Lucky House Chinese Take Away in Scarborough

Great food. Great service. Curry was delicious. Salt and pepper prawns were fab! Good value for money. Will definitely order again

Second time of asking for this takeaway, first time was poor so we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt. Won’t be going a third time though. Our food was served quickly but is was all pale and insipid looking. Very bland flavour and virtually no heat in a 3 chilli rated dish. The noodles and the batter on the prawn balls all needed an extra bit of cooking. I am pleased this place has a couple of good reviews but not for us at all.

Despite the poor reviews we read, we still decided to give it a go as it was the closest to where we were staying for my 50th birthday. We were not disappointed, the food was good quality, it tasted amazing and was still toasty hot when it reached the plates. Portions were absolutely huge and excellent value for money.

Food was absolutely stunning, ready when we requested it. Everything was hot and really tasty. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed it. We will be providing our custom next time we are in Whitby for sure!!

Always used this Chinese when we have come to whitby and been happy with food on this occasion very disappointed, I had the chilli garlic chicken, the sauce was very watery bland and hardly any taste will not be using it again

Been in last night for a take away food, reasonable price and tasty food. Staff is lovely and friendly. Would definitely use it again.

The food is lovely as always, service is good and quick, highly recommend the chef special dishes and starters.

Service was not with a smile. Food was awful and tasteless. Sweet & Sour sauce was yuk and so weak and runny.

I don't know how they have the nerve to charge for their food. All 4 of us had different dishes but the gravies & sauces were all so bland we could have been forgiven for believing we were all eating the same food. It was absolutely tasteless - I would not go there again if it was the only place open & I was starving. After 2 mouthfuls the rest went in the bin. Most tasteless food /dish , it was like left-over meat was in our House Special dish. Never had a Chinese as bad…ever !!!!

A group of us just not wanting to trudge about on a very wet Sunday night, Lucky house were able to take our order for collection. Typical "Chinese", nice portions, good and hot. Nothing special but very tasty all the same. We would order from them again. Shame they don't do delivery but in fairness nowhere in Whitby seems to.

The woman was very rude and cancelled our order after waiting for an hour and a half. She cut the phone when asking why

Walked in off the street for a take a way,they weren't very busy, didn't have to wait very long,the portion size of the meal was good,we enjoyed our meal very much,they only take cash.

it took 4 HOURS to get our food. we walked down from our rental, placed our order and was told 25 mins so we went in the pub next door to wait. we went back in 25 mins and was told another 25 mins, and so it went on. they were far more interested in the telephone orders than our order. it ended up being a group of 8 people (4 couples) all sat in the pub together waiting for our food. then when got back to our rental the order was wrong. luckily it was something we could eat as there was NO WAY WE WERE GOING BACK for another 4 hours. when i say it was something we could eat that is a bit if an overstatement too. the sauce was watery and COLD, how could it be cold after 4 hours of cooking!!??, and the chips were the worst chinese chips ever. IF I COULD LEAVE A MINUS RATING I WOULD!!!!!!

We had been looking for a Chinese takeaway place, when I saw the reviews about the Lucky House in Whitby. We were certainly not disappointed . We had a three-quarters of an hours wait, but it was worth it . You can ring your order in then ìt will be ready-to collect. It is CASH ONLY. a point I think that needs pointing out, as so many people these days only carry cards, and were having to go out to the hole in the wall for cash 😃. We will definatley be calling again on our next trip to Whitby.

Visited Lucky House for a takeaway whilst on holiday in Whitby and can highly recommend it. The service, price and food were excellent.

Well that was s***e. The black bean sauce could have been scooped straight out of the harbour. Watery doesn't do it justice. This place surely can't have regular customers, only saps like me in town for the night. Truly awful.

We had 3 meals as a collected takeaway.. when the seaweed was the only dish with any flavour you know there is a problem. All three Chicken dishes looked and tasted the same .. basically of nothing .. The Special fried rice was ok.

Average Chinese, the chicken satay didn’t taste at all like satay sauce but the rest of the meal was reasonable. It wasn’t greasy which is the saving grace.

We have been coming to Whitby for years but have never had food from here before. To be honest, we had planned to order at Kam Thai at the Railway Station but it was closed so decided on here instead. We ordered a chow mein, ribs, egg fried rice, satay chicken, soft noodle and sweet and sour chicken (plus chips). The food was nice, no complaints. Not expensive either.

Arrived last night, first night is always strange not been before so choose a takeaway close to where we are staying. It was not poor but not good limited rice's apart from specials, egg fried rice was poor special fried rice fair, prawn crackers that poor I just gave them to my 2 dogs = no taste at all, duck with cashew nuts ok but not allowed to have meal in plum sauce, I either had duck with plum sauce or duck with cashew nuts no allowed to mix, wife's meal was ok. Curt service would I go back unfortunately not.

We use this establishment once a week and they have never let us down. Good food cooked to order and great value too. The staff are friendly and orders are taken down with great care. Note no delivery service, so collection only and no cards taken.

First time visit to Lucky House and well worth it, food was excellent worth every penny definitely visit again when in Whitby highly recommended...

Living locally here in Whitby, there is a choice of 4 Chinese outlets, and this is by far the best of the four. Have used the Lucky House regularly for years, and never once had cause to complain about the quality of the food, friendliness and service from here. Orders are always presented hot and fresh, always ready when they say and the orders are always correct too, something you don't see in a lot of places. The only downside is that they stopped their delivery service a couple of years ago, no big deal for me as I'm less than 10 minutes drive away anyway. How anyone can leave bad reviews of this place is beyond me, those bad reviewers need to try the Ocean to see what bad food and service is all about! Absolutely no intention of going elsewhere for my Chinese food - this place is excellent, consistently excellent, and I have no reason at all to try elsewhere when I know any meal from here will always be spot on.

Wowzarooooonie!!! All these bad reviews are absolute NONSENSE. Just had a top top top Chinese take-a-diddle from this top top takeaway. Proper succulent chips, crispy outside fluffy middle. Perfectly cooked egg fried rice. The crispy salt and pepper chicken was just absolute silliness. SERVICE WITH A SMILE, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE PURE DARLING. By far the worst ‘chinese’ I’ve ever had. If you are thinking of going there is one simple thing you can do to save yourself from the food. Don’t walk in the door to order, walk around the corner where you can see in to the filthy disgusting kitchen which partly explains the awful quality of food. I wish I’d ordered the ‘ok’ sauce off the menu as everything I did order was far less than ok. Slimy (probably frozen) chicken, slimy noodles, disgusting sweet and sour, tinned mushrooms.... surprised they have been open so long unless they pray on the one visit holiday trade. Please save your money and your stomach

Here’s the thing, I have never been to a Chinese takeaway where the telephone does not ring for orders. Well it didn’t ring here and I know why. The food was of poor quality and flavour was disappointing. The ribs were from an anorexic pig, the chicken wings bland and tasted “old”, the chicken balls soft and a little stodgy. The blandest sweet and sour sauce. Chow mien was bland and the noodles over cooked in the gravy / sauce.Such a shame.

One of the tastier Chinese takeaways I’ve had. We placed a large order over the phone, the order was hot and ready as stated, they even gave us free prawn crackers 👍 I would use agin the next time we are in Whitby.

We been in for a try as were recommended by our friends. So impressed by their curry sauce and Singapore chowmian even better tasty than where we live.

We ordered from here as it was listed on Tripadviser as the best rated chinese takeaway in Whitby. Sadly I was a bit disappointed. We ordered ribs, spring rolls, chicken fried rice, chicken and cashew nuts and special foo yung. The ribs were good. The spring rolls lacked filling. The fried rice was good. The chicken dish and foo yung looked grey and unappetising and weren't great. I think next time we just won't opt for a chinese whilst in Whitby if this is the best there is.

Had a lovely takeaway crispy beef and chicken and cashew nuts egg fried rice all nicely cooked and still hot when we got back to caravan.had to wait about 25mns but wasn't a problem,you can ring in advance order and pick up.would definitely go again when next in Whitby.

We've been in for takeaway a few times while we stayed in whitby. Gorgeous food and excellent service. We love the noodle dishes here, will use all the time.

The chicken balls were like rubber balls. Stodgy batter, reformed chicken. Noodles tasteless. Ribs, not cooked fresh. Everything tasted re-heated. Waste of money. Put in the bin.

Just had crispy beef. The best I have ever had and was what it said it was and not unchewable rubber. Really enjoyable

The chicken balls were yummy but could be crispier the special fried rice was yummy and plentiful the chow mien was a bit on the soft side and lacked some fried flavour but was still yummy. The sweet a sour pork was spot on.

Lived in Whitby for 2.5 years and this was the first time we used this takeaway. Food rather tepid and tasted much better when the leftovers were heated up. Large portions hence the leftovers.

We had three meat dishes and a vegetable one all were really nicely cooked. One of the best Chinese meals that we have had in a long time.

We have just had a take away from here, sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour king prawn, not king prawn, small prawn, made to look bigger with thick stodgy batter and the sweet and sour sauce tasted of vinegar and nothing was added ie fruit, such as pineapple which is the norm, so threw most of it in the bin, needless to say we will go somewhere else next time

Considering the lack of Oriental take away, I found the food served here was of a fair price and the quality was above average and the good thing is, never felt ill after one of there meals. Reasonably fast service too.

Stayed nearby so popped in one evening, courteous staff who explained that order would be 30 mins wait, but this was OK as we could pop back. Food was very nice and reasonably priced, will call again when back in Whitby.

Always get lovely food from there. I'm local so it's my go to takeaway. The sweet and sour chicken balls are to die for!

I visited for a take away for the 2nd time and was disappointed - the person taking the orders always looks under pressure which means that is is not a friendly experience - the food this time was unremarkable and our party of 4 all left most off it

After the ghost walk we went for a takeaway. Typical menu and well priced. Food took about 5/10 minutes hot and tasty, Good sized portions. One tip: they only take cash but there are cashpoints at the bank round the corner

We are on holiday in Whitby and fancied a change from Fish and Chips - we’ve been past the Lucky House a number of times but never been in. We went on a Saturday evening, it was busy (which I believe is a good sign!), our order was taken quickly by the friendly staff member - prices were on par with what I would expect. The wait time was 15mins - which was good. The food was hot and there was plenty of it. It was really tasty. We would definitely return.

Usual Chinese Fare, food was tasty and fresh, price was what I’d expect to pay. I would return to use again
