Lyme's Fish Bar on the beach in West Dorset

Avoid if vegan / veggie. They clearly advertise vegan sausage + chips / vegan pie and chips but when asked we were told everything is cooked in the same oil and not separated - which in turn defeats the point of calling it vegan and is very misleading for customers.

Thin batter, hard chips and over priced. Won't be going back. Rubbish vinegar in fact a rubbish and expensive meal.

Looks like this has recently moved to under Poco Pizza, so apologies if the location seems wrong. We stopped to sit on the beach and caught the smell of fish and chips, despite the beach being busy we didn't have to wait too long, and had a simple effective method of one person taking orders and the rest cooking. When we got our food, we were blown away with how good the food was, and had some food envy seeing the other orders!!!

We bought fish and chips today for my son from this shop, after 10-15 minutes of eating those my son started to feel sick. He was constantly saying he is feeling nauseous when we reached home he started vomiting. He vomit 2-3 times since then i suspect they don’t have good quality of oil and they don’t change the oil often. Worst fish and chips ever. Do not buy from them if you don’t wanted to be sick.

Food was nice. Peas are extra but at least ketchup and mayo are free.

We went to the place on marine parade next to poco pizza. We sat outside and had squid and chips x2 scampi &chips and cheesy chips. The food was cooked perfectly even the squid. This is probably the best fish and chips I have ever had and I’m 58 now so I’ve eaten a lot of fish &chips in my life and this stands out, exceptional. Friendly service, cooked to order and a really short wait, at a reasonable price with great portions. Even the kids ate it all. Outstanding place.

Had such a nice takeaway from here. We were looking for a good one that did proper chip shop chips to takeaway and sit on the beach, and this one was perfect! Another in our group had the squid and they loved that too!

Superb fish n chips. Fish was white and flaky, and the chips were cooked to perfection. A bit of a queue, but it's well worth the wait.

We always use this takeaway, yesterday used their new one further towards the amusements and ordered haddock and chips. The haddock batter was awful tasted like yorkshire pudding and like it hadn't been freshly cooked, the chips were tasteless and the vinegar and tomato sauce were cheap alternatives to decent brands. If you are paying over £12 per meal for food at least provide a decent sauce instead of the runny basics that you provide, also batter isn't difficult, you are the experts. Very disappointed.

I was really hungry and ordered 2 fish and chips ,one came back as cod and chips But one just came back as just chips . As well as that my food was hardly impressive , I was really confused when they asked for my receipt back and I won’t be coming back here again.

Way overpriced. Overcooked / standard fare. Cheap vinegary ketchup. Staff were blunt, to put it mildly. Menu is weirdly prescriptive.

Worst chippy experience ever. Old oil tasting and rubbery. Terrible customer care. Awful packaging.

I dont know if we were just lucky or what, but our food was a solid contender for the best fish and chips we have ever had! Absolutely fantastic. Yes, there was a small wait and a little queue but what do you expect on the beach at lunch time? Perfectly reasonable service speed considering freshly cooked food. The price was a little expensive but again... On the beach in a tourist town. Probably not the cheapest rent etc so I understand the pricing. The fish were freshly cooked to order. Chips were not cooked to order but given the amount of orders etc they were pretty much straight out the fryer as well. All in all highly recommended.

It was a great stop off as you walked along the Lyme regis beach, The fish was ok, chips were ok and food was fresh.

I understand the location of it being pricey BUT the QUALITY and PORTIONS is a joke! I had to get more food from elsewhere as we were still hungry. The batter needs to be sorted out.

Soggy, cold chips with sour cheese, and the nuggets which used to be great are now fake McDonald's nuggets that tasted like cardboard. Not worth it for the price at all

Pretty tasty battered fish & chips right by the sea, good size portion and not too greasy. Did have to pay 70p for tartar sauce.

Used to be great, Went today and they’ve upped their prices (understandable) but lowered their standards. The chicken breast chunks you used to get have been replaced by a cheaper version of McDonald’s nuggets. Shameful, at over £10 you’d expect better.

Let's start with the good part. We ordered cheesy chips the previous day to eat while walking round the cob and they were plentiful and great. We returned the next day for dinner and the experience was somewhat different. I ordered a 1/4 pound cheeseburger and chips for £10 and it was awful. A 10p day old bun, a 50p deep fried burger and a 10p unmelted cheese slice. No garnish, or sauce. I would have been embarrassed to serve it at a home BBQ let alone from a food outlet. My wife ordered a cod and chips. Again chips were plentiful but the fish was unseasoned and tastless. Now I don't do fish so I can't comment on that. But I do like a good burger, so on that respect it was a total fail for me. I should have stuck to the jumbo sausage for half the price. That probably would have been OK. Apart from that, great venue, really nice staff and good service.

Friendly, polite staff and the absolute best cod and chips in Lyme. So good. Cooked to order, delicious flaky cod in crispy batter (no soggy bits) and I ate every last one of the chips which is highly unusual for me to do so. I’ll be returning when I’m next in Lyme.

Great cod and chips. Flaky fish, tasty batter, chips were perfect (for me) too - plumpish and not too greasy. Short wait time despite it being lunchtime on Sunday. Good portion - couldn't close the box but managed to eat nearly all of it. Bang on.

Probably the worst piece of fish I have had in years, inedible. It was bone dry, grey crumbled to nothing when touched and totally tasteless. The batter was greasy and soggy. A real disappointment. The chips were average.

Soggy pasty warmed up in microwave. Sent it back. Second pasty soggy, told “it’s from the microwave”. Offered a refund in cash even though payment made on card. Two of the pound coins given in refund were fake along with a foreign coin passed of a 5p. Polite but decidedly dodgy and rank pasties. Go the bakery on the roundabout.

Fabulous fish and chips right on the front. Big portions, the fish is flakey but meaty and the batter is crispy.

Second time in two years absolutely 💯

Ordered burger and chips yesterday. Burger was rubbery like it was re heated from yesterday. Chips were good. Also sausage and chips. Sausage wasn't good either. No tea or coffee. Would only have chips if I used them again. I don't normally write bad reviews but it might save some else from wasting their money. Need to have fresher meat products.

Only Haddock available. Chips weren't cooked properly and fish was overcooked and discoloured. Very disappointed

Brought chips on a Saturday at around 12pm and I was served up yesterday's chips. They were that bad the seagulls didn't even want them. AVOID

Had fish and chips from here 29th March 2022 by the time I had paid they were on the counter found a bench to eat them and what a waste of money that was. Fish was absolutely full of grease and soggy batter probably the worse I have ever had and over priced for what it was. Chips was also very greasy

Had cod, chips and curry sauce it was excellent. After popped back in the chip shop and spoke to the guy in there and thanked him for a excellent lunch 😃😃

Had Fish, Chips and Peas, Friday Sept 24th Possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had Fish did not look fresh and didn't flake Batter was soggy and uncooked, even after a 15 minute wait while it was cooked fresh !! Chips had little to no potato and we're like dregs of a cheap bag of frozen chips Peas were marrowfat not mushy Glad we shared one portion and didn't have a portion each Over half portion went in the bin You've been warned

I only leave reviews of either very good or very bad.  Now we are all aware there has been a pandemic and this has effected lots of people and business however what I don't fathom is business taking the proverbial out of visitors.  Some will certainly price themselves out of sucess when folks are happy to holiday abroad.  took lots of orders and allowed folks to queue up then casually mentioned that they didn't have enough chips to fulfil the orders paid for, over the top prices for some very poor food ( we visited twice) Sorry.

I had a lovely meal, however I have a couple of complaints. For a start, the wait was a while, which is something I would expect to not be present at a fish shop, even though the queue is quick. Secondly, whilst waiting, I stuck my head around the door, and hygienic is not a word I would use. There were chips scattered across the floor, paper everywhere, flies, and grime and gunk in the corners. A nice meal, but some hidden points. The staff were friendly though!

Great fish, never too oily. Crisp chips. Good sized portions, always a struggle to finish a regular cod and chips on your own! Not the cheapest fiah and chips ever but for the location I think it's a fair price. Just watch out for the gulls who will try and get in on the action too!

It was okay. Fish was good with a really light batter. Chips were over cooked and a bit disappointing, think the oil needed changing. Maybe better on a different day.

I have eaten fish and chips all round the world and I was taken aback by the quality and presentation, despite Covid restrictions. The best I've eaten, bar none. Well done!

Ok. Lets be fair about this. Portion size good, bit pricey but for the amount ok. The chips we were excellent, 4.5 * but we had cheesey ones. I used to eat this in New York before it became trendy here, the cheese is always melted, in the UK the cheese has been always melted or sauce. We got 2 large cups of cheap cheddar bunged on top, way too much cheese, 1 cup would still have been too much and it needed putting under the grill! We spent 10 minutes scraping the cheese of into the bin. Totally ruined the chips.

According to Google, Lymes Fish Bar on the Beach serves Gluten Free Fish and Chips. According to their staff, they do not serve any gluten free food.

The fish and chips was fine and the chips was crispy, I found the fish a little small compared to others I've had but neither or less enjoyable. It get busy so head in before everyone gets the munchies...

For the price you would expect some quality cold chips and a rubber burger wont be going back there soon.....

Food was excellent, but nearly thirty minute wait! Even though our sausages were sat on the hot plate, they wouldn't serve us until they had cooked the dozen or so fish that had been ordered ahead of us.

What’s better than fish and chips by the sea, called in for a lunch time treat, lovely freshly fish full of flavour great chips plenty of them and the kids had chicken nuggets which were very nice proper chicken ones,

Excellent fish and chips, is expensive though, savings are quite large and suitable to share with a parent and young child.

Good sized portion of well cooked fish & chips, served in a box, just keep the lid closed when seagull about!

Best chips in Lyme Regis! Got a lovey generous cone full for the “small” size, perfect to tide a couple of people over to lunch. Nothing better than a cone of chips and a walk along the Cobb.

Always the best. Just be prepared for a queue at lunchtime so get in early or later if you can.

I ordered the cheesy chips for £3.75. When I got the chips, I didn't expect to have so much. It was a filling portion and the chips were good quality too. Highly recommended if you want something quick and good

I thought the food was great. I've also used their other fish bar which was equally good!

Good food once we got it but server could not take order successfully or add up the total. But food was fine and not greasy or undercooked.
