Lucky Lychee in Brighton and Hove

Amazing food! Very authentic and reminded us of our time travelling Asia. The staff were incredibly accommodating moving us to another table as I couldn’t sit on a soft chair due to my back injury. Couldn’t recommend more!

A quick brunch before going to the cinema which is only a stones throw away. A few snacks are offered alongside the brunch menu including their excellent prawn toast. The beef rendang stuffed rota was outstanding. Full of flavour with gentle warming spice. Service as usual spot on.

We had the private room at the back for our baby shower and everything was perfect! James was extremely accommodating and made the whole planning process easy and stress-free. Food was delicious, help was there on the day if we needed anything setting up, and the bar was well-stocked! Would definitely recommend for a private event. We’ve also had dinner and brunch in the restaurant and the food is amazing.

My goodness simply fantastic, the wife and I were in Winchester for a weekend break and to see some friends on Sunday, so Sat evening was all our own. I looked up Winchester Malaysian as my wife has a passion for the food and found Lucky Lychee. So I booked a table and we enjoyed excellent drinks and outstanding food. A truely super evening indeed and we shall be sure to return.

Heard a lot about the Lucky Lychee which is within the green public house and must say the food and service was excellent and would very much recommend a visit for the fresh and very exciting menu but feel a booking via web site is very easy and necessary.being a pub you also have a large range of drinks to chose

The food was very authentic and had different spice levels. The young waiter was friendly and explained the menu. It was very special to speak to the chef Jack who brought our meal. The venue is very unique with lots of interesting art work and artefacts. Wonderful to experience something different and we'll definitely be back whenever we visit Winchester

Without doubt the best Asian restaurant in Winchester (save for Kyoto Kitchen). Absolutely delicious food, nothing formulaic - everything we ordered was tasty and unusual, beautiful flavours, just so good. Service was well-informed and relatively attentive given it was a busy Friday evening. Restaurant full - a good sign! Well done to these independents making their way in a town full of bland chains.

Tasty food, but nothing special and the portions are very small compared to the price. It was a disappointing experience.

The best place to go in Winchester. If you like Malaysian food, then this is a must go to. The food and the staff are the best in Winchester. I've been to Lucky many times and I keep coming back. Thank you so much guys for the wonderful experiences.

Nice and relaxed. Friendly staff and really nice food. Simple menu, not expensive, good service at the right tempo. Decor is old pub style (it is after all a pub) , a but dark with anaglypta on the walls - very 80's -but comfortable for all that. well worth adding to the list of places to try - I hope they do well and that you'll have a good meal there too.

Booked the dining area at the back for 50th birthday party. Outstanding! Food top drawer. Staff amazing. Authentic food and blew our guests minds on the tastes and loads of it too. Dishes kept coming and hardly any waste. Your own bar and very attentive service throughout. We even took our own karaoke machine for the after dinner entertainment. We will be back for sure to sample more of the food…

Great food. Pork Vindaloo is epic, its real vindaloo, like you get in Goa, not the vile mess served by most take aways. Then you get to the Roti... omg the Rot is lovely. The portions are not huge, but they are more than adequate. The decor is quirky and service friendly.

Delicious food, cosy pub, excellent drinks and reasonable prices. Everything on the menu sounds delicious, and everything we tried was excellent. The flavours are strong and delicious. The pub is cosy - it was really busy and we were seated in the bar area so people were perching on the edge of our table / seats which was a bit annoying but understandable, I would request a table in the dining space behind the bar area in future.

Outstanding food, atmosphere, service and value for money. This Malaysian restaurant cannot be faulted. Would highly recommend the Pork Vindaloo although all of the food was fantastic. The atmosphere was great and although very busy it was not too loud, it just felt as if it was full of people having fun.

Have eaten here a number of times and have always had excellent food and service. I love that the menu changes and new dishes are added regularly. It also has a great atmosphere.

We had been trying to get a table here for a while so we were really looking forward to our visit. We arrived on time having received numerous texts from the table reservation company to remind us, thanks I guess?! We arrived and the only member of staff front of house appeared to be the barman, who we believe is also the owner, and told us where our table was. No one attended to us for 25 minutes to take our drinks order. We then had to order our drinks and food at the same time. Good variety of drinks including wine and cocktails. The food tasted delicious albeit the portions were on the smaller side for the price point. The food comes out as and when it is ready which was probably a good thing as our table was tiny but the waiter doesn't take the plates away, you just then need to stack them yourself. Overall, the service was pretty poor. Staff not familiar with either food or drinks menu and not very personable. I'd probably nip in for a cocktail and small plates at the bar next time.

I absolutely love everything about the Lucky Lychee. Set in the ‘Green man’ pub, lovely old characterful building, stylishly renovated with plenty of space and different areas. Varied Malaysian, with a good choice. Most recent time I visited was with 5 vegetarian friends who were all really happy with food and choice. Recommend the turnip cake for something a bit different. V tasty! I loved the slow cooked beef brisket. They mix up the menu regularly which is great so you can go back again and again as food is sooo good! Have been 3 times in last few months. Staff are really friendly too and great service. Primotivo wine is good. Highly recommend.

The food at The Lucky Lychee on Saturday was as usual incredible. We had an array of the dishes between 4 of us (including one veggie). The bao buns are the best I've ever had (including in Asia). The atmosphere in the Green Man brings a nice vibe and they provide great from scratch cocktails for a pre dinner drink. Would 100% recommend , it's without a doubt the best Asian in Winchester, potentially the best food in general.

We have visited here on more than one occasion, and each and every time the experience is amazing. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, they are on hand to recommend drinks at the bar and ensure you are looked after. If you are staying for food, the staff ensure you are seen to quickly and efficiently in a very friendly manner. Again they are on hand to help with the menu, and always know about the choices and flavours. The menu changes often, and the food is locally sourced, which keeps the place fresh and I am sure helps local producers of meat and veg. We have never had a bad meal, or bad service here and we have been more times than I care to admit. For central Winchester the prices are very reasonable and the food quality is by far one of the best in the city. My father in law, who grew up in Penang loves the authentic flavours and remarked that the smell of the food brought back memories of his youth. Best restaurant in central Winchester by a mile.

On previous visits the food and service has been great, however, our meal was a bit disappointing on our visit on Saturday night. We were not informed until we ordered that no tofu was available, as a vegetarian this is the main option for 3 of the vegetarian dishes this was really disappointing. For a Saturday night at 7pm to run out of the main ingredient of so many dishes was unacceptable. In addition they added peanuts to the dish my partner had even though we specified he had a peanut allergy and to not add them. It meant we ended up not eating our mains together as he had to wait for them to recook it.

Beautiful, beautiful food! You can tell it’s lovingly made by somebody who really knows what they’re doing, fresh with flavours really packing a punch but in a balanced rather than brash way. Just lovely. Also great attentive staff and a really casual but super cosy environment. Loved it. It’s rare to find truly great food, a gem for Winchester.

This was about the 5th or 6th time weve eaten in here. Weve always had amazing food and service, and considered it among the better places in Winchester to eat. This time, sadly, it wasnt quite as up to par as it has been. Granted, we didnt book but they always advertise keeping space for walk-ins and they got us seated in the bar which was no issue for us. The problem started when it took an age to get round to taking our order (there was 1 guy ont he floor (it was almost full at this point) and only 1 other one bar/helping out on the floor, and it was clear to see they were understaffed. We have never had to wait this long to for service and and to keep trying trying to attract the attention of them to come and take our order. The second big issue for me was that we hadnt been told when were seated that they had run out of one of their menu items - the large tamarind prawns(theyre amazing and we always get them when they are onthe meu) - bearing in mind this was around 6pm on a Friday, so not late. For the whole half an hour we sat waiting with menus to order, nobody came to advise us of this, and it was only when we finally managed to flag down staff to order did they then say "oh, weve run out..a massive table bought them all...." It was one of the best sellers on their menu from what I can gather from previous visits, and for them to run out so early in service??! Buy more of them! then I had to get up to the bar to ask for water myself....both little things in themselves but this place was always so slick and well-run. Now it seems they are struggling. I think some of the longer standing staff have moved on and they havent replaced. We will give it another go but not for a while. Hopefully they can get back on track as on the whole this place a little gem of authentic well made food and a cosy atmosphere
