You don’t judge an Indian takeaway on atmosphere; you judge it on food. We used to live in the area and always enjoyed the food. Now we live 150 miles away but try to time our visits to see family in order to pick up a Lowton Tandoori on the way home. The food has always been lovely, reasonably priced with good portion sizes. The staff have worked there for years and always seem to remember us.

It was the best curry I've had in a long time would highly recommend but remember it's cash only 👍

Well they didn't tell me it was cash only. But apart from that one blip, this is one of the best takeaways I've ever had. Food was fantastic, very friendly service, and it was ready when they said it would be ready. Will definitely use again.

Prices gone up about 50% in 3 years but quality gone down and forgot my nan bread.

Like many Indian food outlets you need to get a feel for the chefs particular taste when it comes to "Spiciness". Vindaloo is often the yardstick / The base of level of how hot stuff is. But different chefs have different ideas of how hot a vindaloo should be. I found Lowton Tandoori to be a little bit hotter than average. Whereas vindaloo is mostly a 4 X chilli dish (IE the yardstick), it's probably a 4.5 here. Overall though the food from here is outstanding and they will of course cook it to your liking. Just be aware it may be slightly hotter than you're used to, so amend your order accordingly. We've had literally 100s of meals from here and 99% of them were great. Obviously it's the chefs skill that counts but I think they also buy top quality ingredients as well.

We ordered our meal and drove to collect it this evening. Once home a main item was not placed in the bag, the chicken on the bone was almost raw and the naan bread was very doughy. Won’t be visiting again.

Lied to me that they dont do deliveries because I was at the travelodge

Not bad at all, it's Best of a bad bunch of Indian restaurant and takeaways in the Lowton / Wigan area. Curry's are pretty decent but Rice portion sizes are very small for what they cost, you won't be able to share a portion of rice with someone else. We use this place because everywhere else is so bad.

Wow… we’ve just had the loveliest chicken tikka balti served with the nicest pilau rice we’ve ever tasted accompanied by garlic naan bread, poppadoms as light as a feather & chutneys. Would highly recommend and really fast service too. Well done guys. We will definitely be going back

Just had takeaway from here. Not from this area but wow! If you've not tried it then give it a go. I'm well happy with what i bought tonight. Superb food. Seek kebabs are outstanding. Chicken tikka jalfrezi was simply awesome. I eat a LOT of curries and always make a point of trying somewhere new. Been bradford, Manchester curry mile. I'll travel 30 mins to collect a takeaway. My regular dish from around uk.Vindallo terrible could not eat. Very sour. Will not use again

First time trying Lowton Tandoori, I went for my go to Indian dish lamb madras with pilau rice and a naan bread. The madras was delicious but the lamb a little fatty, the sauce had lots of flavour and a good amount of heat, one of the hotter Madras' I have had. The pilau rice was fantastic. The portion sizes were excellent and from ordering the food it was ready in 10 minutes. I will definitely be back.

Our favourite Indian take away. Its a bit far from us but when I'm over that way it's a consistently good curry. Thanks

The reason this place is cheap is actually the food is disgusting. The order was wrong to start with, if you can call it food be my guest otherwise I wouldn’t bother with this place. The rat story put me off so gave it another try. I am pretty sure rats won’t eat this.

First time ordered from here and it was absolutely delicious very reasonable prices too.

So the guys at the Tandoori cook great food.. sometimes you may have to wait a little longer but everything is amazing.. and even enough left for breakfast the the next morning or possibly brunch.. my family love it when they visit - the children love Indian cooking. l must reccomend this Tandoori to anyone in the area who loves indian food.. 10/10 l put April 2019 on the year but it was actually in the previous years that l visted.

Delicious Indian food value for money

Very disappointed ..each time we come food seems to get worse. Plus this time despite ordering poppudums on the phone he was adamant I hadn't ordered any. I therefore didnt take enough money (as I took the amount he told me on the phone)... he wouldnt let me have poppudums for 2 ppl ..a very kind woman bought me 2 poppudums. Humiliating experience all round. Wont be going again despite going for years.

Ordered a chicken tikka masla this evening, and it tasted like water. There was more taste in the fresh air around me, not been here for the past 3yrs,, will not be again

Called in by chance due to staying at the nearby hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful supplying us with plates and forks. The food was lovely chose a selection of starters onion bajis were best I've tasted for a long time. Such a shame we dont live closer, knocked spots off our local curry houses in Halifax.

Often wondered why this take away had no food hygiene rating displayed.Now I know why.It actually has a 1 food rating hence the reason it isn't displayed.I have been on the Food standards agency website and they sent an inspector there January 2018Under the heading of Hygienic food handling It was issued with an improvement necessary order.Under the heading of Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.It was issued with an improvement order.Under the heading of Management of food safety....Major improvement necessary.Eat here at your own peril.

Have been using Lowton Tandoori since 2003 several times a year and wouldn't go anywhere else for my Indian takeaways.

Got a takeaway for my wife and myself here last nightWe both had chicken rogan josh with boiled rice which was nice.The shop is bit drab looking outside with rendering falling off below the shop window,Not a big job to patch it up and paint it as it can give wrong impression.Strangely though,There is no food hygiene rating on the door or window which rings alarm bells with me personally.

Had an amazing take away this evening. Decided to try this instead of our usual take-away and we were so impressed. Naan, popadoms with accompaniments and mains all excellent. Good value for money too.

I know this place has a very regular customer base which say a lot and haven't been here for a while. Chicken tikka jalfrezi, Pliau rice, 3 popadoms and a lime pickle £8:30 Bargain 5 STAR

Been going to this takeway for 20 years. Can honestly say that for value, quality and variety itCan’t be beaten. The chefs set special for 2 is more than enough for 2 people, papadums, starters, mains, Bombay potato and salad for £16. I have friends who travel 5 miles to this takeaway its that good

We've been getting takeaways from here for over a decade but recently the food has really decreased in quality and we've just finished possibly the worst takeaway I've ever had. Food was completely tasteless, we found hair in the masala, bhajis were flavourless mush. Had to throw it away because no one could manage to eat it, it was so bad. Only giving it a 2nd star because of how good it used to be before this fall from grace

Unfortunately I can't agree with other reviewers, there are much better Indian takeaways in the area. We found our food to be bland and lacking spice (even though we specifically asked for a certain spiciness).

A small Take Away with a good variety of choice of Curry's. Good value for money,but come with cash because they don't take cards.

Ask them what their council 'hygiene rating' is! I agree it's tasty, but I won't be going for a while.

This place does one of the best curries that I have ever tried, the lamb jalfrezi. I have even been to the curry mile and it is nothing compared to this small takeaway. I wouldnt go anywhere else now after trying this place, the only down side that i would say is that it doesnt deliver

Went there today. Staff brilliant, helpful and friendly, the food is reasonably priced. The Madras was spectacular, The Dupiaza, well my wife is very particular about her curry and said it was the best she’s tried yet. I’ve also tried a lot of restaurants/take aways around the area, a lot of the meals were just full of grease with little meat in, half filled tray and a poor looking curry as if a gravy. This meal was full of lamb, rich in colour and very tasty. Well done Lowton Tandoori compliments to the chef. Also about food ratings (I’m very fussy) it’s very clean, I recommend eating here.

We go here every weekend and even sometimes during the week. It really is the very best take away to be found. Absolutely fabulous food. If your passing then stop and get a pick up. You'll regret it if you drive by empty handed. FAB.

Had a family get together and ordered currys, for everybody, service good and staff pleasant one is big enough for 2 people.

We get take- aways at least once a week and the food is always excellent. Their chicken tikka is moist and succulent. Better than the chewy and dry tikka we had a few weeks ago at Chennai.

Enjoyed food at curry mile in manchester, Birmingham and eaten in India. This place is easily the best I've ever had. Eat here every couple of weeks. Great value. Be prepared to expect better from other places once you've had a take away from here.

Visited for a takeaway whilst staying at the Travelodge across the road. Chose Chicken Tikka Madras (£4.85) and a Pilau Rice (£1.50). Food quality and value for money was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to return. As described on the menu, the Madras did have a fiery taste and a rich sauce. Based on this visit, the Vindaloo would be a real challenge. The menu choices are very good, along with prices. Give this Indian a try, it's just a pity I'm not local to it to try it more often.

Excellent curry, best had in ages. Plenty of meat and a good flavour.

I won't go to any other Indian. Proper, big chunks of meat that you don't find anywhere else. The Korma is to die for... Any other korma just doesn't cut it.

As good as, if not better, than most restaurants in the area.Go early evening on Fridays and Saturdays as it gets very busy.

Good selection on the menu. I have tried most choices & enjoyed them all. Parking is difficult - best option is the pub over the road, but I always feel a bit guilty! I am fussy about the qality of meat - many indian restaurants seem to use dodgy quality, thinking that the curry will disguise it - but this has never been a problem at Lowton Tandoori. Inside would benefit from a makeover, but it is clean and the staff are friendly.
