Macellaio RC in Islington

The quality is there. The food itself was good, same for the service..but it is so overpriced that I would not recommend to anyone unless u want to literally throw your money in the bin. I know that prices have increased everywhere but here it was insane. £7 for a really small portion of baked potatoes. I think it will take a few years to forget that.. On top of that the service charge didn't seem to be optional. Ended up paying £30 just for that. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (which only had a plate of pasta). Last thing: what they mean for a glass of wine is instead just the bottom, (another £8 for a primitivo)... I guess it is going to be the same for a lot of other restaurants in London.. not accessible anymore for ordinary people..

Weird atmosphere, we actually got talked out of what we wanted to order..... honestly the steak was ok. Overall the food was good but the service and atmosphere kinda just made it feel weird. Fully average experience, I don't think I would recommend.

Our server Max was lovely and attentive. Good spot outside, great wine and the good was just what I needed on a Wednesday night.

Worst piece of steak I have ever had, ordered the most expensive option on the menu and it tasted sour and like it has been sat there unsold for the past month No wonder why you can get a last minute booking on fri night. AVOID. It was £132 Even the chips tasted stale and refried, the ketchup and mayo tasted like cheap super market brands. The Pasta was also not great. Advice to manager exit from the neighbourhood and make way for a better restaurant

Kind staff, amazing food. The cured meat selection made me feel I was actually in Italy, they even had “lardo di colonnata” which was the first time I saw it served in London. The beef tartare was so tasty (light but tingly) and the 900grams steak was cooked to perfection. Will be surely come back.

Everything was amazing, from the entrance of the restaurant I was very welcomed by amazing stuff, we didn’t have a booking, the restaurant was very busy and they gave me a table, very lucky, we had starters , beef tartar and main course we had ribeye on the bone , everything cooked beautifully, everything was very testy , I can’t wait to go back again in March with my family to celebrate my 30th birthday! Well done to the team !

Extremely disappointed, I ordered the chicken milanese , the chicken was as thin as a slice of paper , burnt breadcrumbs, and greasy tomatoes dumped on top of the chicken. Tasteless . Frozen fried chips and disgusting greens side dish with frozen tinned peas in . Not worth the £17 for the chicken!!!!! The restaurant was dirty , the salt and pepper mill all greasy , the service wasn’t great at all . I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Had a £300 dinner for two last night. Terrible service: annoying waiter trying to upsell his wine list. He had no Clue about wine. We asked for a martini: a pond of water with a hint of gin-shook to a pulp, not stirred as it should have been.. We asked for the piemontese beef., the most expensive in the menu. It was a thin slice (allegedly 800g, the minimum Amount you could order) that they beat to a pulp to tenderise (very unusual) served grey and luke warm. The green salad was nice.

Loved the bone marrow, good quality meat.

My pals and I took our friend Astro (pictured) to have a steak as he had never had a steak in his life and was curious to learn more about them. Look at the joy on his face! 5/5

we came tonight, exceptional place, like at home, the manager Roberto was very kind and all the staff too, delicious food, the tagliatelle (very soft) and the tagliatelle with meat sauce were top, if we ever return to London we will definitely go again ❤️❤️

This restaurant! Absolutely beautiful! Had a drink on the bar area on the right hand side. Felt like I was in one of those small streets in Italy bars loved it! I later on had a wonderful gnocchi with a sublime cheesecake to top it off!! Shaon looked after me and a redheaded lady who seemed in charge was also very kind and welcoming. The staff seemed to be enjoying themselves and the decor is so unique!!! I will definitely return

This used to be a fantastic restaurant, with top quality Italuan meat and the most attentive service. We went back yesterday woth friends and promising great food. We left very disappointed. First of all half the sides were unavailable ( at 6.30pm), same for the alchool free beer and coke zero. We ordered the frisona, which is indeed marbled meat, but man, our had so much fat, and it was so salty it kept me awake all night craving water. Sides were on the very small side, we asked ketchup to be taken to the table for the chips, and it tasted off, so no joy with it. Service was defo not the best despite the half empty place, but the worst thing was the constant whiff of rotten food/garbage coming from behind our table. It was quite disgusting, and it made all of us question what was going on. Needless to say, our friends were less than impressed, and I felt massively let down. My guess is that there was a management change, it is definitely no longer a proper,authentic and upscale Italuan restaurant.

Delicious food, great looking place and most importantly great service. Lucy and Roby were great, would definitely recommend.

One of the most disappointing meals I have had in a long time. Steak had no taste and was shamefully over priced for the quality.

I really enjoyed my dinner at Macellaio Clerkenwell. The staff is very polite and knowledgable and food is delicious. Maybe portions are a bit small but overall very nice atmosphere I would go back

Dropped in on Thursday night and wasn’t disappointed, starters well prepared and the steaks are unreal. Also the table staff were knowledgeable of the wines and provided good wine pairings with starter and main. Great location for after drinks too!

This site in the group needs urgent attention to recover standards. - Opening drinks order was incorrect twice - 3 different red wines on the list were unavailable (1 or 2 I can understand!) - potatoes were served cold with the steak - front of house team were nice people but didn't work together; several of them trying to clear before we had finished and give cutlery to another table - the bathrooms weren't very clean either Thank goodness the T-bone steak was tender and delicious ! All of rest needs to come together though, as I wouldn't recommend it to anybody over the competition.

Love macellaio soho, but recently visited Exmouth Market branch, super cute. Food was outstanding can't reccomend enough, best steak around 😋

- Steak prices advertised per 100g outside the restaurant. - Minimum order of 700g not communicated until you're in and you've ordered your drinks - We were given a 720g steak and they charged us for the extra 20g - Charged £3 for tap water in a reusable bottle with a made up brand name on the menu (they were very quick to take it off the bill when questioned) - First page of the wine menu gives you wine by the glass or 500ml carafe (in small print at the bottom - every other page is bottle prices) - Service charge is 13.5% Steak was nice but I struggle to enjoy a meal out when I'm quite clearly being ripped off at every opportunity. Avoid.

Ok 2 stars because the food was ok. But my god, what a nightmare. So, picture this ... You're walking down exmouth market, and you come across what looks like quite a nice venue for your anniversary dinner - you take a glance at the menu ... Steak, £7 per 100g - perfect! This looks reasonable, and cosy, let's go for it. We sit down, the atmosphere is nice. Conversation is flowing, and the waiter comes over to take your drinks order. You glance over the menu and order the house red which you're lead to believe is £23 bottle of merlot ...the wine comes - it's gorgeous, wow what a STEAL for £23. You come to order mains, but before that you think... 'OK let's treat ourselves to some starters'. Olives for £4 and mixed meats for £19... Expensive but so what, it's the anniversary! Shortly after locking in the starters, you're told that you can have steak for your main, BUT...it's a 700g minimum order. (Nowhere on the menu does it state this). So, wave goodbye to your within budget meal and greet in a £25 portion of meat (including the weight of the bone). If you want fries, it'll be an extra tenner please. We sucked it up, what can you do - the olives are already on the table! You enjoy the meat, beautifully cooked - but the sour taste of lies, deceipt, and misleading menu designs are coating my mouth. The whole thing just feels off. The receipt comes... The meat is charged at 720G after telling us is was 700g, charged for the extra 20g of course. The tap water they offered us in an unbranded house caraffe was charged at £3 (these carafes were stored visible and empty behind the bar). The house bottle of wine we ordered was £30 (not £23) , we were later told that the first page of the wine menu was a caraffe menu and not a bottled menu... (of course only told this when presented with the bill). The extra bread they pushed us with our meat platter was an extra £3 and then just before you think you can't take anymore ... slap on a 13% service charge. All starts to feel a bit off, right? If you're looking for a relaxed meal, where you don't want to have to check every corner and crevice of the menu for hidden lies or t&c's, do not come here - unless of course you're willing to remortgage your house for it. Lies upon lies and no care for the customer. I assume they make enough money from ripping off 1st time punters that they don't need to worry about return customers. Because frankly, I reckon they have 0. Rude service, misleading prices and dirty toilets. Do not recommend. Will not be coming back. I almost asked for the service charge back but I decided to bite my tounge and head for a pint down the road instead. An evening ruined and £160 for two people down the drain. Avoid.

Wonderful Italian steakhouse that does lovely grilled tongue and marrow, and also quality hand hashed steak tartare. Two flavour options are available for the tartare - one the usual with the works, and a stripped back version with just salt, pepper and olive oil that was divine as it allowed the quality of the steak to shine through. Loved this place and would absolutely return to again and again!

An excellent Italian restaurant for meat lovers, at a great location right in the middle of Exmouth Market. Amazing service too (special thanks to Roberto and Lucy). Everything we tried from the menu was outstanding but my favourite has to be Battuta Zola… will keep coming back!

Great restaurant / steak house. I'm under the impression the cuisine is from the north of Italy (Piemonte). They have several options for steak and the quality of the meat is excellent. They also have other options besides meat, such as burgers and pasta.

Enjoyed the dining until it came to desserts. Tiramisu lacks the alcohol which to me gives the traditional taste and then there was flour free chocolate cake...how about some proper desserts? Not everyone has allergies or doesnt want alcohol.

Very good Italian steak restaurant. The ribeye was very juicy and tasty. The wine, montepulciano d'abruzzo paired perfectly. Definitely recommend. The only downside is that the special steaks are of 700g minimum.

Lard on toast and truffle potatoes were 10/10. Carpaccio didn’t flattered us, not gonna order again. Meat was ok, I didn’t know they were serving it with olive oil. I like my steaks without additional oil, it overpowers the beauty of the meat🤷🏼‍♀️. Wine was ok but a bit pricy in my opinion. Overall it was a decent dining experience✨

How to enjoy a classy and tasty meal in a friendly but well mannered way. The service is on top, got full attention in a busy night. The meat is aged, and it adds depth and flavour that contribute to the organic experience of a humble place. Cherry on the cake with their manager Lucy orchestrating the night in a smooth and charming way.

Quaint little place at Exmouth market. In the middle of the buzzing street there is this quiet osteria. Steak is flavourful and the meat board is a must try. Staff are very polite. Shon happily accommodated to our cocktail request. Also a good deal with two for one cocktail betwen 5pm to 7pm ;)

The restaurant was very quiet inside, despite the rest of the street being very busy. The pasta, olives and desserts were good, but the beef steak was disappointing- especially for a meat restaurant. The waiter did not ask how we wanted it cooked. It was dry and overcooked, but also strangely soft. We ordered a bottle of wine and were surprised with the price at the end of the meal (£42). It turns out the price on the menu was for a 500ml carafe (£29), which was not clear at all- small print at the bottom of the wine list. Be warned! 13.5% tip for a very average level of service.

Very over priced for no reason food is very simple and basic got charged £70 pound for no reason just for a pasta .

Wednesday night, place is only half full, it took 30 minutes before waiter took our order. 1hr30 after arriving in restaurant we received our order. This was for a table of 3. Food not worth it. My advice go somewhere else in the very busy street outside, it’s like a morgue in here.

They give you tap water in a reusable bottle and charge you £3 for it, but sell it by asking “still or sparkling”. They tell you you cannot order just 200g per person, it has to be at least 300/400g which can be a lot for some people who don’t eat huge portions. This minimum requirement is not on the menu, so they trick you into coming inside to then find out you have to order double of what you can eat. We settled on a main dish and although the sauces were tasty, the meat was very chewy. It was not awfully bad but definitely will not return. The only good thing was the burrata and ham starter, which was tasty and in a good quantity.

The service is amazing, Roberto took care of us, he is very professional and kind to all his customers! The food is amazing, especially the T-bone steak 🥩 and the homemade chips! The restaurant is nice and everybody needs to try it! Thank you!

Booked this place based on a TikTok recommendation, which is always a bit risky, but I'm glad to report it paid off! I wasn't sure at first as the butcher's counter is quite literally in the entrance to the restaurant and the place had a different interior to what I was expecting, but I needn't have worried because the dining experience was fantastic. We shared a burrata with nduja to start, which was delicious. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Unfortunately we weren't able to order the tomahawk as they'd sold out the previous day, but they talked us through the rest of the steak menu and we ended up going for the Italian T-bone, which on reflection I think was a better choice for us. Our first steak didn't cook according to plan, so they made another for us and replenished our chips when this was ready. We had no room for dessert after all the incredible good but the menu looked good. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't much busier, based on this experience. I'll definitely go back and recommend any meat lovers check it out.

Spent a wonderful evening here with my partner today. We treated ourselves to some excellent menu and cocktail recommendations from our host Tiger, who was delightful and helpful throughout. Went for a ribeye and ravioli to share which were rich and tender. Would definitely come back to try some of the other steak cuts next time!

Incredibly over priced for mediocre meat

Awful experience. A complete rip off. Grilled Meat quality is very disappointing, and they will charge you more than what it says in the menu. A 7£/100g will automatically become a 20+£/100g for some weird excuse they will tell you where 80% is bone and 10% of meat is impossible to chew. A bad quality steak from any super market is better. Never gave a bad review in my life and this is the first one..

A lot of the wines that we requested weren't available and I think the steak could have been better. It was cooked well to our rare request, but it just didn't have any flavour. There wasn't that 'char' taste you look for in a seared 1 kilo steak, it was just a bit bland. We added olive oil, salt and pepper which worked but it just feels like it could have been better for the price and given that this is their speciality.

Taking so long to prepare online orders even when dine in don’t have a single coutomer. This is a bad reputation for the business.

If you fancy being mis-sold your dinner then this is the place for you. You are given a menu with prices for steaks per 100g but you can’t choose the size you get what you’re given and guess what? They’re huge, so you opt for something smaller only to find out it’s tough (you have to ask for a knife sharp enough to get through it) and the wine is more expensive than first seen on menu (lots of small print and no explanation from waiter at time of ordering) Then you have the pleasure of a 13% service charge when all you’ve witnessed is them hanging around showing off to their Italian friends sat next door who got lovely sized portions and free drinks. Having just returned from Venice (the supposed capital of rip off meals and service) only to realise they are mere amateurs compared to this restaurant. Take me back yo St Marks square for a bargain!!

Sides were forgotten about and we were sat with steaks for 20 minutes. Staff were polite tux but maitre d was rude when we entered and management didn’t explain, so was left to staff who were very nice due to it. We had service charge added which was frustrating, but didn’t pay that. Would’ve expected a bit more when 4 of us still ended up paying near £400. Good food, bad service, no wonder empty in exmouth market which is rammed usually, so will inevitably go under at this rate

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Chose to spend our 5 year anniversary here. Service incredibly slow, steak was served cold, pasta was over cooked, dishes are incredibly expensive for the quality of food. We were sat waiting for 45 minutes to pay at the end, no staff were available and we had to go to the kitchen to get the attention of staff - when we went to the kitchen there was an overwhelming smell of cannabis (explains the slow service Also charged incorrectly for a more expensive wine. We had one main and a glass of wine each and were there for 3.5 hours due to how slow the service was. I emailed the manager to rectify but did not receive a response. The most overrated resturant, we expected luxury but have had better meals at flat iron, recommend Manteca or Gloria as an alternative

We waited over two hours for our meal… management wouldn’t even admit to making a mistake and forgetting about our main course. Was really disappointed with the service. Also out of half the wines in the menu. Disappointing experience

Service was good, place is nice, however, as in the tbone picture, only about 40% of the sirloin was medium rare, fillet was on the way to well done which led to it being tough for me and not pleasant. Such a shame, considering the price, I would expect some more care. Not one to waste food, ate it, but when complained, just replying that the fillet is sometimes overcooked, doesn't really cut it as its their main product. Fries are quite nice though!

I have never felt so disappointed! It was one of my favorite places but I will never go there again and I will make sure my family and friends do the same! We did wait for a steak for over 1h and finally came completely overcooked while the potatoes were raw! We asked for a bread and olive never arrived. It was a complete fraud and the male waiter was so rude when we were complaining about the absolute lack of service and quality. 163£ for the worst dinner ever! Never never never again!!! And I was not the only unhappy, we overheard other people furious for their dinner. If the parent company is unable to find decent people to run a once nice place they should shut it down for good, like this it's a blatant scam!

Honestly, very disappointed by the food. No taste, and very expensive for what you actually get. All the dishes we ordered had no taste.

Food and service were just outstanding. Beef and bone appetiser was something that we've never tried before but it didn't disappoint. We wil definitely order this again. Our steak was cooked to perfection. Truffle butter was great compliment to the dish. Dessert that we've had- Basil Delizia, was the most surprising, yet extremely well balanced and tasty finish to our meal. Head chef himself come out to talk to us about the food which was lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Me and my girlfriend are regulars at macellaio exmouth market, We always return because of the high standard of the food and the service. Robi is always such a gentleman and a charmer and makes sure we’re looked after. The food is truly authentic and the cocktails are brilliant. If you’re looking for a romantic night out in the heart of clerkenwell, Robi, Luca and the rest of the Macellaio staff have your back! Will be back again soon

This is the best meat I have tried in London. The tartare is incredible and any of the steaks are high quality and cooked to perfection. Many people in the area are regular and comes for the delicious meat, the tasty sides and the friendly service !!!

Overpriced small portions, I had to go to the cashier to pay the exorbitant bill because service was next to non existent, got my wine half way through the main course! Never going back! Thank you for spoiling our Halloween night

I had been to other Macellaio restaurants before and had always been amazed by the food but this time was really not the case. If I pay £120 for just food (no alcohol), I expect really great stuff, and this was just not the case. The fries in particular were disappointing. On the plus side, service was good and the playlist was very good. Exmouth market is also lovely for a pre dinner drink

The rump Steak with grilled sweet potatoes were excellent! I also strongly recommend the cured meat to share 😍. Spent a wonderful moment, the service is incredible. We felt treated like VIP guests. Will definitively come back!
