Lu-Ma Cafe in Merton

I’m a bit baffled by some of the people here saying it isn’t good service here. I’ve been Lu-Ma with family and friends about 10 times. I’ve lived here for just over a year. I have loved the place and the atmosphere each time. Im always impressed by the service and their willingness to accommodate you even if they are fully booked and the food is just wonderful. I understand that some people have problems with the portions but I’ve always felt like there’s too much on the plate. Perhaps if going to a healthy restaurant like luma they should realise that portion control is part of controlling calories and huge portion sizes would go against their ethos. Those people ought to go to the pub opposite, and not leave ridiculous reviews for the rest of us. It’s the place where I discovered Wimbledon had its own beer and my extended family always insist they go for food every visit. I’m sad while looking for a place to take them locally this time, my number one choice is out of service, Ive found myself looking every week to check their back in business. It’s tough to find a healthy restaurant in the sea of overly greasy restaurants offering 800 kcal+ per dish. So much for tackling this countries growing obesity. I would be delighted if luma could come back.

I love Lu Ma and have been going there for several years, but a recent visit was disappointing. Tables not clean, inedible banana bread and generally not up to standard. Let's hope this was just a bad day

Good location and attractive decor. Sadly, service was non-existant. We Waited 30 mins for a menu and eventually helped ourselves to drinks from the fridge. Food arrived timely once orders were taken, however, regrettably all 3 meals were tasteless and lacking texture or presentation. Post lunch coffee was unavailable as the machine had been switched off! No meal receipt was presented and a Service charge was added to bill without asking me prior to payment. Overall an extremely disappointing experience.

This place is a hidden gem in Wimbledon. I’ve been living here 5 years and had no idea! It’s understated, but all the food I homemade. It takes some time to come but that’s perfect as it’s all made by one or two very good chefs. The staff are super friendly and the Coffe very decent too. Music is nice and not overbearing. Perfect for a healthy lunch, and spending time with friends. Thoroughly recommend.

I read the reviews and was excited to visit however on arrival became clear that this wasn’t what it was made out to be. Firstly the service was terrible. We entered and waited to be seen to, to be seated. Several members of staff chose not to see to us. They were idling inside chatting. One of the waitresses stppped what she was doing and got us seated and this got the other staff members to get their fingers out! We took a table and it became clear we couldn’t have a conversation due to the awful saxophonist playing in the corner. The rancid sound filled the space and was uncomfortable. I’m sure he is very good just not for that space. Unfortunately we didn’t get to eat or drink anything. After sitting for ages without even a menu to consider and having that vile music forced on us we decided to leave. Basically it’s ran by a lazy front of house team and has awful atmosphere. Avoid.

I ate brunch there with a friend visiting from Auckland on Sunday 26 June. Food was excellent. Coffee delicious. I asked for music to be turned down and eventually moved inside (along with other customers) from terrace when music disturbed our conversation. Playing pop on a Sunday morning when you advertise yourself as a "Mindfulness" café is disappointing. I would eat there again as I want to support independent businesses - but only one more time if music more soothing. Such a shame. I only see my friend once or twice a year and this experience spoilt our time together.

Terrible service. Food was over 40 minute late. Some food was forgotten and brought out late. Food was expensive and bland. Would not recommend. patatas bravas was roast potatoes with ketchup on the side. Omelette tasted awful and tempeh was bitter

We were a group of 5 friends. Kept waiting to receive menus, had to go and ask for our order to be taken. On seating we asked what the soup of the day was, the waiter said he would find out for us. He never returned! Then waited an hour to be served - on the point of our leaving. Noticed others who arrived after were served before us. Did not serve the drinks we ordered. Then wanted to include service charge in the bill! We refused to pay this. It was very busy but organisation was abyssal. We have visited before and don’t know why we persist. Previously have also received poor service and billing errors. Soup was tasty but overpriced £7.10 for lentil and vegetable.

An excellent cafe offering delicious, healthy, seasonal food. Friendly, cheerful staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Great coffee and lots of gluten-free options. I keep going back!

Jackfruit burger doesn’t work. Sweet potato fries tasted oily. Very slow service, my mum had to ask one of the waitresses can we order as they were walking straight past us for about 10 minutes. I only live a 5 mins walk away so was hoping this could be a regular cafe for me. The location is terrible, right next to a busy, noisy and polluted road. The prices are expensive for what you get. I won’t be coming back here again.

We came for Saturday morning brunch and were excited to support a local independent cafe in Wimbledon given the number of chains in Wimbledon. However, we were left sorely disappointed. We paid £38 for 3 people for brunch, the portions were absolutely minuscule, I finished my scrambled eggs in three mouthfuls! I thought they were going for healthy ingredients but clearly they also think using health is a legitimate reason to provide tiny portions. Sadly, the food also tasted healthy (not on a good way) which is really disappointing as the concept is great and I do believe that healthy food can be really delicious, sadly not executed very well here. Indifferent service also.

Lovely artisan vegan food served in a stylish and modern setting! The staff are friendly and helpful and gave good advice about the menu (I have allergies). On top of this, everything is good value and I’d happily bring friends and family here. The pancakes are most recommended!

Outrageous prices! £££££ Always Wholly indifferent a d often shoddy “service” I now go elsewhere in Wimbledon where there’s a warm welcome and very much better value for money food and drinks.

From the fabulous freshly made juices and smoothies to the fantastically tasty mains, this restaurant is faultless. If you are looking for fresh cooked veggie food, look no further than Lu-Ma, the aduki beans are the best I've ever tasted!!
