The Farmhouse Kitchen is not the sort of place that will attract much casual passing trade; it is beautifully situated in a remote spot, a few miles west of Middleton in Teesdale, on a dead end road so, other than a few walkers looking for refreshments, the only clientele will be people who know it is there, and who are prepared to travel to it. Don’t let any of this put you off though, the meals are excellent and the portions generous. Sunday Lunch is strictly pre booking only, and choice limited to roast of the day, plus a vegetarian option. All food is home cooked, freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Our roast beef came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage and swede, followed by home made apple crumble and filter coffee or tea. For those who have not booked, or who do not want a traditional roast dinner, there is the choice of All Day Breakfast, or various options of pies, chips, gammon, sausages, chips and sandwiches, cakes etc. The service is friendly and efficient, and the location, in a converted farm building, is very comfortable and welcoming, situated in a very pretty valley with open views of fields and hills all around. We will be back soon! 2 things to bear in mind though: the opening times are limited to Saturday and Sunday only, Easter to October, and they do not accept card payment, which could be a problem when the nearest cash machine is 1/2 an hours drive away!

I like to cook but hate doing a traditional Sunday lunch so last Sunday we returned to the Farmhouse Kitchen. This farm is in a lovely setting with plenty of parking, seats outside, in the pleasant porch, downstairs or upstairs so something for everybody. The place is very clean and attractive. Karen is a friendly lady. We booked over the phone and were asked if we were okay with roast beef. She is very obliging so if you don't like beef she will cook something else for you. She will also cater for vegetarians if you let her know in advance. The food is nothing fancy just plain home cooking nicely done and plenty of it. The apple pie was very light pastry and enjoyed. We paid £14 each for two courses plus tea and coffee. Soft drinks are also available. It was good value and we will be returning soon. We would like to try her breakfast with their home done sausage in the near future.

Planned meet up, extra parking (in the bottom field) laid on for us to get things organised. Wonderful welcoming host, her 'All Day Breakfast' is a testament - not a title - because it fills one >> All Day!! Everything is immaculately clean and tidy, toilets ample downstairs access. Kitchen and most inside tables upstairs but some downstairs & outside tables too. Beautiful location and my wife & I will be returning soon for the 'Sunday Lunch', unlikely to disappoint for sure. Lots of milky coffee (just ask!) and in hot wrap paper cups, to have outside. Fabulous day, recommended!! tooSavvy

Wow .. We just dropped in for fish and chips, and they were amazing ! We ate in, it's very cosy and friendly ! We chose the meal deal for just £9 . Great size cod, chips and peas. All beautifully, freshly cooked. The cod was perfectly cooked in light crispy batter. The chips were lovely and crunchy and the mushy peas were yummy with just right level of salt.. best in the area in my opinion. Lovely, friendly and always very warm and welcoming. Thankyou so much We'll see you again soon .

After having several ‘tasting menu’ experiences at various local restaurants this was by far the worst! Bright lights, no atmosphere, filthy carpet, no table linen, paper napkins, chipped crockery, dirty glasses, bland food, no-one bothered to explain courses or ask if they were enjoyed, limited wine choice and, to top it all, we were charged for something we didn’t have! Would not recommend at all, try The lighthouse at Boylestone for a proper tasting menu experience!

Tried warning the restaurant that their current chef is a thief, who is currently on the run down there. Didn’t want to listen. Oh well. Play with fire, get ya fingers burnt 🤷🏻♂️

Easy to book. Spacious seating area and comfortable. Parking just across the road. The service and quality of food is very good indeed. We all had roast beef carvery but the other meats on offer looked equally delicious to the perfectly cooked and tender roast beef. The mashed potatoes were stunning. Likewise the jug of gravy provided to the table. We had a bottle of wine but there was a good selection of beers and lagers on offer. Highly recommend and we will definitely return.
