Maffia's Bar & Brssserie in Tendring

We had dinner at Maffia's during a recent stay in Holland on Sea. Our starters of crab and smoked duck were both tasty but not too large to spoil our appetites. For our mains my husband had a beautiful fillet of halibut in a mussel and cream sauce and I had lobster thermidor with hand made chips. I enjoyed my lobster so much that I pinched the spoon used to serve my husband's vegetables so that I didn't miss a drop of the lovely cheesy sauce and the chips were to die for! We happily finished up with desserts of a blackberry infused creme brulee and lemon cheesecake which were also delicious. Based on our dining experience I would recommend this restaurant as offering a good selection of well cooked bistro style dishes.

Lovely staff and fantastic, tasty, well-presented food - If I lived closer I would make this restaurant a regular haunt!

Such a lovely menu we didn't know what to choose! We both had fresh Cromer crab, then slow cooked lamb shoulder served with crispy skin and pork belly with excellent crackling. Just managed to squeeze in desserts too. Very generous portions. Very friendly welcome and service. Limited but reasonably priced wine list. Only open Thursday to Sunday. Thoroughly enjoyable evening and really excellent food. A must visit if you’re in the area.

Just returned from a Sunday lunch, with my wife daughter and son in law. Staff friendly and welcoming, food very good. Nothing at all to complain about, and as a grumpy 87 year old, I am completely happy.

We really can't fault the food and service at this fabulous restaurant. Chris and her team are always welcoming and super attentive and there's a lovely atmosphere. Even my vegetarian friend who can be a bit of a nightmare when eating out has asked if we can go again next time she visits which is high praise indeed from her. Highly recommended.

Mi marido y yo hemos estado comiendo en este restaurante durante unos 15 años y en todo ese tiempo, sólo hemos tenido un incidente de enviar algo. Cuando venga a amigos y familiares de estancia con nosotros siempre nos tomamos Maffias como sabemos la comida y el servicio son excelentes.Habíamos oído muy buenos comentarios sobre el día de Navidad el almuerzo y pensamos en probarlo año pasado 2014. Fue excelente. Sin embargo, Navidad 2015 no van a ser el mismo. Debido a los compromisos contraídos con el trabajo nuestra familia no siempre hacen que día de Navidad juntos, pero este año pudimos, así que reservamos hasta después de que me dio comentarios favorables sobre el almuerzo de Navidad el año anterior.Estaba muy por debajo de la media y sólo puedo pensar que tampoco Dave el chef tenía el día o que estaban corriendo sin comida o ambos. La escasez de comida no debería suceder ya que tienes que hacerles saber lo que quieres con antelación. Los aperitivos estaban bien, pero el problema era que los platos principales. Patatas de asado, que parecía como si hubieran sido hecho el día anterior y se calentaba, patatas con puré o paquete que cruza rancias hecha con patatas, cerdos en mantas crucificado, Bruselas que no se podía cortar por y relleno que era sin duda Paxo miserable y dos rodajas de carne, que se suponía que iban a ser Turquía y cerdo!!! Cómo muy decepcionante. Las camareras Georgia y Hannah trabajo como troyanos, y son siempre muy educado y eficiente. Parece que hay un nuevo tipo de allí es lo que hace que no puedo entender. Él simplemente parece pasearse por ahora y otra vez retiraba vasos desde las mesas pero cuando pedimos para bebidas pareció olvidar acerca de nosotros y otras mesas. Vi unas cuantas personas recordarle acerca de sus bebidas. En 80 libras por cabeza no es aceptable y si Chris y su equipo quieren salvar su buena reputación de un establecimiento excelente que necesitan conseguir cosas. No volveremos a reservar el almuerzo de Navidad allí y todavía estoy seguro que a ir de nuevo.

He estado yendo a Maffias durante años con mi familia y normalmente no puedo alabar la comida lo suficiente, de hecho creo que me han enviado una revisión anteriormente diciendo así.Este año, mi familia y yo decidimos ir allí para la cena de Navidad, una comida de cinco platos por 80 libras por cabeza y bebidas. Mis padres habían sido previamente para la cena de Navidad y dijo que, como siempre, la comida era deliciosa.Nos pidieron que seleccionar nuestras opciones para cenar por 11 de diciembre, que no es un problema. Mi plato de setas con Stilton sonaba genial pero me decepcionó, se servía en un ramekin en una salsa acuoso que había formado en el fondo. Pedí un filete de Main, que era precioso, pero era muy pequeña y la que sirve de puré tenía era igual de pequeña, y me parecía que estaba bien de las antiguas patatas o papas en polvo ya que parecía a desintegrarse en mi plato en la salsa. Un plato principal como éste normalmente llega con puré de patatas y asado Maffias pero esta vez no fue así, fue acompañada por una selección de vegetales muy poco hecho que hubo. El postre era preciosa, disfrutó mucho. Mi madre comentó que sus patatas asadas estaban secos y un poco poco hecha, y mis hermanas plato principal también era muy pequeña.Mi madre estaba enfadado como ella nos gustó tanto el año pasado y estaba deseando que una comida del mismo calibre este año. La factura, con una punta muy generoso, ascendieron a más de £600 y no vale la pena. Estoy muy decepcionado porque este es normalmente un restaurante de primera clase y la experiencia este año ha arruinado Navidad día para mi madre.Tengo que mencionar los camareros Georgie y Hannah, que son siempre genial, siempre sonriendo, siempre trabajando arduamente y siempre muy amable. Un verdadero mérito al restaurante.Es una pena que las Navidades 2015 experiencia ha contaminado mi opinión de Maffias. Se pierde un poco de la chispa para mí.

Habiendo vivido a pocos metros de este restaurante por más de 4 años ahora, y después de haber probado muchos una riquísima comida ahí, nunca lo oscurecerse, sus puertas otra vez ahora! Estuvimos allí San Valentín semana final con nuestros amigos y reservado para la víspera de año nuevo. La primera en el libro y Chrissie se negó un depósito ya que estaba tan lejos. Pedimos un par de veces durante el año y de nuevo se negaron diciendo que estaba bien, así como los nombres y número de teléfono estaba allí en el libro. Fuimos para cena del domingo con mi semana de madre final antes de la ultima vez se ofreció a dar un depósito. Nos dijeron que estaban muy ocupados y podíamos por favor vuelva a la semana. Así que, mi marido fue a pagar sólo me dijeron que estaban completamente llenos. alzando la lista de cuaderno engrapado en el libro de nuestros nombres y el número de teléfono y que esto era poner allí a principios del próximo año. se puso nervioso y dijo "Todas estas personas han pagado un depósito y estamos completamente lleno". Estoy totalmente desconcertada por su actitud y para salir con amigos vienen a nosotros para año nuevo y ahora la nada!! Ni una vez ella se disculpó por su error. Un grupo de 10 de nosotros comimos aquí el domingo pasado y tenía una mesa junto a la ventana.pedimos bebidas que estaban en la mesa a menos de dos minutos ... muchacho que fue rápido. Los aperitivos eran muy agradables, en especial los mejillones. Que era tan bueno como iba a llegar como francamente el plato principal era muy pobre. Fui el primero en ser servido hombro extrañamos de cordero, que era precioso ) en un plato no muy caliente. eran las ocho minutos y medio antes que los vegetales llegamos. Eso significa que la comida estaba tibia cuando comencé a.dos tenían Turquía y dos tenían la tres carne selección ... todas las carnes cortadas y no eran máquina tallados a mano.Obviamente una salsa y trabajo cocinado Las patatas asadas veía hermosa pero eran duras como balas. Dos personas de nuestro grupo no tocar. Las verduras estaban aburrido. El broccali era difícil ¿Por qué ponen col en cuando ya tienes una Brassica.el otro fue una mezcla de sueco y zanahoria puré. Una persona no comimos todas sus comidas.Como estaban muy ocupados dos camareras, que trabajaron hasta no poder más, no es suficiente para atender a alrededor de 50 personas.He estado aquí muchas veces antes y las comidas han sido siempre excelente, así que no me da gran placer que a escribir un mal informe

Sólo disfrutamos otra tremenda comida en Maffias! Hemos estado viniendo aquí años con nuestra familia y ahora con nuestra propia familia. Siempre nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos, incluyendo a nuestros dos niños pequeños, y la comida es siempre recién preparado y magnífico. Excelente relación calidad-precio. No tiene rival por aquí para disfrutar de una buena comida recién preparada.

Reservamos este restaurante para mi suegro 90 cumpleaños. La comida era estupenda, grandes porciones, ninguno de esta cocina nouveau! El personal era muy servicial, aunque el restaurante estaba muy lleno, incluso le cantaron feliz cumpleaños cuando nos trajeron la tarta. Fantástica relación calidad-precio ya que compare todos restaurante a precios de Londres desde que viven allí. Sin duda volveremos cuando estoy en la zona.

Mi marido y yo hemos estado viniendo a este restaurante desde que abrió sus puertas, a veces como una pareja, algunas veces con nuestros hijos y sus hijos, algunas veces con amigos y siempre hemos tenido una excelente comida, servicio y nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. Tratamos otros lugares para comer, pero normalmente terminan que desean que habíamos ido a Maffias. Buena comida y muy buena relación calidad-precio.

En los 8/9 años que hemos estado utilizando Maffias hemos tenido recién comida para cocinar una maravilla, muy buena calidad, muy bien servido en un entorno encantador y muy buen ambiente. Tenemos un negocio en la zona y constantemente lo recomendaría y tienen gran recomendaciones de los comensales. Los propietarios son restauranteurs diligentes trabajan duro que tienen un gran producto y debe hacer las cosas bien, ya que están llenos de forma regular ...Si la mesa su esperando todavía ocupado los propietarios o personal no se puede culpar por eso! Quizás el 'John' (comentario anterior) debe pedir la mesa retrasando su comida para comprar su una copa? La mesa ocupada sin duda es testimonio de su popularidad.

Hemos estado yendo a Maffais durante los últimos 14 años y sólo una vez en todo ese tiempo tiene la comida no ha sido a la altura. La decoración ha sido upodated y se parece a lo que es un bar y restaurante brasseri . los camareros han sido siempre agradable y servicial. El propietario y director siempre está lleno, así que no puedo hablar con todos, pero intento. Hemos estado y a veces por las noches de almuerzo y siempre tenía unas muy buenas y abundantes comidas.La mejor carne que hemos tenido aquí. El domingo para llevar son geniales. Los precios son razonables.

I don't normally write reviews but on this occasion I felt my whole experience was so bad I would have to.Upon arriving to this slightly dated looking bar and brasserie me and my wife were greeted by a very pleasant and professional blonde young lady who showed us our table although we did have to wait around 15 minutes to be seated as there was still people on it. unfortunately it went down hill from here on.The place is very small and could do with updating and looks like it has not had any money spent on it in 30 years. The food here is very basic and probably frozen by the looks and taste of it, we had heard very mixed reviews about this place but we went here with an open mind but unfortunately we would definitely not go back, the service is slow, and food overpriced, the elderly owner/manageress has a really bad attitude problem and was talking down to the waiting staff in front of everyone and when she was not doing that she was at the bar drinking wine by the bucketload, not very professional at all.It seemed to us that she has her small number of loyal regular customers coming here that probably are not that fussy on what they eat and she is not bothered on any new customers walking through the door as she make no effort to engage with people and just stares at you while your trying to eat (very strange indeed) maybe this is just a hobby for the owner and that would make sense. From what I have seen I can't believe that this place gets any "excellent" reviews on here, I would imagine these are from friends or family. Don't waste your time and money going here, there are far better places with better food and service from the management around this area.

Nuestro grupo de cuatro entramos en el restaurante antes de las 8 de la mañana y me dijeron que la mesa no estaba del todo preparada para nosotros y que por lo tanto pedimos la bebida en el bar. Durante el curso de nuestra espera, nos dijeron que por la encantadora camarera del progreso de la mesa. Sin embargo, en 8,25 uno de nuestro grupo le pedimos al propietario, bastante llegué, clima nuestra ronda de bebidas estaría en la casa, ya que había esperado 25 minutos. Nos dijeron que por el propietario, que había servido muchas personas en ella 22 1/2 años de servicio. Luego preguntamos si ella se negaba a servirnos para que nos dijo que, sin embargo, no creo que sería capaz de complacernos.Nuestro grupo dijo que estábamos muy lo siento si teníamos ofendido y la verdad es que no creo que nuestra petición era excesivo. Por desgracia, debido a la mala educación completa del propietario, nos sentimos no tuvimos otra alternativa que dejar. Al igual que en otros comentarios quizás el propietario era un poco borracho y es por eso que ella tenía un problema de actitud, una de las cosas que nunca volveremos a este lugar y asegurarse de que todo el mundo lo sabemos, es consciente de lo que una amarga vieja señora al propietario realmente es.Es una pena para lo que podría haber sido una agradable velada . El personal era muy amable y nos preocupamos por los propietarios actitud.

Visitamos varias veces desde que nos trasladamos aquí en 2008. Siempre una gran experiencia.La comida siempre es coherente en la calidad y el servicio es de primera categoría. Mi compañero había estado aquí antes y me llevó a cenar. Cuando llegamos era muy ocupados, pero llegamos temprano a nuestra reserva que habíamos hecho. El propietario (la más madura señora) recibieron y otro miembro del personal nos invitó a sentarnos en el bar y disfrutar de una copa mientras esperamos en la mesa. Lo más raro sobre el personal era la manera en que vestidos. Los 3 miembros femeninos de personal vestido como si fuera un sábado por la noche. Me pareció que tenía muy poco profesional. Fue una pena que no fueron vestida con ropa más adecuada para que sirve comida. No me malinterpreten, ya que no parecen bonitas pero elegante pantalones o faldas y un elegante blusa sería más apropiada de tacones y vestidos y lo que parecía ser * salir llevar ropa de trabajo * no * * . La comida era deliciosa y las verduras fue preparado muy bien. Los alrededores estaban muy bien, pero era un poco desorganizado con nuestra camarera sin olvidar que habíamos pedido bebidas y cuando nos eventualmente llegar nuestras refils uno de las bebidas estaban equivocados. Por el precio que se paga lo que esperaba no tener que recordar a la camarera que necesitábamos nuestras bebidas. Cuando nos preguntaron si nos gustaría postres por los más jóvenes chica dijo que no estaba molesto si pedimos o no mientras que ella podría haber nos animaron a la orden por quizás sugiriendo un favorito. No estoy seguro de cómo me siento sobre Mafias así que vuelvo a dar otra oportunidad y decidir la próxima vez.

Maffia es siempre ha disfrutado de una buena reputación. Y sí, no se merecen, es nuestra segunda visita en un mes, el servicio es atento y auténtico. Somos una familia de 7 adultos, incluyendo amigas. El menú era lo suficientemente variada para complacer a todo el mundo, el problema es que todo el mundo tenía problemas para decidir qué comer! La porción tamaños donde amplio. Tuve el skate, mi primera vez, bien cocinada, sin embargo el machacado patatas - no eran y podría haber hecho con mucho más sabor a limón mantequilla el pescado y papas, como estaba seco, mejor con una verdura como bien judías. Los entrantes: pato y Pigeon estaban bien, pero están a la misma ensalada con un cambio de finamente fiambres, que me decepcionó, sugeriría un enfoque diferente quizás como un estilo de Bruschetta. Acabado de bacalao así que teníamos que haber patinar en £17 por comida. El demasiado pescado y podría ser la mitad de precio por pequeña porción. No pedimos ensalada de verduras. Comida Cuando llegó. ensalada y le dije que no me pedí verduras. Nos dijo que teníamos una doble porción de verduras. No hay suficientes granos. Reconoció que pedí verduras así otra porción estaba en su camino. Demasiado tarde a mitad de camino por comida. No nos preguntó si necesitábamos cualquier otra salsa. Me habría gustado ketchup chips Tuvimos que pedir. No me puedo quejar. Aunque un poco caro comparado con otros restaurantes y vino £16,00 por botella. No volvería en servicio solo.

Nos sentamos en el jardín de la luz del sol. La cocina era flexible con la orden ya que lo único que queríamos era un bocado ligero. Cerveza estaba fría, incluso mejor. La comida era estupenda, los camareros amables. Quizás un poco caro pero era mejor que sentarse en un pub. Muy limpio y bien cuidado.

I have visited this bistro many times but in particular love their Sunday Roast Dinner. The food is always good , I have never had a bad meal and the staff are always friendly, including the owner, Chris. We often go there late on a Sunday and Chris always manages to find us a table even though we may not have previously booked.

I have been here a couple of times with my in-laws (who live in the area) and its always our go to place for a special occasion or if we want a treat.The service is always efficient and with a smile. They work very hard and it shows in their customer service.The food is of an excellent quality. Ive never been disappointed with what I have been served. Its very tasty, well cooked and good value for money.We will be going back as there are birthdays coming up, so i am really looking forward to the next visit.

Once again full marks for a superb Christmas Dinner by Dave the Chef, and also the tremendous efforts by the two waitresses for how hard they all work!.Regretfully, the down side was the fact we were on time for the second 4.30 p.m. sitting, and were still only on the second starter course some two hours later, and in an effort to bring forward the main course, (as we were getting rather hungry) we cancelled the Sorbet course, but regretfully, this did not improve the Main course delivery.Janet did request some Bread and Butter to Chris, with the Poached Salmon course because the hunger was beginning to bite, only to be told by Chris "it does not come with Bread and Butter" - bearing in mind £75 per head.Having knowledge of Cruise Liners, the Dining Room sittings are separated by closing the Restaurant after the first sitting for preparation, therefore allowing for the second sitting and the re-opening of the Restaurant to happy diners - perhaps this should be adopted.Regretfully, change of venue for Christmas 2015

My wife and I ate at this resto many years ago, and it remained best known to us for the high price of it's wine. However, a few days ago, we re-visited and found the wine prices to be about right for the selection. What's more, we found the food to be really good too!The booking by phone was a pleasant experience, our first point of contact with the waitress was equally good too. We felt very welcome.The menu was interesting, there were at least three starters that I would have liked, finally I thought the salmon would be fine with ribeye to follow. The salmon was particularly tender, and the salad leaves very fresh. The granary bread came pre-buttered which we found a little unusual but they quickly changed it for un-buttered and provided olive oil at our request. I asked that my char-grilled steak be pan-fried but this request seemed to have been overlooked when it came out. Nevertheless, it was cooked perfectly, without, I'm pleased to say, the lines of carbon sometimes found on char-grilled food.We had the house red wine from Chile which was delicious. There is a limited choice for beer drinkers, either John Smiths or Stella draught. A bottled IPA might have been nice!There was a fair choice of desserts, we both had one each. The bill for the night, £85.75.There's a car-park right outside, and if you use public transport, a bus-stop within a hundred meters or so of the restaurant. Altogether, a good experience, which we will be repeating again soon.

It was a pleasant evening, the staff very friendly and inviting,Our food was nice and hot and we did not wait very long to be served our food.Whilst I enjoyed my food very much, it is a nice evening out with good food to save cooking at home, as it is basic home cooked pub food.I would not go for a celebration meal as I prefere to eat at a resturant where the food I order is something I would not cook myself at home, as this would be more of a treat.

We love this restaurant the food is always delicious and the staff are friendly, polite and helpful, we've been many times and it's always the same definitely recommend it to everyone

I have been to Maffia's many times over the last 25 years or so, my last visit being on Sunday. The food was lovely as usual, we had the Crayfish & Prawn cocktail starter and the Roast Platter for our main. It's nice that they still understand how important it is to provide a smart venue, excellent food and staff who are polite and attentive. If you're looking for a 'touch of class' as part of your meal out, then I would suggest you eat at Maffia's. Keep up the good work.

Being a little peckish on a Sunday afternoon and having visited Maffias previously, myself and lovely wife headed off to what we thought had been a lovely little restaurant. The food was always nice and the staff were mostly pleasant (excluding the owner, who is generally rude). What a mistake it was to visit on this day and we also regret that we didn't instead remain at home and starve ourselves of food until we no longer had the strength to even breathe. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy on this day and we were seated within a few minutes, the owner was at this point staggering around, and bumping into tables while trying to find her previously filled to the top wine glass. On finding her glass was now empty she again filled it to the brim and looked pleased. It didn't remain full for long as she necked the whole glass, before again filling it to the top. Being obviously more than a little tipsy, the owner was oblivious to the fact that her waiting staff were also drinking the bar dry and by the time we left, the entire waiting staff were seen to be staggering around.On the positive side the food was lovely and only let down by paralytic waiting staff falling around the restaurant not even able to add up the bill.
