What a gem of a place. We visited Kirby Hall which doesn't have anywhere for coffee and the lovely gentleman in the ticket shop recommended this cafe. A really good cup of tea and excellent coffee, but the cake..... All home baked and just divine. Real value for money.

After reading all the great reviews, we visited here for lunch. The coffee was so weak I couldn’t drink mine and we had to wait for 45mins for a toasted sandwich as there was only one lady cooking and she was preparing each order in turn. There was a gentleman working there, however he couldn’t use the coffee machine so the lady had to do everything. Sadly, we won’t be returning after this experience.

Went here with a walking group for lunch (neither pub in Gretton being open weekday lunchtimes in January). Only one lovely lady serving, but she dealt with our 8 orders very efficiently. Food was really good value for money (bacon rolls, toasted sandwiches etc. plus delicious range of cakes on view) & we were made to feel so welcome. Talking to others there, Lydia's Coffee Shop holds a cherished place within the community.

Visited Lydia’s coffee shop today after visiting nearby Kirby Hall. The food was lovely and so were the ladies who served us. Very friendly. The cost was really reasonable too. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Coped extremely well after being descended on by 11 walkers without notice for morning coffee. Then on requesting to come back for lunch were great.

We visited the local English Heritage property and didn’t want to head back into town for lunch so popped in here instead. A small shop, cum cafe was lovely, everyone was friendly and we had a sandwich and a drink which was freshly prepared and tasty. Worth a stop is passing and hungry

Really nice local cafe. All the cakes are homemade and top quality. Great choice of tea and coffee. Doubles as a shop for the village and valuable to the local community offering all the essentials and more. post office service twice a week to send parcels. Really homely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We visited Lydia's coffee shop yesterday as this was the house where my wife was born. The warm welcome and assistance that we received was a real delight. Everybody was so welcoming and helpful on providing information about the village and its history. In addition to this, lunch was an absolute pleasure , between the three of us we had a panini and bacon rolls with a good pot of tea and an excellent cappuccino. As for the home made cakes, they deserve a review of their own, the freshly made fruit cake that we had with lunch melted in the mouth and the carrot cake and chocolate fudge cake that we brought away with us were absolutely superb. We will willingly make the 70 mile journey again soon just to experience the warm welcome and high standard of food and service. Thank you for a lovely day.

Ideal for group coffee/cake/food stop. Very friendly and good service. Cheap and cheerful. Run by the local church group. Location is at the top of a climb so always a welcome treat after a slog...

Myself and my husband have visited Lydia's twice now, while we have been out training for a 100 mile bike ride. Visited today and Lydia and her assistant bought cappuccino's and cakes to us while we sat on the village green. The service is excellent, the cakes and coffee are amazing, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Well worth the 20 miles we cycled to get there. The cafe has such a peaceful and calming atmosphere.

I was out for a ride on my scooter. I have passed this cafe many times as the roads in and out of Gretton are great for riding however the day was hot so I decided to stop and check out the cafe The is limited parking outside As I walked in I got a warm welcome from a couple of regular customers who filled me in on how to get serviced A ding of the bell and a very pleasant lady appeared who took my order The menu is simple with a very good special board My meal was good coffee great and company very welcoming This is a church sponsored charity run cafe however do not be put off as this is not heavily featured I enjoyed my visit and will stop there again

Gretton is a quiet village perched on a hilltop In the beautiful Leicestershire countryside. Today the Flying Scotsman flew by so the village was mobbed and luckily we arrived after watching the majestic engine fly along the viaduct a few miles east. Lydia's is a wonderful tea shop run by a Christian charity but not in an 'in your face way'. There is a prayer room should you want it and fairtrade products too. Today wonderful cake, a super bacon roll (well filled), a latte and Americans all for £8. We sat on the benches next to the village stocks just on the green adjacent to Lydia's but there is wonderful seating inside. 😊

The lady at Kirby Hall recommended that we went to Lydia’s at Gretton. This was just by the Rockingham Race Circuit. Gretton is a long winding picturesque village.

Food is on point every single time. Service and atmosphere is always great too. In the bar, I've had many great nights, especially a couple of impressive live bands. I love what they do on Remembrance Sunday every year too. A really nice thing to do for all veterans & their families.

Used to be a fab little fish and chip shop. Been times over the years with various change in owners. Not sure what has happened in last few months but quality seems have gone down especially the chips. Perhaps new potato supplier needed or change of cooking fat?

Crazy that this is my local and yet I travel much further afield for a drink! I attended tonight because I saw a live band advertised. They were decent, but the staff and venue were great. I'll be returning and hopefully it'll turn into my regular
