What has happened to what was a lovely cafe with very good food and nice service and atmosphere!!! Food is now just cheap catering crap, plastic sausage and pure salt bacon. Garden centre is better than ever but what was a nice place to grab a coffee and a cake and your garden stuff, is now a complete waste of money and disappointment.

This garden centre is absolutely amazing. The cafe however is a different story. The food pie, mash and veg was disgusting. It had clearly been warmed up in a microwave and the amount of salt that was put in the food was way over the top. Unfortunately we wasted most of it as it was that bad. It left the most awful aftertaste. Spoilt a lovely family outing.

Really poor food and drinks. We opted for the Yorkshire breakfast and frankly it’s was tiny and definitely not worth £8.50. There was one slice of bread that was spread with margarine… yuk!! The bacon was cold and overcooked and the egg yolk was rock hard and what on earth is that sausage’pattie’… husband left it because like the rest of the food it was cold and overcooked. Really poor experience… we won’t be returning.

Great find. Superb garden centre with lovely coffee shop. Plenty of parking. We have visited twice, both late morning time. It's busy but tables come free quite often. Menu has a good range from toast, to meals, to cakes. Lots of home made items too. Staff are efficient and kitchen appears very clean and organised. Plenty of bacon in the bacon bap. And they allow well behaved dogs in the coffee shop too. There is an outdoor sitting area which we are looking forward to trying once the weather improves. Prices are reasonable.

Called in for lunch with my husband, we had a sandwich and a portion of chips each which was ok, we decided to have a large Eccles cake between us, after a few bites we both commented that it seemed a bit stale so my husband looked at the date on packaging and it was out of date by two days, when I mentioned it to the staff I was told it’s a best before date and just a warning. 🤣. My husband also ordered a second coffee and we waited about twenty minutes for it too arrive. This happened on 23th February 2024, but don’t worry about the date it’s just a warning 🤣🤣🤣

The restaurant is spacious and well set out and seems popular. The car park was busy. I met a friend there. Please be aware you had to order & pay at the counter. We didn't know so sat there a while waiting for a waitress. My friend had the full english & I had scrambled eggs on lightly toasted bread with sides of mushrooms and beans. All looked good and it didn't take too long to come. Scrambled eggs ok but not as nice as I cook at home. Beans fine but the tiniest of portions in a ramekin, more would have been nice. Very disappointed with the mushrooms which were horrible. I would normally have said something but on this occasion just left them. They didn't taste like fresh mushrooms at all & were strange and rubbery. Decaf coffee ok. My friend seemed to enjoy her breakfast. But she didn't enjoy having to go outside, in driving snow, to the loo! Plenty of car parking and easy to find. Would return and make a different choice.

The only good thing about the cafe is that it’s local and has a good garden centre attached. The food is poor. We ordered brunch and drinks. Most of the drinks were cold, I even asked for ‘very hot’, it was still like warm and tasteless. Food was luke warm. The scrambled egg looked like a chopped up boiled egg at best. The gluten free menu isn’t great, not much choice at all. The whole experience, was indeed, luke warm

What a lovely place. Called for coffee and cake on the way to thirsk. Was so good called on the way back home 1 week later.

Went to till ordered food n drink , no mention of delay! Waited 20 mins went to till was told , I said there was 20 min delay ? Sorry no mention of delay I would not have ordered food if told she said I did say 20 delay ?? No she did not ! Spoke to people on desk not really interested in complaint and said ! There was a 25 min delay so time changed again ! It took over 30 mins to get food very disappointed in service and food management very blasé couldn’t care less ! Last visit to this place 🤬

The cafe at Lumby Garden centre, is one of the very few cafes, who charge 55p extra for a decaf coffee, one small packet of butter comes with a scone and a charge of 15p is made for an extra small portion. Almost every cafe I have visited includes at least 2 portions of butter with a scone. The coffee and scone where fine, not exceptional but ok, but why the extra charges? The toilets at Lumby need a serious upgrade. They are outside in a porta cabin type structure. On a wet miserable day, having to walk outside to the toilet, is not acceptable at all. Cannot understand how the owners think that the toilets are suitable.

Lovely breakfast as always, plus a special latte with smiley top, served up by our favourite waitress, the lovely Claire

Had coffee and toasted teacakes. Average prices but was disappointed that there was an extra charge of 55p for decaffeinated coffee. The teacakes came served with horrible margarine, yuk. I asked for butter, and this was given after I said that I could not eat margarine. The menu says a pat of butter is 15p, so I imagine if I had asked for it when I placed the order, it would have been charged for.

We had a lovely meal with tasty cappuccinos. The prices are very reasonable and a massive choice, it was difficult to decide! The cafe is very clean and comfortable and the staff don’t rush you out. We had a look round the garden centre and spoke to a couple of friendly guys. Thank you. We will be back!

The steak pie that was delivered to our table didn't even resemble a pie. It was almost black on top and not sure if it was supposed to be a pastry top as it was just a soggy mess and mush inside, no sign of any meat. When the waitress went to clear the plates we said it wasn't edible, she just said do you wont anything else, my sister said no as it had made her feel sick. Expected management to at least come and speak to us with an apology.

Called today for a sandwich and a coffee. Lovely sandwiches and lovely coffee, will definitely return.

Excellent cafe! Located just off the A1 - was the perfect place to meet my Mum, as is half way between us. I met my mum today for her birthday lunch, food was home cooked and delicious! We had cake (highly recommend!) and coffee after and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They provided a candle and sang happy birthday to my mum. Thank you for making my mum’s day special! It is dog friendly too which is brilliant, my dog Bella was very welcomed by staff and other diners. A great find and we will be back! Many thanks

Some good old fashioned time & motion training would make a difference The wait in the queue is made worse by the poor management. The tables the cafe have numbers but the annex don't so there is much confusion. Witnessed a young server confused about which table to serve so everything stopped, whilst the rest of the team stood staring into the cafe. Does it really need the person taking the orders & money, the person making the hot drinks & 2 servers to stop what they are doing every time there is a query. I witnessed this twice while I queued so wasn't surprised when our hot drinks arrived after we'd eaten breakfast. Some supervision would go along way & stop such poor practice customer service.
