pub with sports on screens ( all on silent) and a little worn interiors. The landlord was a grafter, on the ball ans friendly and the food was authentic. Not only was it a lovely , relaxed experience but the food was so good we are popping back this week. The food was also half price for that day so was a double thumbs up as we would of paid full price no questions.

I visited this pub on a trip to Brighton with friends who live locally and have been before. A very old-fashioned pub but a good choice of drinks although it was surprisingly expensive for a suburban pub.

Tasty Thai take-away The Thai food at The Longman is excellent, we ordered early evening and it was ready in about 15 minutes. Delicious and good-value.

Basically this pub was my local.for years, love dave who owns the range, loved kenny as the last manager but the new guy just has short man sybdrome, all the staff have left, hes so unwelcoming it has ruined the pub so now because the new oak and ladies mile dont cut the mustard I spend all ny money in town, because of the worse manager ever

Great local, traditional pub. People and staff friendly. Outside, nice garden space available. Serves Thai food weekdays and roasts on Sundays. I’ve had both types of food and both were great. Especially the roasts. Booking ahead on Sundays is recommended.

Hemos comido y bebido en el Wilmy durante años y nunca he escrito una reseña, por lo que es hora de que la gente sepa sobre este pequeño pub en Patcham que sirve una pinta fabulosa o un G&T fresco y afrutado, un sabroso asado de domingo y Una excelente comida tailandesa de Kengs Thai Kitchen. Llegamos el viernes y estaba abarrotada, no reservamos una mesa (¡error!), Pero encontramos un par de mesas reservadas para las 8 pm, así que fue alrededor de las 6:45 y el barman dijo que estaba bien siempre y cuando dejamos vacantes a las 8 pm, genial! En un tranquilo martes fuimos al pub recién reformado para un almuerzo tailandés. Nos encantaron las cómodas sillas. La comida fue excelente como siempre y la relación calidad-precio es siempre excepcional. A menudo nos reunimos en familia por la noche, ya que puede darse el lujo de tomar su turno y tratar a todos. Los precios son muy razonables. ¡Y nunca tienes el dilema de qué hacer para el postre, ya que no lo hacen! !

Estaba celebrando mi 50 cumpleaños con un grupo de 14, con mucha antelación. Mientras que la mayoría de la gente disfrutaba de su comida, yo tenía el Veggie Wellington y estaba muy decepcionada ya que la pasta era plana y empapada como si hubiera sido hecha en el microondas. El servicio fue muy lento, esperamos 40 minutos y llegó la mitad de la comida y luego otros 30 minutos para la carne de vacuno y una barriga de cerdo. Nadie vino a preguntar si todo estaba bien. Nos lo pasamos muy bien y tuvimos el círculo final para nosotros, lo cual fue agradable, pero el pub no parecía muy ocupado para justificar el servicio lento. No tuve tiempo para los postres.

Took my family out for a roast today and collectively we couldn't fault any part of it. I gave my compliments to the chef and would happily recommend trying them out to anyone. Regards Richard

Had a brilliant Sunday roast here today, reasonably priced and massive portions meant you're sure to be full afterwards. I had the roast belly of pork which was delicious and tender with lovely crunchy crackling, fresh and perfectly cooked veg and huge yorkshire puds with lots of gravy - perfect! Relaxed atmosphere, staff were accomodating and friendly, would definitely recommend.

Wow really great place to grab some lunch - amazing authentic Thai food. Great value lunch time menu.

Really good authentic Thai food and very reasonably priced. I recommend the king prawn massaman curry, it was so tasty. We will definitely visit again.

This is such a great local pub which has fab thai food monday to saturday and tisbury roasts on sunday which for me are the best in brighton keep up the great work.

The Thai Kitchen with this pub was recommended by a friend. The pub it's self a large, spacious pub with a lovely vibe. We went on Monday evening around 8pm the pub was fairly quiet. Staff were very helpful and recommend food from the menu that they had tried. The good came quickly, big portions, amazing smells and tastes! Would definitely return and would recommend to others. Food was fairy priced also.

I was almost knocked to the floor with shock at the price for a pint of diet coke, Standing at a gigantic £3.35.

What’s happened? This has gone from being my favourite roast to a luke warm, soggy disaster?! Has something changed? It happened once, went back to check it out. Same again. Soggy yorkie and roast potatoes which I am sure saw the inside of a microwave. We also waited an hour for food. The meat didn’t seem the same either.

He estado en el Longman muchas veces, principalmente por la cocina tailandesa, que es excelente y no es caro. Dos de mis hijos que han ido a Tailandia calculo es bastante auténtica.

Por el precio es un Tailandés, sabroso y buenas porciones de tamaño. Siempre es difícil conseguir esa auténtica cocina tailandesa, especialmente para aquellos que han pasado tiempo en Tailandia, pero esta cocina tiene clavado.

Esta visita fue dar el pub una segunda oportunidad ya habíamos tenido una mala experiencia en nuestra primera visita. La comida era muy sabrosa y caliente - carne asada era tierna y una buena mezcla de verduras. El servicio ha mejorado como ahora hay servicio de mesa. La persona que nos atendió fue encantador y informarnos allí sería una espera de unos 30 minutos para la comida, que estaba bien. No importa esperar mientras nos dicen. El único inconveniente era que habíamos reservado para 3 y nos dijeron cuando nos presentamos que habíamos reservado para 2 - él era bastante insistente, pero afortunadamente tenía un correo electrónico de confirmación, me sentí como que podría haber tenido un problema lo contrario ya que estaban muy ocupados. Después se ofrece una mesa de la puerta en una corriente fría o una mesa en una habitación oscura poco a la mesa de billar, finalmente nos dieron una mesa decente. El día se salvó por la comida y la persona que tomó nuestra orden.

Que son clientes habituales en el concurso de los martes por la noche y a menudo tienen comida tailandesa que la oferta de cocina kengs pub y siempre es genial. Recién cocinado. Última comida noches era superior en su nivel de buena por lo general. Wilmy ordenados wonder, no demasiado picante y fue de lo mejor que he plato probado. Nivel de especias, probado perfecto perfecto y el personal es encantador! Cubiertas la noche bien gracias;)

Si quieres un buen asado el domingo debe visitar el Wilmy (como lo conocemos! ). Suerte que es nuestro local, a menudo con el que deleitarse de cerdo asado. Hicimos ayer y fue uno de los mejores asados que hemos disfrutado. Maravilloso chispeante, sabroso, tierno liberar en su boca, con cerdo crujientes por fuera, suaves por dentro y muy buena salsa roasties (siempre te extra en una jarra). Yo preferiría más queso coliflor en vez de tener la kale/remolacha y repollo para ser cocinados un poco más pero estos fallitos realmente. Tuvimos que esperar una hora para nuestra comida, que sin previo aviso ha ocurrido antes. No importa ya que la comida estaba buena, pero sería mucho mejor que estar advertido de la espera. Hemos reservado para 3. 00 para evitar que los seguidores de brighton fútbol pero aún estaban muy ocupados. Libro para evitar decepciones!

Nosotros habíamos estado prometiendo un asado para las edades como aquí se veía genial cada vez que habíamos ido para una bebida. Habíamos reservado una mesa, ya sabíamos que estaban siempre ocupados en los domingos. Pedimos nuestras comidas y bebidas y nos fuimos a nuestra mesa. Después de una hora y 45 minutos nuestra comida llegó finalmente. No nos habían dicho cuando pedir o esperar durante nuestra que ocuparía mucho tiempo. Cuando preguntamos la razón nos dijeron que eran un horno y un cocinero. No podrian haber dicho cuando pedimos? Podrian haber al menos pidió disculpas? Comimos la comida que estaba tibio, no caliente, pero en ese momento estábamos muy hambrientos, no nos importaba. Cuando los platos fueron recogidos nos dijeron que el miembro del personal y finalmente conseguí una disculpa y una oferta de una bebida o un gofre. Es una pena, ya que incluso tibia la comida era muy agradable. Si el personal hubiera sido proactiva en aviso de retrasos y ofrecieron una disculpa antes nos habría dado una segunda oportunidad como todos sabemos estas cosas pasan. Como es que no puedo ver nosotros volveremos.

To put it simply, I've been going there for years and never been let down. Their food is reasonably priced and is authentic Thai, which is quite interesting to eat in a traditional pub setting.

Mi pareja y yo disfrute explorando nuevos lugares para comer alrededor de Brighton (demasiada variedad), y los domingos nos gusta ver que no encontrar nuevas pubs un buen asado. Él había sido dijo que la Longman por unos pocos amigos y así que decidimos ir....

I took my family out for dinner to discus my fathers poor health. We booked a table and arrived promptly. I ordered the food from a bar made called Sadie, I paid for the food and bought a round of drinks for my children. After an hour and 2 more rounds of drinks I asked Sadie where our food was. She was so rude and unprofessional, she snapped at me saying that she had warned me about delays (not true) she blamed her manager and the kitchen staff, then said aggressively "you can have your money back!". I asked to speak to someone in charge who could help with the problem, she pointed at Paul Day and said "ask him". Paul was really nice and resolved the problem quickly, I was particularly appalled by Sadie's personality transformation as she 'sucked up' to him and blamed everyone around her but took no responsibility for her part in the delay (or notification of a delay). The food arrived and as usual it was perfect. Sadly I haven't returned to the Longman because I refuse to be served by that woman. Which is a real shame because we always loved it there and the Thai food and Sunday roasts are amazing.Thank god for the Ladies Mile where all the staff smile and they treat you like an old friend ❤️❤️❤️

Very good quality roasts with enormous yorkie, crispy roasties and wonderful gravy. The best roast meat has to be the slow cooked belly of pork - crackling that does, and the most melt in the mouth, tasty pork. My 97 year old Dad is a staunch beef man, but, having tried a taster of my pork meal has vowed that the next visit he will be changing his order. Everyone who serves us is cheerful, friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble. Highly recommended.

First visit and loved it. Wonderful, plentiful Thai food. Great choices, great value. will definitely re visit just wish we lived nearer.

We eat here often and frequently get take away. Gorgeous food. Never been disappointed and very good value. Our works well for groups.

Asked to leave at 8pm as had a child there we spent a fortune on food and was asked to leave will never go there again , I would never have booked my birthday there if I had known we had to leave by 8pm

My favourite local pub - lovely atmosphere, cheap drinks and delicious Thai food served from Monday to Saturday and excellent roasts on Sunday.Keep an eye on their upcoming events like disco nights, dos etc as it gets very busy! Would recommend booking tables for lunch or dinner.

The Thai food is served Tue-Sat is a little to sugary for my liking, but we are around the corner and it is convenient. The Staff are very nice and efficient. The Sunday Roast is excellent and is highly recommended.

First visit to The Long Man for many years and it hasn't change much. Still an enormous pool table dominating the public bar, but nice friendly atmosphere. Family lunch was two Lamb roasts and two Pork roasts, very good with plenty of vegetable and excellent gravy.Only downside which is not the pub staff or managers fault is that dog owners should keep control of their animals rather than let them roam freely, specially when you are eating - take a note management !!

I love going back to the Wilmington so many great memories but sadly the great days have long gone when it was personally run by Dave and Annette Day who still own it the food was just ok all apart from the Drunken noodle the chilli just burnt with the slightest contact with my mouth not allowing any other flavour that may have been present to come through and when explained to the waitress she just screamed you not like you not had this before and walked off and yes I’ve eaten it before and Mr Day you should do one of your legendary inspections dried food in the corners on the floor and dusty cobwebs on the windows (photos)

One of the best roasts in Brighton and amazing Thai food Mon-Sat. staff are always friendly. Lovely local pub with an authentic traditional feel to it. Dog friendly.

This is one of the best puds around, we have tried many pubs for a Sunday roast but can't find one as good as the Long man.It's a must try, I'd recommend booking as it can get very full, the landlord and staff are berry welcoming, will always to that extra mile to make you feel good. My recommendation is give it a go you will not be disappointed.

This is one of our favourite pubs. However today they really shone. We normally come to the The Longman for a roast dinner as the food is great, portions are huge and the price is reasonable. They always serve until quite late, without having to wait for a table or wait too long for the food to arrive.Today we decided we rang ahead (unusually) the lady said they were serving but couldn't take advance orders as they were that busy. When I explained my husband was in crutches and just wanted to know if there would be a table available when we turned up (not expecting to reserve a table) , immediately the lady said no problem and took our name. When we got there surely a table was reserved. Thank you not only for the great food but for the outstanding service despite being so busy. We'll be back again and again. This is for sure a great pub

Introduced to this little gem by our good friends Kevin and Shelley, this place is a must visit when in the Brighton area. A very popular pub with the locals and tourists alike. The great selection of drinks, served with a smile and a Thai in-house kitchen. The food is fresh and tasty and at a very affordable price. No leave to go anywhere else, this is a one stop eat and drink pub, we will be back.

The food is pretty good, though somewhat pricey and it's a nice enough pub. However my 'large' glass of wine was about a centimetre and a half short of the 250 ml mark.

Found it in a website with reviews of Sunday Roasts, 9.5 out of 10 it said. We wanted to try a good Sunday Roast, so it made sense to go and try!Booked a table, it's worth as they don't have more than 10 tables and people book them (they serve the roast until 6 though).The venue is a bit far from the centre, but you can park anywhere around.We tried the English beef and the pork with apple sauce. They were really good, decent amount and both meats were very well cooked. Some veggies were included too!Dessert, brownie. Juicy and very tasty, not dry at all.Definitely worth a try.P.S. We have to come back to try the Thai menu as it's also Thai restaurant Monday to Saturday.

The first visit was for my fathers wake, they kindly set aside a quite area of the saloon bar for our guests and we arranged food with them. The food they supplied was excellent, finger rolls with a variety of fresh fillings along with a couple of hot choices (sausage rolls and spicy chick strips). It made for a good atmosphere to chat about my father and times gone by. The second trip myself and my wife had been attending to my fathers house and noticing on our previous visit that they served Thai food we dropped in for lunch. The barmaid was very pleasant and took our order and in no time at all our food was served and I have to say it was fresh and tasty much better than a stand alone Thai restaurant food. Excellent especially with the small kitchen they have at the pub.

Looking for somewhere for a last minute roast on Sunday - booked here off the back of the reviews. Excellent food, good services in and overlooked Pub. Good sized portions - I left feeling full which is how I like. Plenty of meat - between us we tried all on offer and everyone was pleased. Good selection of tasty veg (beetroot was a nice addition), excellent gravy - although due to the amount of food we had to ask for more, which was happily provided. All told it was a really nice lunch in a proper pub - definitely going to visit again.

We came here after reading reviews on trip adviser. I am so glad we did. The food was amazing, Thai food which is one of my favourites. I tried something new and I loved it. Will be returning when we're back in the area.

Don't be put off by the blokey feel to the pub because if you're after some incredible Thai food then this is the pub to come to. Reasonably priced, great menu and so tasty. We'll definitely be back and we'll also be trying the home delivery.

We went to the Longman for a pre-Christmas lunch with a large group of friends.We pre booked as was told that it gets very busy as is very popular, which it was.We each had a roast dinner (4 options). There were 13 of us and all the food arrived at the same time.The roast dinner was quite generous with a big Yorkshire pudding and lovely crackling on my pork. The only disappointment were the potatoes which could have been crispier. Overall, very enjoyable.

I had my leaving lunch from work here, it was fantastic food at such a bargain. Thanks to Kenny and the team. We pre ordered and the food came out on time and exactly what we had ordered. We will visit again for sure

Had spicy squid (which was very spicy) and a king prawn red curry. My wife had some dim sum style dumplings and king prawn drunken noodles. All really good. Authentic and big portions. Less than 25 quid for the food. Will be back regularly. Drinks a bit pricey but much cheaper than town.

Very good Thai food...lovely seafood as well..good servoce. We were there second time and definitely will come back.

I love my thai food and was disappointed with the meal i got recently. the Tom yum soup had a very processed taste to it and none of the fresh ingredients like ginger and lemongrass were to be seen. the fish cakes were not fish cakes!..processed bits of rubber and pretty disgusting. the spring rolls were tiny little things and just mushed up veg in the inside unlike the nice light noodles and finely shredded veg you typically get.Also the take away price was the same as eat in and not good value for money

We visited on a Saturday night and whilst there was a limited menu, the Thai chicken curry with noodles and rice was exceptional. My husband had a chicken satay burger which he also enjoyed. The food was very good value and the service was very good. Will be back soon.

Lovely thai food served from the longman pub kitchen - We ventured back here today after about 1.5 years as it lost it's way a little. Happy to report the food is better than ever before and we will be back again next week!

such a good Thai food restaurant and take away. the Long Man pub is great and the Thai kitchen is a great addition, one of the main reasons we go to this pub now. they offer take away delivery on a Friday/Saturday night, which is handy when you cant be bothered to walk down to the pub! well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed. pub staff are great, kitchen staff are lovely, the pub offers a good range of beers/ales/ciders to accompany the food, that it is win win all round!

We visited the Long Man for lunch and certainly didn't leave disappointed. The pub itself is a large building and inside feels very traditional. Whether being there for dinner or lunch you can choose your pick of tables within the very large exterior, although you are also able to eat outside as the pub also caters for this.Within The Long Man is its real hidden gem, Maggs Thai Restaurant, which offers a delightful range of Thai food at very reasonable prices. On our visit I ordered the Drunken Noodles, which is wok fried flat noodles with veg and chilli, while my wife ordered the Yellow Curry, which is a coconut based dish. Both dishes cost £5 each, which when added to the Coke and Diet Coke we added came out at the reasonable cost of £13.95.Once my Drunken Noodles arrived I was quite pleased with the portion size. It was smaller than the standard portion, which usually comes with a choice of meats or tofu for vegetarians, but we had instead opted for the lunch menu at £5 which strips the meal of these options and gives you a slightly smaller, but still reasonably sized portion.Tasting the Drunken Noodles gave me a flavour explosion which I haven't had in quite a while, I have to say that the flavour was pretty outstanding. The spice was just right, while there was also a distinct and unmistakable Thai flavour. I'd heard good things about Maggs Thai food and after one taste I could see why. It's fair to say that the contents of my plate didn't hang around too long.This was only a short visit for lunch, but you can bet that me and my family will be returning in the future to try out more dishes.

Have eaten here a few times now and have always found the food excellent. They do a very good lunchtime deal for £5 but you may need a starter as well as this is a smaller portion. Service is quick and the menu very good. You would need to book a table at the weekends as it's always busy (another good sign it's good) the pub is good to and often has live music. Would recommend to everyone

A local Patcham landmark ( part of the lion group of pubs) mainly used by local people from the Patcham /Hollingbury areas and a small amount of passing trade.Always a good atmosphere and for the sports fans who enjoy watching the main matches and games on the big screen (this place as various large screen throughout the pub. The pub is sort of split into two half's, one end has the pool table and sports screens,while the other end has more seating areas for talking and eating .live music and tribute acts are on throughout the year (about once a month see the board outside the pub on dates). outside space has a beer garden and seating areas with heaters these are great for the summer months .the food is good i had a Thai curry with rice and a bowl of chips, the curry was quite hot and spicy, rice was light and fluffy and the chips also very good ,Food was reasonably priced,the drinks are a little expensive but you save on travel costs into town , so as long as you don't spend too much at the bar your total spend works out the same.Overall a good pub, friendly staff, nice food and a must for the sports fans.(most of the big games/matches are shown on the big screens)

Very disappointed in the Thai takeaway I had. It was very spicey which was good, but there were no other tastes coming through and the noodles didn't look or taste very inspiring. The fish cakes were luke warm and it felt like I was chewing on rubber. They were tasteless apart from the heat of the chillies. I have eaten in the restaurant before and couldn't get enough of the food because it was so good, but this takeaway was not of the same calibre. I would eat in again but I won't be having any more takeaways from there. Two others in my party enjoyed their food and one other person was not at all impressed with his food either.

This is a great pub which has a good range of well kept beers (Dave Day wouldn't have it any other way), and the addition of the Thai Kitchen (now called Keng's instead of Magg's) was a very welcome one. I've eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The same goes for everyone I've eaten there with. This is authentic Thai cooking at it's best, and rivals any other Thai meal I've had anywhere in the country. Yes it's a pub setting rather than a restaurant, but don't let that put you off. The pub is very friendly, and the service is excellent.From the starters, the Isaan Sausage, and spicy Squid come highly recommended. The squid is certainly spicy, and delicious. From the main courses, the Pad Thai noodles are as good as I've had anywhere, the Thai Currys are excellent, and my latest favourite is Keng's Flying Duck which is fantastic value for money and includes a surprisingly large portion of duck. Bloomin' lovely!All washed down with one (or more) of a large selection of lagers or real ales, you just can't go wrong.

The food itself was fantastic. Plenty of traditional Thai food to choose from which came quickly to our table and was a treat to eat! The pub itself is nice decor and we went midweek so it was quiet enough to enjoy our table without any disturbance considering there was a midweek game of football on the television. The drinks aren't too pricey so all in all a great 'local'

OK, so this is not the nicest area of Brighton and it can look a little off-putting for some, but the staff are freindly and the Thai food itself is very good.

Whether you are staying in the center of town or on the outskirts, you must visit Maggs in the Long Man Pub in Carden Avenue. We have eaten there many times and each time the food is exquisite and authentic with service which is absolutely professional and first class. The price is right, £7.95 for a main course, about £4 for a starter. Wide menu which chef is prepared to tweak to taste. Absolutely no parking problems either. What more could you ask? I've been there with my partner, with family and friends.
