Took my 9 year old daughter for afternoon tea and it didn’t disappoint. Have been meaning to go here for. Years and was glad we did. It’s quirky decor is all in theme with the mad hatter even down to the glass which had Alice in wonderland on. We both thought it was lovely. Our afternoon tea had plenty on and we could chose what slice of cake we wanted with it. Both the ladies were friendly and it was busy so would recommend booking especially if there is a few of you. All the food that came out looked lovely, will definitely be returning.

Got recommended this place by friends, and the place happened to have a 2 for 1 offer on for afternoon tea. It didn't disappoint , you get to select your cake from the cabinet. They cater for dietary requirements, and we found there was plenty of sandwiches and cakes for us. Will return to try the savoury afternoon tea which looked very tempting. Note, it's only small and very popular so booking is recommended.

I have been here several times with my friend. Personally I really like it, it’s quirky and it’s not massive so if you have mobility issues it could be difficult but I think if you know that you can expect it when you go inside. Parking is difficult and on both occasions I’ve been we have used my friends blue badge to park on a yellow line, as is permitted. There are some tables and chairs outside but not a lot of space. The menu items are fine and the ploughman’s and cake are in my view tasty. The kitchen area is close to the table area. I enjoy going and would take take my niece aged 5 for a quirky snack. I would though check before going if a larger group of people.

I booked afternoon tea at Mad Hatters and it was amazing, the place was so in keeping with the theme and the afternoon tea I was blown away by the price for what you get. I've paid way more or much less before. The girls were all super helpful and we all received prompt service. The food served with the afternoon tea was all home cooked and fresh and you could chose a slice of cake and it was absolutely delicious although I did have to take it home with me! Would definitely come again

Stopped off here today whilst cutting the traffic jam out on the Himley road. Thank you roadworks 👏, such a welcoming place, and a fantastic menu. I had a hankering for toasted tea cakes but they have Eggs Royal (poached eggs & salmon on a muffin) which tempted me away from the tea cakes, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was so tasty. The wife had a bacon and sausage sandwich which was amazing, the bread was so fresh too. It had tables reserved for later in the day which is encouraging and the decor was in tune with the name of the place. The only thing that knocked it down was how cold it was in there, it might be because of it being first thing but I had to mention it. Other than that it was a great visit and will be back again. 🙌🙌

We wanted somewhere local and quirky to celebrate our golden wedding. The place is certainly quirky and today very full. It was also very smoky due to something burning in the kitchen. It was very busy today with all tables occupied except for ours and so we took our seats. It was at least ten minutes before we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and a further 35 minutes before our afternoon tea arrived. There was no "sorry to keep you waiting". The afternoon was plentiful and tasty but not a lot of choice with fillings in the sandwiches cheese and pickle or ham with just one cream cheese and cucumber. Two of the scones were ok but the third was like a flat pancake. The little cakes at the top of the stand were good although the pastry slices were under done. However the tea was filling and had to take the large slices of cake home. We had difficulty in catching the eye of the waitress to get another pot of tea and to get the bill. Despite the service I still left a generous tip which would be the easiest tip the waitress has ever earned but we won't be going back. Value for money ... just!

We ordered 4 Sunday lunches for around 1pm on 22nd August. .At approx 1.10 the lunches arrived. The driver brought them to the door, (2 courses each for 4 people). Everything was packaged exactly as we had asked and I gave the agreed price to the gentleman who delivered them He declined any payment saying that he had been let down by his staff and as the meals were not up to his usual standard he would not take any money, To be honest I was a little taken aback and the man just walked off and got into his car before I had chance to say anything. We had guests so I went in and we had our meal. The food was excellent and everything was eaten and enjoyed. The only thing that was slightly different to normal was the presentation but that did not spoil our enjoyment. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to this gentleman who had not only cooked our delicious meals but had also made sure we were not let down by delivering them, for free, himself. We have had several meals and afternoon teas from this company and always found them to be excellent. I am so amazed that someone would cook, deliver and not accept payment for 4 meals and four sweets without his full staff numbers just to ensure his customers were not left high and dry. I will certainly order again and again. This type of business deserves everyone to get behind them. Once again, thank you so much. I don't know your name but I wish you every success and would, and will, recommend you to everyone who will listen. Thank you so.much. Jane

We ordered a mothers day afternoon tea today and unfortunately it was not satisfactory. The sandwiches provided were not the ones stated on their Instagram post. We recieved random amount of each sandwich like 4 ham ones and 1 cucumber. Also the cheese one didn't have any onion or chutney as stated...it was just a cheese sandwich. Also we asked for egg option sandwiches and didnt even got any at all. I dont feel this is worth £16. They shouldn't advertise one thing and provide another.

Welcomed warmly and served a very good tea in a decent pot with cups and saucers. The service is poor and slow, we arrived at the cafe and we waiting 5-10 minutes to be seated even though all tables were free. There were 4 of us. We finally sat down and only one menu on the table and it didn’t look clean or wiped down especially with Covid concerns. We ordered drinks and food, drinks came first and we waited about 40 minutes for omelettes, and egg on toast, it shouldn’t take that long for eggs to be cooked! The drinks were finished before the food came so had to order more drinks The food was ok in the end. The mad hatters is a little magical gem within Gornal village with a warming and welcoming environment full of wonder within the way its decorated and presented to visitors. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and professional and make each visit a pleasurable experience. We (the local residents of Gornal) feel blessed to have been gifted with this wonderful little outlet within our area. I've often said that a real English tea room/cafe like this is something you find whilst on holiday and is one of the things you remember most about your getaway. All other cafes for me have been abandoned since I've discovered the mad hatters. The food is cooked to perfection every time and is exquisite. I'm very fussy with some menu choices and the staff always cater for my (some may say) 'mad' choices. Highly recommended to anyone.
