Luna Rossa in Lewes

First time in Brighton and we were brought here by a relative who is a regular. Food was excellent and the staff were charming. Really enjoyable evening and very reasonably priced.

I cannot comment on the food because I have not yet managed to experience the cuisine. I have visited twice at times when they are supposed be open but found them closed. I think it would be a great idea if the management could decide when they will open and advertise accordingly.

Simply the best pizzas we have ever had, also available gluten free. House wine is both affordable and drinkable. Staff have been the same for some time and are friendly. Looking forward to our next visit.

Awful! waiter forgot how to smile. Over priced. The potion sizes are small-Barbie size, the coffee is bitter and again small, you need a microscope to spot your Tiramisu served in a plastic pot!! Management/staff moaned at my disable son for wanting to use the toilet! The potatoes were hid underneath the tiny piece of meat, had to ask where they were as we thought they'd forgotten them! Awful!

Second visit had starter and main, adequate portions. Service was good nice people. Decor a dit odd, some really nice photos, they should get rid of the signs on the toilet doors.

Luna Rossa is a Great lovely place to eat. We have Breakfast here too. Our dinner was the set menu. It was very good indeed. The pizzas are amazing. Rosario is very nice and always welcoming. His staff are all very welcoming too. Very affordable too. Can,t best this place really.x

Garlic bread was great. The mixed seafood starter disappointing as it only had one prawn. Pizza was great and steak perfectly cooked. The special pasta with mushrooms,prawns an seabresm was not great as it was shrimps not pawns,but flavour was good. Either change the ingredients to match the description or change the description, to meet the guest expectations and it could be great. Would definitely go again as the service was attentive, efficient and friendly. Pizza and calamari were great.

We arrived before they opened, they let us in to keep warm, took drinks order then food order. A steak beautifully seasoned and cooked, and a rather large pizza. Cooked to perfection. Couldn’t manage it all, so got a doggy bag to take home. Very reasonably priced too. Well done guys.

A really really good quality, good value restaurant. We are always looking for a new place to go and recently many places have changed hands or changed that food for the worse. This place is a breath of fresh air. It is friendly. Both the customers and the owners and the quality of the food is excellent and you can just see that it's a genuine authentic place and the prices are much cheaper than Lewis where we're from

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by a waiter, Shane, who held the door open for us - my Dad has mobility issues so this was appreciated. Shane and Anika (a waitress, I hope I've spelt her name right) served us and were friendly and professional throughout. The food was delicious and despite the restaurant being relatively busy, was quick to arrive from the kitchen. The chef brought out one of the dishes and was also very friendly. We'd go here again for sure :-). Thanks everyone at the Luna Rossa for creating a memorable and comfortable experience for us.

Called for lunch - our first visit to Luna Rossa. Selected three dishes from the anitpasti list. All excellent, ditto the espressos. No complaints about the service either, in contrast to the few 1-star reviews. Tempted to thnk that someitmes reviews tell you more about the reviewer than the reviewed.

We had 7 of us outside for an early evening meal, ranging from 3 years old to 75 years old (yep, Grandpa!). We enjoyed a variety of dishes and drinks, and appreciated that the service wasn't pushy, so we could relax and chat.

Wow asked about cows milk protein allergy and told they could cook anything on the menu no problem. Beautiful meal and lovely service

We went to this establishment for brunch and despite its very dated shabby appearance this didn't put us off because it wouldn't bother 9us if the food was good... sadly the attitude of the owners was very poor they acted like they were doing us...

We found this little gem last year and so glad we did. If we walk to Newhaven from Seaford along the beach we stop here for something to eat and drink to build us up before we head back. The food is lovely freshly cooked...

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime and had the fixed price two course menu, which had good choices and was great value. Food was very good, service friendly and the whole experience was very positive - recommended!

Disgusting! Staff not aware of what’s available on the menu at what time, had to show the guy, Garza his own menu!!, sausage and egg sandwich with 1 sausage and 1 egg inside! Asked for water for the dog and was sold an over priced glass bottle from Italy! We were then subjected to a group smoking which was extremely unpleasant, asked to pay so we could get out of the smoke and was told ‘we are too busy, you need to wait’ so forced to sit in other people’s smoke while they did the bill. £18 for 2 sausage & egg sandwiches, a coffee and Diet Coke is awful value! Could have gone to McDonald’s and had better service, better value and not had the greasy food repeating on me for the rest of the day. I will NEVER return to this establishment!

We had our first take away from here on Saturday night and the food was lovely! Great choice on the menu and we only had to wait 30 minutes to collect. We plan on eating in next time as the restaurant is in the perfect location next to the harbour.

We regularly get our pizza from Luna Rossa on a Friday night as a take away and they are really good!!! When we go there for a sit down meal the food is always very delicious and the the owner and the staff are always very friendly. Super location and brilliant food.

Came here 7 months ago, we as a family decided to come here to support our community. We walked in at 8.30pm and was given an unfriendly welcome with no smile but by being told we will have to order quick as kitchen will be closing shortly and they have to shut at 10pm. I asked the waiter, why so soon it's only 8.30pm, he gave us the impression he did not want us there his attitude was shocking. I asked him would he prefer if we went elsewhere then, he replied very loudly yes perhaps you should go elsewhere. Very rude and arrogant waiter, shocked to be spoken to like that, not sure if it was more embarrassing for us or the restaurant, but although it's a very beautiful looking place and food was great 7 months ago. We will not be ever going back there and I will make sure friends and other family will hear about the terrible treatment we received this evening.

We went out for Sunday lunch. Fantastic service, delicious food and amazing wine! We will be returning!

My husband & I have eaten at Luna Rossa on a number of occasions & it never fails to impress us! We absolutely love it here, from the warm welcome we always receive from the lovely owner & his staff, to the delicious food lovingly cooked (singlehandedly) by his wonderful wife. Every dish we’ve tried has been cooked to perfection & they always give a generous portion!The food is fantastic, the people who run it are wonderful, their coffee is excellent & the tiramisu is to die for!!! Give yourself a treat & pop along there, you won’t be disappointed.

I have yet to eat a full meal here but it is my regular coffee/snack stop during my bike rides. The service is spot on, cheerful and Rosario always remembers your preferred drink, white coffee if cool and a bottle of Peroni (no glass) if the weather is warm.

Had a celebration meal for two here and the food and service was exceptional! Extremely tasty dishes and the wine was beautiful, will definitely return and would highly recommend if you’re in the area!

We came here twice over the weekend due to the great experience we had on our first meal. Our family were made so welcome and considering it was sooo hot our food and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this well run restaurant. The mixed seafood starter was a delight, ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce delcious and the children well catered for....staying local proved to come up trumps for us this time.

Our Local Italian Restaurant alway give a warm welcome, remembers your names and past conversations. Food is typical of most Italian Restaurants but served quickly and tastes marvelous. Our Grand Children love to go there as families are made so welcome. Well done Rosario we will be back

Just finished a wonderful meal for an intimate family birthday dinner, the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly and informative concerning their menu. I would highly recommend this hidden gem for all kinds of events and evenings out. We will be returning soon for more!

We came here for a family dinner. The food was served quickly and was excellent. There had been a mix up with the booking but they were still able to make up a big table for us. Brilliant food, brilliant service.

Our large group (4 adults 5 children) came here after a day spent walking around the nearby hill fort and beach. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent, the location was ok although the sun leaves the patio just before dinner.

We were taken here by friends who ate here the week before, and thought it was excellent.

The cooking that we sampled was superb. A luscious risotto delicately flavoured with saffron, seafood tagliatelle with fantastic flavours. The oven baked pizza looked very inviting.That evening the restaurant was very crowded and the staff could barely cope. Our waiter did manage to explain the framed showbiz photos on the wall, exciting for those who remember Anna Magnani and Mastroianni in their heyday. Better to go at a quieter time - unless more staff are found. Quite noisy for a romantic evening.

Fresh delicious food. Great staff. Reasonable prices. Advised lobster was fresh in and the waiter suggested a seafood linguine and I was served with this beautiful dish. Mouthwatering and seasoned to perfection. Local Gem.

Didn't know exactly what to expect on our first visit but was so impressed by the authentic sausage and lenticchie starter. The youngster enjoyed the garlic bread "not too garlicky" and we got stuck into a generous fresh seafood risotto, so incomaparable with Zizzi's version recently in which you couldn't taste any fish stock. This was very good indeed. A nice cassata to finish and all the while looked after by the host. Very nice bottle of Nerod'Avola.

We came here with our youngest daughter for my wife's birthday at lunchtime. The "Specials Board" indicates which fresh fish and other dishes that are available each day together with the extensive menu. My wife chose the prawn a crab fritters as a starter..excellent. My daughter chose the sea bass.....beautifully cooked with a lovely fresh salad. My choice was Spaghetti Lua Rosa...mussels , clams and king prawns in a garlic & cherry tomato sauce...a lovely flavour. My wife's main course was Crespelle, stuffed and rolled pasta with spinach and ricotta We had three different desserts...Banoffi pie, Sticky toffee pudding, Baked Vanilla Cheesecake with a fruit compote...made in the restaurant. Coffee and lime drink were very good. Service was both friendly and efficient. It was a lovely Birthday meal, enjoyed by all.

Our experience was incredible. The waiter hardly spoke any English but we definitly had a wonderful evening. Seating outside on the sidewalk, enjoying fabulous food and watching the sun going down on the beach, it was wonderful.

My wife eat regularly at the Lunna. We have celebrated major birthdays, Morhering Sunday’s, Father’s Day and other occasions. We love both lads who run the restaurant. You will always be greeted with a smile. The food is excellent. We have never had a bad meal. We have recommended the Lunna Rossa to family and friends. Give it a go.

Food was lovely and staff friendly. This is what breakfast should be. As well as the usual full English there are also a variety of other dishes that make a pleasant change. Nice seafood and I can recommend the eggs royale. Average prices but quality food.

What can go wrong with a family business, nothing. You always will be looked after. Proper Italian food for who knows and enjoy Italian food. Try the stake with any of the sauce comes with especially with peppercorn. Pizza taste same as you eat in Napoli. A hidden gem in Newhaven is this place, and prices are reasonable too.

We stopped here today for breakfast. The staff/owners were very friendly. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. The let down was the food. Sausage tasted awful, hash browns were dripping with fat. Such a shame as we had better hopes here.

We arrived for lunch & our server attentive. We each had pizza which was hand made and tasted fabulous. We’ll definitely visit here again.

This restaurant is located in a place that is not deserved for such a perfect little restaurant. We had a pre booking of 22 people including a baby. The, what I think is the manager... was brilliant! Catered for everyone’s needs efficiently and the food was unreal I gave him a hug to say thank you because it was difficult but he made it perfect. The chefs were on point! Kept everyone entertained whilst working o just think this place deserves an amazing location with advertisements because I could not fault anything

I visited here with family before our evening ferry left the local port - and we couldn't have landed in a more pleasant restaurant. There are around 10 tables, resulting in a cosy feel. This is encouraged by the friendly staff, and warm lighting. The menu contains common Italian dishes - the food we ordered arrived in 10-15 minutes, was hot, and tasted delicious. There is a decent selection of beer and wine. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to go again, or recommend!

Ik verbaas me altijd over de superlatieven die reviewers gebruiken... een geweldige Italiaan?... Gewoon een normale Italiaan met een doorsnee kaart, een sober lokaal en nog soberder terras, gemiddelde obers, geen bijzondere wijn, normale prijzen en misschien een beetje Italiaanse mentaliteit met "je er gemakkelijk vanaf maken..". Omdat wij om 16.00 aan boord zouden gaan van de ferry die ons naar Dieppe zou brengen, en we 's ochtends Chichester toch zo'n 100 km verderop zouden bezoeken, had ik via internet gereserveerd, want je weet nooit hoe druk het is. Van 14.00-15.00 uur lunch 2 personen. Kreeg volgende dag mailtje terug. Ze vonden het goed maar waren bezorgd dat een uur voor een lunch te kort zou zijn, dus beter 13.30 uur. Op de Engelse motorways kan het bij de (vele) rotondes enorm opstropen zeker op vrijdag, dus we hebben de vouwen uit onze broek gereden om er 13.30 uur te zijn. Niet gelukt, 13.40. Was niet erg want er zaten 2 mensen en baby op het terras, de zaak was leeg. Voor de ober ging vragen wat we zouden drinken, vertelde hij al dat we moesten opschieten met bestellen want de keuken ging zo dicht. Hoezo uitgebreid anderhalf uur lunchen ?!!..... Vooraf panna con olio en bruschetta. Dan resp een Caesar salade en chicken diavola. De voorgerechten bestonden uit hetzelfde schaaltje brood, bij mij alleen dan wat tomatenstukjes uit blik erover, zo heb je ook bruschetta. Dacht het niet, maak het zelf stukken beter. Salade was goed, kip ook. Wijn matig gezien de prijs. Enfin 14.15 uur waren we klaar. 2 obers waren toen al vertrokken, kok was aan het opruimen en vlak nadat wij de rekening betaald hadden ging de tent op slot. Ooooh, daarom moesten wij eerder komen. Wat een comedie!

It is not a good English cafe and it is not a good Italian cafe/restaurant. Not bad but indifferent, including the service, is what springs readily to mind. A pity as the location is attractive at the end of the New Heaven Marina.

Luna Rosso is a café staffed by a team of Italian waiters by the Marina close to the Fort, on the ground floor of a block of flats on a corner. There are tables outside, but it was too cold and we sat inside

Checked the reviews before going. Ordered pizza for three of us and Alfredo tagliatelle for my daughter. And a main course feta and mixed leaves salad to share. The food was freshly cooked and came quite fast. We all enjoyed the food ... it was good. Staff were friendly. Nice atmosphere in that other customers were in a good mood and very chatty with the waiters... but the decor, lack of music and the hard chairs (I have blood circulatory problems and found hard wood chairs a bit difficult to deal with) made it more of an eat and go place rather than a linger and take your time. There was no cosiness, no ambience. It was functional. But we had a good meal and would recommend it if you're just interested in eating well, rather than lingering and being super comfortable.

We were passing through en route to France, and recommended to try this restaurant for a meal by our hostess. What a find!

We all had a great evening here. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We all really enjoyed our food. We are a family of 4. There are tables outside for those nice evenings. I have also been here for breakfast and coffee.

The Luna Rossa is always friendly and lively with tasty Italian cuisine. Authentic menu. Fish dishes available. Food is always reliable. Drinks are a little pricey but the ambience makes up for that.

The staff where happy and friendly ,the atmosphere was lovely. Nicely decorated. I had Zucchini for starter they where ok but there was to much batter and not much zucchini inside, felt disappointed. Had mushroom pizza, for me the dough was to thick and there wasn't much of a flvour. .I won't be rushing back. If I was invited to go there again I would try something different

We took some elderly relatives here for lunch. Both ladies are well travelled so enjoy European food.

I went to this restaurant with my Uncle Paolo( it is his favourite restaurant)! I loved this restaurant; the staff were explicit and I loved the senario. It was great that we could speak Italian to the waiters making it very authentic. Waiter Luciano and Chef Rozzario were absolutely amazing people. I really want wait till we come down to Brighton to see my uncle again so hopefully he will treat me again to this fab restaurant.I had a seafood starter made up of whitebait calamari and scampi. The sausage pasta was incredible and the banofee pie made it. The staff really try and make it a family friendly loveable place and it definitely paid of. My brother smashed a glass and Luciano(the waiter) said,'as long as no one is hurt that is all I care about' this was one of the sweetest things he could have said. I would definitely come here again and my family will hear all about this fab restaurant as well as my friends. This is easily a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating minimum. The people who gave a 1 star were lieing because this was my favourite restaurant I have ever been to ! So thank you to especially Luciano and the chef Rozzario as well as the chef's 'backstage' x

Very friendly welcome, excellent service, my Hawaiian pizza was great, as was my cappuccino, however the garlic bread (that my wife had) and my garlic bread with mozzarella were both very average, to be honest. 10% tip included in the bill without any prior warning, it frustrates me when this happens, I’d happily tip but would actually like to decide how much to give. My wife’s pasta was OK and my 6-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter both loved their lasagne dishes (1 to share between them). Fake flowers outside would be better as real flowers, not sure what the plastic jellyfish is all about in the tank, but each to their own! Such friendly, authentic service was great. Grazie !
