My husband and I popped in for a quick Sunday lunch before going to the theatre. We hadn’t booked but luckily we were seated in the lovely window area. The Lasagna and Tagliatelle Bolognese were really delicious. We were looked after by Sharia and Stefan and their service could not be faulted - they were very professional, helpful and very pleasant. Many thanks to Sharia also for helping us with the menu! See you again soon!

Absolutely terrible rude service from our waiter. He had a bad attitude from when he started serving our table and then got one of our order wrong (which would of been fine if he didn’t try to argue with us that he didn’t get it wrong when the whole table heard me correctly). The food was nice but nothing exceptional, not worth the higher price point in my opinion. Would not return because of this experience.

Mi comida muy sabrosa, mi compañero tenía por desgracia algo de contaminación en la suya - el personal respondió rápidamente y profesionalmente. Un buen toque de un cumpleaños - plato decorado fue muy apreciado. El restaurante era muy generoso cuando se trataba de nuestra factura - que habríamos pagado. Food was ok, not much on a plate. £38 for fillet steak only and a few potatoes. Potatoes were over done. Starter was good, sharing platers for two meats ,bread and two cheeses. £35. The staff were ok, we were asked about 5-10 times if everything was ok. Was it worth £195 for two people, not really. The thing that sung most was the service charge of £23. Wasn’t asked if that was ok.

What a brilliant dining experience. The food was brilliant the service was great and friendly and the atmosphere was wonderful. Spent my dad’s special day with family o welcoming the canal and beautiful setting. Thanks for making our special day even more special!

We got Antipasta for 2 as a starter and it gave us excitement for the main course, my partner had steak that was very good and I had the mushroom truffle risotto. I give it 7 of what I have had allover the world. I guess the excessive use of the truffle oil did it for me. We had some cheese pasta with potatoes in a pan as well and it was nice 8 on the scale. Yhe wine was great and disappeared quick. We got conplimentari limonchello and that was on óar eith the bill after dessert up to £195, hold on to your wallet!

This isn’t the kind of review I take any pleasure in writing, but unfortunately, it reflects the reality of the evening I had. What was meant to be a special night out with my daughter was completely derailed by one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. We both ordered the lasagne al forno after a decent starter, only to be served what looked and tasted like a disaster which you requested £16.90 for on the menu. The dish arrived boiling hot — not in a freshly-made way, but in a dangerously overheated, greasy mess served in an overused, dirty-looking dish (see attached photo). The lasagne itself was pitiful — barely 1cm high with only three thin layers of pasta, drowning in oil from the cheese. I tried to tolerate it, burning my gums in the process, before deciding to raise it with staff. They shrugged it off and walked away. That was enough. I asked for the bill and refused to pay for the lasagne. What makes this worse is that I’m very easy-going when it comes to Italian food. I always order lasagne, and I can say without hesitation this was the worst I’ve ever had — and my other reviews will back that up. But the biggest disappointment? My daughter. She didn’t want to eat anywhere else afterwards because she felt sick, and the evening I’d planned — one that mattered to me — was effectively over. That’s why this gets one star. Not just for the food, but for ruining what should’ve been a memorable night for the right reasons.

I had a lasagne and my husband had carbonara plus tiramisu and a pisachio dessert. The service was outstanding with a nice setting.

Bacon found in halal chicken pasta!! Please do not visit if you follow a halal diet!! I called up the restaurant and asked if they have halal options and they said yes they did as all their chicken is halal. So I went and order tagliatelle with chicken and mushroom and as I got my food I noticed that there was a something in their that did not look like chicken or mushroom. I called the waiter over and he confirmed it was bacon. The manager came over and he said it must have been cooked in the same dish. They didn't see how it was a big problem. Then another manager came over and apologied and said it was an accident and it happens and said they are cooked separately but one must have fallen in. He kept apologising but did not understand how much of a big deal this is. How can you allow bacon and halal chicken to be kept near each other. Absolutely disgusted. We ended up walking out. I still don't think they understood my issues. Please do better and educate yourself or just don't offer halal if you can't be bothered to educate yourself on what it means to be halal. God forbid someone had a nut allergy

Good restaurant, service was okay and the server would check in as needed. Food was very underwhelming and the portions especially for the ravioli we ordered was extremely small compared to the price paid for it. Good wine selection, our server gave us two samples to try and pick from the two.

Absolutely awful experience after we found bacon in a halal chicken dish. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody on the basis that the manager and chef do not know how the kitchen is being run (they could not tell us how bacon ended up in the dish), contradictory explanations and terrible customer service. The management did not understand the religious aspect of what had happened and I was shocked by the lack of cultural respect. We left the restaurant immediately after complaining and will never visit again.

I have visited Lucarelli Restaurant Mailbox many times, often with my family, who make it a point to dine here every time they visit Birmingham. It has always been an incredible experience! Every member of my family has enjoyed the food and service, and I’ve also brought my friends along, who loved it just as much. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, making each meal a delight. For me, it truly is the best Italian restaurant around. The staff is polite and provides exceptional service, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The atmosphere is peaceful, especially during the daytime when the beautiful sunshine fills the space. Highly recommend !

You are not a welcome guest if you come to drink coffee with dessert. The waiter even said, "Actually, we don't serve guests who come for coffee, and since there are few people right now, we served you. So next time, come eat." No, thanks! If you don’t want to serve such guests, then ask at the welcome desk what the purpose of their visit is. By the way, the coffee was awful and the cake wasn’t bad

Superb Italian food. Top notch! The photos don't do this place justice. Give it a try!! My daughter and I were in Birmingham for Crufts and were wondering around aimlessly looking for somewhere to eat. From the outside the decor made us think it was out of our price range and dressy but when we went inside for a nosey, the staff were so down to earth and approachable we felt right at home. Before we knew it we were eating great food in one of the nicest restaurant atmospheres we've experienced and the price point was spot on. 5 stars all round!

Very disappointed.. we had such a good booking experience, the lady on the phone changed our reservation to a later time no problem at all. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and then we shown to our seats. The place itself was really pretty and I was really looking forward to our meal. However the service we received was very poor. Couldn’t get anyone’s attention we only had one drink the entire time we were there because we weren’t asked if we wanted another one (we would have done!) we were pretty much ignored apart from bringing our food out and waiters had limited English so communication was a problem. We would have ordered dessert but we weren’t asked and the service was so poor we went somewhere else. Food was good but nothing spectacular and in our opinion small portions and over priced especially in such a cold unfriendly environment. Very pretentious. Wouldn’t go again!!

Food was divine, the Tartara di ton e burrata (tuna and burrata tartare) was prepared at the table with theatre and precision. The beef carpaccio was simple yet elegant. Our mains of monk Fish and tagliatelle as well as gnocchi are worth a visit to this wonderful restaurant alone. Sharia our server was attentive without being pushy and made our evening very pleasant. Highly recommend Lucarelli’s for sublime dining - thank you

Great dinner very nice restaurant

Been wanting to try this place for so long. Deco didnt disappoint but apart from that i struggle to see the hype. Other than making insta friendly photos the service was incredibly slow We sat at 7pm and didnt get out mains until 9.30pm despite them recommending we order them same time as starters. The food came and some of the order was wrong, but quickly rectified but my pizza was somewhat cold, and just overall food quality was poor. Taste was okay. Then we felt rushed to get out at 10.40pm as we were the last ones downstairs (despite the closing time being 12am), asked if we wanted the bill before asking if we want dessert! (We did ask for dessert and got one!) I would say dont be swayed by just the nice deco and nicely dressed waitors (waitors were friendly just to add).

The single best carbonara and risotto I’ve ever had, 10/10 service, super speedy as we had a concert to get to, will definitely be visiting again.

I visited this place for the first time, everything was going well but not enough for such a place, until we paid and the waiter informed us that we were actually in the wrong hall, although he himself seated us without any questions. The service was not very friendly and in the end we were disappointed in general. My delight in a beautiful place was ruined by this inexperienced staff when they found out that we were not locals and were traveling. The coffee and dessert were delicious.

15th February 2025, atmosphere was beautiful and very nice for valentines. Food however was very mediocre. Calamari was rubbery & chewy. Scallops were nice but portion sizes were tiny, only 2 scallops were given. Mains, Lasagne & Carbonara were poor for the occasion & price. Truffle Parmesan fries were very greasy. Drinks tasted great but we’re only 75% full. Waiters incorrectly served us food 3 times which wasn’t ours, but were very polite and apologetic. After leaving me and the mrs felt bloated and unwell, headed home and the mrs threw up when getting in. Overall very disappointed after being recommended from a friend. Could just be unlucky but not a good experience. For £120 I expected better.

The place is absolutely beautiful and very convenient location. However the food was very disappointing. Cheap noodles from supermarket that you can get for 1 pound. For the dishes that cost more than 28£ you expect “home made noodles” like we had in any other restaurant. The fish was very dry with no taste at all. The first piece of pork was dry, another one was cooked unwell, the last one was ok. We celebrated my nephew’s birthday and were very upset and disappointed. Service was very poor, we had our dirty plates left on our table for 15 minutes or so. Waiters were rude and not attentive at all. They served a sea food with no escalope cutting tools or water and tissue. Will never come back again and definitely won’t recommend it to anyone!

This is one restaurant we were really looking forward to visiting Lucarelli @ The Mailbox. We arrived for Lunch & were warmly greeted & seated. My wife ordered the Starter of Insalata Caprese ) Buffalo Mozzarella, Fresh Tomatoes & Avocado) & Main Branzino Allan Griglia ( Flame Grilled Sea Bass with Red Onion, Cherry Tomatoes & Salmoriglio Sauce. I ordered a starter of Penne Allan Calabrese ( Penne Pasta with Tomato Sauce, Italian Sausage, Nduja & Pancetta topped with grated Pecorino). For the Main l ordered Lasagna with Fries The portion sizes were great & all the food were excellently seasoned & full of flavour. We will definitely be back & try to do an evening seating. All the staff were first class & the ambiance in the restaurant was great.

Enjoyed view overlooking decoratively lit canal but did not appreciate green lights in terrace area and could not see menu easily Food was served promptly and hot was delicious! Halal and Alcohol free options were pleasantly explained on the menu. We were welcomed and respectfully shown to our seats although drinks staff served somewhat reluctant and unpleasant

I love the vibe of it and staff attitude is very professional especially Soumia Sharia👍👍. I love its service and how to respect its customers. Soumia and Sharia is one of the main reasons for back more and more. I love Margherita pizza and new one that was recommended ♥️. There are a variety types of halal food and they help you to select and try new and best dishes.

Food is good here. Carbonara is too salty for me. Fish is really good.

Third times there i think. Everything is mostly the same. This time we tried the pizza, which is nice and freshly made. Lobster pasta was the same, perfect taste and amount. Went there for birthday dinner during the 50% off promotions. Sadly we have to separate by 2 tables as the promotion is up to 6 ppl. It would be perfect if they allowed us to sit together🥲 At the end, we also got a "birthday dessert." Thanks for the service!

Wonderfully authentic Italian cuisine, expertly cooked with a warm and friendly welcome. An excellent wine list accompanied by a far-too-enticing selection of Italian liqueurs! Thoroughly recommended. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Birmingham, which may now be sooner rather than later.

While I had my sights set on another canal-side restaurant, a happy twist of fate led me to Lucarelli's, and let me tell you, I'm thrilled things turned out this way! Lucarelli's offers what I can only describe as "fine, fine food". The seafood bisque that accompanied the Gamberoni in Salsa Piccante was rich and paired well with the garlic bread. I won't be forgetting the Linguine Lobster in a hurry, it was a large portion and had the right amount of spiciness! 🦐 😋 The avocado tomato salad was the perfect palate cleanser in between dishes 🥗 Unfortunately, I was too stuffed to explore their dessert menu, but that just gives me an excuse for multiple future visits! I'm already excited to return and work my way through their menu.

The restaurant is beautiful, the staff are all helpful and polite. They even rang me just after I left the restaurant to tell me I left my gloves behind. The food was really tasty, cooked really well. Was a real pleasurable experience.

After reading some of the reviews, l was hesitant about our lunchtime visit. We were greeted with a warm welcome. The service for the starters and main course was quick and efficient. The food was hot and and cooked well with just the right amount of seasoning. I had the calamari starter and sea bass for my main - delicious. The only minor points was we had to ask a couple of times for a dessert menu, but we could see they were extremely busy taking orders/serving food. Also, the house wine is average/OK. Overall, everyone on our table enjoyed their food and had a lovely time

Only ok, won’t go again! Scallop big but cold, mussels tiny, garlic bread tasteless, calamari ok and my main the mushroom tagliatelle with chicken was the best dish. No nice wines, no recommendations on what wine compliments what, couldn’t add chicken to carbonara-was only ok!

We were lucky to get table at 5pm without booking in a holiday period. Staff are lovely- mix of Italian and local. Wide choice, slightly pricey, great quality including fish. Good canal views from conservatory section. Eric

Hate to leave bad reviews as this restaurant is so amazing and very attentive to allergies, however I came here the other day and they’ve updated their allergen menu (which isn’t available online) since coming in September, and it turns it’s unsafe for anyone with a peanut allergy to have anything pasta or pizza related due to manufacturing methods. We came here the other day for my birthday so as you can imagine, it was extremely disappointing. Food was still nice but obviously the allergen menu isn’t available via google when you type it in. I would have thought someone would have contacted me and let me know of this change considering my nut and peanut allergy was on the booking since late September (the manufacturing update was made in November 2024 according to the allergy menu).

We came here on the 23rd December for a get together with friends for Christmas. The service was 10/10, and the staff catered to all of our needs. The food was incredible. Three of us had pizzas, which were extremely fresh and tasty, and the other three had pasta, again beautifully cooked with wonderful flavours. We would highly recommend this place!

Disappointing. Venue is decorated beautifully but the food and service let it down. Seems more like an instagram photo opportunity than a genuine Italian experience. Food very basic and disappointing. Pint of beer was £5.80 which is very reasonable for city centre. They however charged me £1.80 for a dash of lemonade, which is the first time I have ever been charged for a dash of lemondade. I have had better experiences at chain Italians such as Bella italia or zizzi, save your money and go there.

Disappointing. Was expecting good things but I'm afraid it was average at best. We visited and chose from the festive menu on a Saturday afternoon early in December for a party of 14. The starter was nice, well presented and flavoursome but this was what turned out to be the best dish of the meal. A little over an hour later, the main arrived. I had the turkey option which was lukewarm, the small turkey portions were slimy, the spinach was like a pile of slop and was not fulfilling. My choice for dessert was the tiramasu that had the consistency of a vienetta! It was not the best and disintegrated as soon as it was touched. The staff were polite, professional but very stern looking, I guess they may have been under pressure but a smile would put your hosts at ease and make you feel more welcome.

Avoid this place!!! They are racial profilers. Me and my husband went in to the restaurant without a booking and the man behind the front desk took one look at us (we were dressed nicely, me in a dress and my husband in jeans) and went to speak to a woman who said they can’t seat us. Although there were quite a lot of empty tables, that would’ve been understandable, had it not been for the white couple behind us who were also walk ins without a booking and were seated right after they told us no?? Absolutely appalling.

Visited on 21/12/24 for a family meal we sat downstairs which in my opinion gave us a better dining experience being a lot quieter staff are very attentive and nothing was too much trouble,starters along with main course meals came piping hot and very well presented all meals including deserts were very palatable we stayed around 3 hours and all in all I would highly recommend this restaurant, it reminded me of eating out in Italy many many years ago we all had an amazing evening thank you all.

Atmosphere and surroundings are spot on and perfect. Very much Italian 🇮🇹 which we loved xxx service was slow but we appreciated the Xmas parties present. The food was so delicious but such small servings for the cost. Lasagne served with no salad or bread. Pasta ravioli served with no bread and there were 9 pieces of ravioli. We loved the ambience and love Italy 🇮🇹 but sadly the meal portions for the cost means we will not visit again.

First time visit last night with a party of three.The reception was good and our coats were placed in the cloakroom for us.A pre -dinner drink ordered at the bar was served quickly and politely.Moving to the main dining area which was busy we were offered a choice of where to sit and a further drinks order was brought quickly to the table .On ordering our starter courses we were informed that both that and the main had to be ordered together as the chef was busy and it made it easier for him ?....the starters (salad,avocado,etc)arrived quickly and were well presented.The three separate waiters were attentive but not intrusive.The main courses later arrived and again were good but I would have liked more pasta (personal choice).Desserts were excellent.On paying the bill I made the mistake of not checking it before doing so and later discovered a Service Charge had been optionally included adding a further £40 to the bill!! From visiting other restaurants in the city this additional service charge seems to be an increasing trend when presented with the bill.Maybe I am old school but I prefer tipping the waiters directly for good service and not having the embarrassing situation of asking for the charge to be removed .In addition by using the restaurants especially with a group of friends am I not keeping both the staff in employment and the restaurant industry going without this charge already being added ?

Hostess was very rude not at all receptive. Almost like she didn't want to be there. Service was really slow, staff seemed confused poorly trained and food was average with overly boiled pasta

Not sure why Lucarelli Restaurant has had a 4.3 it should be 4.5 at least, my first time going to the restaurant we were welcomed took about 10 mins for a table to be prepared (we were early) had a nice manhattan cocktail very delicious, and myself I had the fillet steak with mushroom sauce, Parmesan fries and a whole lobster to share with a pistachio cheese can to finish, and a couple of bottles of wine, the decor of the place matched the food it was pretty stunning, would 100% return!

Delicious food. Though message for the manager, your spaghetti dishes are far too big for one person. It is slightly off putting, no need for so much pasta. Otherwise, everything was great!

May I suggest that the following is removed from your menu as I am not the first to complain about this item:- FRITTURA DI PESCE (minimum 2 people)£15.50 (PP) Deep fried calamari, scallops, king prawns and sardines served with tartare sauce and spicy dip. I shared this platter with my Granddaughter and where you see plural for scallops and king prawns there was only one of each. Although by bringing it to the waiters attention an additional scallop and prawn with more calamari was brought to the table I don't think you can justify £31.00!! for a mediocre platter. As a consequence of the above I removed the Optional Service Charge of £44.26.

Had a lovely meal, we had a ragú tagliatelle and flatbread, the food was delicious! Service was good, they were busy with a few large parties but we got our food in good time and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Beautiful restaurant but it was a bit rowdy - not sure if it was the time / day, we went on á Saturday afternoon and there was one large (and pretty drunk) party of people, but overall a great visit, will come again!

I ordered a pizza, which was fresh and tasted quite good, while my companion chose a ravioli dish priced at £30. Unfortunately, the ravioli was disappointing, with only five or six pieces that tasted as if they’d come from the freezer. To make things worse, I found a hair in my pizza; although they replaced it, they still added a 12.5% service charge, labelled as “optional” on the receipt, though it didn’t feel that way. The atmosphere wasn’t helped by the occasional odd glances from the waitstaff. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Absolutely exceptional service, especially from Shariya- you were phenomenal! And the food was to die for. Beautiful restaurant and interior. Overall an amazing time, absolutely recommend, thank you!
