Lyons' Den Gourmet Burger in Shropshire

I have been going here on and off for a few years now. It pains me to say it but, it’s not what it was. My food was good but, they don’t seem to do as many specials now, the cheesecake was fabulous but, it’s either not on or, it’s just a vanilla cheesecake called twirl because there is some chopped twirls on it. I assume from the drop in opening hours, things are not what they could be - come on Lyons Den, step up your Facebook PR again, do the great cheesecakes. It’s a great place but nothing comes easy in this world.

Very friendly Front of House Staff. Restaurant was very busy. Nothing was too much trouble. The Food was excellent (it's hard to imagine that there's not a burger in this restaurant for all tastes). Choice and quality was good. Service was quick and seamless. Clean, tidy and good value for money. What's not to like!

Heard great things so went along. Restaurant itself is really nice and service was great but unfortunately food didn't live up to expectation. Burger was dry and very average and chips claimed to be double cooked but we're just frozen chips. For £22 I expected more.

Been here several times, the food is always superb and the servers are polite & attentive. A real hidden gem in Shrewsbury. Would highly recommend.

I've been here a few times and I'm always happy with the food. I had the bacon cheeseburger which was really moist and meaty. Amazing chips with it! Then I had the specials crunchie cheesecake. £7.5 is a little on the expensive side for a slice but it was big and very tasty! Nice, cosy atmosphere here too. It definitely rivals another popular burger restaurant in Shrewsbury.

Popped in yesterday lunch time and the lovely staff managed to squeeze me in. Ordered mozzarella sticks and the ‘smoking south’ and it was great that I could swap the beef patty for breaded chicken. The food came out super quickly, the burger was 10/10 and the mozzarella sticks are definitely the best thing i’ve ever eaten! Staff were attentive and the restaurant is a nice environment, will definitely be returning.

First time we have eaten here whilst on holiday in Shrewsbury and we will definitely eat here again. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere, couldn’t fault anything.

We are regular ‘eat-in’ diners here but this was our first ever takeaway in lockdown. And boy, we were not disappointed. Suffice to say, there was not a scrap of food left on our plates (despite hubs ordering two burgers) and would highly recommend! If you’re both in Shrewsbury and in the mood for a burger, you MUST eat at the Lyons Den. The food was delicious and Enya and James were both really friendly and helpful. To top it off, the building is awesome as well. Oh, no worries if you don’t eat meat either, the veggie burger was the best one I’ve ever tasted!

Totally yummy, we both ended up with it all over our faces! Really juicy yummy burger, and the chilli and cheese fires a great upgrade. We had the mozarrella fingers to share to start and they were really good too. The L.D is very atmospheric in the cellar of one of the old buildings, so good for quite a romantic meal (over looking having burger all over my face!( as well as good for a group (when that is allowed again!!) .The staff are very friendly and efficient . Not had a better burger.

Booked on a whim on our way into Shrewsbury for some shopping. So glad we did. Great food, the Baconater was brilliant (had it with a gluten free bun). My wife loved the vegan option and the kids didn't complain either. Lovely atmosphere, staff very attentive.

Having read several reviews about how good the burgers are here we were underwhelmed. Burgers are nothing special and overpriced. Whilst they serve gluten free buns, which is a bonus, the chips are fried in the same oil as breaded products....coeliacs beware!

Went for lunch 10 days ago with some friends. Had the special Cock & Bull, damn tasty. Along with cajun chips - awesome.

Came in with my partner this afternoon, and it was amazing as always. We have visited a fair few times in the past and have never had a bad thing to say about it. The burgers are amazing and super tasty. The staff here are consistently brilliant and are genuinely friendly/lovely people. Will definitely be back.

Popped here after visiting the Prison. Lovely place tucked away. Staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Burgers really tasty without being over seasoned. I had the special of the week which was amazing. Really well worth a visit

A family favourite of ours. Went off piste last night and deviated from beef to chicken. Chicken was cooked to perfection in the usual tasty brioche bun. Great service and perfect food as always. Keep up the good work.

This is a family favourite in our house and we ventured out post-Covid in great anticipation. And we were certainly not disappointed!Covid implementations are in place but don’t distract from the restauarant’s cosy cellar atmosphere. They have introduced a one way system, all staff are in masks and we were even given the choice of disposable or traditional cutlery. A slightly reduced menu but food is just as amazing as ever .... best burgers ever, Milkshakes are to die for (my teenager had the Oreo one) and the mozzarella sticks are wonderful.Thankyou Lyons Dena and well done ... we’ll be back next week!.

The burgers were well made and tasty enough. The chips were tasty. The salad leaves served with the burger were wilting and dusty, I’m not sure they’d been washed. It would have been nice to have had a little tomato making an appearance in the salad. Clearly the extra “sides” are needed to round out the dish, but this can take a burger dinner to £20.Overall we left feeling a bit disappointed.Half the deserts listed on the menu were not available, so we didn’t bother.

We had a family meal here today we loved the beef burgers they were cooked perfectly and the yummy home-made chips were lush, the tiny bit of salad on the side just needs a wash (seemed unwashed to me) and some colour surely a few slices of pepper, cucumber etc to give some colour and would present it much better, we will be back, I did think the coke was very expensive though at £3 each for a small bottle!. Staff were very friendly and on the ball, excellent service.

Went out to Shrewsbury for the day and was looking for a little gem of a place to find some great food - definitely found it here! Underground slightly in a cosy restaurant we were seated by a brilliant waiter. The burgers were out of this world and we enjoyed every bite. Didn’t have dessert but saw another table who ordered the homemade cheesecake and it looked amazing. Will definitely be returning again when we visit Shrewsbury next time.

Lots of choice on the menu. Really friendly staff. Managed really well regarding the current restrictions around Covid-19.

Nice place , daft levels of CV19 rules in regards to "elf and safety " yet low arch heights without warning signs etc !! Anyway , the easiest way to get things wrong in a kitchen is to NOT know how and when to season . The burger was very very BLAND . The chips just as bad. No one wants to have to try and dissect a burger to try and add seasoning to the outside of the meat etc . Then we have the best "excuse" get out of jail card many places use now. "we are not allowed to cook to order" .Which means chefs really dont know what they are doing and the meat source for the burger is not single source . Its all "we have to do what the council tells us . Well if amny other places can do it and do it well . so can you .

The previous review about going to London is ridiculous and the person probably isn’t used to proper burgers without rubbish. The burgers here are the best I’ve had still and have been going here for years now. Came here last week and they are making an effort to be Covid safe unlike some other places in town.

Can not fault Lyons Den, waitress Enya explained all the rules and made us feel comfortable and at ease. She was chatty, friendly, polite and always around to order more drinks etc. Burger was amazing, double cooked chips are to die for and the ice creams for pudding was lush. Will definitely be returning and highly recommend to family, friends etc.

Thankfully no angry Lions met us at the door just friendly staff. We took advantage of the help out eat out scheme. Easy to book online ,followed up by a great meal.

In the last few weeks I have visited Lyons’ Den twice. Both times I have visited myself and the friend I was with have thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The food is so inexpensive and still amazing. Both times we were served by James. Great friendly service. Thank you.

we went to lyons den for a date night on the 01/08/2020, obviously there we restrictions in place, but you honestly wouldn't tell. The manager and assistant manager wher absolutly lovely! What a wonderful place to eat! The food was AMAZING!!I personally would HIGHLY recommend lyons den, the food and service is second to none!.

Hidden away on a backstreet lies a fantastic burger restaurant with very friendly host and excellent food. Very CV aware and produced amazing chips; burgers and milkshakes in an underground brick cavern playing cool tunes quietly in the background.

I have visited Lyon's Den a few times, most recently with my partner in February.Always greeted by friendly staff who seat you in the loveliest of settings, (it's based in a basement type setting) and they are so helpful.The food is so good, although you may pay slightly more here for a burger, it is well worth it! The quality is amazing and the portion sizes are huge, we made the mistake of ordering a side of loaded fries and it was like an extra meal! There is lots of choice on the menu and there is always something new and exciting to try!If you want a good burger, this is the place to go!!

started out when 1 member of our party sat down a nail sticking out of seat tore a hole in his jeans when notified a member of staff his reply its come out again has it!we were asked to pre order our food as group of 9 no problem when the food arrived several orders incorrect biggest dissapointmant quality of food all appeared pre cooked buns soggy and food not hot.Felt sorry for staff as no managers onsite to talk to

Visited Lyons’ Den this evening and it was truly fantastic! My husband had the Southern fried chicken special it was very tasty, the children’s dishes are a good portion size & the homemade mozzarella sticks are very yummy! Great wine too - Staff friendly & accommodating. We’ll be back very soon!

Had a fab hen do here on Friday and the staff were so amazing...unfortunately quite a few of the party were late and as much as I'm pretty sure they were frustrated they were so nice about it!! I had the halloumi burger and chips and oh my it was so tasty the chips were skin on which I don't normally like but they were tasty as well...lovely meal/lovely company/lovely staff

Cellar like atmosphere gave the place a nice feeling, hence Den I suppose. A great variety of different burghers, well cooked, well presented, very enjoyable. drinks i would say were very expensive, but generally a very good experience.

My son and I arrived without a booking hoping for a table for two. We were driving home from Aberystwyth. The lady in the desk was fantastic she not only found us a table but moved things around so that we did not need to rush. The burgers were great real homemade treats. The fries were good and all came hot. The staff were attentive but not too much. The sweets in the jar with the bill were a nice touch. Not from the area but ever around again would definitely revisit. I would recommend it to anyone who loves good wholesome food.

Been in there few weeks ago during our stroll through Shrewsbury, my partner craved a burger si we find that little place. I’m not a burger person, so I chose chicken wrap, it was nice overall! Been bit surprised that wrap includes only tortilla and chicken inside, but it was a fair size side salad also. Love the fact,that when I asked lady about changing a sweet chilli sauce for buffalo sauce there was no problem about at all! :)

Went to this restaurant following a review in the local newspaper, our expectations were high. We arrived at 6 for a pre-booked table, we were instantly told our table was booked out at 7.30. This is fine but we were told this three times, if its that much of a worry tell folk when they book. Out table didn’t have any cutlery in the pot, nor glasses, both hastily pinched from a nearby table. (Serviettes forgotten as that table didn’t have any either)Menu is good, lots of choice, had to ask for the wine list. We had a bottle of wine, this was just placed on the table, top still on, with two glasses and the waitress just walked off. A simple, “shall I pour you a glass” would have made so much difference. At this point we did start to feel we were being rushed. The meal was ok, the chips were not triple cooked, ours were soggy, greasy and tiny little brown chips, really the worst part of the meal.Onion rings were fantastic Staff are lovely.The place lacks attention to detail, debris on the floor under the table opposite us, tea lights not lit, table not laid, no serviettes, wine bottle just placed on the table.It’s a nice place for a burger, not gourmet I’m afraid, we would go again but with lower expectations, which is a shame its so nearly there - apart from the chips!

Burgers are delicious, staff is great and very helpful. For dessert we had waffles with caramel and ice cream. Unfortunately, the waffles were dry, cold and inedible. It felt like they just were taken out of a fridge and covered in a little bit of caramel sauce.

Great burgers, lovely ambiance, and friendly staff but watch out if you're a Coeliac. I was advised that I couldn't have fries with my GF burger so was confused when they were on my plate. When I asked, it was taken away and the fries replaced with the agreed salad. The other thing to note is that the only GF dessert is ice-cream.

Firstly: the food was great, the staff were lovely. But sadly our night was somewhat impeded by the people at the table next to us. Nothing the restaurant could have done about it really, but perhaps this review will at least make diners more aware of how their behaviour effects fellow diners.

The burgers here are 100% meat and don't have things added into them unless its specified, so you know what you are getting unlike most of the other restaurants that use sugar and flour to make their burgers tasty.

We visited on a Tuesday and were one of only 2 tables restaurant. We decided to both go for the specials a Korean chicken burger and a pheasant burger. Firstly the chips were not skin on or hand cut so we're dissapointed by this, my burger said it has a Korean inspired sauce, I was expecting something along the lines of bulgogi, it was actually just siracha out of a bottle, would be worth putting this burger is hot on the menu. The pakchoy on the burger was floppy and over cooked and apart fro ma few scallions and white sesame that was it. Nothing very Asian at all just a spicy chicken burger. The only reason I have rated poor not terrible is the pheasant burger was really well done, seasonal, the bon bon was the most flavourful thing on either of our plates.

This place is a bit out of the way and feels almost underground as it's under the buildings running along one of the main streets in town. Very quirky and unique interior. There's a good choice on the menu and the food above average for burgers. Drinks prices are a bit pricey for what you get and the food a bit more expensive than expected. That for me knocks the rating down from a 5 to a 4.

I cannot fault this place at any point! After being recommended by a friend we decided this was the best place to go for a family celebration. We were greeted as soon as we entered and shown straight to our table. The service was quick and very friendly, even when we were particular with our orders and asked to change certain parts of some dishes. The food was unbelievable! It was quick, even though they were clealy busy, fresh and piping hot. All 6 of us thought each burger was delicious (we all had something different) and every plate was soon empty. We all agreed to 'look' at the desert menu and although it wasnt the most extensive I have ever seen there was something for everyone and when it arrived the portions were generous and it tasted amazing! I cannot fault the food, staff or atmosphere of this establishment. I will definitely be returning!

My brother lives in Shrewsbury so on a recent visit he took us to Lyons Den as we all like a good burger. It didnt disappoint. I tried the frazzled burger and it was really good. My brother is vegan and he loves their vegan option and my husband also really enjoyed his choice.

Four of us including one child had a variety of dishes and they were all excellent. The vegetarian burger was delicious and the option for a gluten free bun is something that's often not available. My friend loved the sweet potato fries and the cheesecake was to die for. Service was excellent and food delivered promptly. Will definitely return.

A friend recommended this place to us . My daughters come here when they go shopping. The burgers are amazing, so are the cheesecake s.The staff are lovely, the restaurant is down some steps , but thyre not to bad . Looking forward to our next teip.

Visited Lyons Den recently. Great setting in what was formerly the Traitors Gate restaurant. Service was good. Chips were nothing special. No coke or Pepsi on tap, only available in small bottles. For four of us, with just a main course and two drinks each it was £90. Ridiculous!!!. The burgers were very average. Certainly not gourmet. My burger alone, with the fries was £20. For a burger!?! Sadly Shrewsbury seems to be filled with overpriced restaurants, and unfortunately this is one of them.

Visited on recommendation and based on good reviews. Arrived and thought that the quirky underground venue was cool and that the staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu looked really good too. However we were so disappointed with the food. It was just ok. But definitely not gourmet. All very average, quite greasy, and nothing tasted handmade. Which is fine, if you aren't trying to call it gourmet and charge gourmet prices. For two of us to have two meals and a drink was £40. In and out in half an hour and £40 worse off. Bit of a shame really!

We went to the Lyons Den today with high hopes and we were not disappointed! We were greeted by two smiling faces who were happy to do anything to make our eating experience enjoyable. The venue was full of character and had a very relaxing atmosphere.

Quaint and quirky setting, pleasant staff & lovely food. Wouldn't be ideal if you had mobility issues and there are no toilets in the actual restaurant (they are on the entrance landing and used by other premises).

Went out for lunch with my partner, we both wanted a burger. Found this place online and we are so glad we did. The burgers are fantastic and the chips are handcut and taste amazing. We can't wait to go again!

Cannot fault the food here as we have been many times and standard is generally quite high. Only thing I’d say is service sometimes is not the best, the last we were there they tried to get us out the door as quick as they could. Not great when you’re spending money to enjoy an evening there. Apart from that, nice venue and great if you’re in the mood for a good gourmet burger.

Went with work colleagues. Food had been pre-ordered and we were all impressed how it all came out and the same time. Which was impressive for a party of 20+. The staff were excellent, very polite and couldn't do enough for us. The food was amazing and well presented. We will definitely return.

Lyons’ Den is definitely worth visiting!

We visited on Saturday afternoon. It was quieter than expected. Great place, lots of little private areas in the basement, lit by fairy light. Good choice of vegetarian burgers, thoroughly enjoyed it! I would highly recommend.

Came here two weeks ago with my friend. Very nice tucked away restaurant. Burgers are never really a “go-to” for me when I eat out. However my friend wanted to go here due to the range of vegetarian dishes. So out of respect for her I agreed to come here. I’m so glad we did. I had one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. When it came to paying the pill I was shocked to find that a starter and my burger only came to £17. Amazing food for a very affordable price. Our waitress was also lovely and efficient. Would definitely return and recommend to friends.

We have been to the lyons den probably atleast 6 times now. We can't keep away. The food is amazing at a reasonable price there is lots and lots of choice.

Is one of the few places in town where you can enjoy a great burger, extremely polite and professional staff, nothing is to much for them. Having a burger here is like walking on clouds. Heaven , to hard to stop at just one. Many thanks to all the team

What a hidden gem! We were greeted on arrival by our fabulous host Enya. Enya looked after us from them moment we walked through the door. We were shown to our table and immediately given drinks and walked through the menu. The burgers were amazing, easily the best in town. In fact the best we've ever had. Generous portions, we were defeated, but we were even offered a box to take away what we couldn't finish. Some inventive creations and we will definitely be back to sample some more. Compliments to the chef!! Cheesecake was immense and can't wait to try the next one. See you again very soon, in fact, booking now to bring my family and share the joy! Excellent range of burgers, traditional and something of a twist. Children’s menu was thoroughly approved by our kids. Venue has a great atmosphere and I imagine would make a cracking location for an evening meal. (NB it is mostly burgers, inc vegetarian options)

I have eaten at The Den before but my wife had not, I had been very impressed previously and so booked a table for 2.

If your counting the calories or thinking of looking at the lighter bites options then seriously you are not fully committed to this dining experience! Every burger sounded appetising, but eventually I opted for the 'Big Daddy' being a father's day special and two 6oz patties topped with cheese and bacon mothered in a sweet bread bun! It would be rude not to!

We walk past here all of the time and decided to treat the children. The food was lovely, very tasty, the service fantastic - very polite waitress. For us though it was just that little bit over priced for burgers. We paid £70 for 4 burgers and 4 soft drinks, that would put me off eating here very often and we eat out a lot! Shame as we would definitely be back more often.

Wanted to visit here for weeks but having our own restaurant in Ludlow made paying a visit difficult but finally we did and it was well worth the wait! Friendly staff and amazing surroundings, I had the ‘godfather burger’ and my partner had the Halloumi burger both delicious, sadly no room for dessert but next time definitely!

My wife is American and I lived there for 10 years and have eaten burgers at some of the finest short order restaurants in the U.S. The burger I had at Lyon's Den was up there with the best of them. I had the bacon cheeseburger and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. The location and decor were very nice and the staff super friendly and helpful. We will be returning to Shrewsbury in the near future and I know where I'm going for dinner the first night.

Me and my boyfriend were on holiday in Shrewsbury for the weekend, we heard of Lyons den on trip advisor so booked a table. The restaurant was clean and had lovely fair lights and wall art. I had the lyons burger and it was amazing , portion sizes were perfect and the service was quick and professional. We both had the cheesecake of the week which was Reece’s pieces! It was incredible but we couldn’t quite finish. I would totally recommend coming here.

Brought the family here for a treat. The portions were good and the children were pleased as they served chips with everything. The only thing that let the place down was the smell of damp.

Went here with a group of friends for my husbands birthday, as there were six of us and the place is small we had to preorder which wasn’t a problem.

Came for a birthday - felt very rushed to get out once we had literally just finished and the plates hadn’t even been taken away ! Felt quite rude considering it was a birthday (which was made clear) and we had pre ordered food which came out as soon as we arrived - so we had not out stayed our welcome.

Just had a fantastic meal here,been coming here now for just over 2 years & it never disappoints,staff are incredibly personable & friendly,nothing too much trouble & very willing to listen & help should you want to change anything on the menu as much as is reasonably possible,but when you get the food....wow,burgers are stunning,the extras-chips/onion rings etc are great,the desserts are incredible-should you have room for them which isn’t guaranteed!!!! Can’t recommend Lyons den highly enough!!

What an absolutely stunning little gem! From the minute you walk down the stairs to the minute you try to walk back up them (because you will be so full!) the whole experience is sensational. Service is friendly and genuine without being fake as you so often find these days, menu has something for everyone and arrives with just the right time between starter and main and dessert. Love the option to go "skinny" and have no bun, opting for half salad and half cheesy chips which I know kind of isn't skinny at all but I often end up leaving my bread in other establishments so I love this option, and the salad was so fresh and crispy I felt I could have dessert, believe me, you have to have dessert! The cheesecake is just the best, ever! I know access isn't great if you are disabled but that is due to the nature and history of the building, not the lack of understanding of the staff, and some people have said it's pricey, but it is, as it says a gourmet burger bar, and, gourmet is most certainly what you will get. It is the best place to go in Shrewsbury, by far.

I have given Lyons' Den a 3 star rating after much thought as I try to make positive reviews about all the eating establishments I visit but found this a little hit and miss.

I would eat the halloumi burger and twice cooked fries every day if I could. Great options for vegetarians (which is a bit of a struggle in Shrewsbury at times) and meat eaters alike. The staff are always really friendly and the service is great. Always the first place I recommend when people ask me where to go for food in Shrewsbury!

Used Trip Advisor to find somewhere in Shrewsbury on a day out. Fancied a burger and was looking for something above the fast food norm. Reviews were good so we found it. We hadn't booked but it was mid afternoon and there was space. I would imagine at lunchtimes on a Sat forget it so book!!!!!

Price was totally worth it. My burger was cooked to perfection and the chips were freshly cooked. Lovely ambiance inside the restaurant and very friendly staff.

I have visited this restaurant several times in the last few months and I have to say its excellent. The choice is wonderful, catering for every possible need. Everything is cooked fresh and its great value for money too.
