Lymewood Farm - Farmhouse Inns in St. Helens

Great family pub can get quite busy. Has decent carvery plus a traditional menu with big range of desserts that you can cake away. One of our go tos for a meal out for good value.

We had the cheese burger with fries and coleslaw, which was ok yet the burger meat could be better. You can exchange the fries for jacket potato. I decided on the home made lemon cake with ice-cream for dessert; this was delicious and a good portion (I took half home), hence I considered it a reasonable price. The staff were friendly yet the service was slow considering there were not many customers at the time we went and ordered. We will go back, but I think I shall stick to the carvery as it's always so tasty, all freshly made with a good selection of everything. If I had chosen this it would have been four stars👍

Been going to the lymewood for a while. Excellent food well priced and the staff are always warm and welcoming. The pub is kept clean and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good atmosphere, good food without breaking the bank.

This place is very tired and in need of refurbishment. The seats were torn and the table top was loose. Food was poor.

The food was lovely, I had the fish supper, Fish, scampi and 2 battered sausage with Chips and mushy peas with a gravyboat full of curry sauce. It was really nice. Kath had a standard roast dinner with all the bits an bobs. She had 3 different meats and and plenty of it. Been here a few times, bit dissapointed they've took the 12oz ribeye steak off the menu but the food is all good quality scran,and I highly recommend it but book first or you will be dissapointed as its busy all the time with 2 hour waits on a sunday if you havent booked.

Serves a purpose but not the sort of place you'd go for a special occasion

Interesting layout/Service, bar tables felt dumped in the middle of the pub so people knocking into you all the time, good selection of beer/ cider, food looked good but wouldn't touch self service people breathing on the food 🤢,

Do make regular trips here as the food is often great, but this place can be hit and miss, sadly this is mainly due to the staff, some are great and some are terrible, it just depends on the day who you get. The food is the best part of the pub, hot and tasty with a good variety if your not a fan of the carvery. If you could sort out the dead wood in some of your staff this place would be a gem.

Went for a carvery turkey was very bloody and vegetables were so hard couldn’t chew them they might aswell been raw

Lovely pub only complaint would be when working the Carvery make sure your gravy and condiments are full, don't just keep serving the meat.

Ordered a too good to go and staff were great. It was raining so we ordered drinks and ate it inside and the manager was very chill about it. We apologised for using the cutlery and he said it was okay and made us feel welcome. Thank you Buffet breakfast was lovely and warm and had lots of flavour thank you :)

Great place for a carvery meal.

The person serving on the carvery counter was rude and snatched our tickets off us, he asked me what do you want, I asked for all 3 meats he tried to cut the turkey and said do u really want turkey, then handed me my plate, as we was sitting at our table a young girl was staring at my granddaughter all the time and made her feel very uncomfortable, we will not be coming back

Carvery is ok, absolutely packed Sundays be prepared to que 45mins for food, during week is much better

Buffet breakfast was very good, very fresh. Got there for opening time on a Sunday and there was no delay at the tills, nor was there a queue at the buffet. Catered for a decent sized group of us with no problem. Will be back.

Lovely place to go for a carvey . If there are a few of you , it would be better to book a table as it gets very busy

The carvery here is always value for money. A great choice of vegetables, gravy and sauces.

Upon arrival we was greeted by a polite young male named Bailey . Our food was wonderful from the carvery section followed by some delicious desserts brought to us be the very same Bailey . Bailey was very apologetic when he couldn’t cater to my sons dairy allergy as unfortunately they were out of lemon sorbet . Well done Bailey

Booked table for 4 in adult seated area, given table no on arrival, made our way to table, table not ready had to ask staff to clean, children sat in area, ( not a problem but did book an adult only area), food great but given 3 stars due to poor service

Stopped half way though a long drive for food. Pleasant and good food.

Before I'd even tasted the food could tell it wasn't going to be that good. The roast potatoes were dry as a bone and stone cold, and so where the supposedly fresh ones. Bringing food out in plastic containers so I'm not surprised. The meat was nice enough, but the veg was cold and overcooked. Now going onto the stuffing, never seen anything so soggy that I actually thought it was porridge at first. Now we'll go onto the price - £36 for 2 standard roasts, a pint of Morretti and a kopperberg. Place was clean but when staff see you waiting to be served with a menu in your hand at the bar but go and serve someone else thats a little rude, I'm not really into that. Don't think I'd be going again 😕

I appreciate it was breakfast however there was no one to welcome us when we arrived we just had to make our own way in and sit somewhere The food was not piping hot as expected and you felt had to rush to eat it while warm The toaster didn't toast the bread properly it had to have 2-3 cycles before the bread was toasted The staff that were on were having loud conversations about their duties and shifts the full width of the pub quite loudly also shouting Things like "get me some more milk" as well This along with other details shared out loud were clearly heard by myself and I suspect all the diners around our area Also when leaving no one said thanks and goodbye I know it's a little thing however in my experience it's the lasting impression that people remember had I walked out having been thanked and bid a farewell I may have reflected upon my visit differently

It was busy at first,due to the time we went,that aside the 3 of us had a good time,the carvery was great the steak we asked for was medium rare it was cooked great,all the food was good,we even had 3 piece of red velvet cake,that we took home. It was a good way to celebrate my birthday The place was clean the staff friendly,they even found pigs in blankets without the blankets for 1 of my family who does not eat bacon. I would go there again to celebrate my birthday. Want to say thanks to the staff for making it stress free

Went for Staff Christmas Breakfast. Decent enough

I have had a lovely experience today. First of all Lewis on the carvery was very attentive and knowledgeable. All the food was full, fresh and very tasty with lots of options available. We all was served with a smile. The atmosphere was lovely, lots of family gatherings celebrating different occasions. We all will be back again very soon.

The staff were very friendly and polite. The food arrived really quick and was pleasant to eat, one waitress even gave my twins some ice cream and interacted with them, definitely will return for another family meal.

Absolutely brilliant we had christmas dinner at 12oclock and the staff were so welcoming just like a great big family we will definitely be booking for next christmas 🎄 😊

This has to be the worst place I've eaten in a very very long time. The service from the office set was utterly horrendous. You have to wait by a booth to be seated, and we waited and was seen by a waitress and got told to wait. There were two waitresses when entering, neither of them busy, yet several minutes had passed before we were even seen to. Ordered food via the app, and food becomes out of availability once it was put into the basket. Drink prices are expensive where the coke we ordered was £3.50, and the glasses wasn't even full. Ordered a white peach lemonade which tasted nothing like peach, and looked nothing like advertised in the picture, it was more cordial looking. When food finally arrives they have mixed up the plates and didn't serve the meals as described on the menu. Mine was supposed to be chips and coleslaw, but I got additional salad on my plate, whereas the other dish was supposed to be salad and coleslaw, but came with chips and coleslaw. Now to get to the very worst part. The bean burger. This was no way cooked thoroughly, it tasted like savoury chewing gum. I think a child could have created something tastier using play dough. After the meal, I said this makes me wish I'd have just ate at home. Next time I need to charge the car and eat, I'll sit and charge the car and eat at home. Anything else would have been better than this dire place. Really really DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Food was very underwhelming. We opted for bean burgers they were the chewiest things ever and I could've sworn just defrosted in microwave not cooked. They used wrong sauce on them and put the side salad on another plate with wrong meal. Only upside was that we then ended up with fries extra. They ask you to wait to be seated yet there was barely anyone in and you order on app anyway, yes there have been table that had reserved on it so you'd naturally avoid those. Unnecessary wait at the door...

I enjoy breakfast here. I just wish they did more vegan/gluten free. The staff are lovely. The coffee is great and the surroundings are convivial. I visit for breakfast with my husband every couple of weeks... Yum! ☺️

Food gone shocking in this place! Used to love coming here and food was always really good! But unfortunately last couple of times I’ve been the food isn’t good. Burgers are like cardboard, changed the chips to fries and they aren’t cooked long enough. Menu says you get coleslaw with burgers but the past 3 times I’ve been been given no coleslaw. Not sure if they’ve changed management or what but not as nice as it used to be! 😩😒

Excellent food and fantastic service. Especially by Corey who went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable experience and rushed through an additional delayed order

Pretty decent farmhouse inn, carvery looked really good but we opted for steak which wasn't the best although edible. Cake away was great, and the staff really make this place what it is, really friendly and helpful

This used to be my favourite carvery, but it is quite a few years since I was there. So I decided to have a ride there, and treat ourselves. We opted for the carvery, and that was a huge mistake, I do admit the meat,gammon, was spot on, unfortunately everything else was not. The roast potatoes and parsnips were were burnt, cremated in fact, the boiled potatoes were'nt cooked and the sprouts were poor specimens. I have given you one star for service, bacause we served ourselves. I even noticed someone behind the counter touching a dog, while serving food. That in any books is a big NONO

Nice clean pub, there is a really good selection of food and the prices were ok. 8 think I made a mistake by ordering a salad. Some of the food on the plate was a little past its best but still edible, there was a decent amount of meat on the plate from the carvery. My friend had the carvery and it looked ok but she said there wasn't much choice with the veg, the meat again was good. But this pub is known for its cakes which my other friend had. It was a large piece of carrot cake and it looked lovely and tasty. I'd definitely say go for the cakes if you want something a little different.

Food was quite good , service was slow at the bar ( it wasnt very busy either)and it took about an hour for staff to clear the tables after we had eaten !

We had precooked a table for 4pm. (4 adults and 2 children) The table was far from being ready when we arrived which wasn't ideal having a 2 and 3 year old with us. When we were seated. We ordered fairly easy on the app. After 45 minutes waiting for starters, we asked were they were and they magically appeared. But the kids starters didn't arrive and I had to ask again for these. The same happened with the main meals, they had obviously been sat there for a while as the food was dried up and hard when it arrived. My children are very well behaved but got bored of waiting for the food and were in the play area where there was 13 year old kids throwing stuff and being boisterous in a play area for under 5s.. i come here quite often but I'm afraid I won't be returning. We wish we had stayed at home.

Booked 2 specific tables for boxing day as my son is autistic and won't sit on chair has to be a bench sitting. Only to get there and be told they moved us due to a bigger party so we got put else where. Explained that we had to have a bench so got moved again where we then had our backs to family members. Plus I found a hair in the prawn cocktail. our table wasn't set nicely either compared to other tables didn't even have napkins. Also didn't get the extras we ordered with our meals

Sorry this place was not upto it's normal standard was kept waiting by the door asked by 2 staff what the booking name was n the first person never came back while checking on the table situation the 2nd did come back n we where lead to stand by the play area while they cleaned the table. We order food which never came for 45 minutes then they forgot to do the kids starters waited again for the mains for everyone, another 15 minutes wait in the meantime we ordered more drinks which came to the table with the wrong thing. The meat on the carvery, was cut so paper thin wasnt worth eating as no tasting it, the veg on the carvery was so over cooked it was sloppy, the parsnips were very greasy as where the roasted potatoes. Never bothered with dessert as by this time just wanted to go home as th kids aged 2 n 4 had gone past eating there meals, we know it's a bank holiday but if you take to many booking n dont have enough staff on then that's where a lot of the issues lay could see the faults due to the amount of dirty tables being left. Greenking get this place sorted so we can go back again without all the hassle we did give them time due to bank holiday, but will think twice about going back here n wouldn't recommend here, try one of the other g/k pubs near by

Great Carvey, but make sure you book a table ahead of time as it gets really busy at certain times. Leave space for one of their amazing cakes... or take one home with you for later.

Took my daughter and her boyfriend today, for a carvery. And again I wasn't disappointed. The food was piping hot and as tasty as always. Great customer service by Spencer also, which rounded up our excellent experience.

Go to Lymewood Farm once a month to meet friends for lunch. Booking is a must as it gets very busy at lunchtime. The food is nice and reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly, one in particular sticks out and that is Jade. If you ask her for anything nothing is too much trouble, we have asked her to chase our hot drinks, for sauces, for extra cutlery and a receipt for our food after we have paid. She does everything with a smile. The only negative I can say about this pub is it needs more disabled car park spaces. There are two spaces for a car park that must hold at least 70 cars. I always have to park at the back of the car park where no one can park on my drivers side as I need to open my door wide. This means I have to walk further to the front door and every step causes pain.

I was disappointed. It was very busy which was a sign that it was a good place to eat, however, the dish I wanted was sold out and the alternative was okay but nothing special. They forgot some of the order so we had to ask for it. There were very few staff so we had to track someone down. It was an okay place but not a patch on the Juniper Farms Farmhouse Inns restaurant. I would not choose to go again.

It's really is cheap and cheerful pub

We booked to come here at 3.15pm on Friday after we had attended a family funeral. When we arrived a member of staff said go past the carvery and our table was 12 and 13. There would be someone else working down there that would show us to our table.... there's wasn't but we found our table. It was really cold. We all sat with our coats on. It said it was easy to order online so I did. I ordered food and drinks at 15.30. A few mins before 4pm two of the mixed grills came out. We still had no drinks. I asked the waitress where our drinks were and what happened about us getting our carveries, she said follow me and I'll get your tickets and the drinks were being made. By the time we got our carvery and sat down the two people having the mixed grills had finished and still had no drinks. I must say the member of staff on the carvery was very good and very polite. We did want to toast to our mum/nan but we just ate and left. We didn't even have desserts as the customer service was dismal and it was cold. No one asked was our food ok or anything. Customer service really needs to be looked at.

Lewis behind the carvery counter was a lovely young man. It’s a rare thing to find good customer service these days but he went above and beyond to look after our needs. He carried my friends plate back to the table as she was using a crutch and within 15mins I caught sight of him escorting an old lady back to her table carrying her plate for her. What a diamond you have there.

Not even kidding, probably the worst plate of food I’ve had EVER.

We were stopping at the premier Inn across the road. Which also entitled us to a 10% discount. Food was really hot and had the breakfast too which was a buffet breakfast. Really good value for the money

Simple, but well done food and a friendly and quick service.

Starters didn't arrive all together, number of excuses made. Carvery was ok, the pudding was huge and delicious. The staff were friendly and talked lovely with the kiddies.

Ordered two “carvery and cake” deals for home delivery, topping £40 in the process (but that's the price of being lazy on a Sunday). I've been strung by other Greene King franchise sites before when it comes to delivery but to be fair this one did a good job. Would have been nice to have more gravy (and more generous meat that the small slices given) but all in all they did okay.

Best food around! The chip shop supper is well worth the price and super filling and can never skip on the cakeaway especially those vanilla slices :) service with a smile always too :)

Came with my 8 month old and the service from Mirelle was absolutely amazing. She helped get me an additional plate so I could cool downfood for my son and even got him some peas to try! She was fantastic!!

Carvery was pretty tasteless, vegetables had no flavour left in them, beef was so tough my mum couldn't even chew it and another piece the knife wouldn't cut! Potatoes aren't usual roast potatoes, they were dry and not crispy and gravy was just wet with no flavour. Took ages to get the app to work and when I tried to log in it constantly wanted to verify my email code log, tried 4 times so I could get my discount voucher but it never worked and the voucher disappeared without me being able to use it. App confusing with no description as to exactly what was included in the carvery, so ended up ordering extra Yorkshire as it didn't look like they were included, but they were and no sizes mentioned on the soft drinks, so hard to judge what size you want. Staff were really nice and friendly though and lots of customers were enjoying themselves, but I didn't enjoy the food and probably wouldn't go again due to problems with confusing app and lack of quality food. Also grill still not working, which from other reviews I can see its now been not working for a couple of months, not having a working grill really limits the choice available.

Need another place for takeaway food to be collected.long qué for sit down carvery.order drinks on app and came 20 mins later needs to look after customers better.staff are great but need more guidance.

Visited the lymewood for lunch was quite impressed with the the service that was offered I felt that covid 19 safety measures they have are excellent and felt very safe in the restaurant and you have the added bonus of the 50% discount which is on offer,All in all a very good visit and congratulations to all the staff for their polite & prompt service definitely worth a 5* rating

Just wanted a tasty lunch. We had chicken and stuffing wrap with chips and gravy. It was fantastic a busy time we had not booked but we were shown to a table quickly. The food and drinks were served to our table quickly. I really enjoyed my lunch very tasty. Thanks to all the staff.
