Macy Browns in Darlington

Had a fun night here recently - will definitely be back!

We had a Macy's in Guisborough until 2yrs ago and my favourite cocktail ever was an Amaretto Frost so as we were in Darlington for a night out we went in for one but its not on the cocktail menu anymore😔, but a lovely barman made me one anyway from memory, much appreciated, it was gorgeous, he didn't have to so it was very nice of him👍👏👏

31.10.23. Travelled especially to Macy Browns in Darlington as the one in Thirsk is closed. Got there only to find it is shut down completely. Someone should put that on the website.

I am a local business owner here in Darlington. My family and I had been for a wonderful meal and decided to visit Macy Browns for a couple of drinks before going home. We will never return. A bar tender was so agressive, abusive, vile and threatning this certainly is not a place for a family. He actually behave like a wild animal. I personally have never in my life been spoken to in this way or felt so intimidated. A complete disgrace to the establishment.

Best pancakes I’ve ever had in a café as well as the best Carmel latte I think I will ever taste. My compliments to the chef.

By far the best breakfast we've ever had the taste the quality we all really enjoyed it and the service was spot on! Will definately be going back there again!

Avoid downstairs at all costs, not only were there creepy little flies on spilt drinks on leather sofas but when we took my cocktail back as it tasting like water and coke. (Orderd long island ice tea. The bar man refused to change it or add a dash more spirit, but he actually took out my straw , tasted it told me he could taste alcohol and stuck it back in my drink.......absolutely disgusting behavior in the midst of a pandemic.....no apology no refund........Will not be coming again

Never been to a cocktail bar before so was apprehensive about what to expect. It was busy but not too crowded and was a pleasant experience with a range of drinks available

It was literally filled with 15/16 year olds with fake ID’s, every single table was sticky and disgusting, it’s not hard to clean the table when a party leaves?? As we were going in (about 11pm) there was a girl who was being refused entry by the bouncer for seemingly no reason and he was quite physical with her which should’ve been a massive red flag to us, we assumed she was too drunk but she didn’t seem it. The toilets were a mess and the bar staff didn’t seem properly trained, it overall took so long to get the drinks and just generally such a childish atmosphere

The doorstaff bullied and manhandled me outside this bar for no obvious reason. I am an 18 year old girl and these are the marks showing up the next morning see pictures attached. I was left in outside by myself in the dark and in the rain. On a separate note the bar is extremely tacky and chavy. You'll know what I mean if your used to drinking in boujee places and unfortunate enough to stumble across Macy browns.

The door staff at this venue are unprofessional and have an aggressive approach to dealing with its customers. Safety is not a priority at this venue and I would not recommend this place to friends/family or anyone!! I felt uncomfortable the entire time I was there - it is not a place for women!! Stay away!

Gorgeously decorated and the cocktail menu is amazing. Really different types of cocktails than you usually get and served in lovely glass or earthenware.

Watered cocktails drowning in ice. I couldnt see all the ice as it was in a coloured mug and passion fruit and mint covering top. I did complain to manager but was told if i didnt like it i know where the door is! Nice touch from a manager who obviously has no customer service skills what so ever!

Tried to go in for drinks at 5pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Husband wearing smart shirts and a shirt. Refused entry because he wasn’t wearing long trousers! Cruise ships have less stringent rules !! Very disappointed . Bouncer didnt agree with rules and questioned management on our behalf but still no go. Spent our money elsewhere and won’t be returning.

I turned up to Macy Browns for a quiet drink or 2 with a friend around 12:30. When I approached the entry, the bouncer denied me access into the establishment due to wearing shorts. These were smart chino shorts. I replied to the bouncer saying “What if I was a female wearing a skirt?” He replied: “Well you would get in, wouldn’t you” If I had sports shorts (Adidas, Nike) on, I would get this, but I was smartly dressed throughout the day as it was a hot day. It’s about time Macy Browns changed their pointless dress code.

Poor service upon entering, told we could only have table for an hour as it was reserved yet once seated we noticed 4 empty tables around us, obviously they are keeping there options open. Guy wasn't very amicable on the front entrance. May I suggest your meet and greet guy is upgraded if you want to remain in business. Will not be frequenting this establishment again.

After paying £25 deposit I would expect to be able to drink cocktails to this value! Service was slow and in the end had to order 2 drinks and a shot at a time, which took 15 mins to turn up and then was hassled to drink up and leave in 15 mins! . Ok we were an older aged group of ladies but we noticed that the younger girl groups were not harassed to leave! So we were pushed out with our drinks in plastic cups after a 15 minute argument with ‘The Manager’. Toilets had no toilet paper and I thought plastic straws were banned in October 2020??? Will never ever go back.

Cocktails from here are unreal. Haven’t tried any food so cannot comment on that, staff are super nice. Minus 1 star due to the woman that tries to sell things in the toilets. It’s just weird 😅

Attentive service... Pity about the non alcoholic cocktails

The inside is decorated okay, although some strange slogans on the walls including “water contains bacteria” and “don’t f*** with the DJ.” It took 30 minutes just to get 2 cocktails and the music was blaring so loudly I couldn’t hear what my partner was saying. I don’t mind loud music at the weekend but it was 7pm on a Wednesday.

It was a Wednesday night and we happened upon a Latino night. It was brilliant, fantastic music and some accomplished dancers doing salsa (I think). A really good atmosphere so would go here again. The only negative was that a small diet draft coke is £2 but compare it to an alcoholic drink £2.95 for a spirit plus mixer, it makes the diet coke expensive.

This place needs avoiding it is a joke the guy behind the counter blatantly got a vodka bottle which was quarter full then full it with water that is totally ridiculous when you pay a fortune for drinks then to give you water when I mentioned it he just said sorry I can't hear you and continued serving it to people when I told the customer they were getting served water they took the bottle away and put a new one there they must of been doing it a while I won't be returning drink is expensive enough

Good cocktails, wide range of drinks available, prices are very reasonable and often have drinks offers on. Would recommend if you’re looking for nice drinks at a good price.

Avoid unless you want unprovoked trouble. I've had a negative experience here previously (a stool was thrown by one patron at another and my friend was warned by the bar staff to keep our drinks closer as "somebody might slip something into them"... ) but our group ended up here on a Friday night, and I hoped that the previous incident was an isolated one. On the way back from the toilet, one of our group was punched in the face by a drunken patron on the premise of "knocking into him". Multiple friends of this sub human then started to throw punches at the unsuspecting member of our group. The bouncers ejected the guy who was innocently returning to his friends, for being punched, seemingly on the grounds that the lad who was being attacked by a group of angry drunken men was easier to eject. Disgusting cowardice. The place itself plays cheesy music that is easy to enjoy, the bar staff are quite quick to serve but the drinks are just standard fare and somewhat overpriced. A three star bar, with one star "security" and zero star clientele. Avoid unless you're the kind of person who is looking for an altercation on a night out. Do not think "I'll be okay. I'll just keep to myself and not cause trouble", this place is trouble, consistently, and should be avoided by everybody. Avoid.

DJ was far too loud and the mens toilet was a disgrace.

It was full of kids. The music was way to loud to even talk the bar was 5 deep constantly and the women's toilets were blocked. There was men working in the men's toilets. Drinks spilled all over the floor and half the lights were broken in the seating area so it was overly dark! Haha the drinks were alright though!

New Italian in town. Lovely atmosphere fabulous food and a warm welcome. We will definitely be back .

Went for Sunday dinner with a group of friends, the veg came cold and the beef was fatty sent the veg back they brought it back warmed up. Would not recommend and would not go back

Sunday dinner OK nothing special

Me and my fiancé enjoyed a meal and a sharing cocktail tonight, everything has been perfect, the staff, the food, everything, can not rate this place high enough, we had the Mai Tai sharing cocktail and it was beautiful, we had the dirty nachos and they were insane, my better half had the parmo burger and again perfect, I had the cajun chicken wrap, again perfect, also music was banging, literally cant say a bad word about this place.

Visited here last night for an evening with my partner. The cocktail sharer was presented beautiful and tasted gorgeous however the food let us down. The sharing starter was nice however the chicken wrap was tough and tasteless. Would definitely visit again but wouldn’t recommend going for food definitely more of a bar than restaurant.

Great bar in the centre of town friendly staff and good atmosphere

First time here. Good and friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed the jukebox style mix of music. However, there no is no excuse for blocked and non working toilets in the ladies bathroom. The cistern is broken, get yourselves down to B&Q, buy a bog for £50 and pay another £50 to plumb it in. It's not hard.

Not my usual venue, this was my son and partner's choice on a Thurs night. The staff were very friendly and having had a pint across the road it was G&T's with the meal.We had a sharing platter to start with, nachos etc and I have to say it was the first time I've had them and enjoyed them, tasted great.We had a lovely meal but probably aimed at the older generation! Oh did I say that?I'd go again though but not necessarily my first choice

We visited on a Friday night for drinks and food. The cocktail was lovely. The loaded nachos were really nice (burnt ends were lovely), however, we thought the burgers were pretty average. The service also was okay, the lads behind the bar seemed lovely and helpful but there was only us and two more tables when we went in yet we were waiting for a really long time. Also, it was around 6:30/7 when we went in and the tables were sticky (we actually sat at 2 different tables but both were the same). Overall, we did enjoy our visit and would go back especially for the cocktails but for somewhere to have a nice meal, in my opinion, it still needs some improvements (especially for the price you pay) particularly; the cleanliness, waiting time and main meal standard.

My partner and i went to Macys for a cocktail. He grabbed a table and perused the menu whilst i went to the ladies room..as i arrived back at the table he informed we were leaving. The girl behind the bar was rude. And pulling faces at him for not ordering. She stated loudly you can come order when your ready...he explained im waiting for someone..she burst out laughing pulled funny faces and repeated...you can order now.. needless to say we left without ordering...immature bar staff. Customer service...training required. Wont be visiting again .

Lovely food with some excellent offers. Loaded nachos are fantastic. Lovely cocktails and friendly staff. Quite often but one get one free or toss the coin to get it half price. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful cocktail bar. Love the rustic decoration, staff are so fast and nice. Cocktails are perfect. Only fault is standard drinks like vodka and come are a bit expensive so you might as well spend that tiny bit extra for a full cocktail.

This review is in no way a review as such but please be aware a member of our party had her drinks spiked here Friday 2nd February 2017.

Visited new years eve for first time. Nice little bar. Bought a bottle of grey goose vodka and got it brought over with an ice bucket and ice...a jug of our choice of mixer.... we asked for wedges of lime and got a plate with lime lemon blueberries and strawberries. When we needed more mixer we just went to the bar and got it free. Nice little bar..nice music... only downside was at new years eve they closed at 11.30 which we were told was due to their license.... shame

Fantastic cocktails and delicious food. Loads of offers on food and drinks throughout the week so excellent value for money. The loaded nachos are delicious so are the burgers well worth a visit

Popped in here on Christmas Eve with the wife who used to live in the area. Struggling for somewhere to go for a good burger, we found this place. Ordered the beef cake burger (double) and was very impressed. Sometimes these burgers can be packed with too much filling and hard to eat. This was spot on though. Wife had the southern fried burger and loved it. Coleslaw on the side was a good touch. Overall a great little place and gutted I’ve not been in here before, after visiting for many years.

The place itself is great and the cocktails were excellent but the food was the worst I have tasted for a long time. The chips were cold and my wrap was so mushy it was inedible. My partners ‘them bones’ was so fatty it was the first time in 25 years he didn’t finish his meal. Such a disappointment.

Myself & a friend visited Macy Browns last night & were not disappointed. The atmosphere was amazing, the cocktail selection fantastic & the staff are an asset to the company. Our barman (sorry didn't catch his name - but was tall, dark haired with a foreign accent) was amazing, you can tell he really enjoys his job. After our first cocktail he asked us to let him make a random cocktail up for us based on our preferences - prefer sweet or sour cocktail/favourite spirit etc. Both were incredible! So we allowed him to do the same with our next order which was Gin - now that's a proper bar & the barman clearly was very experienced and knowledgable about alcohol!We were both very impressed & thanks to him, we'll be visiting again.

Loving this new venue, in a great location, fab atmosphere, good tunes, friendly bar staff and excellent cocktails, even better if you hit Happy Hour and win on Heads or Tails. Just what Darlington needs, definately worth a visit..

Went for Sunday lunch. There was an offer on 2 for 19.95 with a wine or beer. Fresh food not frozen. Homemade giant Yorkshire. Wouldn't be to everyone's taste granted but we all loved it. Just might say some people might find it odd having mushy peas. Would recommend.

Had Sunday dinner it was great .plenty of beef and lovely vegetables.good value will go again soon.

We've been in need of a place like this in Darlington for years! Perfect atmosphere, cocktails are gorgeous and good value for money.

I went here last night for the first time and I have to say, I am impressed.They were only serving drinks as it was Friday night, but that didn't matter to us. They have an excellent array of drinks, including some gorgeous cocktails. The interior is really well done and there was a a fantastic atmosphere. I also love the feel of the place and the outfits the bar men wear (I love braces and bow ties!)My only slight niggle was the length of time it took to get served. There were three barman on and they were really up against it, especially having to make so many cocktails. A chap kindly let me go before him, I got my drink, walked back to my seat and almost finished it by the time the guy actually walked away with his drinks... Hopefully this is just some teething issues and the staffing levels will increase. I would definitely go back, it really is a great place!

Without a doubt the best burger I have had. Real taste of America bbq with all the slow cooked meat ! Would definitely recommend
