Lucia in York

Booked here after reading good reviews whilst visiting Christmas Market. Food was lovely and friendly service. The only negative is we were asked if we wanted some water for the table as we sat down to which we said yes please (expecting a jug of tap water). We were charged £4 for a bottle of water. Bit cheeky so just be aware. Nice atmosphere though and good, not too loud, background music.

Great food and atmosphere. Good wine choices, truly great Italian restaurant. The mussels and Steak Alfredo were highlights.

My friend and I dined at Lucia’s in December whilst visiting York Christmas markets. The food was amazing, as was the service. Our waitress was run off her feet due to the restaurant being full, however she still delivered top service and ensured that we were looked after throughout. We enjoyed the restaurant so much we decided to move to the bar to spend the rest of our afternoon before our travels back to Newcastle. Again the service in the bar was great and we had a lovely afternoon. We will definitely be returning to Lucia’s on our next trip to York. P.S. after all of this they were even kind enough to spread the Christmas spirit and mail us the fudge we’d bought on our trip to York and stupidly left in the bar area of their restaurant. Without a doubt, they really do go above and beyond for their customers! Thanks again for a lovely visit to Lucia’s :)

We went last night at 7.45 for a meal for three .The young lady that served us was excellent. I even call the manager/ possibly the owner and said this to her .Because people are quick to complain but not quick with compliments to young people. By the way the food was excellent 👌

One of our favorite York restaurants and always an excellent experience! We joined them on Christmas Eve for a pre-panto lunch and it was as good as always - lovely atmosphere & food. Many thanks once again! 👍👏🥂

This was our second time dining in Lucia. The pulled beef risotto is amazing. It's very flavourful and tasty. Service was fast both times we visited. We will come again the next time we are in York. It's good to know that our favourite dish, the pulled beef risotto is on the menu all year round. 😋

Very smart and sharp looking Italian of a decent size but best to book. We did so, but got a naff table by end of the bar area. Despite very good food from an impressive separate vegan menu way more options than most tbf) the service was very lacking. Don't get me wrong, lady server was lovely and excellent but probably had too much of a section to look after / dumped on so not her fault. We were ignored with finished dishes just laying in front of us on both courses for ages. Drinks missed too (comped later so fair enough). Would have stayed longer for dessert and coffee but could not stand the pointless wait and being ignored. NO check backs at any point. Really? Spoke to a male(a manager?)at billing - we had to get up to pay as no one was coming to us, never a great sign who was very understanding and agreed with my concerns and based on how successful this place is maybe it's just one of those shifts. It happens. But I really wouldn't want to be dumped at the end of the bar if we ever returned and not really rushing to do so.

Went to Lucia with my partner today and unfortunately had one of the worst Italian meals in a long time. The establishment is nice but the food is way way under par. The scary thing is if an Italian can’t do a simple pizza correctly it speaks volumes, steak cremated, pizza soggy, veg undercooked … not worth the money and would never comeback. Much better places in York to have Italian that doesn’t have to entice customers into a false sense of security through the decor.

The food and staff were excellent. What spoilt the evening was being asked to leave our table after 1hour and 25mins as another couple had been booked in. We didn't even have time for a coffee or after dinner drink. It has put me off returning.

The place is lovley for the fin diner or network, food is amazing as well. but the service for the drinks are a little slow.

My partner and I came here Sunday evening on the off chance of getting a table as we stumbled across this stunning place Friday when we visited York for the weekend mini break and it was packed. The ambience is amazing, staff are so attentive and the food was outstanding and the prices are so reasonable. We loved this place! The muscles starter were beautiful, came served in their own crock pot with a lid. My partner wanted the Prawns starter with no chilli, nothing was too much trouble. The Roast Beef was outstanding. Please bring one to Great Yarmouth.

Called last night & firstly I had to ask a member of staff could we order after being there 30 mins.Starters came cold & my wife's starter was the wrong meal,got through the mains & the puddings came out cold.we complained & we weren't the only people complaining either.We were given a £25 voucher for next visit.We travel to York & stay every year for our Anniversary but this experience was very poor & also toilets were dirty with tissue overflowing the bin I could go on & on but very poor service.

A family weekend in York we pre booked in advance for dinner Food , Service ( from Will ) Atmosphere fantastic. Great wine ( which were the same wines as our restaurant) Alfresco dining for late November very cosy and comfortable ( blankets provided) Great surroundings Look forward to coming back when next in York Grazie

Visited for a joint 50th and 60th birthday lunch. The service and food was on point. We added the concierge option which was an additional £20 per person but well worth it if you are there for a special occasion. The attention to detail and the attention given was first rate. Our host was Alex and she made our visit joyous and it definitely will be memorable.

Always head to Lucias for lunch when we're in York. Never fails to delight. Staff are fabulous, nothing is to much trouble. Food is lovely, ambience is stylish and very welcoming, surroundings and facilities are spot on. Advisable to make a reservation otherwise you may have to wait a while for a table. So many great places to dine in York but Lucias is definitely our "go to."

Serious disappointment for a restaurant that presents itself well. The dining room was cold because it was outside with a tent roof. To heat, very hot lamps are turned on directly above your head. Almost two hours! we waited for our food. After almost two hours, a risotto arrived that wasn't a risotto at all, but a loveless rice dish packed into a deep plate. The waitress didn't even manage to open the expensive wine for us (screw cap), let alone put the wine in our glasses. It was also up to us to refill the drink. Sad service for good money.

First time visiting Lucia; welcome from chap not so friendly moody in fact but very attentive waiter. Delicious olives and bread basket followed by seafood linguine and paccheri arrabiata with Italian sausage (extra). All amazing and top quality 👌 Thoroughly recommend. Finished off with two espressos, unfortunately served luke warm but quickly replaced by our lovely waiter. Will definitely visit again, so much to choose from on the menu 😋

We spent all day enjoying lovely York. Overall a dissatisfying poor experience. The food was cooked but only simply. Not recommendable. Expensive nonsense for very little. My friends were also there is a chef says this was awful. His restaurant would have resolved the disappointment with the customer. But not here they were not interested. Looking around other diners also looked dissatisfied. Portions were simple, plain and below value. We also asked for other fixed menu selections but were advised they were not available. Chicken Milanaise size was ok, small rocket salad and ramekin of mayo, main course was not. Could not taste any seasoning, bland. Friends main courses were similarly 'short' portions on 'bowl plates'. Should have included pasta and extra, you have to purchase separately! When pasta is so cheap why can't they provide decent portion to satisfy customers? Other places do! Imagine what the starters are like! Waiter was cold service and really should not be in this industry. We could not leave fast enough. We 'smacked' the money to them and went to another quality restaurant. We watched them cash up quietly. The ambiance is great but is not going to leave you satisfied, don't be fooled. The food should be good and feed you. Poor quality go elsewhere. Lucia's could at least provided a decent meal of quality, quantity and value. Our experience with other restaurant's in York left us feeling satisfied for similar price. We are not poor but we know when it's not worth it! This is a shameless place. No apology is good enough especially after taking our money. We spent good money elsewhere. No weasel words from the owner can rectify this. We can go back to York but not here. Make up your own minds.

Stunning restaurant and amazing food. So glad we found this beautiful restaurant. Great food, great service and a wonderful selection of wines and champagne.

the christmas market pasta was average at best. couldn’t taste the parmesan from the wheel on the pasta at all and then on top they put lower quality parmesan on top to cut corners and costs. Very overrated and disappointed

went out to meet family, had the best experience. the hot honey pizza was gorgeous! staff were brilliant from the door to the servers. so friendly and warm. will deffo be back! recommended to all my friends!

We came to York for 1 night & after seeing all the great reviews about Lucia on TikTok, I decided to book. Everything was absolutely beautiful, wow…. The food was unbelievable the goats cheese pin wheels were incredible & the salmon tagliatelle was stunning. Service was also great. Prices were on the more expensive side but for the quality you get, it’s worth every penny!!! Would definitely go back🇮🇹❤️

The food was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. I would also add that our waitress was exceptional. However the evening was spoilt by the fact that we were told, when about to order desserts, that we could not because they 'needed the table back.' At no point were we were advised of an expiry time for the table although I am aware that it is in the small print, at the bottom of the terms and conditions. We had my mother in law with us, who is 95 and naturally things take her longer. But no account was taken of this. I explained to the manager that we were not happy with this. But rather than try to be understanding or apologetic the attitude was defensive. They clamed we arrived late. One member of our party arrived 15 minutes early, the rest 3 minutes late. As we were about to leave they said we could move upstairs. Surely if they could do this they could put the next party there. Finally they said we could stay but we had lost any desire to do so. A 2 star rating may seem harsh but I believe a change to policy and attitude is needed.

I went there twice, and both times I ordered the same thing: Arrabbiata and calamary. The arrabbiata is delicious, its amazing and the portion size is great. The calamary on the other hand, very chewy and the batter didnt stick to it, it was inedible both times i visited. However, the atmosphere is great, the service is incredible and ill def come back for the pasta

Visited here recently with my friends on a York trip. We ordered: ▪️ Smoked salmon tagliatelle (me) ▪️ Steak Alfredo (@keelyvb) ▪️ Spicy beef pizza (@mrslinton15) Food was delicious as per and we finished off with some espresso martinis. Gutted the Christmas ones featured on the menu weren't available though, we were looking forward to a Ginerbread one 🫚 It was my first time visiting the York one as usually visit the Harrogate restaurant but that's closed down now. I'd highly recommend this one but you must book as it's very busy mid afternoon on a Saturday although they do have a lot of seating space

This iconic York restaurant has improved after a dip in quality. Very good veggie options and fresh lemon sole was fabulous. Always a lovely buzz atmosphere.

Discriminate against families. Wasn’t allowed in for a meal at 6pm on a Tuesday as we had a baby with us. Ended up going for a lovely Italian meal elsewhere!

Good meal here whilst waiting to check-in to our apartment. Arrived at 12noon and service was excellent, we opted to sit inside and it was really nice and we could chat and enjoy our Wine, starters & main meals. But by 1pm the place was filling up fast and service really suffered and our poor waitress was run off her feet. We would have had a dessert/coffee but decided to not bother as it was no longer the pleasurable experience.

We visited here on a Saturday late afternoon around after 4pm. Entered very lovely interior very modern. We was sat down by the stairs just on a table for two people which was fine, but after a few minutes it got very loud as we was sat next to maybe a tablet of 10 being so loud my partner wear one cochlear implant and he could barely hear me so most of the night we sat in silence, also non stop people walking past and the table was next to a window and people where sat on the other side and my anxiety was going through the roof and felt uncomfortable in general where we was sat, didn’t want to say anything because felt embarrassed maybe next time will mention it in booking notes if they read them because some restaurant don’t 🥲 we had a steamed muscles in spicy tomato which was a big portion but something I make at home noting special, he has the pork bell which basically was one pork belly cut into two but I guess that was fine for an appetiser. For main we had lobster ravioli which was nice but not made fresh like it would be in a real Italian restaurant and he had the seafood linguine which was average again nothing special would be better if there was some actual full tiger prawns added to it also very bland but each to their own. Dessert we both had the chocolate brownie which was very nice. There was a bit of a delay with one of our drinks had to be prompted to get it to us. Over all dinner was average nothing amazing.

A real 5 star experience from Lucia when we went for dinner last night. They were able to get us a table very quickly without a booking and were so attentive to my dietary requirements and were able to make a meal specially. Will always recommend Lucia for something to eat, lovely service and very tasty food.

During our visit to York, my family and I dined (twice) at Lucia based on a recommendation —and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, and service were outstanding, especially thanks to Emily, who was incredibly attentive and made sure we were all taken care of. Well done to the team. We look forward to dining here again on our next visit to York.

Amazing location and atmosphere felt like a little holiday haven in the centre of busy York. Food, very good, cocktails very creative and yummy!

This is the second time we have been, and it was perfect for our girls' day out. The starters were perfect to share, and the meals were all fresh and hot. We were seated inside to start off with but we preferred to sit outside. This wasn't any trouble at all. We would recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you

Visited here on the recommendation of our daughters. Nice layout to the place , spread between a couple of buildings and a wide, open-air alleyway with awnings and outdoor heaters. The food was lovely, and I can also recommend. Just make sure you book in advance

The establishment alone oozed with sophistication with an option to either eat in or outside. The food we ordered was out of this world especially the pork belly starter, carbonara main and the steak. However, the cheese cake was phenomenal too. The staff were attentive, very professional and from what we saw worked hard from start to finish to meet all customers needs as well as our own. We had a fabulous experience and will definitely be visiting again when we come back to York

The menu has changed completely, so I decided to try something new - the Paccheri Pistachio. It was very disappointing, to the point of being bland. There was absolutely no trace of leek in the sauce, and there was no courgette either, and goodness knows where the buttered breadcrumbs were. As a result, I left half of the dish. The service today, which is normally excellent, was woeful and very slow. Very disappointed.

First trip to York and decided to trybout this Italian for an evening meal. Great atmosphere, very attentive service from waiting on staff. And food was amazingly highly recommend.

Firstly I would Like to say that the restaurant is in a lovely setting and we booked for my wife’s birthday We opted for the Sunday bottomless brunch The very limited drink choice was disappointing the roast was very good When we asked for the bill we was show the amount of £110 , where to my surprise we was expecting around £60 And after asking why the bill was such an amount the waiter could not answer and made a seen stating he does not set the rules This has left a huge bitter taste in my mouth and I will also be leaving a bad review Extremely over priced and a very big let down for what was meant to be a special day

Lovely place for a date night. Food was delicious and the server was very attentive. We both had the Fillet steak gnocchi and it was incredible. The portion looked small at first but it was incredibly filling and tasty. Very good drinks selection too.

Hi, this was our favourite place in York and even had in my wallet an original loyalty card from 2014. until the 5/10/24. Lovely birthday dinner, until then we rudly asked to move from our table without any pre warning until the end as our plates were wiped away. When I fed back to a lady server as the table next to us were still sat at their table with coats on and they finished for quite a while, we were quite rudly made to move from our table by our server just as we had finished our main cource and was treated like a burden and inconvenience. Not even any mention of if we would like desert. I mentioned this, and I was told we can do in the bar. My evening was ruined. I appreciate that you were busy, but being forced to move and treated quite badly, I must say, and not getting a proper apology when I paid has left a bitter taste.

Had the best experience, food was superb, the waiter/waitresses service was first class! Eleanor went out of her way to make me the best dessert I've ever had.

My wife and i have been coming to Lucia’s for the past 14 years. It’s our favourite stop for dinner in York (& Harrogate when it was open). We usually stop by twice a year and have always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. But….. our last visit was truly disappointing. The food was so plain. The steak was bland. I opted for mushroom sauce. To put into context this has always been a favourite of mine, now it looks and tastes like a tin of Heinz mushroom soup, instead of the lovely sauce it once was. A side order of tender stem broccoli was always tasty. It had a hint of chilli oil and seasoned well, it was tasty, now it’s just plain old broccoli. No flavour. The fries were so bad I couldn’t honestly get my head around it. It begs the question, is it cutting corners to save money, is it a change of kitchen staff. Are the management aware of the quality coming out of the kitchen? We won’t be going again. A little tip, don't go on a Friday or Saturday night, this way you’ll avoid all the nasty drunks and they’re vulgar shouting at each other. The greeters should be turning away people who are heavily in drink.

Disgusted booked week in advance for our anniversary only to be told at 2pm no Sunday lunch left which we pre ordered. No call no nothing. £40 taxi to get there. Please avoid this place

Subject: Feedback on Recent Visit --- I had high expectations for this Italian restaurant based on my Airbnb host's recommendation. Unfortunately, my experience fell short. The service was below average, with slow response times and poor hospitality from the receptionist. I was even asked to carry my own menu to the table, which was quite surprising. The food quality was disappointing as well. My pulled beef risotto was lukewarm, and when I requested a water refill, it took over half an hour for it to arrive, despite several staff members passing by. I was also confused about the bread situation. They merely asked if we wanted it served before our meal, which led me to believe it was complimentary. Instead, I was charged £7, and they even asked to take the basket away while we still had some bread left. Additionally, I was not informed about the limited dining time, so when I was presented with the bill and told I had only 15 minutes left, I was quite displeased. Overall, I won't be returning to this restaurant again.

This place looked inviting so thought we would give it a try, staff were friendly, my husband had pork that was supposed to be crispy it was very fatty not crispy, we told the waiter he said he was a fatty type meat, I had mussels that were nice but the artesian bread it came with was toasted and so hard I thought my teeth would break, told that’s what mussels come with.Paid and left will not recommend.

Having been to Lucia's before for drinks with friends, I suggested it as a venue for dinner on an overnight stay with my sisters - celebrating my belated 50th birthday. We called in around lunchtime for a glass of fizz, and some nibbles - there we got to meet the lovely Nidele, who not only provided us with fantastic service, but she was also so kind, professional and attentive. We enjoyed olives, bread, and roasted baby potatoes with garlic & wilted spinach. Yummy. We had a table booked for dinner that evening, and had seen a particular table we liked, and while Nidele was unable to give us that table, she reserved as a similar one close by, which was also lovely. Returning for dinner, we were served by Ergun - again, so friendly, welcoming, and professional. We ordered some rose wine and were then presented with a glass of prosecco, a gesture from Nidele as she knew it was a celebration from our conversation earlier in the day. We were so touched by that kindness ❤️ our dinner then arrived - delicious garlic bread with tomato & mozzarella, mushroom risotto, breaded aubergine & pasta arrabiata with Italian sausage. All so very delicious 😋 we opted to miss desert as we were quite full, but Nidele came to see us, with a beautiful tiramisu and 3 spoons! Honestly, blown away by the attention to detail at Lucia's, it was such a lovely experience, and the food was great. A memorable experience for 3 sisters together ❤️ thank you, Nidele & Ergun, a real asset to team Lucia, we're sure x

Everything was really great. Probably the first one restaurant that I have nothing to complain.

It’s not the obvious place to take a 5 year old but I took my daughter out for an early dinner one evening. The staff managed to find us a table even on a Saturday. It’s an upmarket restaurant but they have a kids menu which is great. The kids mocktails were a hit. Staff were great, I will definitely go back again. Many thanks.

First of all fabulous atmosphere and service! My chicken skewer with chips and salad was a bit disappointing - 4 pieces of chicken and no chorizo - just a couple of bits of streaky bacon for £24 .. The sticky toffee pudding was nice as was the wine. All in all £45 … just didn’t feel satisfied…

Extremely noisy, squid inedible replaced with grilled goats cheese and the walnuts on top full of shell - so not a good start. Lobster ravioli has excessive amount of chilli which drowned out the lobster flavour completely. Waiter very courteous and took on-board our issues. Would recommend avoiding on a Saturday night- far too busy and kitchen obviously cannot cope.

Took my mother in law to celebrate her 70th birthday and she was made to feel so special by everyone. The meal was the best meal I've ever had and my mother in law said she hadn't had a meal that nive in over 20 years. We were not rushed or pestered by the staff in any way and felt we could relax and enjoy the while experience. Would recommend to anyone

Lovely restaurant. The food tastes so well. Service is spot on. I also love the interior design of the toilet, the wallpaper is lovely. Many restaurants are not quite thoughtful to the point of applying wallpapers to toilet walls. Lucia is not one of them, Lucia restaurant was so thoughtful that they added a simple but lovely touch to their toilet, and that's impressive. 😊 I was quite impressed. Just on the flip side, their marketing strategy is a bit funny (I won't want to call it dodgy 😆 ) the advertised price outside claims you can have a 3-course meal for £25 but when asked the waiter, she claimed that menu has finished, which I knew was a lie because looking through their main menu, no how you would be able to have 3-course meal for £25, just a marketing gimmick 😉

Visited here for our wedding anniversary, we were sat at our table promptly and them presented with a card a complimentary fizz! The food was phenomenal and the service was top notch!
