This cafe appears to have new ownership and although food was good the prices were definitely in line with London rather than Devon. Double bacon bap was basically 2 pieces of bacon on average size bap/roll £8, sandwiches £10.00. It's a shame it's becoming London on sea.

Had lunch here today. Tasty food, lovely fresh fish and the sausages easily the best we’ve tasted in a long time. Good sized portions. Excellent service. Reasonable prices. Would recommend.

Had a good lunch, they were really helpful despite being incredibly busy to seat us and accommodate our two Labradors (who take up a fair bit of space) chicken brought out for the dogs and a bowl of fresh water. Great service and very friendly staff

We popped in for coffee and cake (delicious) late on Regatta day. The staff were tired having been very busy and put the closed sign up. After about 10 minutes there was a knock on the door and a person saying they were diabetic and please could they have some food? They were allowed in and given a meal. What a kind gesture. Well done the Mad Hatter!!

Food was overpriced, bland and pretty tasteless, got my order wrong and then tried to say it was my fault. Won't be back.

Really enjoyed my full breakfast. I’m a fussy eater and struggle with how my food is cooked but it was done just how I like it.

Great coffee and hot chocolate, both made exactly as we wanted them, and at a reasonable price. The cakes looked amazing - only sorry we didn't have room to try them as we'd not long had breakfast!

I wanted a cream tea and what a disappointment this place was. £7.95 for a tiny scone, cream, jam and tea. If youre going to charge that much you should be providing something better! They've put so many tables in there, it's very cramped and busy. Disappointing.

Ordered a cream tea and an additional pot of tea - never received the pot of tea and yet were still charged for it. No answer when called the owners to query this. Cream tea was of poor quality (cream and jam not from Devon, cream in a plastic pre-packaged pot). Very disappointing experience and in future will go elsewhere.

A friend and I went in this weekend for some brunch, I ordered a full English and as the menu confirmed it was an option, I opted to pay for an extra hash brown and sausage. The owner who took our order would not let me buy the extra sausage. I pointed out it was an option on the menu and she told me It was very expensive and I would not be able to eat it all so I ended up just having the extra hash brown. When she came back to see I had finished it all, she made a comment about how the sausages were very big and I replied I could have done with the extra one I asked to buy, to which she responded that most people wouldn’t have been able to eat all that… The food we had was lovely but unfortunately due to the experience with the owner it somewhat ruined it and we won’t be returning. As it was an option on the menu to buy an extra sausage, due to the comments she made and the tone they were made in, it left us feeling like she was trying to be rude.

Called in here for a coffee and cake, ended up having a lovely beans on toast, wife had a full English (we also bought cake to take away). There is a large selection of cakes and bakes to choose from as well as a decent menu; there is a good selection of gluten free cakes as well. The place is quite large downstairs and decorated in a fun manner, wheel chair and buggy access is okay for the seating area; you won’t be able to use the loos here though as they are up a set of narrow stairs. The food was good, the cakes (when we ate them later) were lovely! The coffee was also good. Based on my experience I would be happy to recommend a stop here for a bite to eat. I’m sure everyone will find something they like; there is certainly a lot to choose from!

Absolutely delightful experience at The Mad Hatter! I thoroughly enjoyed their tuna jacket potato, which was not only delicious but also allergy-friendly. The ambiance was cozy, and the staff was incredibly accommodating. Five stars for great food and excellent service!

I have been here twice and on both occasions who I believe is the owner/manager was horrible to her staff, shouting at one lady both times I had been here just made it uncomfortable and I felt awful for the waitress she was doing her best!! First time I went in I had a jacket potato which was very good value for money, was really nice, iced latte was gorgeous! Second time I had a panini, nothing special and my partner didn’t get what he asked for, it was dry and just not as good as when I came in before. Such a shame as could be a lovely place just shame about the manager/owner!!!

Served a piece of fudge cake that was very stale and inedible. When we paid for our drinks and flapjack (which was fine) they were totally disinterested. Cake should be fresh not dried out from sitting in a cabinet for too long!! Could not recommend.

Not impressed. I had a Ploughman’s. Grated cheese. Ham was ok. Pickle was bit of sweet pickle and some silverskin onions. Salad sliced thickly with large pieces of onion. Shop bought coleslaw. 2 slices of nondescript bread and butter.. Badly in need of a makeover. Yesterday had takeout Bakewell slice. It was delicious but I got the bit with hardly any toasted almonds. Other pieces were better presented. Given the time of year, & how quiet they were I would expect better. If I were them I would hope for future custom. I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was. I’d be happy to pay for food with a bit of thought to presentation. The surroundings were perfect. I should imagine they are busy in the Summer because of this decor. I would pare down the menu and do really good food, especially in Winter to keep costs down. (3 soups were on the menu. I did not try these.) Staff indifferent. Again, serving the public is not easy, but you need to be welcoming in this environment.

Avoid avoid avoid. Over priced, inconsistent cake portions (we ordered 3, all came as different sizes). The cakes were consistent in so far as all had a thick, chewy, cleggy consistency. Service was slow and it was not busy. Having now read other reviews and based on our experience, lack of customers is unsurprising.

Purchased two takeaway sandwiches each costing £5.99. Sandwich fillings were tasty and plentiful, the bread however was cheap and nasty. At this price you expect both the fillings and bread to be of decent quality. Disappointing.
