Hunters lodge in Bridgend

Had a nice evening with friends. It's a lovely place, but I had fish and chips and I was ill afterwards. The fish didn't look freshly cooked. I shouldn't of eaten it. It was my own fault.

Great service, I had the all day breakfast which I thought was good value. 👍

The food is rubbish, it's like you remember pub food from 10+ years ago but at today's prices. Everything was flavourless and the foods were a magical combination of undercooked and overcooked. However, it has a decent location, good atmosphere and good beer.

Plenty of parking spaces. Lovely pub,nice atmosphere. I had the lunch deal. Bacon club baguette,which came with chips and a drink. I had a Coke. Chips were piping hot and beautiful. The baguette was stunning. Really tasty. Excellent prices! I will definitely come back!

Went for lunch , food was brilliant and staff were polite and welcoming. Definitely going there again for food.

It was my grandads birthday and the lady working behind the bar had a terrible attitude towards me and my sister and was outrageous and she was staring and shaking her head at us throughout our time at the pub really dulling the mood for me and my family, Blonde hair and short, seemed quite young.

Fair play, took our Nephew for his 18th, good choice on menu (nan breads a bit small tho😔) however, the food was excellent, good value for money and the service was quick. A bit quiet for any atmosphere, but what a clean and tidy pub, much much nicer than many many others I could care to mention. I can definitely recommend the Lodge to try, we'll definitely be back, lunchtime or evening, the menu has plenty of choice 👍

Having celiac disease and unable to have gluten. Had meat and vegetables. This was OK, but would have been nice to have roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. On the plus size they only charged me for a child meal.

I came here for a catch up with a friend, it’s local and thought it would be a nice place to unwind. The manager was incredibly rude. When my friend had asked questions about whether they were still serving food he looked as if it was a trick question- but just being polite we thought we would ask as we hadn’t eaten here before. He then looked up at the two customers he was serving and rolled his eyes and smirked- I wanted to walk out there immediately, it’s not the right way to go about making customers feel welcomed. I would avoid at all costs- unless you’re thick skinned and can override such rude mannerisms.

Community pub which has gone downhill in my opinion. It has been recently revamped with a more defined dining area (which I have previously liked) but on my latest visit the food was reheated in the microwave until it was ruined. I couldn't finish it, it was so bad. I won't be back.

We had lunch today start of new menu southern fried chicken combo .pork rib combo a chicken bbq bacon cheese melt all dishes came out really hot straight from kitchen could not ask for anything more absolutely delicious staff were impeccable would definitely recommend

3 of us were the first to try new dishes on the menu at lunchtime. Food piping hot & extremely good. Excellent service. Lovely to sit outside 😍

Lovely looking pub, but you have now replaced the tiny rebel drinks you had with drinks that every other pub in bridgend has. Easy living and clwb tropica being available on tap made you stand out to other pubs, and was the only reason I came there. I feel no need now.

Went to watch the Champions League tonight. Plenty of people there, quite clearly only for the football. Yes, they "closed" at 10pm but stayed open for extra time. Game went to penalties and staff turned off all tv's. Surely they could have waited 10 more minutes. Severe lack of customer service and disregard for customers, who had been drinking and eating all night whilst watching the football. Staff didn't care. Was going to go there the day after with the wife for food and drinks, will NOT be going there now and probably never again. Shocking customer service and attitude.

Absolutely disgusting customer service experienced here tonight. I travelled 15 miles to watch the Champions League tonight, only to be left feeling furious by the incredibly unprofessional and awful attitude of the manager. He turned all the TVS off just as the penalties were about to commence. The place was full of people clearly there for the football, but the manager didn't care. He said he wasn't getting paid after 10. This place has posters everywhere boasting about all the sport it's going to be showing. Never known anything like this !!! Myself, Friends and Family won't be back...EVER!

First time visiting here my chicken burger had definately been warmes up it was really tough. .. we were disappointed to be told at 8pm we could not order a sweet as the kitchen was closed ! Also the staff were not very welcoming

Nice staff and quick service..worth a visit

Went to the Hunters Lodge lunchtime today great to see offers for regulars as well as for those who do not frequent this superb venue, the Service given by Charlene and Eleanor today was second to none excellent venue along with first class food and service by professional staff, never been let down by this venue, all staff including those not on duty today such as Debbie on a well earned day off and Chloe, the kitchen staff are all worthy of my total appreciation thanks to all at th lodge highly recommend

I went today and the gammon was Beautiful and the staff were very helpful and delivered excellent service was highly recommended

Excellent service and amazing food

Food is being cooked and held waiting for orders, my burger was severely undercooked. My kids food was old, buns were stale, chips were cold and old, peas old, overcooked. Seems to have gone downhill and not cheap either. Best part was the rhubarb and custard ice cream. Will not be going again anytime soon.

Really disappointed, pre booked a table for Sunday lunch for a birthday to be told when we sat down that there are no dinners left

Me and my boyfriend came for food, it was great, we both enjoyed it throughly, staff were very friendly. Plus the cocktails are great!

Had a very tasty lunch with the family, and the added bonus is that the left-hand side of the pub area as you enter is dog-friendly! Food was very tasty and good portion sizes. Worth noting that there are menu offers which include drinks or for a subsidised amount (e.g. Burger and a Drink, or upgrade to selected alcoholic drinks for £1 extra).

Went for the offer they are having on food this week, I wouldn’t like to have paid full price for the lasagne, it was dreadful, poor quality frozen rubbish.

Place is really nice. Food is great. Staff are really friendly. But place could do with a really good clean. Toilets are not the best. Could do with some entertainment to liven the place up

Lovely food at reasonable prices. Accepts blue light discount, card and cash. Pool table, darts and slot machine available at the bar. Ample seating and cosy booths. Friendly staff. Food is nice, friendly family pub. Would recommend.

Nice dinner area, service was great. Food came out within the waiting time we were told about. Steak was cooked just right. Would visit again.

Although there were 6 of us the food came less than 10 mins after we ordered it, it had obviously just been warmed up. My scampi of which there were only 5 was overcooked, hard and tasteless. A family members fish which was supposed to be cod was just a small piece of mushed fish covered in the most disgusting greasy batter I have ever seen, she could not eat any of it. After a considerable long time we had to call one of the staff over to clear our plates and serve the children their ice cream. The older woman behind the bar was very miserable and most unhelpful. We will not be going back.

I’ve been here twice over the past month with friends and had the same meal - a classic chicken burger with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are great and some of the nicest I’ve had, but these have been let down by a microwaved chicken burger that was as tough as an old boot. The first time, this was inedible and had to be returned; the second time it wasn’t as bad, but still microwaved and tough. This needs a huge improvement, and should have been addressed after the first meal was returned. Despite this, the staff are polite and helpful and the atmosphere at the lodge is always pleasant.

Just came for a drink and a game of pool/darts, all very nice inside, smoking shelter/big screen outside also. Not been here in a long time, didn't order food so can't comment, but good overall, would come again.

Brilliant place to eat and very reasonable

Went for a birthday meal and the food was terrible. It all came out 5 minutes after ordering and both mine and my sister's hunters chicken was very hard to cut and dry. It must have already been cooked and warmed up as it came out so quickly! The sauce was more tomato and not BBQ. We also ordered the due chocolate brownie which also, came out very hard and was very unpleasant to eat. Very disappointing and definitely won’t return.

Regularly visit with family and friends, and always have great food, service and atmosphere. A big selection of choice on the menu and a beautiful roast dinner on a Sunday. Feel very lucky to have this pub on our doorstep. Dave is always welcoming and provides excellent customer service and a great laugh.

Had a few drinks and food after work with a colleague and their partner. Had a great time with great atmosphere there, nice large screen to watch the sports too if that's what you fancy!

Great food for picky bits and great choice of beer!

First time here today with my girlfriend, very nice place and it was quiet which was lovely too. The staff were very lovely and pleasant. Food wasn't long coming out and tasted amazing. I will definitely be back to try more off the menu. If you're in the area, give this place a try.

It's nicely done out, but the food / menu needs work

Ordered on the app, but had to chase our drinks. We were then told they "don't operate from the app", despite every menu (printed April 23) promoting and advertising the app, containing a QR link and encouraging it's use. And further, the app functions and takes payment! Turn it off, if you're "not operating from it" Could do with closing the adjoining doors when the football crowd is in, as the noise travels far through the other side (mainly containing tables trying to enjoy Sunday dinner) Usually this venue is great, staff friendly, lovely decoration, cosy atmosphere, ok food

Update August 2023: Review downgraded from 3* to 1*. Original review is below. Since then had a meal where my Son's sausage and mash was so awful that I can't believe it was served: microwaved rubbish. Even the gravy was microwaved, and had congealed into a sludge. So unfortunately that was the last straw and we won't be back. Original review: We've been coming to the Hunters Lodge for decades. It has always been a bit of a budget meal kind of place - the sort of outing you do mainly for catchup with friends/family or an easy bite to eat but not the sort of place you'd choose for a nice high quality meal. But with that in mind it generally ticks the box. However, you do need to choose your meals quite carefully. Because many of the meals are literally just pre-prepared microwaved dishes. Pie and mash, for example, will be served as a soggy warmed up pie and a dolop of warmed up mash, also with some hard peas that failed to survive the microwave. So I would avoid these kinds of dishes. But other dishes, such as lasagne, do warm up quite well so even though it is still microwaved food you could easily have done yourself at home, it does at least taste quite nice and you won't feel like eating it is a chore. But the best thing to do if coming here is to get one of the grilled items off the menu (steak etc). Because these do need to be cooked somewhat on demand, so you won't get served something warmed up in the microwave. So if I was rating Hunters Lodge based on the grilled items I might give a 4*, with that being based mostly on value for money. It won't be anywhere near the best steak meal you've ever had, but it will be an acceptable meal at a good price. But if rating based on the dishes I said to avoid, I'd give Hunters a 2* because these are really low quality meals that are not worth paying any money for in my opinion. Hence my actual rating of 3* is in the middle of these.

Brilliant pub, so clean and the friendliest staff. Good selection of beers and ciders, and on top of that a lovely garden to enjoy the last hours of the sunshine. Food came out nice and quickly and tasted great!

Update Aug 23 Another great lunch. Good food served hot within short time of ordering. Friendly staff still good prices. Update Jan 23 Popped in for lunch. Not too busy but ticking over. Had mixed grill great VFM. Wife had all day Breakfast also VFM. Great staff, nice ambiance. Update Dec 2022. Had a Xmas do with the volunteer rangers. Great Xmas menu, loads to eat, lots of great service from the staff. Really good prices. The recent refurbishment has made it a lovely place to eat and drink. March 2019, called in for a quick bite before a road trip. Extensive cheap menu and pleasantly surprised by dishes. Choose the all day breakfast and it arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. All very hot and looked freshly cooked. It wasn't busy but it wasn't quiet either so amazed at how fast we were served. Food was good and tasty even the toast was hot. Will definitely use it again for a quick bite. The lounge side was cosy, tidy and pleasant. Staff friendly and accommodating. The Bar side is a bit open and airy but probably OK for families as some of the tables are larger.

Brilliant little place..... Pop in anytime staff are very helpful the food is great and at a good price...Atmosphere is chilled never ever had a problem with anyone here.

I had an amazing experience at this lounge! The ambiance is fantastic, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The friendly staff made me feel right at home. It even brought back memories of the open clubs in my hometown in India. Highly recommended for a great time!

I'm very disappointed! We approached a member of staff at the bar after reserving a table and was told to find the table with our name on a card. Good job the place was dead quiet! We ordered drinks and food, which is paid for then and there (no wonder really) food arrived at the table literally within 5 minutes after sitting down with our drinks! Absolutely the worst Sunday dinner I've ever tried to eat! The roasties were soggy and tasted like vinegar had been added to them. They were awful. The mash was full of hard, lumpy bits of potato. The beef was tasteless and dry. In no way was it sirloin beef. The veg was hard and bitter. Even the Yorkshire pudding was yuck! I tried everything on the plate and was disappointed with every single thing! How embarrassing to leave a plate full of food, it was disgusting. So lucky it was paid for so we could just leave and not have to make eye contact with our waitress, who I must add was polite and smiley. Will not be returning for food.

Can never fault Hunters, travel from Port Talbot regular as knocks spots of most round here.

This has been my local for over 20 years and I have found it a great pub á my local However it is now owned by Atonegate pubs who only have one intention to rip off customers, went there today and they have imposed a 30p rise in beer costs per pint due to the rugby We do not drink in the bar and have no interest in the rugby so why should this levy be applied across the board, we were told it will be applied on all rugby games my advice give this rip off pub a wide berth drink elsewhere, White Horse here we come

I came here with my partner for a casual drink and decided to stay as the pints were lovely and the garden was really nice. We ended up having some of the picky bits to eat and I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks Deb, I will definitely come again!

Had the steak pie it was nice but came with what I would call a stew pack veg which was swede carrots leak and peas. The swede and carrots were big chunks and very hard and the pot of gravy was black and thick could have cut it. This spoilt the meal didn't go just peas would have been better. Told waitress who said would tell kitchen and that was that . Dessert was lovely had the Eton mess sundae.

This is one of the better pubs in Bridgend, food is good & quick, drinks are bit on the dear side, lovely place clean,tidy,& friendly.

This place was fantastic when it was first refurbished, however it hasn't taken it long for it to fo down hill. Darts for dart board all snapped, pool table is in and out like a cuckoo clock and is propped up with beer mats constantly making the white ball stick. Tables in the way of pool table. Staff are very friendly but when it's quiet they just gather round chatting when there are tables cluttered with glasses, ash trays need emptying and tables are sticky. Nice pub but staff and management need up up their game.

Absolutely appalled tonight.. no grill working .. asked for starters none we wanted available.. on the menu they gave us due to grill not working... Ordered scampi an lasagne omg... Asked where garlic bread is oh sorry don't have any... Scampi... Peas were cold .. spent so much on refurb now the food is suffering... Won't be back for a while .. 50.00 spent as we had a bottle of red.. would have stayed longer but couldn't wait to get from there... not happy

Took family here for lunch today and was very disappointed. Having been to the Hunters Lodge prior to their refurbishment we loved the food and the menu. However the menu has since changed and seems more limited with a few favourites now missing (katsu chicken). Having been told that this pub was 'dog friendly' by others we found this not to be the case. I entered and asked about where we could sit with out dogs and was told that the only places to take dogs was outside or in the small function room which was unusable as there were no tables or chairs set up! Ended up sitting outside, to the dissatisfaction of my guests due to weather (we have an elderly dog that struggles in the heat). When ordering food we were told they had no seasonal veg leaving one unhappy mother in law! I had ordered cod and chips and asked for beans instead of peas to which we were told that 'the chefs don't like to substitute' so had to remove the peas and then Pay Extra for beans! Outrageous! When the meals arrived my cod was on paper which when eating was dissolving and ended up with a piece in my mouth so had to remove the paper from the plate (silly idea). There were also hardly and chips with this meal. Beans were dry. Overall quite disappointed, especially after having a few good meals here previously. Hopefully The Hunters Lodge will take others comments on board. Unsure about a revist.

After having a bad meal not long ago, decided to give it another go. Again, Food came out within minutes! ( to fast to have been cooked properly) chicken is “ cooked” in the microwave, not even grilled or any attempt made to cook food properly. It was cold & floppy like rubber. Another person in our family had a grilled chicken skewer with grilled peppers & Caribbean sauce. ( it was cold rubber chicken on a stick with cold uncooked peppers with a small drizzle of bbq sauce) nothing at all grilled or even cooked. Another person had a steak that was inedible,pure fat to the point it couldn’t be cut, chewed or ripped with teeth! Child’s meal had a cremated beef burger you could hear him crunching. I informed the waitress who then informed , I’m assuming a supervisor, who listened to the concerns and offered us a dessert. A bit of ice cream to compensate for the money we just paid for food we couldn’t eat was not sufficient. We then called to the chippy on our way home because we remove were so hungry. After giving it the benefit of the doubt, I won’t return ,complaints are listened to but they continue to serve awful food. (Take the microwave away! )

Had a lovely family meal last night, the service from a lovely lady behind the bar was excellent very friendly and helpful regarding different flavoured gins . All the meals came out very quickly and were all lovely

Modern sports bar feels. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and not bad value for money. I had the moxed grill, was well cooked and tasted amazing( I couldn’t finish it). Wide selection of drinks available.

Its been absolutely lovely being in the hunters lodge since the new referb, really brings out the place, staff are wonderful as always, food is wonderful and well priced, recommend 100% if you’re in the area

The hunters lodge is a great place to go for drinks, food and sports. They have a lovely beer garden which is amazing for a cold bevvy on a hot summers day. The staff are friendly and efficient and can not do enough for you. Food is tasty and always delivered quickly. Dave the manager is always going out of his way to provide excellent service. Couldn’t recommend this place enough

Had two meals in the last week .One was chicken katsu with rice and peas extra chips Very Tasty and Filling. The other one was Fish Chips and Peas lovely meal Fish had Crispy Batter to the very last BITE. Staff were great
