Macari's Fish and Chip Shop in Highland

Typical west of Scotland chippy that offers just that and nothing else much but very good in the carry out food it offers ( small sitting areas )

It was worth waiting in the queue the fish and chips was amazing. Chips were fresh and hot, the fish batter was just right, not dry but not swimming in grease either. There is a wide menu including burgers, pies and haggis / black pudding etc. Did think £12.50 was expensive but also it was a special treat, and the food was lovely. Customer service slightly lacking in friendliness and manners. But

Vraiment pas terrible. Le fish and chips au haddock passe encore (la panure est plutôt bonne et le poisson correct) par contre le coleslaw n'est vraiment pas bon c'est bourré de mayonnaise bon marché on ne sent meme pas les légumes et les langoustines panées (scambi) ne sont vraiment pas bonnes. Seul point positif : le fish and chips est servi en grande portion.

The one night we had planned to get a fish supper. This place was closed. Perhaps they need to update their opening hours. Given that most people plan a takeaway as a treat. Very frustrating. Great for sammys chip shop though. Who by the way, do great food and have accurate opening hours.

Went on their eatzy website to order food showed it was online placed my order the bank took the money found out the shop wasn't even open that day been trying to get my money back from them called 3 times left messages on Facebook messenger even went to shop got told to come in the shop and it would get sorted when we turned up the guy said it was the first he heard of it kept getting fobbed of with the manager is not in if you leave ur number we will get it sorted load of bs I left my number still waiting been a week now and still not heard anything terrible customer service I don't even want the money back now I won't be ordering from them again

This chip shop did manage to sell excellent ice cream but only in a tub, if they served it in a waffle cone we would have given a higher rating. Unfortunately the chips served had obviously been there a while, they were dry and tasted awful. We were hungry and just ate them. Would not recommend

We were late coming off the Jacobite express and all restaurants had large queues outside we thought why not get a chippy as we were hungry we decided to get a haggis supper and a black pudding supper and half each, but we were bitterly disappointed with the so called “Stornaway haggis “ and the so called “Stornaway black pudding” the haggis had no taste and no texture it was like mush with no oatmeal the black pudding had a bit of taste but still not worth the £16 paid for the 2 suppers the chips were mostly tiny wee crunchy chips cut too small so very hard not a good experience at all would never use again.

The fish and chips were tasty but it seems they prefer you not dine in. They only have 3 tables. When our food was ready they called us and handed us the boxes. When I asked for ketchup and tartar sauce I was told it would be 40 pence per package It struck me funny that that they had a shelf crammed with bottles of ketchup yet you had to pay extra for it We asked where their rest rooms were and were told they don't have one but we could go and use the ones at other restaurants or go down the street. They do not seem to be geared to tourists.

Very nice fish and chips, maybe a little greasy but the fish was so fresh and lovely. I would go back if I return to Fort William. The price was pretty good as well.

We got a take-away here after going up Ben Nevis and, with a coeliac in the family, it was amazing to find a chippy that did gluten-free. Delicious too!

Can’t comment on food as never received ordered on just eat estimated arrival was 2 hours from first order they said tried to deliver a hour before estimated time and phone but no phone calls received plus left specfic instructions of our pitch number as was on a camping campsite so wanted delivered straight to pitch.complained to customer service but very obnoxious and not very helpful.obviously driver never read instructions as required so maybe he/she could review food and give a rating.

Bought one fish supper and one white pudding supper. My wife said the fish supper was ok (£10) but the white pudding was truly awful. When I squeezed it the grease poured out. Low quality and soaked in grease. I’ve had great white puddings (Edinburgh) and not so good white puddings (Fife) but this was the worst I’ve had. I couldn’t eat them. Total cost two suppers with two cans of juice £20.

Absolutely scrumptious fish supper. Lovely staff. Covid safety practices. Take away very organised or eat in at one of the four tables, which we did three nights running. And why not. No queue, no hassle, cooked to order, good price. Absolutely mouth-wateringly good.

Asked for a large cod and medium chips, and was told that unlike practically all other fish and chip shops, they only offer one size of fish portion. Went with a single cod with chips, and received a small box (actually labelled "small" on the bottom of the box) with a small fish portion and about a quarter of a "medium chips" you'd expect from anywhere else. Overall I'm not pleased with the portion size, and the quality wasn't above the standard you'd expect from any other fish and chip shop either.

Came across this chip shop by chance ,so glad we did the food was excellent with the Cod being the best we have eastern .The staff are delightful happy freindly and very very helpful .nice young lady did a little skip and hop when we thanked her .was a pleasure and a privilege to share a small time in there company .will deffo be back if happen to be in Scotland again .

Loads to choose from on the menu, and some different options too if you fancy a change from the normal. Black and white puddings were Stornoway - sold! We also had jumbo sausage plus chips and curry sauce. Everything was amazing, up there with the top chippers I’ve had. Definitely recommend, especially if you want a proper chipper experience in Scotland or fancy a top notch chipper! Prices reasonable and service very good.

After waiting all day to try these fish n chips which I got with curry and mushy peas (to share with husband) was so so disappointed. The chips were cold and the fish was mostly thick greasy batter.Most of it was put in the bin. I would not try again or advise to waste your money... realise why there is no eating in! Don’t like to moan but was not nice at all.

zero regard for covid procedures, staff not wearing masks whilst cooking or serving customers, we waited 15 mins before having to ask to be served which is plain rudeness, after ordering 3 other customers ordered and received their food before they remembered about our order this was then 30mins of waiting in the pouring rain. No apologies, please or thank you or enjoy your food...customers service 101! Then get back to the car to discover hair in the sausage supper and macaroni not even warm would not recommend and will not be back. train your staff!

Love this place. I've ordered different items from the menu and they're great every time! Right amount of grease for a chipper; you don't feel sickly after which I appreciate a lot. Super fast delivery. Amazing smoothies also. I also left a note on the delivery and they accommodated it.

Having climbed Ben Nevis and being on our feet for 8 hours we were starving and we arrived here and ordered 2 x Haddock and Cod Fish Suppers.Excellent, fish flakey and crispy batter certainly hit the right spot. Chips very well cooked too as were onion rings.A must to replace the lost calories and energy after such an epic hike.Dont think I'll be climbing Ben Nevis again however when back in the area this chip shop will be a must to revisit.Good luck during this unusual time

Stopped off before in Feb 2020 and had excellent food then, and even better last night. Customer Service 10/10 especially with current situation. A wee wait outside but worth it as food is fresh and piping hot.

Had visited this place several time as a local. On season could be very busy and end up for waiting 20min for your order but it worth. Staff is helpful. Even this recent times the place is open with extra safety measures in place.

A pleasant change from many modern takeaways. , a place where quality and quantity go hand in hand and good service a given. If you would like a take away from a traditional cafe this is the place for you

Pedimos Fish & Chips que llegó a 8. 00, al principio pensé wow un poco caro, pero cuando recibí pude entender por qué. El eglefino era un poderoso trozo de pescado carnoso, realmente fresco, puedo agregar, y las papas fritas son en realidad chips chips apropiados. They definitely need some customer service training in this place! Visited 3 times during our 5 day stay in Fort William. We were served by different people and all had the same manner... no interest!! No welcome or thank you when leaving. Continuity of food could also be better!

Living in a small town its hard to find a good takeaway ! I gave macaris several chances . It was so nice to be offered real chips! You do pay 8 pound for a fish supper...in this large box, You get half a portion if chips . Over battered small fish . Usually soggy !Everything is over priced . £2.20 for a small tub of cheese ! 3.80 for small pakora with no salad ??? What takeaway doeant do dald with pakora ? He usado la tienda de chips Macaris varias veces y estoy muy contento con la comida y la rápida respuesta del personal. pero, sobre todo, lo que me gusta de los macaris es que son chips adecuados, no la basura congelada que se obtiene en la mayoría de los lugares en estos días, pero sí chips buenos y muy buenos.

Visité este chippie el domingo por la noche, el más cercano, abierto a donde me estaba quedando cerca de Kinlochleven.Pensé que el pescado y las patatas fritas eran de un buen tamaño de porción y de buena calidad a un precio muy razonable.Esta es una para una futura visita cuando vuelva a la zona.

Me and my husband visited here on the 14th of October for a quick bite to eat for our dinner. Me and my partner ordered a scampi with chips and a fish supper. I was extremly delighted by the service by the two young ladies behind the counter. They were very helpful and gave us great service. The fish was cooked to perfection and the scampi was gorgeous! Will definitely be back on our next visit to this amazing town. I want to give my thanks to all the staff working that night, especially the two young girls. 5 stars from me! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I ordered a haggis supper, the haggis was dry. I asked for salt and brown sauce but they don’t have Chippy sauce, I’ve never been in a chip shop in my life that don’t have their own sauce. Behind the counter was sachets of HP brown daisy tomato etc for 20p. Ripping people off and the flavor of HP brown sauce doesn’t go with a Chippy. The manager or owner said sauce is an east coast thing, I’ve been all over Scotland and England and never came across a Chippy without sauce, disappointing.

Visited Saturday night, excellent service affordable prices, great food! What more could you ask for! Not many places you get real fish and chips these days! Here’s one. Keep up the good work

My niece and myself went here Thursday 26th September whilst in fort William, it was the best decision as the fish and chips were magnificent and the service impeccable.

As good as you will get in the area. Freshly cooked fish and chips. You can sit in although not many tables and it comes in the carry out casing and it’s only plastic utensils but the food is great and in the end that’s what matters. Best I’ve had for a long time. Pleasant staff.

As a local, I visited Macari’s for the first time on Friday 13 th September 2019. I ordered and asked for a receipt, as I had paid by card, and was curtly told I would get it with my order. I was amazed 2 fish suppers were £16.00 and a small portion of curry sauce was £2.00 ! I had to ask again for a receipt and the sullen non-talkative female serving seemed put out and displeased. When I got home I discovered that both fish suppers had only three quarters of a fish. I will definitely NOT be back.

We stopped to pick up a small lunch for the family and went in. No queue and server asked what we wanted. We stood in front of young girl who was serving and discussed (with our family of 3 children) we wanted 4 sausages; 3 battered and 1 plain along with 1 portion of large chips. Charged £17. Thought oh that's expensive but we had ordered by then. When the food came up we were given 8 sausages - server was very rude when we said we only wanted 4 and you know that as we stood here and told you. All she did was point at the menu and say that it says on there that they are sold in 2's. That's what you ordered, she continued to deny that we said 4 sausages. the manager came over and asked if all was ok, the server continued to deny we asked for 4 sausages (even though we heard her say to the cook can they have 3 battered and 1 plain sausage) we finally got a refund for half the amount but had to accept 2 plain and 2 battered.

My lovely wife and I popped into Macari's for a quick spot of lunch. Fish & chips cost £8 and a pot of curry sauce £2, which is a quite expensive. The chips were a bit on the insipid side and the batter a bit greasy. But the fish was nice. OK but not particularly great. Unlikely to return.

Popped in for quick dinner. I ordered a fish supper, however, the haddock was very slim and half the size of those posted by customers on Tripadvisor. For the price, the meal was a rip-off!
