I love the food here, the prices are a bit expensive however it’s definitely worth it as a treat in my opinion. I love the chicken skewers, the rice and curry sauce, the chicken chow mein was also pretty good. The staff are okay, not overly friendly which i enjoy I’m not too keen on waiters putting on a full performance to possibly get a tip, staff in here just do their jobs, love that. Overall it’s a pretty casual atmosphere with options to sit in or takeaway, or for delivery. However it is closed Monday and Tuesday, but open every other day from 5-10pm however 9pm cut off time for sitting in. Street parking is available however it may be difficult during busier/tourist periods. Pets not welcome.

Absolutely horrendous experience. My friends and I spent ages trying to find a place to get cash out (the restaurant is cash only) in order to get takeaway food. We were about to order and then were told that even though we were purchasing food, we couldn't use their bathroom (it wasn't broken or anything). The server told us to sneak into the pub next door, to use their toilet (without paying, presumably). Utterly weird experience. We decided not to eat there after this encounter and judging from the rest of the reviews, we made a good choice. Management needs to take a good look at themselves, what sort of owner bans their customers from using their facilities?

We were on holiday and after a busy day out we fancied a takeaway to take back to where we were staying. The guy at the front desk, taking orders, wasn't particularly friendly (even though one review mentioned "service with a smile"). The food is very expensive for a takeaway and bland. We wouldn't recommend it. We were surprised at the low quality as it seemed several regular customers came in and the phone was constantly ringing. Perhaps if there isn't much competition in the area there's no incentive to be better or no where else for the locals to go. The only positive was that there were several vegetarian options.

Lucky House offers standard Chinese takeout fare, but be prepared for a wait, especially during peak hours. The food was adequate, satisfying a craving but not leaving a lasting impression. If convenience is key and you're not looking for a culinary adventure, Lucky House could be a decent option. Just factor in the potential wait time.

We ordered a takeaway and asked if they could make something up not on the menu, this was agreed as it said this could be done on the leaflet. When returning home with the items ordered we found that the item that was going to made up was not in the bag. This meant a return trip to the restaurant to find the missing item. On arriving at the restaurant and discussing with the owner the whereabouts of said item he answered that it was not listed on the menu therefore had not been made even though he had agreed to it before. This was really disappointing as the vegetarian in the group was left with just rice and noodles. This restaurant is not bothered about keeping local customers. Will never go here again!

We have been customers of Lucky House for years. Now sadly restricted to takeaway only in lockdown, Tony Shek provides good Cantonese food and well balanced banquet takeaway meals. In January and February there have been fewer seafood specials due to lockdown although recently we enjoyed an outstanding portion of fresh prawns in a sweet and sour sauce. Rice dishes vary vary rather than being only boiled or fried. The noodle dishes are good too!

Lucky House never disappoints. Even though the kitchen was under pressure, got a fantastic meal. Re the few negative reviews below - if you go into any busy mixed takeway & restaurant at peak times and expect Michelin star restaurant service, you're probably naive and need to get out more. Give the guys a break, they crank out excellent Hong Kong western style food with great flavour at a reasonable price. And will reflect back the attitude you bring in - reckon if you've had negative experience there it says more about you than them. How would you react to people behaving rudely to you in your place of work?! Amazed Tony doesn't wave his big chopper about more often....

Tony Shek reopened The Lucky House for takeaway meals only in June, offering home delivery in North Berwick and adjacent parts of East Lothian. The menu is available online. We live near the restaurant, but during lockdown we were glad to get home deliveries. Our neighbours have also enjoyed the quality of the preparation of the dishes offered from a classic Cantonese menu. For special occasions North Berwick lobster with noodles or salt and pepper lobster amy be available. We have enjoyed a variety of starters, from steamed pork dumplings, spiced chicken kebabs and duck with pancake to spare ribs. Beef with chilli is an interesting main dish, and the Pak Choi in oyster sauce is as good as ever. Those new to North Berwick should consider the Lucky House for takeaway meals delivered to your accommodation. It has been great to have it back in business again!

My partner and I are long time customers of the Lucky House, which has been serving North Berwick residents and visitors for years. Although tastes in Chinese food are very different in London, as I understand it, there is a long tradition of Cantonese cuisine in Scotland, epitomised by the Scottish-Sino atmosphere at the Lucky House. Now that we are retired, we go to the Lucky House for takeaway food more often than we sit in, and a strength of the restaurant is the balanced offering of takeaway food from the counter front of house, and the restaurant interior with a view into the kitchen, where the chefs are often led by Tony Shek, the proprietor.Recently we ordered banquet takeaways both on Scottish New Year and on Chinese New Year, which of course this year was also Burns Night! On Scottish New Year, fish was to the fore, well sourced, although there was roast duck with hoi sin sauce, sliced cucumber, spring onions, and pancakes as a starter. Chet Special steamed sea bass with ginger and spring onions was delicious, along with Kom Po King Prawn with cashew nuts. The Pak Choi with oyster sauce is always well made and fresh. At Chinese New Year, there was duck and pancakes again, well prepared, but the accent generally was on chilli with a soft prawn in sauce dish and a combination meat chow mein with pak choi as a separate dish. With less spicy side servings of fried noodles and boiled rice.So two different approaches to Cantonese cooking over two holidays, from fresh fish to a bit of heat for dining on a cold night. One advantage of takeaway dining is that we can range widely in choice of wine, and found that Argentinian torrontes white well able to stand up to the spice!

Have been going 2 the lucky house for yrs on and off. For a while, went 2 the quality house, wen it was open as had avoided it for a while, as even though cheaper the food was no where near as good. But close 2 it shutting had a cpl of order s with friends that was pretty good, plus they gave u free prawn crackers lol. But due 2 opening hrs of lucky house & having gone 2 other pizza takeaway in its place had not been for a while. But other night we Ordered 2 x beef curry and 2 x egg fried rice, with prawn crackers. The food was amazing, the size of the portions were massive that I could not even completely finish my curry and rice in one go. But compared 2 other Chinese takeaways have been 2 wen ordering elsewhere in East Lothian, the lucky house in nb is deffo up there with the best! The food didn't just taste great, but the rice was in no way dry like some places, the beef was lovely and tender, and had loads of sauce. Would have given the lucky house 5 stars based just on food def. But gave it only 4 stars, as had a pretty long wait for the delivery even though it was a w end. That unlike most Chinese takeaways in East Lothian, ordering even this amount, you would get free prawn crackers, but had to pay an extra £2 odd just for prawn crackers which thought was a bit ridiculous. Also another reason for not giving 5 stars is opening hrs. I am sure they used 2 b closed just one night a week. But now they are closed Mon and Tues! We had tried the Tuesday b4 2 phone in a delivery, but with them being closed we ordered pizza instead. Would have thought that with how established lucky house is, it could cover staff 2 b open 7 nights a week. I get that if it is just a small staff no in a takeaway that they will not be open 7 nights a week as, clearly staff need nights off. But I would have thought that lucky house is established enough to not be closed 2 nights out of 7! But apologies for the huge review. Basically the lucky house is amazing food, friendly staff, but could do with not being closed 2 nights a week, or not doing what most similar restaurants would do which is free prawn crackers and quicker delivery. But overall deserved 4 stars

Plenty of beef, & beef was really nice. Had too pay extra for the prawn crackers though. Would have been 5 out of 5. But other take aways would have included free prawn crackers. I know some include free bottles of juice etc if you spend a certain amount. But most include free prawn crackers esp with an order of 2 mains and 2 rice. Grudge paying around £2 for the crackers when already ordering decent sized orders. But... Not gonna complain too much, or knock the take away too much over that. The staff on the phone were friendly and helpful. The home delivery was quick, around 25 minutes at the weekend. The delivery driver was friendly. And as I said. Over priced (and not updated prices on the website), the food was terrible. Lukewarm at best, the food is bland and so over priced. £4.20 for ‘soft noodle with bean sprouts’ and what we got was a small container with dry noodles with one bean sprout. I promise it was about 6p’s worth of thread noodles. Their salt and pepper chips used to have an amazing salty/ spicy batter and now it’s just soggy chips with salt and onions. My Kung Pao dish was tasteless at best. Such a shame as there really are no other Chinese takeaways in NB but a pot noodle would be better.

Early on a Sunday night the restaurant was quiet although we could see a steady take away trade was occurring. We had a great meal from the set menu for two which was excellent value and too much food. The excess could happily have been taken away. The waitress was attentive and a joy to inter face with. The quality of food was near the top of the range you would expect from this Cantonese restaurant and represented very good value. We have lived in Taiwan for 3 years and visited the Far East during our forty years working around the globe and sampled everything from street food in Taiwan to Banquet meals in Taiwan and Hongkong. We came back because a group of us dined here a year ago while visiting and were equally impressed.

I have been to the Lucky House a couple of times since moving to North Berwick in December. Once for take away and once sitting in. Both times the food has been really decent, well made, and high in quality (and quantity). The disappointment has been with the service. The manager (owner?) gentleman that has been on both times has been off hand to the point of being rude. An example of this was that we had asked for a glass of soda water to be replaced due to lack of fizz (it was flat), pretty much within seconds of it being delivered. The manager told us that was how soda was supposed to be and that half of it was gone. Neither point was correct and given there were 5 of us (and ended up spending over £100 on a cold mid-week night when there were very few others in) it felt really disconcerting. Even when I went to get a take away, there was no friendly welcome, thank you etc, at any point.

Had a takeaway from here which we ordered on the phone and was ready really quickly. Friendly service, good pricing but the food was just a little uninspiring. It lacked the flavours and interest of Chinese food. Not bad, just a bit forgettable.

Food was o.k., however, a bit too spicy for my liking (and most of the others who were with me). Server was friendly and warm. Unfortunately, the chef (who was also the owner I was told) was most certainly not good with people. A noisy table was seated next to us and was causing a real raucous... seamed to be a large family of locals who were celebrating something. Funny at first but one young lad was having perhaps a little bit too much fun... which became tiresome for other patron's in the restaurant. A few patron's had enough and left. As the noisy table beside us were locals, and the six of us, tourists from Canada, the mean old chef/owner took his anger out on us, dropping f-bombs and generally being offensive and belligerent toward us. What was amazing was that we were politely trying to calm the table down beside us, unbelievable. This after we spent over 300 GBP on our dinner and wine. Regretably, would not recommend. I would rate the food 3 stars, but the treatment from the owner 1 star. He needs to develop some proper people skills.

Awful takeaway last week. The ribs were awful and burnt to a frazzle, the side order of bamboo, bean sprouts and water chestnuts was actually an onion and carrots!! Won’t bother again. It’s over priced and lacking any quality.

Very disappointed, this Chinese has gone down hill massively, wont be ordering food from here again. Chicken was dry and flavourless along with the ribs, best part was the fortune cookie.

I have ordered 3 carryouts in last few weeks. The owner does a calculation in his head. I thought price was more than expected and on last trip, added it up myself. Once again 25% more than expected. When I asked owner he apologised and said the amount I was overcharged, (before recalculation). Food is OK and maybe fine for locals using frequently but visitors, check before you pay

We've lived in East Lothian for 24 years and have been visiting Lucky House for take aways for 20. Have tried all the others that have came and gone - or are still around - and this is still the best food.

Tried this chinese after getting a carry-out from the Quality House a couple of nights prior. The Lucky House had considerably better food in direct contrast as the orders were the same from both establishments. The lady who served us was also very pleasant.

Booked with friends for my 60th birthady and fortunately was able to get some special dishes cooked due to the fact that I visit regularly. Razor Clams were absolutely gorgeous as was Sea Bream. Restaurant can get busy so be prepared to wait, the waitress does a brilliant job and keeps you well informed.

Busy little Chinese restaurant. Had to wait a while to be served but what we had was not bad at all, not the cheapest. The staff were very pleasant.

Last minute decision to pop in for dinner. Empty apart from one other diner but seemed busy on takeaway food. Typical Chinese menu with a large selection. Service really friendly and fast and the food was well prepared

We enjoyed the sense of occasion Tony, Lei and Tony's sister provided on Hogmanay at the Lucky House. Tony was in the kitchen cooking with is chefs, front of house service was good although of course the restaurant was very busy. We particularly enjoyed the soups as part of the set menu, and the salt and pepper monkfish. The Lucky House is a traditional Cantonese restaurant as they evolved in the UK, and the tinned lychees (our favourite) in red jelly as a dessert provided a suitable celebratory end to the early Hogmanay sitting at this long established restaurant in North Berwick. The takeaway trade was brisk as well and demonstrated how many people both residents and visitors to North Berwick have enjoyed this restaurant.

Absolutely disgusting meal, chicken Cantonese sweet and sour was full of grissle and the king prawn curry was bland separated and prawns were not fresh, total waste of money and a spoilt evening in. I will never return to what use to be a decent Chinese!

My son bought this deep fried beef dish. I took it back to say it wasn’t fit for human consumption and would like a full refund to be shouted at and asked to leave the shop. The lettuce was off and the beef wasn’t any better also dish looked as dry as an Arabs sandle . I Wouldn’t give this to a dog definitely won’t be back. (Food still under scientific review) lol

Delivery was a bit late, ok I’ll phone- got message they are closed, turns out it’s an old ansaphone message . Food delivered ten minutes late - that’s ok, however the lemon chicken had no lemon and was tough as old boots, inedible. Nicely offered free lemon chicken next time- not really what I would prefer as I am visiting friends. Overall a fairly average meal. With confusing menu as regarding sauces. Sorry- but can’t recommend

Bought lemon chicken and boiled rice but had to throw it away when I got home. The rice was hard and tasted ‘old’ like it was cooked yesterday. Half the chicken was ok but the rest had a strange taste and I didn’t want to risk food poisoning. There was also very little sauce. What a shame as I have visited this takeaway quite a few times over the years but I’m wondering if it’s changed hands? I phoned to let them know about the food and got no joy. Sadly I’ll not be driving the 20 mins to return and waste money on unpalatable food.

We had a very relaxed meal, it wasnt busy sitting in, only us on a Tuesday night. Food was good and quick service. Toilets were a bit of a trek for my brother who has a disability.

When I called to make an order for collection I was told 15 mins only to be left waiting a further 20 mins on arrival. While I was waiting the delivery bag was filled with 4 delivery's that sat on the counter the whole time & was still there when I eventually left. The guy's attitude was awful. If it hadn't been for the girl delivery's driver going through the back I would still have been standing there. I called out to them twice and I was completely ignored. Now on to the food ......... cooked within and inch of it's life. The pork was as dry as a stick, the fried rice looked like boiled rice, no egg or colour to mention, the chicken curry has more onions and sauce than chicken. It's a shame you can give minus star reviews.
