Met by a lovely host and given a choice of tables. Seated upstairs by the window with views of the royal mile. We were given complementary prosecco as we were celebrating a special birthday. Cullen skink was 10/10. Blaggis sausage was 7/10. Lamb wasn’t as warm as it should’ve been but tasted good 7/10. Fish and chips - large fish, crispy batter, lots of chips and a small portion of mushy peas 6/10. All too full for desserts but had tea 7/10 and hot chocolate and Scottish coffee all not warm enough 5/10. Some hits and some almost misses. Need to work on food/drink temperature and some refining and it can easily be 5 stars.

We had an excellent traditional Scottish breakfast- everything was cooked to perfection - including the haggis and black pudding. Both the Manager and Waitress made us feel very welcome and accommodated our requests in a lovely friendly manor. Ask for a table in the main restaurant, rather than the hotel reception - lovely leather seats and more ambiance. If it’s a traditional carnivorous breakfast you want - this is the spot!

It's like a sanctuary from the Royal Mile actually on the Royal Mile. Peaceful, relaxed and while the place filled up around us it never felt noisy, hurried or cramped. Food was spot on; my plant based burger was genuinely fantastic being cooked MR and not having the usual fake meat taste. The mac and cheese side would make a super, smaller main with some ciabatta and salad while I'm not sure the "roasted new potatoes" had seen an oven beyond being carried passed one, they had a tasty kick of herbs and it is the first time I have seen purple potatoes being served. Quite the novelty! The coffee was awesome and everything was beautifully presented; I've paid a lot more for really disappointing meals and wish this place was in Leeds!

Had a breakfast meeting which extended into lunch. Great breakfast, menu was variable & accommodate all requests. No decaf coffee available which was disappointing. Lunch was good, salad was described with spiced buckwheat but it didn’t pack a punch, a bit of citrus and more spice would have been great, and salt. Service was great, staff lovely & accommodating over the 5hrs we were there.

We arrived on a Monday night without booking. There wasn't a table available for us, so we were put on a table in the foyer, which was great. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to order from the pre-theatre menu although it was twenty to seven and it finished at seven. :-( Food was lovely - I had pie and mash, colleagues had chicken and fish n chips. Some of us ordered bread to eat before the meal arrived, but it arrived with the meal. Venue was spotlessly clean and is converted offices - a lot of the original features remain.

A late lunch or early dinner, as we had to catch a train. So, we were welcomed friendly and guided to a table. We sat nice and quiet, although the looks of the restaurant aren't really cosy, but from a previous visit we knew the food was nice. We just wanted an easy bite not too far from the station. We ordered drinks and food. 3 of us went for the Steak Frites. as I did. Prepared raw, not to destroy the taste of a very good quality of beef. Served with pepper sauce and fries. The steak had been sliced after frying and combined with the crunch, good quality and nicely salted fries. A dish to return for. I drank a red Nero-wine with it. good full taste, but not too much before a few hours train trip. The serve was friendly.

We had breakfast included here with our hotel reservation next door. The breakfast was a bit hit and miss. On the first morning I got the full Scottish breakfast, which was nice however I found the mushroom and tomato a little oily. I then tried the poached eggs and smashed avocado, which was fine except for the eggs were very underdone. When I popped the yolk, just as much liquid white spilled out all over the toast. On the 3rd morning I had blueberry pancakes which were delicious.

We visited Luckenbooths on 19 November. We had some trouble booking this place online, so had to stop in person. Not sure why this was though, as when we showed up it was empty! We each ordered a Sunday Roast. This was decent but nothing to write home about. Service was good too. The restaurant itself is very pretty so you feel like you should be getting a better experience, however. It was a nice meal but with plenty of Roasts elsewhere in Edinburgh, nothing to seek out intentionally.

Delicious Sunday Roast. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Limited dessert menu, but there are plenty of places to get ice cream nearby. Our visit was spoiled by a very loud group of 4 people sitting close by. We didn’t need to hear all about their fabulous lives and plans to buy 30 foot boats and how they don’t go to visit their parents. Perhaps a nice sound proof room would be a valuable addition to what is a gorgeous place to eat otherwise. I hope they left a good tip for being such insufferable bores!

Nice looking restaurant and pleasant staff, nice smoked salmon starter but we waited forever for our Sunday lunch the 2 tables adjacent to us received their lunch before ours and they walked in after we had ordered! We both asked for pink beef and it was very overcooked so they changed it and the second servings were the same. Very small portions, awful cauliflower cheese floating in a strange red oil and when we asked what it was they said it was a marinade! It was inedible. Only a tiny amount of gravy so we asked for some more and were charged £3 each for it. We ordered pots of tea and they brought peppermint by mistake. Very disappointing we will not be back.

We wondered around many other places and decided for this places because of the initial kindness of the waitress when we where passing by and had a question. Went back for lunch and had a great lentil soup, salmon with salad and green juice. We decided to go back the next day, as we wanted something different from the regular pizza, hamburgers and such offered around. It did not disappoint, great place, very small and wonderful views of the castle

This was my first time here, and It was very good! My only complaints were that the drinks came a while before the food & that the small breakfast egg was quite greasy. The food tasted great though & the presentation was lovely. The tables were cleared efficiently as customers left & it was overall a rather peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend.

Popped in while I was waiting for a restaurant reservation to try a whiskey and a pint. I really like the interior, staff were super helpful with my choices, and tables were cleared quickly.
