Interesting menu, great choice of salads. We had a small (wobbly!) table in the snug upstairs room. The food was very good, fresh tasty and varied. More expensive than we had planned for our lunch but good quality.

We called in today and had a very pleasant breakfast, muesli and porridge which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were served by a very pleasant young lady called Angel. The gentleman behind the bar making the drinks on the other hand was extremely unfriendly and miserable; we felt we were an inconvenience to him really coming in at 9am. Not sure I would return which is a shame as was lovely coffee too.

Called in for a take away breakfast. £11 on two hot drinks and two bacon sandwiches, so a decent price. Apparently costs more if you eat in. Staff are pretty friendly. The sandwiches were very tasty and the cafe do alternatives to cows milk, which I was happy about. Decent place!

We visited a lucky days in York for breakfast and was so impressed we had to try another for lunch (Low Petergate). And my gosh! This was one of the best lunches we’ve ever had. From the atmosphere to the food, nothing was amiss! And to top it off we were served by Toby who was super lovely and made the whole experience one to remember! A asset to your team and we will definitely be returning to this restaurant again! The choices are more than we would’ve expected and for such a good price! Everything tasted so fresh and really hit the spot! Thank you to the staff at lucky days who were so attentive and made our lovely food, and thank you for Toby for being the best server we could ask for. 10/10 from us!

Came in for breakfast on a day out in York. First plus is that the staff were very friendly throughout. Found the food a touch disappointing though - I just had scrambled eggs on toast and they were served cold. Not cheap either. And although it was a reasonably nice October day the front door being open throughout made it very draughty (we were downstairs). Nice enough place but really nothing special.

I've been several times before, but I probably won't go again. I was on my own. I tried the Church Street one first, but they didn't attempt to seat me so I left, and went to Petergate. The food was okay, and on the expensive side (£21 for lunch). No coffee or hot chocolate (coffee machine was broken) - these things happen, I guess. No coleslaw today. And no WiFi - one one hand, I appreciate that a "restaurant" should be for eating and socialising, not for using gadgets; but on the OTHER hand, LD seems to position itself more as a cafe / deli than a restaurant, and I would definitely visit more if I could use Lucky Days as a place to have a snack, cake, coffee, and do some work / journalling while there. This would help them to generate business during any quiet periods (it was dead when I left, at about 3:30pm, after which I went to Waterstones Cafe for a coffee and cake, and used their WiFi.) So, it's just not 'great' in any areas, for me; and so for the cost, I'll go elsewhere. I think they are missing a trick with the WiFi though.

This Lucky Days seemed to be busy whenever we walked by. We decided to venture in for lunch as the menu appealed. We were waited on by a wonderful friendly young waitress who was extremely polite. The Moroccan Chicken and three salads were super, as was the soup my husband had. However, we did notice that the walls could do with a thorough wipe down and spruce up and the floor underneath the shelves needs a good clean. The best meal out we have had yet this week.

Part of our order was for scone, jam and clotted cream. I was sadly very disappointed. The scone was very dry and hard, but worse than that, it came already done (with jam/cream), there was very little jam, the barest scraping, and the clotted cream was totally solidified, awful. We later discovered that the scone had sat in the window, uncovered or refrigerated all day, until we arrived at gone 3.00pm - yuck! Who doesn’t keep cream in the fridge??!! Staff were pleasant, but unfortunately this didn’t compensate or the scone!

The food is over priced and very average quality and quantity. Two of us ordered a chicken panini and a tuna sandwich which came with salad leaves plus a weird choice of three further salads from a selection of six. There was hardly any filling in the panini, the sandwich was very average size. The food was 60% salad things. Both items - the panini and the sandwich cost £12.50 EACH ! We would have preferred to have the main food items but without the extra salads and pay a few pounds less. Service was OK. We were very disappointed with what we got and what we paid . Will not be going there again.

A great little place for a pit stop. However a couple small points. 1: Customers don’t really want to be subjected to gossip by the staff, if seated near the till.2: Also if the owner wants to micromanage the day manager and waiter staff. I would advise it’s done in the quietness of the main office and before the shift starts. A little off putting whilst there. All that put to side. We would definitely visit again

Average describes our experience at Lucky Days really well. The main reason is the food sounded so much better on the menu than when it arrived! The bread is described as ‘hand carved as thick as your thumb’ so I was disappointed to receive thin sliced wholemeal bread with my bacon sandwich. The sandwich was tasty however the extra black pudding was not included but still on the bill! My husband had the full breakfast one of the poached eggs was badly cooked. So in general ok but so many nicer places especially outside of the main area

4 of us here for lunch on a busy Thursday. I like to support local businesses and been a few times before . Was with a couple of friends I hadn’t seen for a long time . I had previously had really nice food here. However, on this occasion it was disappointing . We chose the ‘sandwiches’ which I would not describe as sandwiches at all. It was a piece of toast with a bit of tuna on top. The salads were good but overloaded with tarragon. Some things were not available . Confusion about the addition of egg mayonnaise to a shredded ham ‘ sandwich’ . No staff came to see if the food was ok once we had started eating ! One friend had steak in some sort of bread which was very crispy. As I had recommended this place to eat I felt let down. When I was paying the bill I queried about the sandwich and was then told we could have had ‘traditional’ sandwiches ! Was too late by then . I will think twice about revisiting .

We arrived at the Low Petergate branch of Lucky Days at round 5:10pm, and were greeted to sit on the lower floor, without warning that the store was to close at 5:30pm. We sat and ordered quickly. The food arrived almost immediately, suggesting that it had been left out all day. My friend had lamb meatballs and salad and I had a salmon sandwich. All of the food was cold and my sandwich was cold salmon on one slice of bread. My friend immediately said that the meatballs did not taste right, and mine was just as disappointing, it was clear that it had been sat out all day and tasted like food from a buffet. The waitress attempted to clear plates twice when we had not finished eating, and then came over to tell us that they were closing soon. I rushed the food down and my friend left the majority of hers. As soon as we stepped foot out of the cafe, the door slammed behind us, we had no chance to use the toilet or get ourselves together, we felt thrown out. Within a few minutes my friend needed to use the bathroom and had to get a taxi home with an upset stomach to go. Due to COVID there were no public toilets open so this turned out to be quite a traumatic experience. We did go back a couple of days after when we were feeling better and were given a refund right away. The staff and manager seemed quite aware that there was a problem with the lamb and salads which was surprising!!Overall, I felt very rushed and I wish that we warned that it would be a rushed experience as that is not what we were looking for. Disappointing service and quality of food.

Great food and service. The staff were really friendly. The food was lovely and the service was prompt despite being busy. Theres a separate kids menu. I can fully recommend the green curry soup and the paninis. Plenty of food on the kids meals which is great for my 9 year old. The food was fresh and really tasty.

Lovely to enjoy somewhere that seems to have got the food, service, surroundings and ambience just right. We bought coffees, snacks, drinks and then lunch and never felt rushed or unwelcome at any point. Great service from the man in charge and the two female waitresses. Loved the salad selection at lunchtime. Great idea to mix and match. Well done to the whole team.

The best of the lucky days. Has a really quirky layout and nice staff. The menus are the same as the others. Highly recommend the blueberry scone.

We enjoyed Lucky Days 3 so much for lunch one day we returned the second day for lunch. Delicious creative cafe food and good service. We were there both times at off peak times and immediately were seated and our food came quickly.

Lovely service, excellent food - easy to understand - book a meal/sandwich and select three salads. I had butternut squash lasagne and it was lovely. We didn’t have to wait long either and the chap who served us couldn’t have been nicer!!

Me and my partner were strolling through York and decided to pop into this establishment after hearing mixed reviews we were a bit apprehensive nonetheless we decided to try it.. safe to say we were left nothing short of disappointed. I will never be returning to this establishment and will continue to deter friends and family from going.Upon arrival we were forced to wait 15 minutes to be seated without any greeting or explanation from the staff who were, for better words, running around like headless chickens. When finally approached by staff, they explained that on top of the 15 minutes already waited, we would have to wait another 45 minutes for food; this complete lack of communication meant our time was wasted from the get go.. we thought if we’ve waited this long then we could wait a little longer. Finally sat down, a quick browse of the menu was suffice enough, especially since we were so hungry. After 10 minutes of staff continuing to ignore us, we were forced to order tea alone, out of fear that our car park time would run out considering the pace at which Lucky Days work. An ironic name for a place that has nothing lucky about it.Please save yourself some time, money and disappointment, do not go here. The fact that they have been successful enough to establish 3 of these cafes around York is ludicrous to me. Truly distasteful service, not worthy of anyone’s time.

Great restaurant, the food was good although if you have trouble with stairs you probably should stay on the ground floor as they are a little steep.

When visiting York we have always alighted at one of the Lucky Days cafes during our stay as we really enjoy the ambience and the salad choice. We visited the cafe near the market yesterday and today and felt that the service had really deteriorated compared to previous times. Today we popped in to be told they were full and the wait would be 15 mins. Fortunately a couple indicated that we could join their table as they were leaving. On going upstairs minutes later there were 7 tables empty so clearly they were nowhere near full but the young staff simply weren't managing the situation. As we sat waiting for a coffee 3 couples were turned away being told they were full. The table next to us was empty and clearly in the sight of the staff near the till. There was little evidence of any management so we will be trying one of the many other cafes in York next time.

We used this lovely little café for both breakfast and lunch today, very good, reasonably priced food together with friendly and efficient service from Cecile and Jenny. The building is clearly old but has been tastefully decorated without making the space look contrived. This is the second of the three Lucky Days sites we’ve visited and is our favourite , it’s easy to see why it’s so popular; tasty, imaginative food, friendly service and an interesting space - what’s not to like

Incredible food and service! This was our first time at the Red Lion, we called in on a Wednesday lunch time as we were passing through the area, we expected decent pub grub, what we got was nothing short of the best lunch we’ve ever eaten! The garlic mushroom gratin is fresh, full of flavour and big enough for 2 to share! We then had the yorkshire puddings, one with beef, one with chicken - both were amazing. The portions are huge (they’re more than happy to give you boxes to take your leftovers home) the meat is very well seasoned and tender and the chips are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned perfectly - no need to add salt and pepper here! We will be back and we will be telling all our friends and family this place is worth the trip out … what a find! :)
