I am changing the 1 star review to 4 as in the last few years its got better,yes it was awful I will admit but.....since getting deliveries over the last year or so it's become very good......chicken chow mein is lovely and so it crispy chilli beef.....cant say fairer than that when the food has improved :)

Ordered the pizza box deal was absolutely amazing value and food was great

Hard to cut or bite into chicken balls and chicken so dry inside that it was sharp..... one chicken ball was so tough we had acompetition to see who could cut it but we all failed

bro, i got my food (chicken chow mein) i got home to eat it and it tasted and smelt like cigarettes, i now dont feel well and feel dodgy because of the smell and taste

The food is amazing!!! Tasted as good as the food I had back in Hong Kong. The staffs were very polite and helpful! Definitely recommend this shop!

First time getting Chinese from here. Ordered spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken which were both ok. But the Beef Ho Fun noodles were excellent. Not every Chinese does them but I love them and they got it spot on !!! Will return

Ordered the duck noodle soup. It smelled off. And so greasy. Its been repeating on me all night. And I actually feel sick. Its a shame as the last time I ordered the duck it was nice. However this time it wasn't. Won't be ordering again

Three dishes ordered. Arrived very promptly but, that was where the good aspect ended. One dish not as requested. I asked for less chilli but extra garlic, but I couldn't see or taste any garlic at all and the shredded chicken seemed all batter. Couldn't tell that any beef at all was in the shredded beef. The "special" chow mean was far from special. It looked very nice, a generous portion with plenty of meat and vegetables, but almost completely devoid of flavour. I couldn't identify what type of sauce it was at all. Bland,Bland,Bland. I know we don't get authentic Chinese food here, but I do expect it to taste of something.(And I don't have covid compromised taste) I had never ordered from here before, but don't think I will be going back. I guess that my search for good Chinese food in this area is far from over.

Haven’t tried much off the menu yet but Loved their chicken chow mein and their chicken curry. Wouldn’t go anywhere else now

The food tastes fresh, really well cooked. Not greasy and full of gelatine like most chineese take aways.

Man who answered phone very polite, explained why I had to pay charge delivery, delivery guy very polite too, food massive, so good, only reason 4 star as 1 of the sauces waw spicy, so put my boy off, will defo order again!!

The most terrible food I have had from a takeaway!!!! Wonton soup tasted of water with veg thrown in and the other dishes tasted off!! Complained and asked for a refund as the food was not edible!! I was told very rudely that as I had some of the soup they would refund only 80% and that they will never deliver to me again! Not even an apology just so rude!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED!!!!!! ordered with them this evening including one portion of chicken and one portion of pork balls. Now I have an intolerance to pork so what i didn't expect was for them to mix the bags together. Im now spending the rest of the night with the food playing havoc both ends of my body. Phoned to complain and the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL I asked for a refund and told her she's basically poisoned me to which I got told she doesn't care and if I return all the food I can get money back (I've eaten most other things by this point) so won't give me my refund. Will never use here again so if you have an allergy dont use here as they won't care if you die. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING AND TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do like the food from Lucky Star, but I wish they just had the manners to actually say please or thank you. Manners cost nothing, but they even stopped giving prawn crackers with orders

My favourite Chinese in Hemel. I normally order 2 large egg fried rice, chicken curry without mushrooms and onions and chicken chow mein without vegetables for a family of 4.... Its lovely

Won’t order anywhere else anymore and I’ve always used banana leaf takeaway.. not no more.. this food is so hot when delivered .. and the taste of some dishes are just gorgeous.. If u like chilli crispy beef .. u have to try theirs .. Yum 10/10

I often have to eat out due to my working commitments, I have honestly never had such a bad experience as I did in this place, my order was: Dim Sum, Special Rice, Thai Red Curry, The Dim Sum was not steamed but fried and ready far too quick and was cold inside, the rice was mushy, cold and tasteless, the Curry was watery and unpleasant, Just didn't have that Chinese authenticity, I did complain over the phone and they did offer me my money back, but I already had left and my hotel was not that close, I had just done a ten-hour shift! Please close down, to stop people suffering the same

Although it's usually a long wait and you can rarely get through on the phone it's worth it as the food is really good. The people there are also very nice and really supportive of each other.

Don't listen to the reviews.... Chinese here is spot on. Usually just order chicken curry, egg fried rice, boiled rice, chicken chow mein fir a family of 4. Price is good and food is lovely. I ask for no onions and mushroom in the chicken curry and we ask for no veg in the chicken chow mein and its always done properly. 5 star takeaway. Best in Hemel.

The food tonight was very tasty. We tried beef chow-mien for a change. Yummy. My only complaint is the lack of masks worn by the staff and some customers. Come on guys!

Rude service when ordering. But my god the food was properly atrocious. The worst tasting Chinese food I have ever had. I feel physically sick having eaten it. I truly hope I’m ok to work tmw. Never, ever eating there again.. yuk

The food was good but very disappointed that nobody was wearing a mask to protect both staff and customers during the COVID virus which made me concerned about their other hygiene standards. Therefore I will not be going there again.

This is usually a fairly average Chinese takeaway with reasonable prices for what you get. Our most recent visit has put us off however - the kitchen seemed chaotic and confused, few if any masks appeared to be worn. Portion size of the duck in orange was noticeably smaller than it usually is. It was also significantly sweeter than usual, while the chow mein was overly salty. Nothing was bad enough that we would bother to take it back, but next time we'll find somewhere else to try.

The food here is amazing, definitely the best Chinese takeaway I have had in a long time. I only have two complaints and that is that the packaging they use for some items does not seem sufficient to hold it as my last two takeaways I had, the curry had seeped out and caused a mess in the bag. The other thing I have noticed is that the menu say free delivery within 2 miles, which I am and have checked with google which says I am 1 1/2 miles away yet i have been charged both times for delivery. When i questioned this I was told I am 3 miles away. Does this mean they are counting there and back again as I have not experienced this with other places. Otherwise they seem great and I will continue using them if I can justify the extra charge for delivery.

Hemel Hempstead is well catered for with regards to choice when it comes to options for either eating out or take-away's. I was surprised by the choice in terms of number of Take-away's offering Chinese food. What is a good establishment is very subjective and it can vary depending on when you visit and the choice of food you like to like to eat. In an experiment I have decided to see if I can find the best and worst for any cuisine in this area. To get a level playing field over the last few months, I have visited each establishment at least twice over a period of time and ordered the same meal from each. In order to have a fare comparison, I decided to compare on the basics, namely Chicken chow mein and sweet and sour chicken balls as indicators of what the rest of menu may may be like. My objective was to find, in my opinion, the best Chinese take-away in Hemel. Lucky stars is tucked in a corner of the Stoneycroft shops complex in Warners End. Dated exterior and signage is not welcoming or promising of a culinary delight. Inside beyond the counter is an open kitchen.. an opportunity to display a mystical art of blending of spices and ingredients into a sizzling wok. Unfortunately, the open kitchen in this case does the opposite. The surly greeting at the counter is matched by the lack of enthusiasm of those preparing the food. There is no sense of the art of traditional cooking being handed down the generations. Price wise Chicken Chow Mein comes in at £4.70 and sweet and sour chicken balls at £5.20, making a combines £9.90 The chicken balls - Chicken size was small and dry and hard surrounded by thick soggy dough. In the average chicken ball ot appeared to be 2/3rds dough 1/3rd chicken - quite unpleasant. Chow Mein as well was unpleasant to the extent that we could not complete it and threw the rest away. To try to be fair we did do a 2nd visit, but unfortunately was the same experience as the first. This is not a place that we will return to. Comparing others has been difficult, this one stood out quite clearly from the rest as being poor in terms of Customer service and quality

Completely unnecessary minimum £10 restriction on card purchases. In 2019, when most people my age hardly ever carry cash, and when card transactions are considered the norm. The guy on the counter told me to go use a cash machine. When I stated I only had my credit card with me, he said I couldn’t purchase my food. What a waste. So they would rather throw my already cooked food out than allow me to pay on card. Beware.

Mr lucky star man laughed at me on the phone when. Little tipsy making everything funny to being with, after about 15 minutes it arrived which made me even happier, 5o top that... Best Chinese every I kid you not, very good, 10 out of10 would do again... Thank you and goodnight... *drops mic"

Are you under new management? Always used you and was always happy, but recently the food quality has plummeted. You have also added £1 to every item on the menu. This makes the whole meal FAR too expensive. It's actually cheaper for me to drive into Hemel town and buy a takeaway. Your prices are FAR TOO HIGH. Maybe 15p or 20p per item, but £1!!!! No thanks.

Disgusting food. Chicken is processed and stank of chemicals. Wanted to throw up. Have used this place for years. Never again.

Ordered regularly from here. Food always seems fresh. Must say Friday evening and Saturday evening it’s tasted best. Once hubby dropped bag of food walking out the shop. They sorted and replaced everything free of charge. Lovely people. Thanks a lot.

The customer service is fantastic. The person who served us was very friendly! Sadly the food let the place down. The Duck was not edible and it was so hard you couldn’t even wrap it up. The Lemon Chicken sauce tasted like washing up liquid as well. No flavour to the ribs and the prawn toast and satay tasted like they were part of an Asda Chinese party mix. I was very disappointed and sadly won’t be coming back. Shame as the person who served us was a very nice chap.

My local Chinese take out. Friendly service, and the boss remembers its customers. Ordered pepper salt squid, chilli beef, sweet and sour chicken cantonese, broccoli with king prawn, and chicken & mushrooms. Everything hot and tasty. The pepper salt squid wasn't on par this time as the seasoning was weak this time. Other dishes the flavour was great.

What have you done to your food, it’s so bad now. My husband and I ordered our usual after a hectic day, chow mein, salt and pepper mushrooms and prawn balls. The whole lot was stale, I’ve never eaten a rubbery fried prawn before, it was obviously just reheated and the prawn tasted off. One bite and I left the rest of my share of them. That bad when I peeled the Luke warm supposed batter off them the cat turned her nose up!! The fried mushrooms where the same rubbery and not fried, edible, but only because I was too hungry. The chow mien was passable but you can’t really do much to plain noodles!! However they tasted stale and were not piping hot. Unfortunately the food has gradually been going down hill but last night, for ease, we decided to give Lucky Star another go. It’s on the door step and was convenient, but sorry next time I’d rather forget convenience and use another take away.

Omg! If there was a option for no stars then I would of gave that!!!!!!!!!! I ordered sweet and sour pork balls, they tasted like suet! The sour sauce was like congealed vinger jam! BBQ ribs was covered in tasteless orange type slime. And I mean completely tasteless and also dry!!!!!! Chicken chow mein smelt really good. But yet again was tasteless almost like tofu! Prawn crackers was stale like polystyrene tiles! Really terrible! Only thing that was really good and I do mean really! Was the beef in black bean sauce. Cost was £20.10p I feel robbed!
