I'd already looked into possible stops along a walk I had planned. The Brownie Barn was a strong contender, because who doesn't like Brownies?! Anyways after climbing up to Simon's seat from Storiths. I had The Brownie Barn in mind and tbh that's all I could think about, after I decided I hated said simon and regretting my life choices. I started the descent to Howgill, after what seemed like a lifetime (I'm dramatic) I finally reached The Brownie Barn, as soon as you walk in, such a warm welcome all the staff are absolutely lovely, helpful and just genuinely nice people. I ordered the fish finger sandwich and a drink, and took myself outside to enjoy the scenery. The fish finger sandwich was massive and so tasty! Then decided to choose a Brownie. I had the wild mint, and hands down this was literally the nicest Brownie I have ever tasted. Absolutely lovely! The Brownie Barn is well worth the trip to, lovely staff and delicious food. What more could you want?

What an amazing find this was. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were regulars that the staff were happy to see again. We were greeted by a lovely lady who explained all the various offerings. Vegetarian's are well catered for in all aspects of the menu and there's also vegan options for your mains as well as vegan brownies and ice cream for pudding/snacks! Our drinks arrived promptly, followed not long after by our lunch. 4 clean plates and some brownies to take home (which are all gluten free), the views outside just add that something special to the place and we can't wait to visit again.

We stayed at Howgill up the road and we came here twice! Once for dinner and once for breakfast. Absolutely gorgeous food, brilliant service and gorgeous location. I could have ate every last brownie they had in stock! Oh and we had a milkshake brownie! Just to top off the luxury. The guy who runs it is just amazing!

Fabulous cafe off the beaten track but accessible down a narrow, quite bumpy road but definitely worth it! It’s in the path to many walks including Simon’s seat. Stop by for sure! Friendly and superb food (breakfast, lunch etc) and especially the brownies! It’s just great! The view to die for too whilst indulging! It’s worth it!

Visited as my son and I were staying at howgill lodge. We came every morning for a coffee (me) and a brownie (my son). Lovely friendly team. Delicious coffee. The most delicious brownies I've had (the slated caramel are my fave but they are all good) ... and they are gluten free. The breakfast / lunch menu is fab and really well cooked (and good portion sizes). Did I mention the team are just absolutely fab?

Having visited previously and really enjoyed their afternoon tea, when we found out Brownie Barn now do Sunday roasts, we couldn't wait to give it a try. We were lucky enough to get a parking space (free) at Barden bridge and did the very scenic walk along the Dales way to the Brownie Barn. Thoroughly recommend this easy path along the river. A good way to work up a well needed appetite, although unsuitable for wheelchairs / pushchairs. We arrived just after 12:30 and were warned they were a bit behind due to an unexpectedly busy morning (first back post Xmas I think). But we sat at a table near the fire and had a drink while we waited. The owner was very apologetic about the wait and made sure we were well looked after. The food was absolutely worth waiting for! Massive plate with 3 big pieces of good beef. Several roast potatoes which were beautifully crispy on the outside, yet buttery soft inside. 2 small but perfectly formed Yorkshire puddings, lots of perfectly cooked veg (full of flavour) and a huge side dish of creamy cauliflower cheese. All tied together with a jug of homemade meaty gravy. Overall an amazing meal with lovely food and service. The cost was comparable to other places that do Sunday lunch but there was definitely more food here. We left feeling thoroughly looked after, excited for the walk back to help our full bellies! It's a lovely location, but be aware, it's truly in the middle of the countryside. Parking nearby (to walk there) can be a problem. So if you don't have a plan, make sure you ask for a parking space when booking. They're limited but they will reserve one for you. Will be back again for sure!

On our way back to Barden Bridge from Simons seat we stopped off at the Brownie Barn. What a gem. More seating space since I was last there. More choices of food and drinks. Friendly owners. I ordered crumpets and pot of tea which was just what was needed after the walk. They now also do Sunday lunch which I think is advisable to book first.

We stayed in a lodge further down the lane, and just had to try this place whilst we were there. The Brownie Barn is in a serene location with stunning views of the dales. We were very pleasantly greeted by Lee, who was so welcoming and friendly. The barn itself was beautiful and cosy, and we were grateful to get out the cold and sit by the log burner. There is a good range of food/drink options for both breakfast and lunch, catering for all dietary requirements. My boyfriend is vegan, and they were more than happy to cater for him and tailor something from the menu to suit him. The food was amazing, perfectly cooked and really good size portions - it definitely fueled us and filled us up for the day! It was a must that we got some brownies to take home with us. They have got a variety of flavours to choose from, and the selection also includes plenty of vegan options. The brownies are to die for, and are some of the best brownies we have ever had. Someone couldn't wait until we got home to try them, they were that good🤣 All in all, a wonderful little place to stop. Whether it is just for a drink and a brownie or for a breakfast/lunch, we couldn't recommend the place enough! We just wish we didn't live so far away, otherwise we would definitely be regulars! We hope we can visit again one day. Thank you for having us! 😊

Called in yesterday for breakfast as we were staying at the campsite just up the lane. We sat outside in the sunshine enjoying the magnificent views. I had a sausage sandwich and my wife had Eggs Benedict and both were spot on. When I first saw the prices I though they were a little on the expensive side but when the food arrived I realised they were actually cheap for what we got. Not just the size of the portion but the quality make this a must for future trips.

We called in the brownie barn after arriving at the campsite next door in terrible weather. We ordered drinks and some snacks for the kids while we waited for the weather to clear to put up our tent. The guy who served us was brilliant and really helpful when we were a little bit stressed with the weather situation, we decided to go home as the heavens opened but was a real shame we couldn’t return for the pizzas in the evening. We will definitely return in the future when the weathers better!

Great hosts, warm friendly greeting from Lee, and his lovely wife( sorry didn't get your name) who made the cakes. Scenery is gorgeous. Only negative if it got really busy for people travelling by car there wasn't alot of parking. This didn't affect us today. Would highly recommend them

We visited on Sunday for the afternoon tea which was a great experience. Lovely building in a lovely setting with lovely staff (and views!) The afternoon tea itself was very good. Nice sandwiches, lovely piece of quiche, really nice small shot of tomato soup. Good scones, lovely small piece of passion fruit cheesecake, and of course some brownie! All presented nicely and all seemed a bit more modern than the standard afternoon tea. The price was slightly less than other afternoon teas we've had, and all the food was very good quality. The man who greeted us when we arrived was really pleasant. Asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and also helped to tell us where we should park. They don't have many parking spaces (I think the place is mainly for walkers) but we were planning on parking in a nearby town and doing a scenic walk to the barn, but we weren't able to find a space anywhere in the town so we had to drive to the barn last minute. (I think I've seen in previous reviews that if you tell them in advance that you'll be arriving in a car they will reserve a space for you) Thanks for a great afternoon tea with great service. We will definitely be back!
