The food was nice but the portions were inadequate. Had an evening meal, fairly pricy, nice food nicely presented, but so inadequate I needed supper when I got home .

Fish courses were excellent, lamb moussaka was v good, the King oyster mushroom souvlaki was awful and was sent back. No better second time round. Interesting that the owner did not know what ingredients are listed on his menu!

Good atmosphere, excellent staff, food good.

I had an amazing birthday lunch at Lussmanns in St Albans. Everything was fantastic from the moment we were greeted to the moment we left. The menu has a really nice variety of different options. The food was great and came out quickly. The service was really excellent. The wait staff were happy to help with any questions and they took the time to wish me happy birthday and add a candle to my dessert which was really lovely and appreciated.

Only wish there are more restaurants that served sustainably sourced food around! Also, the lunch set is at a unbeatable price/quality. Do make sure to book ahead!

lovely evening here for dinner. we had the private room downstairs and it was great - there was a lot of us so we weren’t worried about noise and our servers were super attentive. plus the food was wonderful - wouldn’t hesitate to visit again!

Disappointing food. All the fish was overcooked, the poached egg was hard boiled, and nothing was seasoned. Such a shame as this place seems highly recommended. Overrated in my opinion.

Love coming back to this place whenever I m in town. Fresh, varied menu with seasonal flavours and excellent ingredients. Service can be a little slower when it's busy, but staff are always pleasant and responsive. Cocktails are good too :)

Delightful in every sense of the word.

We had a warm and bubbly welcome from Kelly F., who was thankfully there to guide us in through the voluminous folds of the heavy curtains which were doing a good job of keeping the February evening chills at bay. The food was delicious, lovely and hot and Hannah and Sheldon who served us were quietly attentive, warm and respectful. All four of us really enjoyed our time there and would be happy to return.

A lovely venue for a special lunchtime family event. We were so pleased to have a reserved space on the top mezzanine, this was perfect for the number of guests we had. The serving staff were efficient and organised and the food was mostly tasty, although unfortunately the vegetarian option was rather bland and greasy. The children were served promptly and the food from the children's menu was mostly good, although the chips were covered in salt and my toddler was unable to eat the rather fiery kids Linguine Fiorentina due to the amount of chilli! Unfortunately one member of the management seemed less than keen on our party being there, she didn't hide that she wasn't keen on the presence of our children, was eager to get their desserts sent out before the adults had received their mains and was most certainly pleased to see us leave. Such a shame as we otherwise enjoyed the experience.

Had lovely time at private room downstairs, but watch out for the lady who's very good at upselling. She'll suggest things you don't need. But overall food and staff were great.

The manager was very helpful and got us a table although it was full (sat lunchtime) The waiters were great, as was the food.

We had booked for our anniversary meal (had made aware in the booking), however didn't feel the service lived up to its expectations. Everyone was extremely polite and friendly, however service did drag a little too much for our liking, making us feel forgotten at times. The food was decent, but not outstanding. We both chose the lamb, which was cooked well, but we unfortunately found it to lack in real flavor. The menu mentioned it would be accompanied by a red wine jus, but the limited amount on the plate made it almost negligible. This could also be said for the rather small serving of mint sauce atop the protein. On a positive note, the dessert was quite tasty and I would recommend the chocolate mousse!

I'm a vegetarian, my other half is a vegan. We've honestly just had one of the best meals, hands down, we've had in years. Everything was delicious, but some of the new options (north African spiced flatbread, vegan nduja pasta) were absolutely great. Vegans don't be offput that this is an omnivore restaurant, they really know how to feed us.

Tried the Bombas and Hunters Bruschetta for starters. Overall they were ok, there was very little mutton taste in the bombas, bruschetta was good with some nice flavours coming through. The duck leg confit for mains was quite nice, if there was no gravy, the duck was pretty dry. Tried the orange brûlée, which was ok. The layer on top has the orange bitter flavour. The Americano (coffee) was unfortunately terrible and had the most bitter taste. Was not a great end to the meal. Overall, the food was decent however nothing exceptional. They are sustainable and the food you are eating is organic and healthy. I think a few adjustments could make the taste slightly better.

Overall good value, attention-to-detail service, friendly staff. If I knew the Manager's name I would thank her personally. She made our evening special just by her nature, thoughtfulness and consideration. Lussmans is a restaurant that I've enjoyed every single meal and never been let down by. It's one of my go-to places in St Albans.

We went to Lussmans for my Birthday lunch with friends. The waiting staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We all had the 3 course set menu and it was delicious. I was given a bunch of flowers and they even gave me some water to keep them in until we had finished our meal!

Loved the design of this restaurant and the food matched the ambiance. We loved it and thoroughly recommend. All the staff were just lovely and Greta deserves a special mention . Wish we had a branch near us!

Excellent, simply excellent. Loved the food, the service, the atmosphere, the wine choice, the pudding. Above all they care about sourcing the ingredients sustainably. And they care about the customers also in terms of levels of noise with carefully placed sound absorbing ceiling accessories. We will definitely be back.

I like the ethos and the philosophy behind Lussmmanns. It is good to know that 95% of their food is sourced locally. The food was ok, not amazing but decent enough. Nice ambiance.

Went for an early dinner. Booked for 5.30pm on the understanding we had the table for 2 hours. At 7.05pm we were rudely interrupted mid conversation to be told we needed to be off the table at 7.15pm. I queried this but was told it was a system thing. No apology was provided . We had to be off in 10 mins. Fact. This is the second time this has happened to us at Lussmans. We won't go back. There are too many other restaurants in St Albans that understand better the importance of good service.

My Nan, mum and I came here for my birthday and it’s one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Excellent kind waitress and amazing food. Will definitely be visiting again!

We went there the other evening for a business dinner. I recall going here many years ago when my daughter when she was little and once again it didn’t disappoint. Greeted at the door, care and consideration taken for all ages of those at the table by the staff. Food was marvellous and hats off to the chefs for catering to our needs... Atmosphere was very relaxing, and it was nice and calm! Absolutely fabulous night and we shall certainly be back soon!

What a poor dinner ! The waiting staff were unfriendly , poor at their job , gormless , no customer service !! The food was awful - COLD ! Four pieces of meat on a plate , no vegetables .A tiny greek salad with 3 tomatoes and two olives . A Rib eye steak cut so thin it looked like a bavette steak . No desert or coffee as the waiter never asked us ! And a service charge of £13.00 . It was a special occasion that was NOT any occasion . Went back to speak to the manager who was the waiter . He was not interested and said hes doing nothing Emailed the Managing director Heard nothing !! Poor Poor Poor to treat prople this way

Lovely food, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Had a really nice meal, everything we had tasted fresh and great; bruschetta, crab linguini, lobster, sole, veg, even the French fries were really tasty which is quite impressive :) excellent espresso martinis too by the way. Only minor disappointment was the table water that tasted very odd (not like the tap water at home and weI live not far away :) - had to order bottled water. Price was at the top end of expectations but happy to pay as food and experience was good. Will return but need to sort the tap water out.

Lovely restaurant with a really nice vibe. Alona was our waitress and she couldn’t have done a better job, food arrived quickly but not too quickly and was cooked to perfection, the Halibut was amazing. This was our 2nd visit and won’t be the last.

4 stars for the food because the pulled-pork starter looked like a hodge podge thrown together by a student and portion was a bit overwhelming. Lamb was deliciously succulent and almond St Clément was divine. Apparently, halibut lacked seasoning - my companions had it. Looked very pretty on the plate though.

Lovely food and excellent service.

We were a large group ( under 12) and sat downstairs in the more private area. On the positive side, we were not hassled especially as a few of us were held up. Waitress service was good, attentive and friendly. However as with at least one previous review, i generally believe it is overpriced for mediocre food. I also modified my meal to paella due to the need to order sides with certain dishes (honestly is one expected to eat a fish cake by itself?) . The paella was average, missing the depth of flavour but it was vegetarian. Was also suprised the lamb did not come with an option for rare, medium or well done.

We love Lussmanns! We have visited many times and the reason we keep coming back is the excellent food, great drink selection and the helpful staff- I’ve also purchased gift vouchers, in the past, for significant birthday presents - because I trust the recipients will be guaranteed a wonderful meal. Today we arrived a bit early and it was no problem, we were well looked after, especially as we were celebrating our 17yr old son’s birthday. The Friday ‘fish and chips’ are legendary! The Devon Crab starter was memorable, as was the Orange brûlée. It is a great restaurant for couples, or dining with families or friends -We usually dine at Lussmanns in St Albans as it is closest, but are looking forward to visiting other locations across Hertfordshire.

Sadly for me being Coeliac , I didn't feel that there was much choice. Food was Ok ,but I felt very expensive.

First time at Lussman's, took my daughters for a reunion treat. On the whole the food was fine. I particularly enjoyed the Strawberry shortcake. The house white was very pleasant but the restaurant lacked atmosphere. It's not a Michelin starred restaurant so a little more life please. What would have made the occasion more exciting and relaxing is the ambiance. Whilst there was music on in the background it was so low volume we couldn't hear it and had no idea what it was? Due to the lack of background 'buzz' the atmosphere was non existent and the restaurant felt a little pretentious. A few 'families' who seemed to be there out of necessity more than enjoying the occasion. Not a lot of smiling going on. My biggest criticism is the attitude of the waiting staff. I don't think our waiter's smiled once, they were professional, serviced us when required but lacked any personality which I would expect from a quality small restaurant. On the whole I feel the experience was okay but could have been a lot better. It was also a little pricy for the quality of the food.

We have the highest recommendation for this restaurant and the wonderful manager, Kelly. She is evidently a dedicated and competent leader, and the staff and chefs are all excellent. Fitting in a group of 10 people at late notice for a Sunday lunch, at a time of important family bonding after some personal news, we were welcomed with kindness, not to mention delicious food. We had a superb experience for a special family meal in a private dining area. It couldn't be faulted! We had a range of dishes from the very good value set menu. They were all excellent, beautifully cooked and tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive even on this busy Saturday evening. Highly recommended.

I invited a high profile guest for a business dinner, who was visiting me from abroad. I knew he wasn’t going to be disappointed, and indeed he was not. We had a really good dinner and enjoyed the early summer menu very much.

Our first visit to Lussmanns for a family birthday lunch. Lovely choices on the menu and very reasonable set menu. Everything we ate was delicious, and we particularly enjoyed the ham hock terrine for starters and the onglet steak for mains, which was perfectly cooked.
