Buzzy place with tasty cocktails, but I was disappointed by the food. It wasn't as flavorsome as I would have expected for the price along with the usual small plates portion sizes. £45 pp with one drink.

We have been here a few times now and returned to celebrate our engagement with family. Had an excellent experience with their set menu and the drinks and service were also fab. Would highly recommend. Staff are always very friendly and professional.

First visit and everything was amazing! Having dietary allergies means I have a lot of questions before I order and the staff here were brilliant - they could advise me on what ingredients were in all the dishes and which ones to avoid. The food was utterly delicious - the dirty rice is an absolute must - there was nothing left on any of our plates,! The lychee soda is delicious too - so nice to have great alternatives to soft drinks! Loved it and we will definitely be back!

Really tasty food and plenty of gluten free options. Everything we tried was great. We had the prawn crackers, the beef rib, potatoes, corn ribs and dirty rice.

Had a delicious meal at Lucky Yu on a Tuesday night. We ordered Dirty Rice, cured trout, cauliflower bao bun and the gyoza between two, the dirty rice was so good we got another portion. Service was quick and courteous, not intrusive and atmosphere was great although we were in early - 6pm to 7.30 and it started to get busier and subsequently louder after 7pm. The house red was excellent too and plenty of tap water provided and topped up frequently. Will definitely be visiting again and recommending to others.

The staff was very friendly and the place is cozy, good to go with friends. Price-quality of the food, we believe that it can improve in some dishes… Crispy potatoes 4/10 Seaweed trout 8/10 Pak choi 10/10 Prawn 4/10 Mushroom gyoza 4/10 The desserts were both great. Although the miso soup for the plum crumble we didn't love the combination.

Excellent dinner with my family. The food was phenomenal and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. I've recommended it to so many people since and will definitely back. Highly recommend the duck bao, salads and pork neck and the blue milk cocktail! So good!

We had a private table for my daughters 18th birthday which was just off the main restaurant so we still had the atmosphere of the restaurant. Food was exquisite and service was fantastic. Would highly recommend.

A must visit restaurant in Edinburgh! I found this restaurant via reviews online and Lucky Yu did not disappoint! The service was polite, friendly and fast. The food was delicious!! I also thought the food was really well priced for the quality. I wish we didn't live so far away so we could go again!

Delicious food, must get the fried rice. Great reception from a lovely American lady. Sadly the service massively decreased as the night went on, ending on a somewhat bad note as we waited a long while to get out check. It was like hurry hurry hurry and then ignore. Very odd.

I won’t be going back. Interior was lovely, and staff couldn’t have been nicer. But this is not good food. Karaage fried chicken was dry and overcooked (karaage should be potato starch batter, which fries to a light brown when cooked right), the pork neck was poorly seasoned and couldn’t quite work out what it wanted to taste like, and the duck bao was a disaster of a portion for the price - with a bao bun that felt like it could have been left to steam a bit longer. Vegetable dishes were better: the gyoza were decent, and the salad was very nice, but unjustifiable portion size for the price. Corn ribs were very nice, but again the price was about as aggressive as it could possibly be before you don’t order them out of principle. I asked for chilli sauce to try and add a bit of flavour to the dishes that lacked it, and they said they’d bring it out then didn’t. It’s a shame because I love the concept and so many of the dishes were nearly there. If this food were served out of a truck for half the price you wouldn’t complain, but this isn’t restaurant quality food at £35 per head standard.

Every dish was a taste explosion and the sodas were super original and flavoursome. The dessert with the pear and the sour dressing was strange tbh but everything else was lovely.

The food was ok but not spectacular for the price. The service was spot on and amazing. The braised beef was my fav but not listed below and I would have liked a meat gyoza!

I recently went to Lucky Yu with my brother-in-law and had a blast. This little Asian spot is a total gem! The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the gyoza's were crispy and packed with flavour, and the potatoes were a delicious surprise. And let's not forget the house beer – it was light and refreshing, the perfect complement to the food. If you're looking for a casual and delicious Asian dining experience, Lucky Yu is definitely worth checking out.

Best restaurant in Edinburgh we have been to since living here!

For me the combination of food quality, portion size and price does not match. Most plates were smaller and more expensive than they should be (a small plate of corn ribs, should be half the price they charge) and none of the dishes we had stood out. Shame as it's a nice enough place and the logo is cute but not enough to warrant a repeat visit

Very nice Asian cuisine with fusion hints. Good portion sizes for sharing, and excellent service. Only let down was the lighting of the room we were in, too dark and with a reddish tint that distracted from the true colors of the food. Very recommended!!

The food is good but nothing exceptional and especially for the price I would expect more. Highlights were the dirty rice and the bao bun. The cocktails and house sodas are very good and I can highly recommend any of them.

Lovely place with excellent food and friendly people working there.. The dirty rice was very tasty so was the short rib. The restaurant works in dishes to share style, you can try multiple things. Recommended to book in advance as it can be busy there.

The restaurant s conveniently located and easy to find. The food is excellent. The crispy potatoes were exceptional as was the tempura cauliflower bao. Food and drink came rapidly after ordering. Staff didn't make themselves easy to find to allow you to order.

This tapas style restaurant serve a wide variety of small dishes that were all very original. We had a mix from very good to good dishes, but everything was original and we really enjoyed trying them all. The cocktail was also good, but not too strong. The plates vary in size but their recommendation of 3 to 4 per person was accurate for us (the fried cauliflower bao was our favorite). It is a little pricey, especially for some of the smaller dishes but a very enjoyable experience overall with great service.

Every dish was utterly delicious (especially the dirty rice and aubergine) and very friendly, helpful staff.

You might be attracted by walking past and noticing customers eating karaage - it is a "fusion" cuisine restaurant with mainly Asian and Hispanic features, tapas atmosphere, so many plates to share with friends. Quite loud music and quite a shocking atmosphere, to also take into account in your visit. The restaurant recommends taking 3-4 plates per person - I would first advise taking two and seeing if you are still hungry... or want it since the quality is unfortunately very uneven. We had a first course consisting of a plate of karaage (good, juicy with a very good sauce to accompany them), a duck Bao bun (well-cooked meat) and spicy cold noodles (interesting if we managed to have some crunch at the same time). The second service was immediately subpar (in addition to a late arrival): average crispy potatoes, lacking a little cooking, 24-hour beef not bad but not exceptional either and a very very bad plate of dirty rice without any flavor, overcooked rice and without any real taste that manages to come off. This helped us quickly stop the damage here and not order more - not a bad thing considering that the bill quickly climbs by £10 per plate - the quality was not there for the asking price. However, don't be surprised if you are offered a "tip" at the time of payment: this corresponds to the service charge usually added to most bills which is left to you free here. Put 10/12.5% ​​depending on your desire to stay within the local standard.

Best meal we had in Edinburgh hands down. Loved the tapas style menu and everything we ordered was absolutely killer. Anyone who gets a chance to eat here really is lucky as the restaurant's name suggests!!

Been meaning to try Lucky Yu for awhile and I finally had time to go on Monday night. As expected, the cocktails were incredible - I’d go back just for those! Between my partner and I, we ordered six dishes, which was the perfect amount of food. The service was very friendly and attentive. I appreciated that there was no pushy attempt to upsell us, which I’ve experienced at similar places - the staff encouraged us to order whatever we were hungry for. Highlights included the pork belly, the dirty rice and the miso aubergine. I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce on the spicy noodles, but that could be a personal preference. Others have commented on the pricing of the food, but I thought that the only item that was a tad overpriced was the bao bun, which was still very tasty. Everything else was fairly priced and we were happy having spent £39 each for a fantastic cocktail and plenty of food.

Delicious food and great service. Would highly recommend. We appreciated the variety of gluten free dishes as our daughter is coeliac. The homemade sodas were fantastic and we all loved the Austrian wine!

Genuinely this was my favorite meal and experience that I have ever had. I've had other similar meals while back home in the states but the ambience, setting, and overall feel was so enjoyable here. Everything we ordered was fantastic and the drinks as well were very unique and just as delicious. We ate here on our last night in Edinburgh it was one of the highlights of our entire trip. I hope to be able to return in the future and hopefully soon.

We have been before but loved our second visit! We were there for my birthday meal with my husband, and when we arrived they unexpectedly gave me a birthday drink on the house which was so so lovely. The food was amazing and so tasty, as were the cocktails. The only thing I had a little issue with (and why I’ve marked down slightly) is because on booking I mentioned it was my birthday and requested a great table, but we were placed away from the main restaurant and against some open fire doors so it wasn’t too great in that respect. Everything else was amazing, it was just a little disappointing where we were put considering I’d made a specific request.

This is a favourite spot for pre-theatre dining for our family. Staff are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the dishes. Every visit has been thoroughly enjoyable and we look forward to visiting this peerless establishment again and again.

Cute restaurant, great service, but the food was very disappointing. We had the short ribs, pork belly and dirty rice come out first and thought they were good but a bit heavy on the sauce. We assumed our next dishes would balance it out since they were all vegetables and fish. The vegetables were completely smothered in sauce and it was way overbearing. Maybe that's a local thing, but it just came off as overly heavy altogether.

One of the best meals we've ever had. The staff made great recommendations and every dish we ordered was sensational (as well as the cocktails!)

Small portions but incredible taste

Absolutely incredible food, with good, prompt service. The braised short ribs were fantastic, along with the spicy noodles. All the dishes were delicious - would definitely visit again!

Super salty food. Very saucy as well. Ingredients that might be allergic not informed in the menu. For some might be good, but food is served super hot to guarantee a good burn on your tongue. Limited vegan options. Their drinks are amazing!

Loved everything I got. Was eating alone and was able to get a seat at the bar without a reservation. Portions are on the small side, so it works out that you can try 3 or so things easily and not have too much food, and the drinks I had were good.

Lucky Yu, Unlucky Us? 😂 Food was mixed, some very good, some very forgettable. The cured trout was particularly good. I did not like the dirty rice. There are lots of gf options which is a plus. Not somewhere for people who like subtle flavours I would say! The main problem was that the roasted aubergine was in such large chunks that trying to eat it with the chopsticks provided burnt my mouth (despite it having sat on the table for 10 minutes by this point). The waiters then ignored me for a good 5 minutes when I tried to get their attention to get some water to cool it down. The decor is modern and its a loud place but the lighting was just too dark when they turned it down at some point.

The place has recently opened I heard. Decor is fine, it's missing something though. Needs some vibrancy to go with the great neon lighting. Cocktails were fantastic but the presentation needs some working on, such asstandout garnishes and colours. Now for the food, what can I say other than 5/5 across the board. I am a picky eater and this made me try so many new and incredible things. Flavours are an experience. The service is fantastic, I believe the manager served me and was just a delight. This place has the potential to be something special in 2024.

What am amazing wee place. Described what kind of food we liked and any allergies present when booking and when we came in, the food arrived so quick, effortless and tasted AMAZING! our waitress was class and we all had a lovely time. The dirty rice and potatoes were unreal, bao buns were delicious and the trout / pork belly / chicken and all the vegetables were so flavourful and tasty. Will definitely be back!

Food was either dead salty, covered with sticky sauce or over fried with a hard crust. "Asian fusion" seems to be a warning sign for such culinary experience in the UK in general. Our server said the dishes would come out from the kitchen quick, so we decided to order 6 dishes to share among us 3 first, thinking we would order anther around to pace ourselves better; but the second round would never be necessary. We drank a lot of water to cleanse our palette after each bite. Unhealthy level of sodium intake, not even for once-in-a-while consumption, not worth a guilty meal anyway. Prices on the high side; low value for money.
