Another excellent experience here. Attended a local event that was sold out and we couldn’t thank Vick and Wayne enough. Buffet was delicious and plentiful. Vick accommodated for all dietary requirements and hosted the village event professionally, welcoming all members of the parish, going over and beyond. It was a massive success and everyone said how fantastic the food was and how much they enjoyed the evening. Thanks for hosting - looking forward to coming to the pub again.

Staying at the hotel next door for a wedding but popped in the mackworth arms for drinks however food smelt so good decided to have a meal first. It didn’t disappoint! Pub is so very cosy and welcoming. All the staff were so accommodating when we hadn’t booked but they fitted us in. Food was clearly homemade and delicious! We will be back soon to sample more.

Rude and obnoxious landlady. Curry came with a clump of bone dry over cooked rice. She took the plate away as I'm taking a mouthful. The attitude and abruptness might be needed in a roudy bar, but it definitely doesn't suit this environment. Really rude and brash. Do not go here for food.

I don’t normally comment on here but felt the need to keep an eye out for a poor review from the obnoxious ladies (Jennifer D) who were sat next to me on Sunday and waited for it to land before adding my comments… As soon as they sat down their topic of conversation was about times and places where they’ve complained in restaurants in the past and that the only time one of them had help her tongue was when she was on a date! I even called it to my partner that ‘I bet them two will end up complaining’ and that was before they had even ordered their meals When the starters arrived they devoured them both and then decided to complain about the number of prawns! When asked by the waitress if everything was ok with their main meal, they both said it was nice, only to then complain later on! I wonder if the above was also caught on camera??? To summarise we had a lovely meal and I strongly advise that the comments of Jennifer D are ignored if you are considering visiting the Machworth. As for being rude, I would say that respect is earned and these pair of ladies didn’t deserve to be shown any respect when it was obvious they were out searching for a free lunch! It’s just sad that reviews like theirs doesn’t portray a true reflection but can affect an establishments reputation. Once again, we had a lovely meal… keep up the good work ‘Team Mackworth’

If I could give a zero start I would but unfortunately I am made to put one, Firstly £18 for a starter and roast, Friends prawn cocktail 3 small prawns, She told by the chopsy landlady about it and was told what do you expect for £3 Which took ages to be brought out, Other tables except one had food and or finished, it was very quiet in there, and that's prob why as the owner is chopsy, Took and hour for the dinner to come out at 3.30 we arrived at 2:30. I mentioned my beef is stiff and hard I showed her by trying to cut it, it was cheep piece of brisket and was a bad cut clearly, So I tried to cut it and it wouldn't cut, she then told me I am not cutting it properly, I then tried to pull it apart with the knife and fork, Didn't cut, She goes I get you some more beef, I said can you take that bit of beef away which was a 3rd She came back out of the kitchen after us hearing them slag us off, Put your meat on there, as I lifted the meat off my plate she goes and I'm not giving you anymore meat, I was happy to just have another portion the same size as what she was taking away but she bluntly said that, She then said I will take £3 off your meal, considering the meat is the most expensive item and it's £15 roast dinner, When paying she then wanted to continue being rude, And even made an inuendo to the people on the next table about us complaining which we heard. No opolgy nothing Just mouthy and opinionated Advertise topside beef but dished up cheap brisket instead. She told us it was brisket. Now I can see what would a busy Sunday lunch sitting was 80% empty clearly shows that people don't go this venue. Looking at the reviews about this place and about the landlady it's clear we are not alone, And if she wants to counter act a message I got the video of it happening which she didn't realise I was doing so she can't fib we are in the right and she is a chopsy unprofessional owner that sabotaged our experience, she took the money and didn't even say thanks, If you want a decent meal and tidy service this place isn't where you would get that from,

We called into the pub on a Friday night while staying in the area over the weekend. We were so impressed with the food we returned again on the Saturday night. Over the two nights we had tried the gammon, burger, homemade curry and the grilled chicken. We also squeezed in a waffle for dessert. The food is amazing and we are already planning on when we can visit again. The staff were very friendly. Thank you to Victoria and Wayne for making us feel welcome. Would eat here again and hear from diners that the Sunday dinner is very good!

We decided to try a different pub for a meal just for a change , we were not disappointed with our choice, evidently the pub only does meals Thursday to Sunday, we were just lucky it was Thursday, so we ordered. I had a Gammon which was superb not salty or skinny it came with decent chips mushrooms 3 tomatoes egg and pineapple with also a little rocket and cucumber this has to be the very best gammon meal I have ever had, my wife had the butterfly chicken with mushroom sauce with chips and a side salad of rocket tomatoes etc , needless to say her meal was very well received too. The restaurant area was a very pleasant place to be just adjacent to the main bar area on a slightly raised level , I would heartily recommend this pub for the meals , Thursday is quite quiet I cannot vouch for the quiet atmosphere Friday onwards though as it surely will be far busier

I went to the Mackworth with some mates to watch the rugby. It had been three years since we last visited the place, mainly because of the lockdowns, and also because not everyone was available at other times, to meet up. First impressions were that the place hadn’t really changed at all, which was a good thing. It was as welcoming as ever and the new owners have done a really good job of keeping the place comfortable and welcoming. The beers selection is really good - I had the Camden Pale Ale, and it was very quaffable. We also all had food and all agreed that it was very tasty, with good presentation and good portions. All in all, we spent a good couple of hours at the Mackworth, and we look forward to going back again sometime in the near future.

Our starters were amazing and extremely tasty. The rest of the meal was average. We were expecting great things from all we had heard but left disappointed. We ate here on a Saturday afternoon; the place was nearly empty (should have taken the hint!). The vegetarian option was limited to Veg Lasagne or Veg Chilli, we asked if the chef could make a sandwich as we did not like either of the vegi options, this was refused, we were the only ones eating! The food was really poor quality, the Chicken curry was like water the hand cut cooked chips were frozen chips, the Beef Lasagne as lumps of pasta and tasted terrible. The garlic bread was burnt and had to be sent back and the food was lukewarm. The service was poor with the waitress hardly raising a smile the entire time. I would avoid this place and will certainly not be returning, I suggest you do the same.

It was our wedding anniversary tonight and we’ve had many lovely meals at this pub so we thought we’d go there tonight with our ten year old. We were extremely disappointed. Our chips were incinerated to the point of being dark brown. When we complained the answer we got back from the kitchen was they were coming out like that because of the wrong season of potatoes. My husband bit into his lamb burger then lifted the bun to find literally a burnt and I mean black as charcoal burger. We complained again and were told the kitchen would cook another one. No sign after half an hour of waiting so we settled the bill minus my husbands meal and left. After a long week and a family celebration we were looking forward to this tonight bit were bitterly disappointed to the point we won’t be returning in a long while.

On our 2nd night on holiday in the area we stopped off for tea. Families welcomed. Lovely pub wirh a modern yet traditonal style. We were the first to order food as we were there ready for the 5.30 start time. It wasnt busy but it took 40 mins for the food to come. HOWEVER, as we'd hoped, it was freshly prepared and tasted lovely. Non of us were disappointed. We even had desserts which is rare for us (the children got ice cream with their meals). Our only fault would be the lack of choice of children's menu (usual chicken nuggets, fish fingers and sausages with chips, peas/beans). HOWEVER, they happily substituted the chips for jacket potato for the children so we were happy. My suggestion, would be to offer half portions of some of the main meals, as not all children like the usual offerings. We actially plan to visit again for tea before the end of our holiday. Can highly recommend.

Have eaten here 3 times in last 8weeks. The last twice when the restaurant was busy the food was good. Tonight however the restaurant was empty by 8.30 except for us 4 there was a definite change of climate. My hubby ordered 16 oz sirloin steak medium rare - it arrived done with barely a pink stripe through the middle- it was returned, the other 3 of us continued to eat and had finished when the 2nd steak arrived. This lump of meat was still over cooked and had lumps of gristle - seen by all of us as it was a struggle to cut it. My hubby rarely complains - but told the young waitress that it was a terrible steak - she had no answer. He left over half of it, and then the answer came back- when it got to the kitchen they could cut it easily - there were clearly lumps of gristle on the plate to see. We are very disappointed not only with the meal, but the lack of customer service. The crap meal was paid for grudgingly- £18 was a lot for a poor meal.

Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress, who is working while at college. We were offered extra chips and we were also given cream to go with a birthday cake we had brought ourselves. The lady in the kitchen was fab too, nothing was too much trouble and the food was superb. I will definitely be visiting again.

I came home Thursday evening to find my wife shaking and crying. She had been to Tesco Extra Bridgend and been treated as a thief even though she had paid for everything. She bought a tent which had a security tag on it. The staff member at the self checkout area could not remove the security tag. When my wife went to leave the shop she explained this to the security guard who told her she needed to show him the receipt. This was in one of the shopping bags and she could not find it. All the guard needed to do was reprint the receipt which is easy to do using the club card or just by returning to the checkout and printing them out until the right one is found. It had been about two minutes so easy to find. He didn’t do that. The guard instead loudly interrogated my wife in front of other customers. The duty manager was called and he did nothing. He didn’t stop the guard verbally attacking my wife and didn’t suggest they simply reprint the receipt. Why? My wife left the store and walked to her car. She is a defenceless small woman, and she was by herself and the guard followed her. He refused to let her leave until she had handed over the tent, so stole it as legally it was hers as she had paid for it. He threatened her so she gave him the tent. The guard bullied her. The worst type of bullying. My wife was scared, intimidated, frightened, embarrassed and humiliated as other customers witnessed this and would possibly believe she stole the tent, so is a thief, as the tent was taken off her. What else would they think? Though very shaken my wife returned to the store. She asked that a replacement receipt be printed which another member of staff did. It showed the tent had been paid for so she asked for it back. She told the guard he was wrong to do what he did. He did not apologise, nor did the completely useless duty manager. The guard told her she was banned from the store, because she dared to stand up to his bullying and tell him he was wrong to treat her the way he did. The duty manager still did nothing. That security guard followed a woman, on her own, to her car and threatened her. That can never be the right action, not ever. That guard is a bully. If that is the way Tesco treat their customers then I won’t be returning there. I used to work for Tesco and out of loyalty we still shop there 40 years later. I won’t shop there again. I did go to the shop and made a formal complaint but have heard nothing. Neither the duty manager or guard were there. My wife complained on line but so far has heard nothing. The behaviour of the security guard was threatening so I have reported this to the police as threatening somebody is a crime.

Fair play, took our Nephew for his 18th, good choice on menu (nan breads a bit small tho😔) however, the food was excellent, good value for money and the service was quick. A bit quiet for any atmosphere, but what a clean and tidy pub, much much nicer than many many others I could care to mention. I can definitely recommend the Lodge to try, we'll definitely be back, lunchtime or evening, the menu has plenty of choice 👍
