Macy Browns in Scarborough

What a Turnaround! Simply Outstanding! Wow! What a change for the better. I visited last year under the previous ownership and was honestly shocked by the experience. Decided to give it another chance today and I couldn’t be happier that I did. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and attentive. The cocktails were fantastic, and the service was truly second to none. Coming from a hospitality background myself, I know how rare it is to find a team that genuinely cares about the guest experience. Speaking with the staff during our visit, I was so impressed by how proud they were of their company and what they offer. A special shout-out to Reva, Mike and Lexi. All were absolute standouts! We’re already planning to return tomorrow, and many more times this year. Thank you for making our stay in Whitby such a lovely one!

We had booked in for our anniversary for a pre-meal drink at another restaurant. When walking up the stairs the bouncer told us that it was fully booked which was confusing as we had booked a table and he never asked. We were then seated and the waitress was more than accommodating and added two more seats so 2 more guests could join. Within 5 minutes of being seated we had two waitresses ask if we would like drinks but had said to both we was waiting for 2 more to arrive ( we appreciated the quickness of service during this period however showed poor communication between them). When our other guests arrived we were waiting 15 minutes to order drinks and felt like we were now forgotten about. Other tables were also having to go to bar to order drinks, which was confusing as it appeared it was table service. Also when ordering one of our party asked for a tommy’s margarita, which given we were in a cocktail bar we would have expected waitress/bar staff to know how to make. ( We understand if staff were new.) Overall, for one of the only cocktail bars in Whitby we were expecting a better experience than we did as you have an advantage to have an upmarket bar but don’t. Spending £10 each for a cocktail to then have very poor service doesn’t seem to match. Also just to note on the mocktail menu a cocktail has an ingredient called blue curaçao was this definitely an alcoholic free liqueur? As it wasn’t specified on the menu but from bar experience it definitely contains alcohol?

Not a good experience on a busy Saturday evening…… they apparently ran out of Strawberry Daiquiri on a bank holiday Saturday. Not good planning from a management perspective and the service was very poor. Wouldn’t recommend this establishment for drinking.

Had the best spicy margarita I’ve ever had!!! Asked for 10/10 out of spice and the barman delivered! The waitress was so friendly and helpful! Lovely place with fabulous atmosphere - will return to visit Lexi & Mike alone! A must visit when you’re in Whitby! 🥂💜

Didn't eat so can't comment on food, cocktails were amazing, the service is good and the atmosphere is good. Only downside which they don't make you aware until paying is they charge a £3 service charge, which I'm assuming is because of table service but we were quite happy to go to the bar.

We can’t comment on the food as we only came for drinks. But the menu has a great choice and something we would try in the future. Service was great, cannot fault all the friendly staff including the security staff who brought us in and showed us to our table. Drinks were great and the cocktail menu had a large variety, they were presented well and tasted amazing. Highly recommend a visit when in Whitby and we will certainly be back again!

Absolutely disgusting, booked in advance and turned up to be told my booking was for 2 hours later when the email they sent me to confirm clearly shows 8:00. Told me I should’ve booked online when I did. Absolutely vile bouncers on door, disgusting customer service. I would never return here.

Absolutely gutted that Macey browns is under new management. The service and cocktails were disappointing compared to the previous visits. Will not be returning any time soon

Came for a late drink as never been before. Good vibe, friendly staff and would go again.

Appauling service, made to move table after being seated and when we said we were happy where we were the doorman was sent over to MAKE SURE we moved. Apparently the person who'd seated us had made a mistake. They did exactly the same to the next table to us. As we were leaving we heard the doormen saying that's how you clear a room. Do not go to macey browns, not a nice place at all.

Service a little slow but nice cocktail

We were in here on our last visit to Whitby and loved this cocktail bar, however I can only assume it has changed hands , I was in there two days ago with my wife and daughter and grand son, expensive drinks and very average cocktails, when I paid I was over charged, when I questioned this I was told there was a service charge added on, I didn't have a problem with a service charge as long as you are made aware of this when you order, the guy did refund the charge, the place had no atmosphere and only another two couples in.

me and my boyfriend have recently been when we spent a day in whitby. honestly was so amazed with the choice of cocktails being a bartender myself, definitely worth the title ‘luxury’. i ordered the meatball marinara and my boyfriend ordered the chicken wrap, we both really enjoyed it, and the interior is absolutely stunning, especially the bar. even though it was quiet i didn’t mind at all as we could talk to each other easily. service was great, very polite and accommodating, will be back again if we’re in whitby! :)

Cocktail bar serving quick bites and Tapas style food. Tried a few Tapas dishes, food was nice but poor value. Drinks also expensive. OK really.

We came at yesterday evening with 4 friends. It is very busy bar . But they gave awesome service with very good cocktails and food. Very cute waiter in bar with friendly with customer. At last we will visit again and again .

Visited tonight, really good prices for tapas and cocktails... not as cheap as some but good measure. On the balcony nice views over the harbour though be wary of seagulls and your food.

Top place always, although they've got rid of tall tables. Cocktails great and we were looked after splendidly by Natasha - attentative, friendly and soooo knowledgeable about the menu. Deffo recommend.

First time visit and not what I was expecting. I had thought Macy Browns would have been a touch pretentious and expensive but by concerns were completely unfounded. Our drinks, a pint of Madri and a Hawaiian moctail were very reasonably priced and served at our outside balcony table by a very polite, friendly and efficient young waitress. It was too early for us to eat but on perusing their menu I was surprised to see the dishes on it were very reasonably priced, in fact far more reasonable than most other places in Whitby. All roung excellent experience and we shall without doubt return on our next trip to Whitby.

We were a big group, couples, just called in for 1 after a wet walk, well, 3 hours later, a thoroughly enjoyed impromptu Saturday afternoon. What a team of staff, very impressed, we had great customer service, which is why we stayed, (they’re not daft) that and the great cocktails. Special shout out to the waitress (sorry I didn’t get your name), she is exceptional at her job, an impressive attentive upseller! Thank you guys, we have been before, would recommend and return.

Partner and I visit here every year when we stay in whitby, I love a cocktail and macy browns never disappoints. On this occasion we wanted an afternoon snack and decided to order the meatballs and cheesey chips, wow soooo tasty! First time eating here and will definitely be eating here again! Meatballs and cheesey chips were both super yummy. Our go to cocktails are the long island and the raspberry zombie.

Wouldn’t give 1 star if I didn’t have to, 4 drinks 1 Vodka & cranberry juice, 1 Jack Daniel’s & coke, 1 Bacardi & orange juice & 1 Vodka & coke, £29.09 coke was flat the Jack Daniel’s & coke didn’t even get drunk because it tasted awful, the vodka & coke tasted awful the coke was flat, extortionate prices won’t be going there again

This is a great cocktail and food bar. Visited over the bank holiday and wasn't sure on where to eat in the evening. We opted to go here because they do a tapas style menu so you can try a bit of everything. Food was good quality and the service was very good. Cocktails are good with great atmosphere too!

Got off to a bad start in this place. The door staff are appalling. They don't have any understanding of what their job is. Their first task is to welcome guests - they totally failed. If you want cocktails, you will get better service and pay half the price somewhere else.

I've been drinking cocktails for 20 years and this was without a doubt the best one I've ever had! I had it 3 times to make sure, and each time service was quick and the drink was exceptional, I need the recipe / quantities for this milky way drink!

We’ve been to Macy browns a few times over the past few years. Sometimes days on the trot whilst up in Whitby for a seaside break. The Service and Food is always incredible and they allow friendly dogs out on the balcony. We came again the other day and was a bit unsure due to the rain. Soon as we arrived we was welcomed in and shown to our seats outside. They opened up the canopy for us, wipes down our seats. Turned on the heating and brought my fella a cushion for his tush. Us being the only insanse people to sit outside in the cold and rain. (100% our choice because of the dogs) they kept coming outside to check on us. Kept the cocktails flowing and had a laugh and a joke with us. The staff were amazing and we didn’t feel isolated one bit. The food was hot when served and the drinks were delicious and plenty to choose from. We had such a lovely night at Macy’s and when we drive 3 hours to Whitby we always can’t wait to go back for dinner/breakfast again. Amazing place to go to and the staff are fantastic! We will definitely see you again soon 😊

We didn't know what to expect as it was a random visit at the end of a busy day. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent.

Cute place with nice decor. The food was very good we enjoyed everything. Burgers and the loaded cheesy fries are the best I've ever had! I wasn't expecting it to be that good. The atmosphere is good. The male waiters are a bit serious and not very chatty. Female waiters friendly.

When we turned up to get a drink it was closed. Text the number on the website and didn't get a reply until 4 days later. By which point we had gone gome, however we were advised that they close on Mondays and Tuesdays, which was posted on Facebook. I don't have facebook anymore and many others may not have it, so how would we have known. Maybe a new sign up outside on the gates up to the bar would be a good idea for those who don't have social media. As Google showed open every day. Once we did finally visit, the cocktails were awesome , food was good, felt it was pricey but as a treat it was fine. I couldn't afford that all the time. A nice balcony however thr weather was a little wet so sat indoors which was beautiful

We ate at Macy Brown's twice. When staying in Whitby for one week. The food was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended you visit for food and drinks.

We were told by a work colleague about this place, arrived on our wedding anniversary evening, had a couple of cocktails each then ordered a seafood platter between the 2 of us. Food was beautiful, staff were extremely friendly and service was brilliant! We sat outside also on the veranda with heaters. Would highly recommend

All the time coming to whitby and we have never been in here. We was on our last night so called in as the door security escorted us upstairs to the waiting staff and the to our table in this upmarket venue. We started off just going for a drink but then decided to eat, we shared small plates of nachos at £6, Parmo chicken & cheese bites at £6.50, halloumi fries at £6.50 and hummus at £4.50 washed down with a bottle of Pinot Grigio at £18.95. They add a service charge of 10% which can be removed but it is all waiter- waitress service to your table and the food was all delicious.

Terrible experience, girl who served us was miserable, didn't smile or make eye contact, misplaced our food order wich we waited almost an hr for so didn't get as our parking was running out. Senior staff member was lovely, apologised, but no apology from the girl/server who made the mistake and even smirked as we left. Disgraceful as prices wernt cheap, Won't be coming back again!

We popped in for a quick drink, got given a seat on the outside balcony which was nice, I had a cocktail which was lovely, table service so no queuing at the bar, didn’t have food but would try it next time as it looked good.

Lovely decoration, great if meat eater, asked for veggie sausage and nearly broke my teeth on them 🤣🤣. More expensive that any other breakfast we had during our stay too. One waitress was quite rude and offish with us so won't be going back in a hurry.

Spotted this place from the road on a walkabout for food, went upstairs to be met at the door by would I would describe as a bouncer/floor manager, its hard to tell, left us with a sense of unease, we were given option of outside or in, chose outside but it proved to be a bit cramped so we moved back inside. We ordered drinks and food after about ten minutes, the server had such an unintrested manner along with all the other staff, no connection. Setting was nice inside but very loud with customers and children shouting over each other, most of the people in there looked liked they had had too many cocktails and beer, which at their prices would suggest the locals are minted. The food took ages to come and was not that special after the wait, we left about a third of it as it all tasted like it was out of a jar, even the people sat next to us commented how long we had to wait. We finished what we could manage and called it a day, the emotionless staff took payment and had sneeked in a 10% service charge which they didnt mention at any point and I thought after this was a good way of getting a tip for dull service. This place is struggling to decide if it is a cocktail lounge or a resturant, it is a bit too pokey to be both in my opinion. Im sure a lot of the locals love it here but perhaps they dont have many options to chose from. I like to tip well for great service and great food but I will give you! a tip, walk on by and try somewhere else.

Visited several times during our short trip to Whitby- the delicious cocktails kept drawing us back! The food is lovely too, my burger was great and the chips were lovely. The cocktails were made fresh by the talented bar staff and the servers were extremely attentive, chatty and friendly. The decor is gorgeous and it really felt like a treat to be there.
