Lychee Oriental in Glasgow City

Came here for a birthday meal. The food was nice, service quick and good atmosphere especially for a Monday evening. Marking down as the main was more warm than hot when it arrived. Flavour was good but I like my food to be hot! I did expect a bit more from the meal but still enjoyed. Staff were all lovely :)

Vine a lichi anoche para nuestra cena de cumpleaños de amigos, no decepcionó. Fue mi primera visita, está en una ubicación estupenda junto a tingle, revolución y el bar de Ross. Había un gran ambiente en el restaurante, era un sábado por la noche y parecía que la mayoría de las mesas estaban llenas. Pero no se sentía demasiado ocupado, el personal era fantástico Tenemos una mezcla de platos de comida. Entradas - tostadas de gambas, alitas de pollo de sal y pimienta y satay de pollo. Todos vienen con ensalada fresca. Nuestra principal tenemos pollo miel, pollo frito wok y frijol negro y un pollo chile rallado que se sirve en un fideo comestible al horno que se veía tan bien. Todos tuvimos que probar unos platos de otros, que era muy agradable para probar una comida que nunca pediría habitualmente. Todos los platos eran tan frescos y sabrosos. No podía fallar uno. La razón por la que quería escribir una reseña era el personal. Nunca suelo recoger mucho en el servicio, pero el personal era tan atento. Nuestras camareras eran muy amables y eficientes. Nuestro pedido fue tomado rápidamente, pero no de una manera que se sintió apresurado. Especialmente porque es un sábado por la noche. Todos nuestros platos fueron servidos al mismo tiempo. Nos registraron regularmente para más pedidos de bebidas. Tengo comida para llevar y fue encajonada y embolsada tan rápido. El servicio fue genial. Nuestra camarera era tan buena ayudándonos a separarnos y pagar la cuenta, lo que puede ser tan confuso. Yo recomendaría este restaurante. Sería genial para una comida con amigos o una noche de citas. Fue una bonita decoración por dentro, comida sabrosa, gran ubicación y un servicio increíble.

Hemos comido aquí varias veces, pero tristemente hemos sentido que el nivel de la comida ha bajado colina abajo. Los alimentos no estaban tan calientes como deberían si se cocinaban frescos y sin sabor.

Siempre hemos disfrutado del Lychee, pero lamentablemente no esta vez, fuimos un sábado y esperábamos que el menú del almuerzo estuviera disponible pero lo habían parado, solo funciona Sun - Thurs ahora, así que un menú limitado a la carta o nada, no pude conseguir un satay de ternera en pinchos ya que no lo hacen, conseguí un plato de salteado de ternera en su lugar que nunca antes había tenido, era extremadamente soso y 80% de pimientos y la carne no estaba a su nivel habitual, menos mal que la camarera muy encantadora se ofreció a cambiar el plato ya que casi no lo había tocado, esto lo compensó. Aunque no estoy seguro de que volvamos ya que fue la carne que siempre disfrutamos, pero esta vez faltó mucho, en rodajas muy finas y sin sabor.

Seperate gluten free-menu. Very friendly staff and the service was so fast. We we're served our food within five minutes after we placed our order.

Viaje de 2 noches a Glasgow. Elegido aquí la primera noche, dadas las visitas anteriores disfrutadas. No me decepcionó y esta vez probé el menú especial de mitad de semana 2 - curso. Fantástico valor. Buenas opciones con platos bien raciones, muy sabrosos. La segunda noche regresó y esta vez pidió más picante principal. No me decepcionó. Personal servicial y un servicio genuinamente feliz proporcionado aquí durante esta llamada más tranquila a mitad de semana. Ambas noches disfrutamos mucho de la comida y el ambiente aquí.

Very busy place with nice and helpful staff. They always come asking if you are alright. We enjoyed our lunch meal. Make sure you have a reservation!

Food very mediocre, myself and partner both had curry, mine was chicken and partner had beef... Came in an overly large dish with powdery, watery and way way too much sauce... Onions were raw and solid like they'd been thrown in seconds before it had been served... Fried rice was like something out of a microwave packet... But was so hungry at the time I just had to eat it... Some staff were competent and friendly and others not so easy to understand... So was pretty disappointed overall and considering it was £17 for a bowl of curry itself and had to pay for rice as a separate portion

Staff were really pleasant, efficient and accommodating. Food presentation was spot on. The food was delicious and fresh. Would definately recommend probably the best Chinese in Glasgow.

Love this place been a few times took our friends on sat and they loved their food and the restaurant only going to toilets let's it down a queue for the lift but still nice place

We came with high expectations after seeing their beautiful website and knowing the head chef has appeared on tv shows tik tok etc. However this was probably one of the worst meals out we have ever experienced from the off. It took 25 mins to get our drinks. We had finished our starters by The time they came. The cocktails were awful really watered down and full of ice. Service was non existent. We had quite a rude and abrupt server. We felt very rushed and not relaxed at all. Apart from the server coming with food we didn’t see anyone else so getting any additional drinks was non existent. One of our party members asked for a glass of water 3 times and eventually got it after flagging a rushed waitress down. As for the food our starters were lovely but the mains lacked flavour and I don’t think the quality of the food matches the prices it was really expensive for what we got. Asked for the bill as we wanted to get out and noticed they had stuck at £21 service charge to our bill considering we had pretty much no service I asked for this to be taken off. Over all we felt very rushed and disappointed I would not recommend this place and I would not return to eat here. Also re the toilets that’s an experience on its own. One toilet to share for the whole restaurant or you can go down to a cellar if you want to use the other one. Not great.

Restaurant was very busy for a monday night, but was amazing. Waitresses were great, food and drink order taken very quickly and the food came out relatively quick also. Quite expensive for what you get however food was delicious, will be back

Extremely disappointed. 4.30 for dinner and the place was like a cattle market with even more people queuing outside. Don’t know why as the food was mediocre. Couldn’t even hear ourselves think never mind talk. Sitting far too close to others. As a couple we want to go out and relax for a few hours over a nice meal…. Avoid if this is what you expect also. In and out within an hour and totally rushed.

We went here with high expectations. The food itself was of mixed quality (about which more in a moment) but the night was already spoiled from the outset by an incredibly abrupt and unpleasant waitress (who came over to take our order, although thankfully she didn't come back to your table: the rest of the waiting staff were delightful. We did notice this first waitress causing similar reactions to ours at other tables, however). Ok, the food... we had a mixed starters platter which was pretty good - particularly good chicken skewers and satay sauce. No complaints here, The two main courses - the Thai chilli extra-matured ribeye beef, and the roast duck with mushrooms in oyster sauce were of mixed quality. In the Thai chilli, the sauce was overly sweet (the spare ribs in the starter platter were also sweet) and the ribeye, no matter how extra-matured, was simply tough. Not good quality meat in a thin over-sweet sauce. The duck was better, although some people might prefer the skin to be crispy and the fat rendered before being covered in the rather gloopy oyster sauce. Perhaps with a different experience at the outset of the meal, we might have enjoyed it more. But, as it was, not a great night. And for as long as the restaurant condones that sort of attitude from its staff, we won't give it another chance. By the way, it adds an automatic 12.5% service charge to the bill.

I will start by saying I have been once before and it was a 5 out of 5 experience, however this time no where near it, mixed platter to start was really nice, both main meals one with duck which was fatty with a tasteless sauce, a 1 out of 10 experience, my partner had king scallops which were under cooked and again with a flavourless sauce, she left three quarters of this meal, again 1 out of 10 for this meal, we reluctantly shared a dessert which turned out to be the best course all night, staff were excellent and asked why we had left so much of the main but didn’t have the heart to complain especially as it was a valentines night dinner, unfortunately it has put us off going back, maybe an off night which anyone can have but both mains for a combined £42 where so bad, overall spent £136 including tip ( as staff as always were very attentive ) and left hungry and unsatisfied.

Fabulous food, best Chinese we have had for ages we live in Edinburgh and worth the journey, only thing our table was quite close to one on each side.

Being a retired RN Submariner, I'm used to being crammed in, but I felt a bit like a battery hen in this place. Food and service were good, but spent a lot of time being polite to people trying to squeeze on by. There was about a 2" gap to the table next to us, so it's not a good place for a romantic option!

Had a wonderful dinner with 3 friends on a busy Saturday night. From the moment we stepped inside the staff were friendly, available and attentive - which was appreciated considering how busy it was! Already looking forward to going back. Thanks again!

It was a lovely restaurant. The food was good. The portions could be bigger. The decor was nice. We just had WiFi issues as it didn’t work.

We were booked for 4pm on a Thursday and it was understandably busy with Christmas lunches. Arrived a bit early and shown to our table. Food was nice (only set Xmas lunch menu available which we weren’t aware of when we booked). However we were in and out in under 50 minutes for a 3 course meal. We felt rushed and as soon as one course was finished the next was on the table immediately. Staff seemed very harassed. Unsure of percentage of the Lychee beer as we were told 5% and 4.7% by two different members of staff!

Great food, interior is lovely and staff are very friendly but booking the restaurant was a bit difficult at the start. Recommend the lychee mocktail and the spicy crispy shredded chicken!

Some of the best food I've ever had. Flavours are unreal! The food that you see is very succulent and flavours are out of this world. Staff are very tentative and friendly if you ever need anything they are constantly on hand to get you anything right away. Highly recommend.

Avoid this is one of the worst Chinese meals I have ever had in Glasgow my starter was veg pancakes they were so greasy and looked like they had been cooked before for my main course I had beef curry the best was so chewy and the curry sauce was full of water first time trying this restaurant I never be back 🤮

First visit after seeing instagram reviews. We booked ahead and were taken straight to our table. The decor is really nice and modern and the music not too loud. Our drinks came out minutes later and our food was quite quick too. I was a bit wary of the food due to some negative comments on trip adviser but I’m glad I went….. the food was top drawer! The ingredients were all fresh and a good sized portion. I tried my wife’s too and her chilli beef was unreal! Special mention to the staff, they were really friendly and stopped to chat a few times to make sure we had everything. I also wrote on the booking form it was my wife’s birthday and with not a word said, they came out before the bill with a small cake for her which was really special. In all, top marks for the food backed up by a great team of staff who made our visit a special one. Absolutely no doubt we will be back and recommend this place! 10/10!!

Ann was an amazing waitress, gf honey chilli chicken was outstanding, slight issue with our other dish but Ann the waitress was amazing in how she managed this. Great restaurant, Ann could work for Gordon Ramsey, highly recommend

Ghastly food cooked in months old oil. Lemon chicken virtually inedible, fried noodle dish tasted burnt. Avoid this restaurant.

Was expecting good food and service from “the best chinese restaurant in scotland”, but service and the food was so bad we had to leave a review! The sweet and sour chicken was so salty and the lemon chicken was practically just chicken with vinegar squirted all over it (food was cold). We could hear servers talking behind our backs in cantonese as well. Overall, terrible experience and we do not recommend coming back.

Made booking for three for lunch on a Saturday. Friendly greeting and shown to our table. The restaurant quickly filled up with other guests so glad that we made the booking. Nice, relaxed setting in the dining area. Small criticism is that the lighting is very dim so found it a little difficult to read the menu. The lunch menu offers very good value with two courses for £15, and the portions are more than ample. All the dishes we ordered were nicely presented, well cooked and delicious. Chicken satay was delicious as were the chicken wings, the lemon chicken a delight. Delicious food, friendly waiting staff, reasonable prices - fecommended!

My first time at Lychee for a Birthday celebration with family and was not disappointed, food was fantastic and staff and service was excellent we will definitely be back.

Ghastly food. Lukewarm starters. Crispy lemon chicken had been fried in fat that should have been changed weeks ago, thus it smelt bad and tasted worse. Crispy fried noodles tasted burnt, that fat again? When clearing the half eaten food away the waitress did offer to bring something else, but by then we didn't want to risk anything else. Money was taken off the bill, but we'd far rather paid full price for an edible meal.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant staffed by excellent servers. We were sooo excited to try the beautiful dishes they brought us - prawn toast, king pao chicken and beef with asparagus and chili - they looked so good. Sadly, the food was average at best - the chicken was not freshly cooked and the coating was mush, the beef wasn’t tender and the prawn toast was meh. Such a disappointment….they charged $1.5 pound for a small serving of chili oil as well. If they just elevated their kitchen quality a tad, they could really have a true gem in Glasgow.

Best Chinese we've had in a long time. Beautiful restaurant, super friendly staff and the food was absolutely delicious. Great value for money, high recommended! We can't wait to return. It gets really busy especially on the weekend so make sure and book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Always a delight. Greeted immediately by friendly staff who are all very well trained in their role. Very up to date with allergies, so very coeliac friendly. Lovely and cosy atmosphere, food is terrific.

On arrival at the restaurant we had booked a table for 17..30pm with a email confirmation but the the table was reserved on the booking systems but the actual table wasn't reserved. The girl found us a table but advised us we only had 1 hr. They took our food & drinks order & brought our starter which was fine but with 5 minutes of finishing our starter they arrived with our main dish which was too soon. We had barely finished our food when the girls brought our bill without us asking for it. SO NO MORE DRINKS FOR US THEN!!!!!!! We sat down at 17.30 and where basically ushered out at 18.00. When the girl came to collect the payment which was cash only she asked us if we wanted our change UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Impressive restaurant, food was amazing & the service was fast considering how busy it was on a Friday night. Would recommend although be mindful of the 12% service charge for groups of 5 and over.

We were in Glasgow for one night and were recommended Lychee Oriental. We were not disappointed! We didn’t book and we arrived early (just before 6) and the 2 of us were seated quickly. The decor is lovely. The food service was lightning fast which really impressed us, and surprised us as the restaurant was fairly busy. The staff were really lovely, the service was great. The food was amazing and we both said it’s a shame this isn’t close to us because we’d definitely come back. Great food, great service and reasonable price. 5* from us!

I had lunch here with my friend today. Lovely lunch..friendly and fast service..beautiful setting and atmosphere..I highly recommend the Lychee.

JUST CHINESE SLOP! Food was absolutely awful. I'm not sure where all these good reviews are coming from because it was so underwhelming! The egg fried rice was missing egg, the beef was rotten and I'm only glad there wasn't a lot of it but it was poor how little there was. The shredded chicken was like it had been put through an actual shredder. The noodles were stuck together and the whole meal lacked freshness! It lacked everything! Won't be back, shocked at how many people put up with shitty mediocre food. What is going on in the world! JUST A PLATE OF SLOP! AWFUL! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

Went for lunch and had a lovely meal. Really enjoyed the lychee daiquiri cocktail, which I had 2 of. Good value, but the drinks do make it slightly expensive for a lunch, which is optional.

First visit. Beautifully decorated restaurant. Would recommend booking as extremely busy Saturday late afternoon. We had booked our table and were able to get seated a bit earlier. Food was delicious, generous main portions, staff friendly and good atmosphere. Toilets are a bit of a trek, though. Good value for money. Can't wait to return.

Visited Lychee as we were in Glasgow to celebrate our daughter’s 7th birthday. The food itself was as good as we’ve had, and reasonably priced. What impressed us most was the staff. We were served by 4 different waitresses and they were all so welcoming and friendly. After finding out it was our daughter’s birthday treat they even came out with a special dessert. Nice to see a restaurant that ticks all the boxes anyway, going that extra mile.

Portion size not suitable for an adult, more like kids portions, chips are about 1mm thick, fried rice more like white boiled, very disappointed won't be back

We first visited Lychee while Xmas shopping last year and enjoyed it so much we decided to return recently, in fact it was so good we went twice! The food was exceptional on both visits, starters and mains were beautifully cooked, hot and very generous portions, my chicken chow mein would've fed both of us, all washed down with a lovely bottle of wine. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a nice relaxed atmosphere and great staff especially Anne who looked after us. Lychee Oriental is on Mitchell Street, just off Argyle Street so very central, and we will definitely visit again next time we're in Glasgow.

Myself and my wife visited here for dinner after seeing all the good reviews and we were not disappointed. Excellent food and service and reasonably priced. The restaurant was busy when we arrived and the food arrived very quick. If you haven’t tried this restaurant give it a try as you won’t be disappointed. Will definitely be back.

Went for lunch today…first visit. Excellent!! Great service and unbelievable food. Better than my favourite restaurant in London China town. Hot & sour soup, duck spring rolls, yuk sung, spare ribs, duck with mushroom, egg fried rice & Singapore noodles, Chinese beer and jasmine tea. Just around the corner from Central Station too! Highly recommend.

Have eaten here twice, the first night was from the A La Carte Menu. We had Thai prawn crackers, chicken satay and yuk sung to start. The satay was really good, decent size portion. The yuk sung looked different to how I've had it before but despite appearance was very tasty. We had sweet and sour chicken and crispy shredded sweet and chilli chicken - both were delicious and the chili chicken was served in a basket of crispy noodles . The service was very quick, maybe too quick and felt a bit rushed as we had hoped to sit and enjoy our meal and the server was efficient but a little rude. The second time we had the early bird menu which was fantastic value, more limited naturally than the a la carte but with a good range of choice. Similar to our last visit we had satay chicken and spare rib starter. Spare ribs were nice but could have been hotter. Opted again for sweet and sour and honey chilli chicken with noodles, both were excellent. Service was efficient and the waitress was friendly this time! The restaurant itself is lovely and has a good atmosphere. Give it a go but early bird is well worth a try.

Nice food and nice surroundings but didn't like the way the food was presented. Chicken was already on the plate instead of the rice which made for not enough sauce to cover the rice. Would return though

Absolutely amazing restaurant ⭐ that's the extra star it deserves. I booked a table for 6 originally but needed to change that to 14 which wasn't an issue. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was first class. Given the table size I have to say the best service I have received. I made the booking for the group on a recommendation so the pressure was on me. Thank you Lychee for living up to that recommendation and the guys all said how amazing the food was ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👏🏼👏🏼

Really enjoyed the evening with work colleagues and will definitely go back.

Expensive but lots loved the food and the cocktails. Pineapple is not something that Thai put in their curry and not something I liked you can't have it all. The mushroom and duck starters as well as the mixed starter were all appreciated. On the whole staff were great apart from forgetting the drinks orders twice but quick when reminded and as the place was very busy understandable but maybe set two staff to do drinks only might work better?

Hope is not lost for those with coeliac disease!! Chinese was my favourite food for years, it broke my heart after being diagnosed that I couldn’t eat it anymore. Went to Lychee on my birthday and was not disappointed, absolutely amazing and you’d never think it was gluten free. Had a laugh with the waitress at the fact I ordered two main courses, I simply wanted to try everything!!

Had my sons 20th birthday meal hear 😋 It was delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Although the food was lovely, it wasn't an ideal or big enough menu. Food turned up barely warm. The waitress seemed to be very impatient with me when there was nothing I liked on menu. There was no atmosphere, and it was definitely a place where they wanted every inch used up by tables and chairs...it was a struggle to get between 2 tables. We were in and out within 40 mins.

Excellent food at a reasonable price. My visit was at 6pm on a Monday evening. Restaurant was fairly busy. The staff were very attentive and the general atmosphere was relaxed. I shared a starter duck spring roll which was followed by a mixed seafood claypot with tofu. My daughter tried the honey chilli chicken. It had a real kick to it. Singapore noodles and fried rice on the side. Lovely food and would definitely visit again.

Wouldn't rush back. Food mediocre Had two course lunch but had better elsewhere. Salt and chillie chips (side order) appear to be just frozen french fries with some chilies sprinkled over them. Given the competition from other restaurants nearby, they need to up their game. Staff very good. Toilet facilities poor. One in restaurant and you need to access the other via lift.
