Friendly and place is decorated brilliantly but very disappointed in the food choice for lactose intolerance. No cake choice at all if you are lactose free so only able to have a drink. They do soya milk.I'd have thought a place like this would cater for all as it is a family cafe.

Really rude staff Unable to take more than 2 small orders at a time Almost £3 for an apple or orange juice Not a child friendly place at all. The only bonus was it was dog friendly Won't be back

CHARGED FOR TAP WATER! Enough said. We’ve travelled the world as a family and had tap water in all locations, but never been charged anywhere, until today in my home town! The menu also says breakfast, but in reality all that is served is very minimal breakfast portions inside a cob! The place is very quirky and looks great but unfortunately paying for tap water and being mis/sold a breakfast, when really it was a breakfast cob, left a sour taste in our mouth and we would not recommend or return!

Lovely quirky cafe, staff are always very friendly and helpful! The decor is bright, bold and quirky with an Alice in wonderland theme! We’ve eaten there a few times and recently took my sister and nieces who were visiting from New Zealand and they loved it! Especially the milkshakes and waffles! Paninis are yummy and when we asked if they could make a chai latte (not on menu) Clare was more than happy to do so for us! Highly recommend !!

We visited with family yesterday. Hadn’t been to Newark for a number of years and wasn’t sure where to go. This is a lovely cafe, very quirky (just my style). Staff were lovely and the coffee was good. Knew it would be when we saw it was Stokes. Food good too. Hope to visit you again soon. Love independent cafés.

Visited mad hatters on a Saturday as my daughter and nephew have always wanted to visit due to its quirky and fun looking image, upon arriving the lady serving was very hospitable and friendly she took our orders no problem, our food arrived very shortly after and was presented lovely. My daughters milk shake looked incredible but after drinking it we identified several hairs within the drink , 5 minutes later my nephew bites onto his panini and finds more hair not only in the panini but stuck to several crisps. When approaching the staff to maker her aware she asked for the strands of hair to take to the kitchen to show the manager , unsure as to why the strands of hair needed to enter the kitchen again. When paying the bill we stated we would not pay for the items in which the hair was identified , to be graced with the manager laughing over the hair. For one it was not a funny matter I find it quite unhygienic and honestly disgusting in a food place, in the end she refunded the items that had the hair in , but honestly what we thought would be a truly fun and new experience for the kids turned out to be midioca. Lovely decor poor management and food , won't be visiting again

Wonderful decor but not a great ambience. Went for cream tea and asked for a weak pot of tea. Tea came super strong and when I asked for another it seemed to be an issue... At first she said she couldn't make it weaker, then reluctantly said she'd make another pot... And it was exactly right. I didn't dare ask for the same for my partner so we shared it and left quickly. Scones average, served cold. Shame.

I came here this afternoon with my two young daughters after swimming. We were all very hungry and thought we'd give it a try. The colours and beautiful decor looked so inviting, so I assumed they'd be child friendly. No menu on the table. You have to stand and stare at a big board on the wall. We wanted crepes, but was told the crepe machine was broken. Sure they have eggs, milk and flour and could have made some? I asked for a child's menu but they didn't have one, so I asked if they'd make a half jacket potato for my five year old but they couldn't do that. So I ordered one adult sized jacket potato for my five year old and two year old to share and a sandwich for myself. It came to 18 pounds. They'd charged me for two jacket potato's and a sandwich. Once I'd had time to query this it was too late and the food all came out. The manager was called over and you'd think I'd just asked them to split the atom. It took ages for them to figure out how to refund me. I asked for a babychino (frothy warm milk) for my two year old and the waitress was about to give her a shot of cappuccino! The food was okay. No dressing on the salad and the cheese was that heap, plastic orange grated stuff. The cutlery was adult sized, so it was tricky especially for my two year old to eat with. My recently potty trained toddler needed a wee but the toilets didn't have a toddler seat (about five quid so wouldn't put them out of business to get one). So I had to hold my terrified daughter above the seat as she tried to go. There was a manky damp towel to dry hands on. I was going to order desert but just don't think the waitress could have handled it. And we just all wanted to leave! The waitress was very young, clearly inexperienced and not trained up properly. Tje chef also looked about 17. No fault of theres, the manager is to blame here. Wouldn't advise bringing young children here and unless you're popping in for tea and cake then it's best to avoid! Really disappointing.

We called in for breakfast and was expecting it to be perfect but it was not too good. The plates were cold. Food was like warm eggs were runny and slimey.and mushrooms were tinned and very watery. We were given the wrong drinks and had to go the the counter to ask for brown sauce. The food was put on the table and we were not asked if we wanted anything else. We were not very impressed with this cafe. The main thing was luke warm food and not great quality. if the plates were warmed this could be avoided in.the future. Sorry we don't normally do bad reviews but if is important we give our feedback to help improve

We have visited this tearoom twice and on both occasions the staff were friendly and welcoming. The coffee is some of the best I've tasted & the cakes are lovely. Also they make our dog very welcome too. I would give it more stars if I could!

We had tea for two served in the rear courtyard. Clean tables & we had a full China teapot to pour into China tea cups. Very nice! Delightful ladies attended our needs. Clean toilet. Thank you for the welcome.

The food was ok, but the bacon tasted like cardboard and wasn’t very welcoming & the portions are Not the best as you do pay a bit for a Breakfast. I would go next door to the butchers I think it would make the meat better quality.

Went here on the Saturday, table of two. Drinks were the same price as rest of the complex, food was expensive but I would have eaten 60 of those cheeseburgers if I had the capacity to do so. The lad that served us, Jack M, was a legend and made sure everything went smoothly, food came out quickly, Great night 🔥

Very nice pub indeed. Only popped in for a coffee but will probably return as lovely views of the river.
