Diella's in Lewes

On the off chance we popped on on a busy Saturday on bank holiday weekend . We’re lucky to get a table as the weather had been bad and it was quieter than expected. Owner was chatty and friendly, as were the staff. Food all delicious. Loved that I had a jug of lime to pour in my soda!

The service and welcome are really wonderful. It's a very cosy and friendly environment. However, the pizza was really disappointing. You can now get really fantastic pizza in the uk, and this is a recipe from the 1980s, which seemed to use ordinary flour rather than bread flour because it was like a biscuit underneath and cakey and soggy under the topping rather than a chewy, crusty pizza base. It would make me wary of having the pasta. Others have also reviewed and complained about the pizza, so might be worth considering. The main course my partner had was is very nice but I only ate half, and I never leave my food! I couldn't bear to send it back because it was such a friendly place and I didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings and it was a special occasion. We really appreciate local restaurants and we really love to support them. The decor is rather dated as folks have said, but I liked it, Old Skool.

Amazing place for a really heart Italian. A very warm welcome. The food was fabulous. So many vegetarian option. Lovely service. A great place to dine.

An old fashioned Italian restaurant that has obviously been successful for many years with a loyal local clientele. The decor was ok if somewhat tired but, as said, has to be successful so why change?The owner is a great guy, larger than life and very accommodating and funny. His second is a little less outward going and does not seem to enjoy his job much but could be it was just a bad day for him - which after the last number of months is entirely understandable.I had mussels, which were excellent, and herself a caprese salad - the quality of the tomato and mozzarella was not the greatest plus it was swimming in too much balsamic dressing (which, he pointed out to us, is how he likes it personally).For mains, herself had a really excellent seared lamb and lamb risotto from the specials and she loved it. I tried a little and have to agree it was excellent. I had Zuppa de pesci which was pleasant enough but the star of the show, large prawns, were somewhat over cooked and slightly powdery to my taste.Having had excellent dinners in two local restaurants, overall it was a disappointing last night’s stay in Seaford softened by some good cooking and watching the host at work.The wine list, incidentally, is good and would recommend the dry house Rose and the Primitivo which was excellent!

Friendly, excellent food, and could not have been better for gluten free options. It was also open for a late lunch when all other places in Seaford were closing.

We visited Diella’s whilst on holiday after it came recommended by another local business. Safe to say, it was an excellent recommendation. The food was superb. We ordered a variety of meals, from steak, to lamb, to pizza; each was of the highest order. The owner, Stefano, really made the evening. The warm welcome made us feel like one of the locals, and his sense of humour is excellent. If you like Italian, I couldn’t recommend this place any more highly.

This authentic Italian restaurant is welcoming, comfortable and convenient set in the heart of Seaford. We arrived early at 630 to compensate for the early and enforced 10 o’clock closing time. There were already several tables taken, suggesting the restaurant had a good reputation.For starters I enjoyed the whitebait, succulent fresh and perfectly cooked, and my wife had the seafood salad, also fresh, plentiful and attractively presented. We are both fond of risotto and each had a Risotto Funghi. Sadly, these were disappointing, lacking flavour, perhaps missing stock, and neither had the sticky texture that personifies a well prepared risotto. Despite this slight disappointment, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and appreciated the excellent service. Pricing is moderate, the restaurant clearly popular, and we’ll most certainly return, albeit we’ll skip the risotto for something else on their extensive menu.

Whilst visiting Seaford for the day we popped into this Italian at lunchtime to see if they had availability for the evening to see if it was an option, and were so taken by the friendly reception that we decided to book it.Plenty of covid precautions being taken with cleaning and table spacing and extremely friendly and efficient service levels, especially from the proprietor who I assume is the Stefano mentioned in previous reviews. The food was very good also and my Fish stew main dish was crammed full of white and shell fish. It turned out to be an excellent choice for an evening meal and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this establishment.

Fantastic- spaced well, staff adhering to Covid rules. The food as fantastic as usual. The owner Steff chatty with all customers, explaining foods + wines. Very knowledgeable. Looking forward to going back again.

We are visiting Seaford on vacation and got a takeaway from Diella’s tonight. Great service, very friendly and helpful. The takeaway menu is for pizza and pasta. We ordered a Verdure (vegetable) pizza and a pasta arrabbiata. We were given complimentary garlic bread and breadsticks too. The pizza was the real highlight - fresh vegetables (rather than the jarred kind you sometimes get) and a really crispy base. Would highly recommend.

A small group of us attended for lunch recently. Although the set menu is more expensive than our usual restaurants, there was ample choice to suit us all. The fish and chips was very tasty and a good portion. Indeed all the choices we made were good sized portions. Sadly no room left for dessert so I will have to return. The cappuccino was delicious too and not overpriced. The restaurant was quite empty when we arrived but rapidly filled and the staff were very attentive and pleasant.

Friends of ours booked this restaurant to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary. We decided to contact Diella's and arranged with Stefano to secretly pay for their meal. Stefano treated them so well, and played along with our gesture perfectly. Thank you Stefano for making their special day so memorable! They had an amazing time :-)

We had a couple of great steaks, cooked perfectly, large and very tasty, no gristle, great quality meat. Our son had a pizza, which was large and tasty. Nice relaxed atmosphere and attentive service. Menu and surroundings a traditional Italian feel.

Despite Covid-19 restrictions Diellas has managed to create a relaxing ambience. Food was tasty, house wine v good, staff friendly & attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit & definately plan a return trip

Visited Diellas a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely evening. The choice was extensive and portions very generous. The pavlovas were amazing! Staff were friendly and the set menu was exceptional value. Will definitely be going back!

To be honest I'm surprised at all the good reviews. This is our 2nd visit in 10 years and nothing has changed except the feeling that the owner has simply given up. When I go out to a restaurant I expect to eat something that is well presented and cooked equally or better than I can do. Neither was the case and we will not return again. It really has the feel that no one really cares, especially when our side salad has been simply taken out of a bag and dumped in a bowl with a garnish of 2 sliced raw onion rings... Lovely not! Young waitress was polite and robotic, owner/manager looked as if he couldn't give a damn. Sell up mate, someone else must do a better job!

An excellent pre Christmas Sunday lunch. The food was imaginative and tasty. The deserts were excellent and very generous portions I am coeliac and they looked after me really well looking forward to visiting again

Another fantastic evening at Diellas, the event was arranged around five food courses, with matched wines. The first course as nibbles with bubbles. Then a fantastic bruschetta, followed by a seafood pancake, then lamb kebabs and Caribbean dark syrup cake. So fantastic. The wines matched were perfect, with the opportunity to order some bottles to takeaway. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but does not have accessible toilets. Up a step and quite small. Overall a fantastic evening, with a great host in Stef. The foods were all cooked with ingredient intolerance awareness. Thank you.

Excellent service and food. Stefano looked after us very well and took particular care of Auntie Barbara who was celebrating her 94th birthday. A memorable and very good experience.

Once a month I go out with a group of ladies. Its normally in a restaurant. This month we chose Diellas in Seaford. Its a lovely restaurant right in the heart of Seaford. We had preordered our meal. I chose prawn cocktail followed by pork loin slices in a lovely sauce. The pork came with French fries & veggies. Very tasty. Looking forward to eating here again. The meal was in a special offer. So that was even better.

Been many times since our last review and it continues to improve and impress. Pork in calvados was exceptional. Chargrilled lamb absolutely delightful. Make the effort to make a visit.

Second visit to Diellas and once again not disappointed. Great atmosphere, great menu and great service.

We went with friends on Friday and to be totally blunt it was terrible. Save your money and go elsewhere as the food was a disgrace, boxes of wine stacked up in the restaurant itself. You can only feel sorry for the waiting staff having to serve up such poor food. I’m surprised this place is still trading as I cannot see how anyone would return,

our 2nd stay in Seaford & tried Diellas for an early evening meal after a busy day walking. Had made no reservation & the place was buzzing at 6.45pm, but we were welcomed & accommodated warmly by the host. Great service, lovely food - just what we were looking for - both loved the whitebait & wine by the glass is always a benefit for us. reasonable price too, so value for money - will be back!!

A group of us arranged to have lunch here and we were very well attended to despite some late arrivals because of traffic hold-ups.

Lunch with family so I booked a table at Dieallas because I knew it was often busy as Seaford's premier Italian restuarant but as it happnes it wouldn;t have been necessary. The decor is probably best described as cliche Italian (brown painted crude plaster on walls, white paited crude plaster on ceiling, framed wine lables) but comfortable, warm and welcoming for all that. The service was excellent, professional, and discrete. The maitre d' welcoming, chatty but unobtrusive and the food excellent. We had requested a quite table and sure enough the ambient background music was turned down and not at all intruisve. I had a chargrilled pork meal and the sauce that came with it was very, very good. I finished with a good old kinickerbocker glory with really nice icecream and fresh fruit. It's a restaurant worth visting once, twice and even more ofter. The toilets were among the smallest I've ever been in and I forgot to ask whether there was an accesible loo. But part of the restaurant is on a level with the pavement so entrance shouldn't be a problem,

Five course meal aligned to five different wines. What’s not to like!!! This happens every two or three months and is completely fully booked each time. That says it all?

Our first visit to this restaurant. It won’t be our last. The quality and portion size are excellent. Waiting staff were attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.

We recently enjoyed a family gathering at Diella’s - the food and service were excellent.

We were greeted enthusiastically on arrival by the manager, we had booked an accessible table. Lovely round table, slightly higher to allow the user of a wheelchair to get under. No accessible toilets, mainly due to the restaurant being busy, but still not fitted out. We were advised of this on booking.

For the second time, we chose Diella's for a large group lunch to celebrate surviving the New Year 2019 and to give us something special to look forward to for the end of January.

We have been to Diellas many times over the past many years! The food is always fantastic and they go out of their way to ensure you get what you want to eat, even changing a choice for you!, we adore seafood and the flavours of the sauces are fantastic!

I have always found this restaurant to be very good and we started our meal with Prawn Cocktails and Bisque all of which were good, the house wine was very acceptable and not at all overpriced. My wife had the Fish and Chips and this was excellent hot with thin crispy batter and great chips. We had a problem with the baked cod and had to send it back to be cooked more as it was almost raw and cold in the middle it came back hot and cooked but was a bit spongy and not up to the usual high standards. I also pointed out on leaving that both my friend and I had the Pork Medallions and they were dry and overcooked the cream sauce was thin and splitting. Not bad enough to leave but again not up to the usual high standard. May be it was the chefs day off. I have no doubt that this was a glitch and that normal service will have resumed when we next visit. A bit disappointing.

We chose this restaurant for a family birthday meal. There was great selection of dishes on the menu and, when the food arrived, it tasted delicious. The staff were all warm and friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed.

A few years later but we did return, this time with friends. I can't get over the portion sizes and value for money! None of us could finish our pizzas and the extra toppings were so generous. All delicious, especially the very special olives!

We stumbled upon this restaurant in Seaford last Sunday after a walk on the beach. We had never been to Seaford before ( down from London). My friend and I shared the marinated and chargrilled vegetable platter as starter. Generous portion, marinated and cooked to perfection ( not over oily) and served warm. To follow I had the fish soup/stew with crusty bread ( rich, tomato-ey soup with fresh herbs and a generous selection of tenderly cooked fish and sea food within). My friend had the Steak Diane- perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce- not a dish you see on the menu very often nowadays. We both had yummy desserts (Afagato/ Stewed fruits of the forest with ice cream) and left very full and vowing to return. Charming Italian host and genuinely family run.

We went after reading the good reviews and weren't disappointed, friendly staff, lovely food and nice atmosphere. Decor is a bit dated, but the food and service make up for it. Will certainly be going back.

We have been there several times mostly with my elderly mother and her wheelchair. They are unfailingly helpful and try to accommodate us in an accessible table. The food is always good tasty and well presented; with a good wine list too. The owner enjoys chatting with the customers and ensures everyone enjoys the experience.

After passing this restaurant many times during the 17 years that we have been in Seaford, we finally decided to pay a visit. The decor is dated, but I can accept dated if the place is clean, the service good and the food good. The waitress who served us was very nice and when I ordered a risotto dish by mistake, pointed it out to me and offered to enquire whether it could be made into a spaghetti version, which it was. My wife ordered a chicken dish, which when it arrived came as a very off putting mound of food. It was very much a case of quantity, rather than quality and my wife struggled with the dish. My meal was ok, but nothing special. Personally, I would rather have visited Gino's or travelled to Pablo's at Eastbourne Marina. What we found to be the worst thing about this visit was the over friendly, over bearing style of the owner/Manager/head waiter (not sure who they were). When I go out for a quiet meal with my wife, I don't want or need to be continually asked if everything is ok, would I prefer my prawns "shell off", do we want to take the food home, as well as umpteen other things. Some people may like this over bearing attention, but not all of us. Fine asking me if everything is ok, but when I'm eating, I'd rather eat the food whilst it's hot than be asked umpteen questions. If I want something else, I'll ask, and if customers are giving closed or one word answers, there is a reason. To be honest, at one point we did feel like telling the guy to clear off and leave us alone, which is putting it politely. We certainly won't rush back.

I have been twice now - first on my own, and satisfied enough to take my wife for lunch there. Good attention; quick service; good choice; good quality and variety. Leave room for the brandy snap dessert!

OMG, where do I start? We have attended this Italian restaurant on numerous occasions over the last few years and yet it goes downhill on every visit. Our waitress was attentive and did her best... but the food was inedible. We just wanted a quick lunch so we opted for 2 pizzas and 1 side salad. The side salad was very "unusual" consisting of off-cuts of tomatoes, beetroot chunks in mayo and a few rocket leaves. The pizzas eventually arrived with steak knives but we honestly needed a chainsaw to cut through the base. I am not sure if they have a chef in the kitchen or just a cook going through the motions. The dough base was more like a thrice baked pitta bread with a few toppings on top. It hadn't been tossed and not aerated, with no evidence of olive oil being used in the process. Neither of us could finish our meal as it was cold after trying to cut into it....without success.

The owner and staff at Diella's give it the feel of a small family run restaurant in the Italian countryside. The food was lovely, the house wine excellent, the service efficient but friendly. I'll be coming back!

Always welcomed with open arms, the choice of menu is brilliant and always excellent food. Stef is a wonderful host and and so are all the staff.

A friendly Stefano gave us a warm welcome. The menu was varied with specials of the day. Food was beautifully cooked. My wife ordered tuna to be cooked through. This was spot on and presented in a lovely selection of salad. I had the baked cod which again was fresh and beautifully cooked. Although I ordered new potatoes, I do wish now I had ordered dolphinuaise. Large selection of Italian based dishes - spoilt for choice. Do remember to check the specials which are on the back of the menu's before ordering.

Lovely lunch. 2 of us had the lunch special- the rest picks off the menu. All served well + hot. They use a lot of coriander, which means I couldn’t have the crab bisque- which sounded fabulous.

Pleasant surrounding to eat and relax, friendly and helpful staff, good for carnivores and vegetarians, a wide range of choice, my carbonara was amongst the best I've had, the only one better is the one I cook for myself. All members of our party were as satisfied with their choice as I was with mine. Thought the wines were a bit pricey but I keep forgetting that as I live in France there is quite a difference.

Four of us for Sunday lunch but we all ordered other things. 3 had the crab bisque that did not have much crab in it and was too thin. Not very tasty. I had the mozzarella and tomatoes with basil. Tomatoes were tasteless as they often are these days and the cheese was really cheap tasting and pretty rubbery. It's a pity as there is so much good Mozzarella available today. Two had lamb with deep fried Jerusalem artichokes on a flatbread. One had mussels and I had lamb with risotto. The rice was overdone although slightly spicy and very tasty. The lamb was superb all round.The others all loved their main courses. We had a bottle of the house white wine and a bottle of Shiraz. Both were a bit pricey for what they were. Service was good if not outstanding but the girls were pleasant enough. Overall a good experience but not amazing and pricier than it should be. We would go again so suggest others try it.

My wife recently visited for an evening meal with her Mum for her Birthday, but our main concern was whether or not my wife would be able to eat something tasty as she is a coeliac. Well, not only was the main absolutely delicious, but staff were very friendly and knowledgeable too. My wife often loses out on dessert, as not many places offer anything especially nice for dessert except the usual fruit salad or ice cream. However, you outdid yourselves offering a wonderful chocolate, coffee meringue sweet that my wife thoroughly enjoyed. I believe my in-laws plan on taking us to visit you again early in the new year when I will be able to see for myself, but my wife was very impressed with food available to her. Well done Diella’s!

Good range of starters and Italian main meals with gluten free option. Desserts a little unexciting. Reasonably priced food and wines. Essential to book for evenings. Also does a good 'wake' in afternoons if a family book it.

We have been several times to Diellas and they didn't disappoint on Saturday when I surprised my wife Cathy on her birthday when our family were there waiting for us. Great service, food and of course the flamboyant Stefano didn't disappoint, we will return!

Reasonably accessible, the waiter asked if I could manage a few steps. If not was willing to re allocate our table. Aware of allergies and checked contents of soups. 3 great starters, home made chowder, but tinned seafood salad! Mains, the cod was again lovely, but the mussels were smashed and some unopened- the sauce had a good flavour. On mentioning the mussels being broken/ unopened, the waiter said 'this happens to mussels occasionally' they replaced the dish, but this new one still had broken shells. A restaurant trying to give great quality food must check the quality before it gets sent out to the customer- I have been eating mussels for over 30yrs, yes at home, I get a few smashed shells and unopened ones, when I'm paying in a restaurant I expect them all to be checked, I know not to open a cooked mussel, but other diners may not- this is a sure fire way to get food poisoning! Please quality control your mussels.

We tried this restaurant on the spur of the moment and were very surprised at the service we received , Again My wife explained to the staff that I had a dietary problem and they said they could change the menu to suit. Hier eet je lekker. De kaart is niet erg uitgebreid, maar geeft wel voldoende keus. De pizza's waren prima. Goed formaat en prima deeg. De bediening is erg vriendelijk en attent. De prijzen voor de pizza's zijn iets meer dan gemiddeld, maar je gehele bezoek maakt het meer dan de moeite waard.

I had roast yesterday....turkey processed no yours hire pud three soggy roast potatoes the rest of veg, I didn't even recognise I am sure they used washing up water for gravey it was dreadful. The studying was just lumps of I don't know what Still don't know how much I paid for this as they don't seem to advertise on menu...why am I not surprised

We visited with local friends - the owner Stephano was very helpful and welcoming. Especially accommodating for vegan and veggie choices. The service was quick and food was really tasty and authentic Italian.

We arrived and were made very welcome.The menu is quite good, if not extensive as is the wine list.Two of our party were disappointed with their meals but two were satisfied.The service was good and the staff were very friendly.The toilets could be updated with both Ladies and Gents cubicles in the same closet....not good.A nice atmosphere with a mixed age range including children.Parking was not a problem.We would not go back

An excellent evening out with our cousins who live in Seaford. Very good value 'house' Sicilian red wine and sea-food risotto was praised. Stefano a very friendly and welcoming host and the other staff friendly and well informed as well.

the prawn starter was very poor soggy small prawns or shrimps and 2 medium prawns on top the sauce was runny and tasteless soggy salad with water dripping in. horrible. all served on a small plate.main meal £22.95 for fillet steak very small size. soggy salad same salad as served on the prawn cocktail with lots of rocket salad on top. horrible. frozen chips. waste of money. it was meant to be a birthday treat . wont go again

we haven't be to diellas for a while so as a treat we thought we would go there.what a mess it was.naturally we was disappointing with the meal at diellas in seaford on Saturday night 15th July was not till we arrived home that we realise that having paid £120.00 that the general opinion was the meals were all full. the prawn cocktail was served up on a small plate not in a dish there were 2 medium prawns and what appeared like potted scrimps the sauce was horrible the salad was all wet and soggy there was water dripping of the plate had loads of rocket on the top, the fillet steak at £22.95 was so small the chips were frozen and soggy salad same as the salad which went with the prawn cocktail. horrible.we were looking forward to our meal but we feel it was just so disappointing.and it was meant to be a special treat.

Very expensive for below average food. Had fish n chips.. tiny fish .. £11.50. Can get so much better at the local chip pie! Slow service and worst of all the chef could be seen in the kitchen wearing scruffy jeans and a shirt. No chef whites or hairnet/hat.. !! Shocking!!! I pointed this out to the staff but they didn't see it as a problem .. Well I certainly do & anyone who works in catering or indeed with food would agree with me. Def an issue for the environmental health.

i have only been to Italy once and all i can remember was a nice place with bottle's of wine by the doorway table set a bit back the white brick arch and the customer service was great. well this is the place. walked in and it was just like i remember and the food wow is so good. i will be going back.

We had friends over for the day and booked Diella's for lunch, hadn't been here for ages, we all really enjoyed our lunches and agreed we would return, even better it was a sunny day and we were able to have a walk along the seafront.

Every neighbourhood should have a "local" the calibre of Diella's. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, extensive and comprehensive selection of food and wine and a real pleasure to share with friends. Was good to see the venue strongly supported by regular clientele. Examples of some of the mains are Eye Fillet Steak with vegetables etc. 22.50 pounds, Chicken Breast 13.50 Pork Lion cooked in cream with Calvados apples and sage sauce with Potatoes and vegetables 12.95. Extensive list of pasta ranging from Lasagne , Spaghetti Cabonara 9.75 Rissotto, Tomato, cream seafood and king prawns 13.95We chose wine 124 off the list. Salice Salento Riserva La Torre at a cost of 26 pounds. This was a 2009 vintage, rich in fruit and supported by lovely tannins with wonderful mouthfeel. It drank beautifully.The desserts were to die for - we had rum and raisin icecream with rum (Malaga Affregato) 5.95. One of our party had the "berry Soup" and it was delicious.Finally we exchanged comments with mine host Stefano who was working the floor and watching over things and by the time we left we felt as though we had known Stefano and his wife Lindsey and their staff for ages.A most enjoyable night out in a place that both deserves and is getting strong support from the local client base.They have a Sunday Roast and also have two course deals Tuesday - Friday for both lunch and Dinner. Get yourself along - you will not be disappointed.

My wife and myself visit Seaford often, and we always make a point of booking a tableavailability permitting. Italian food well cooked and presented.not cheap but the ambience and quality is not mc donalds

A very enjoyable meal, I had a salad with my meal which was a real mixed salad along with lettuce there was beetroot, chickpeas and sweetcorn.

On a 4 day break with the family, we parked up the campervan in Seaford and went in search of food. After a long and tiring walk with two children we found Diella's. Perfect. It was warm and friendly and quite old school. My son got melon and parma ham and was very happy. Then we had a mixture of pizza, Lasagne, seafood pasta and I had a curried cod dish - all very tasty and large portions. One happy family.

We ordered king prawns in garlic at £8.50 a Sartre. This had only three prawns and we thought the excessively expensive. The mussels were dry and very little sauce. So disappointing and we won't return. The waitress was very attentive and fed back our responses to her manager who just said there was nothing he could do about it.
