Madtom Seafood Cafe Bar in Pembrokeshire

We had a great meal here in early March (fabulous seafood platter to share) and returned later in the month with friends. One of our group had complex dietary allergies, so I contacted the restaurant in advance to discuss what they could offer. We agreed that one couple would have the standard seafood platter, and the other couple would have a seafood platter with some amendments to meet her dietary requirements. The whole meal was brilliant (for all of us), and everyone, from front of house to kitchen staff, made sure that the meal was safe and had as much variety as possible. I cannot praise the team highly enough for producing great food, at a great price, with great customer service.

Had the most fantastic evening meal here to celebrate my daughter’s 30th birthday. There were 8 of us plus a child and 3 small dogs. From the moment of booking, the restaurant was nothing but helpful , friendly and accommodating towards us. They told us we could bring the cake with us and there was no charge for that , unlike some restaurants which make a big fuss about it and charge for the privilege. When we arrived the waiting staff were all wonderful and so genuinely friendly. They made us feel very welcome. If that wasn’t enough, the food was absolutely divine! Every single person enjoyed what they ordered and the portions were generous. I had a half lobster and it was fantastic. The chips are worth a mention too. Thanks so much to everyone at Madtom for a truly memorable evening.

One of the best seafood restaurants I have eaten in ! the food was incredible, I cannot give it 5 stars due to the service. I have t say it was appalling, We were told we were forgotten about being in one of the outside greenhouses, but not forgotten about once but several times. This place could go far, if they could sort out the service and give the staff some training.

Great staff and service. Foor excellent. Recommend the nibbles if you are not too hungry. Generous mains.

Sunday roast really tasty and value for money. Service a little slow but staff very pleasant and apologetic for the wait.

We had booked here with much anticipation as my husband loves seafood. Our table was booked for 6.45. We arrived, greeted well by staff and sat at the table. We ordered a bottle of wine and after about 15 mins placed our food order. We were chatting and got chatting to the table next to us and then we realised we’d been sitting for 45 minutes and our starters hadn’t appeared. We asked the waiter who apologised and came back and told us our order hadn’t gone through to the kitchen, but our starters wouldn’t be long. Another 25 minute wait, another apology and we still had no starters. Every other table near us had been served and the people next to us ( who arrived 15 mins after we sat down) had food. Eventually we told them to leave it, we’d go elsewhere. They didn’t charge us for the bottle of wine, and we left. The time was about 8.30 by now, we were hungry and luckily for us the hotel we were staying in next door has a restaurant and we had a fantastic pizza in there. But we had booked a night away in Narberth especially to come here so a bit of a wasted trip for us.

Myself & my husband enjoyed an amazing Sunday roast dinner. Great & friendly service from start to finish. Will definitely be returning in the future.

If you like sea food, you MUST visit! Personally I'm not a lover of sea food but I may be changing my mind after dining here..simply WOW!!!

We visited this evening (27.02) as two adults, two young children and a newborn baby and we all thoroughly enjoyed! The food was top notch! The portion size was huge, so much so that none of us finished and the quality was second to none. As well as the food being brilliant, so was the service. I didn’t catch the name of our server but he was attentive, polite and even managed to get us a side of beans for our two year old even though they don’t usually serve them - what a star! We’ll definitely be back as a family but also with friends or for a date as it can truly cater for all

Went to Madtoms tonight, was greeted with a warm welcome from Henry who was attentive and very friendly. Would recommend this place to family and friends and i will be coming back! 5 stars!!!

Staying at nearby Bluestone and booked last minute. Amazing welcome and brilliant food. The steaks are massive and the lobster was perfect! Adapted a meal for our daughter and reduced the price! Spotlessly clean and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Wonderful lunch. Best mussels and chips I've had in ages. My husband had the brill - which he said was brill!! Will be back soon.

Visited Madtoms in July 2023, we sat in one of their fab greenhouse seating areas, as we had a puppy with us. As you can see by the photos, the standard of food was exceptional. Incredibly tasty, incredibly fresh. Our starters came out promptly, the mains were lovely - the fish platter was huge, it had mussels, whitebait, calamari, prawns and we added a Tenby lobster - so delicious, came with mini loaves of bread and chips. The service was good, although they were busy that evening they were very attentive. Overall, I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Our second visit and a great way to kick off our few days away. We loved the little fish pops and panko prawns. Lovely Pembrokeshire lobster and plaice. See you next time!

Busy weeknight evening (night before Valentine’s + half term) but they kindly squeezed us in. And so glad they did. Food was absolutely delicious! We had the Tenby lobster and the ribs and both were just perfect. Service and wait time was as you’d expect for a busy small independent restaurant but honestly don’t mind waiting when atmosphere and drinks are so good, and food was 100% worth the wait. One of the best meals out we’ve had in a long time.

The food was amazing and the staff we great. Jamie served us and helped us choose our dinner - he was helpful and good fun. We both had fish dishes and they were top notch.

However, it was a very bad choice indeed. We had appalling service from non-attentive lazy staff, partial food orders being delivered to our table at different times. In fact my son, whos birthday it was, had a meal presented to him which was completely different to the one he ordered. The staff apologised and had the correct meal cooked. However by the time he got his correct meal, everyone else at our table had finished eating and he'd lost his appetite. Not once were we ever asked by staff if everything was OK with our meal or if we wanted any drinks as they were too busy polishing glasses and chatting to each other behind the bar. We ended up calling them over to take a drinks order. We even had to ask for salt and pepper!! Might i add the restaurant wasn't busy either. One of the guests at our table had an micro sized portion of chicken which cost £18 and he also ordered two lime and sodas which cost a staggering £8.40!!! It was a memorable 30th birthday party for all the WRONG reasons and it really upset us all.

Really enjoyed our visit last night, staff were most welcoming, menu was difficult to choose from for a first visit, everything sounds delicious. Busy on a January Wednesday is not easy in Pembrokeshire, that speaks volumes. We have been wanting to visit for a while. I opted for a steak , my better half had fish stew. Food was excellent. No seasoning on the table was talked about, no need for that was the verdict 👌 We will return, the starter menu needs exploring!

The service here was great, as was our table. The meal started well with nice olives and dips but the meal was not terribly generous- £15 for 3 large prawns and a bit of salad (no homemade bread or whipped butter as in 2022) is too much. The lobster was rubbery and over- buttery, the fish medley was too saucy with not enough fish. The chips were over salted.. What a shame! This is a lovely location and there is real potential. The chance to delight was unfortunately missed. We understand how difficult it is for restaurants in this economic climate, but we hoped for slightly better cooking.

Food was bland, meals weren't even being served (birthday boys food was served once we all finished ours). Polite staff, but poor service. Lobster was like rubber. Chicken was dry. Considering we were the ONLY table having food, I wouldn't really expect so many plates either being forgotten or late to the table. I personally wouldn't go again.

Late evening walk in for two, staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Starter and mains were fabulous, really quite reasonable for the quality and size of the portions. Also the Welsh Ale is very tasty. Ambient music was excellent. Thank you 😊

Came here yesterday with 2 friends and my girlfriend on recommendation of another friend. We eat out alot and was looking forward to this but as we started the lady taking the order was leaning on the chair the whole time taking the order. I asked for starters to come out with mains because I was only one having starter but it didn't. My friends fish and chips didn't come with tartar sauce, the venison burger obviously comes to the restaurant wrapped in plastic because my friend found a good part of it in his meal. My girlfriends corn on the cob came out stone cold and I had to ask for cutlery. I asked for sauces and some salt which turned up 10/15 minutes after the food did. They didn't do check backs until we actually finished our meals aswell and we didn't bother complaining because the waitress made it clear they had a rubbish day. The steak and peppercorn sauce was banging tho! All round though, I feel 2 star is generous specially for how expensive the food it.

We were very much looking forward to eating there. The staff were welcoming and accommodated us booking an earlier table. I am not sure if they were having an off day, but anything fried was very overcooked, the batter being hard and dark brown. The bread was also extremely salty and overbaked. We ordered the seafood platter and a fish and chips. The lobster, mussels and pea puree (that accompanied the fish and chips) were delicious.

Thanks to all at Mad Tom's for such a perfect day yesterday. 15 for lunch and it was excellent!!! With great service to boot!! So grateful to you guys xx

One of our favourite eateries in Narberth Moving to a larger premises across the square, looking forward to visiting the new place soon.

We didn't stay so I can't comment on the rooms. We were staying in narbeth for a week and came across madtoms when looking for a drink in town. The place smelled unreal, the seafood smell is just something else. After having one drink we booked for the following night to go back for the seafood sharer (£40). As it was a holiday we thought why not add the whole lobster for an extra £30... well we shouldn't have. The tail meat was tough as and stringy. The sharer platter was excellent but have to give 4 stars for the tough lobster... the lidl frozen one I've cooked at home is smaller but easier to eat (I don't fight with food) In summary, definitely go to madtoms, just don't jump on the lobster, there are much better items on the menu

Amazing fresh seafood and service.

This restaurant was comfortable and cosy, the service was impeccable; and the food was 10/10 unforgettably delicious. My husband and I both had the steak but I’m sure the other options were equally delectable, as the high standards are apparent. Our only gripe is that Narberth isn’t near to us (far from it), otherwise we would frequent this place to the point of absurdity! Thoroughly recommended.

Lush food. We had a mix of small plates and the cod cheeks. Everything was hot, tasty and arrived in good time. Very good service. Was a novelty to eat in a greenhouse but not unpleasant Just a shame we couldn’t add a tip to the bill as we don’t carry cash!

What can I say but Wow! Food was amazing and lots of it. The waitress we had was friendly and always smiling. Really want to keep this place my little secret.

Excellent cook, linguine a la putanesca like in Italy and fishes cooked with taste, originality and elegance. The atmosphere is perfect. A very great moment.

We drove up from Tenby (only about 20 mins) for dinner and it was gorgeous! We shared the seafood platter for 2 and had a dessert each and the food was stunning and arrived quickly. The staff were all very friendly and answered my questions about the various lobster utensils as I wasn’t sure how to use them😂 Would highly recommend!

This place......what to say other than wow. Atmosphere is awesome, clean with a nice rustic twist. The staff are so friendly and helpful, myself and the family went on a particular hot day and the staff were just blasting through things to make sure we had a good meal. Now onto the food .....I've done some traveling in my time for sea food and this one was the best hands down! Fresh and well seasoned.....home made warm soft bread with herbs mixed throughout it, crispy fish bites & super huge king prawns in a perfect broth. If you're a sea food fan this is a must. To top it all off its an independent family run business, so it's nice to put money back into the local community, rather than a dirty chain. I wish this business all the best in the future, I'll be returning whenever I find myself in Wales. 10/10 lovley night out.

Me and my new wife came here for our first honeymoon meal. Amazing food and such a beautiful setting. We had the platter and there is so much food but everything is so delicious.

Lovely food. I had the plaice which was very moist with a cockle sauce and asparagus. Tasty hand cut chips. We were in one of the glasshouses which are lively and warm and private. The waitress was new but really lovely and very efficient.

Had an excellent meal here, shared a seafood platter, couldn’t even finish it between us two. Thought that a little baked loaf of bread with butter as one of the sides looked very original. The seafood was supreme, can’t recommend enough.

Well, what a find. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Good food is hard to find in Pembrokeshire but this little place is great. Definitely coming back again.

Beautiful food and drink. Sat in one if the outside greenhouses (dog friendly and had a labrador in tow) and enjoyed half lobster and sirloin steak -cooked perfectly. Friendly quick service and a lovely setting.

Visited here last night and the food was absolutely incredible. Some of the freshest and bested seafood I’ve eaten in the UK We were seated outside in one of the little greenhouses and it was Cosy and romantic. Our server was amazing and explained some dishes to us which we wernt sure what were. We had half a large lobster, steamed mussels, 14oz Pembrokeshire sirloin and I had a single oyster to try as my partner doesn’t like them. One of the tastiest oysters I have had. The homemade chips were a so crunchy and fluffy the perfect skin on chip! We shared the chocolate fondant desert which we were informed was all cooked fresh. It was beautifully rich and decadent. The perfect sharer to end a fabulous meal. 10/10

Was absolutely looking forward to fresh seafood dishes but left very disappointed. We wasn’t taken to our table instead lady pointed with her finger where the table is. Not good start. Took long time to order bottle of wine and even longer to bring to our table even 3 people was just standing behind the bar and chatting. Ordered scallops and got 3 bits of something in breadcrumbs deep fried. Sauce was really nice but had no scallops. Waitress made some excuses but made no sense. Platter of seafood wasn’t best. Lobster was chewy and felt like it might be frozen. Prawns was tasteless and definitely didn’t taste fresh. Mussels was really nice and sauce was nice. Squid was lovely too. Sadly dish on what platter came in wasn’t heated so sauce started to solidify. After all experience wasn’t great and food had so much potential just felt it was rushed. Portion size is great. And it’s good lots of potential just needs little attention to food and better service.

Amazing place with stunningly fresh and delicious food. We shared lobster croquettes, scallops and the infamous salmon scotch egg for starters. Delicious. For mains, I had fresh sea bass with crab, tenderstem and garlic potatoes. My partner had cod cheek with bacon, tenderstem and herby mash. Amazing. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Stayed for 1 night in the appartment at the top of the building, had the best time, loved the apartment, spotlessly clean, fully equipped, lovely friendly staff would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Had food here today it excellent and the service was great

Quick and fuss free check-in. Lovely smell when we opened the door to the room. Spotlessly clean everywhere with beautiful bedding and fluffy towels. The room and bathroom were decorated simply but to a high standard. Extra touches such as good quality mugs and glasses, slate coasters, tea/coffee tray and complimentary toiletries all made the stay extra special. The hotel is right in the middle of Narberth with a choice of pubs, restaurants and takeaways all within a few minutes walking distance. We parked in the Townsmoor car park- £2 for 24 hours and a few minutes walk from the hotel. Narberth is a lovely place to stay and I highly recommend this guesthouse.

Excellent food! Great staff! Really made my mums birthday special. Everything perfect. Especially loved the lobster and snail butter. Such a special place. Highly recommend visiting this place. I stayed as-well and the rooms where fab- they even gave an extra room because there was no one else staying. So so good!!

Myself and my wife stayed at madtoms last night, we live local and have heard so many good things about the restaurant we thought we would give it a try, wow we was not disappointed .the service was exceptional and the food out of this world. The best meal we have ever tasted.

Beautiful food. I can't eat seafood but my husband loves it. We were recommended Madtom's. I had the butternut squash ravioli and my husband ordered the tuna. Sadly the restaurant had sold out of tuna and he was offered swordfish. Although he was disappointed, he said it was very tasty and the chef even came over to apologise. We had a bottle of La Petite Ferme which was very good. A lovely treat for the end of our stay in Narberth.

The sharing seafood platter was absolutely delicious and nothing was too much trouble for Tom who came to the table to explain the ingredients and cooking. The young staff were very sweet and enthusiastic. We particularly liked the fishy themed cushions! Altogether a lovely evening for a special birthday meal.

We visited Mad Tom Seafood during our holiday for a special birthday celebration. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. We had the seafood sharing platter and was plenty for 2 people + a child. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place for a special occasion!

Superb food and service and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were only too pleased to leave a tip for the staff and added it to the card payment, however, the final receipt showed that the bill had been increased by half of the tip amount and the gratuity was shown as half the intended amount. This is certainly unethical if not illegal. If I’d known this would happen then I would give the staff the tip in cash. Please review your tips policy. ******Edit in response to owner****** As stated in the original review - the food and the service was wonderful, hence the reason for wanting to leave a tip. When the receipt was given to us the issue occurred and I noticed that the tip amount had changed and was half the original amount. We did, in fact, speak to the server on shift who served us to try and get an answer as to why the tip showed as half the amount but, unfortunately the staff member was clueless as to why it had happened. This was the reason that lead to our concern and the desire to ensure that this situation be resolved and your staff receive what is due. I can understand if it was a one-off or a technical issue, however, I do not appreciate your acerbic tone in response. Before I remove this review, I would still like to understand what happened to the missing tip amount and, if this was an error, how it occurred. If your staff rely on tips then maybe their rate of pay should also be reviewed. Kind Regards.

The food and service was absolutely outstanding. The helpfulness of the chef and staff regarding one of our gluten intolerance was above and beyond. There should be more than five stars available for restaurants such as these

Avoid if you have food allergies. There was butter in the sauce despite clear discussion beforehand. They assured us that it was dairy and gluten free, but it wasn't. Apart from that food was good, but a bit pricey for the quality

Well what a horrible experience i had here on Friday 18th March. My friend booked for 4 of us in the Greenhouse. It was a cold day and asked if we could be seated inside. The lady said we are sorry but you booked outside, there was a heater inside and it was fine.. After sometime had passed she finally came out to take drink order and food order... Drinks again took some time, then our starters came again ordered drinks so she didn't forget us.. Mains came fish, and 3 steaks. I ordered Medium Rare expecting a little bit of Blood to come through as you cut it IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, so it was over cooked. I left the greenhouse and went inside with my dish while my Friends finished their meal. Time passes again she came out and asked what I'd like the steak cooked.. Everyone had finished their Food and out pops out waitress to say they wouldn't be changing my STEAK AS THE CHEF FELT IT WAS OK IN HIS OPINION... I went in to speak to him and he was Adamant that it was OK and I'd have to pay for another STEAK.. ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTED AS NOW I HAD NO FOOD AND EXPECTING TO PAY FOR ANOTHER.. we had travelled all the way from BRIDGEND on the recommendation of our friends. When they went to pay what they had.. The lady said they were short staffed, and she was having a bad Day.. We felt we had been overlooked by being outside and they had plenty room inside to seat us. The chef was Rude, and will never go back our our Friends...

An absolute gem of a restaurant, we booked an outdoor dining space in advance due to having two giant dogs on holiday with us and were all made to feel very welcome. The staff all very attentive and the food was the stuff of very pleasant memories. After two courses we had no more room for desert so will undoubtedly be back again in the future. I wouldn’t hesitate to strongly recommend this venue to anyone visiting the area. VMT to all the team.

Absolutely amazing Seafood Restaurant! We booked here for our Valentines Meal when staying in Wales. We shared the seafood platter which was delicious 🤤 A 10/10 faultless evening would highly recommend! Can also book to sit in the greenhouses outside the restaurant which are decorated with cute fairy lights for a more intimate dining experience!

We had our meal in one of the small 'Green houses' positioned in the garden at the front of the restaurant. It was a very cold evening but was fairly cosy with a heater but I would advise wearing an extra layer if dining here in the winter months. We dined here just before Christmas and it was very pretty with all the Christmas lights and we even witnessed a Christmas parade which was quite magical. The food itself was a little pricey but extremely tasty, I found them to be very accommodating when I requested my Tuna be cooked a little more. I hope we will return at a future date.

Without doubt the best meal we will have this year. The seafood platter we shared was incredible - a massive, indulgent spread of fresh seafood including lobster, prawns, squid, muscles and more, with good bread and butter to mop up our plates with. Would happily travel several hours to do it all over again.

Myself and a friend had the most delicious meal at Madtom's yesterday. I chose the chowder which was really tasty. I am gluten free and when realising they did not have any gf bread to serve with the meal one of the staff headed to a shop nearby to get some. Excellent customer service throughout, great music playlist which was very relaxing and overall a really lovely experience. Thank you! See you again one day. We had the best meal at Madtom's, the food is amazing. The girls serving are very nice. I have celiac disease and there was plenty I could eat, the chef was very willing to adapt the meals for me and even called their suppliers of a few products to double double check no gluten. We couldn't recommend this place more. Thank you Madtom's for your wonderful food and service. 😇💛👌

Exquisite seafood with a delicious Thai-inspired twist (on some dishes) We had the very generous seafood platter and it was the best seafood I can remember in a long time. Very friendly staff and fun t-shirts to buy as a souvenir. Make sure you book well in advance as it is (rightly so) very popular and it would be a shame to miss out.

What a great find . Down on holiday staying close to Narberth. Went for beautiful meal with wife. Food excellent nice staff very friendly enjoyed eating our food in 1 of the outside greenhouse. Made it very nice evening would highly recommend a visit thanks to all the staff.

I have enjoyed Mad Tom’s every time I have been. Great soft shell crab and oysters. The booking system is abysmal. You can only book by phone between 12pm and 2pm. I have phoned 5 times in succession during the appointed hours for no one to pick up the phone and to be told the voicemail is unmanned. I actually stayed in Narberth for over a week but couldn’t secure a booking. Come on Mad Tom’s - do a bit a better. Edit: I walked over after posting my original 4* review. They very kindly made a me a takeaway portion of my favourite soft shell crab small plate.
