Came here for my husband's birthday Came here for my husband's birthday dinner. First impressions were good. Chef in his whites in kitchen. So far so good. I have had surgery and because of this asked for a half portion of lasagna. I was told no but you can eat from kids menu which was fish fingers chicken nuggets pizza or macaroni cheese and chips. I decided against this as as an adult not my choice of food. My husband got breaded fish chips and peas. What a disappointment!! Frozen fish chips and peas. Absolutely nothing fresh which was probably why I couldn't have a half portion of lasagna as obviously pre cooked and frozen. Dinner was absolutely mediocre and we won't be back. Loudoun Hill you need to get with the times and provide for a much wider customer base. Ditch the freezer food and cook fresh . Frozen fish chips and peas definitely did not hit the spotdinner. Lovely restaurant with wooden beams, wood burning stove, and views over the rolling countryside. Warm welcome from the front of house, courteous and knowledgeable staff. Food is locally sourced and delicious. Lamb chops were fabulous. Extensive menu to cater for all tastes - they even have a dog menu! - fantastic if you're out for a walk with your pooch and fancy a relaxing Sunday lunch. Worth the trip and will definitely be back.

Go for the Steak. It's not chesp here. Steak is big, bold and so worth the journey. .. .. You could have pizza - didn't try that, pasta -my friend went pqsta, he would have left hungry if we hadn't cshared our chips. pasta portions were very small. My daughter more than loved her Scampi. The forth friend enjoyed nite Chicken Milanese.. .. Some of us went starters, some went pudding... For the four of us, 1 bottle of wine between me and m friend, some cider forhim, one of was a tad expensive. But so pleased I went steak. If You want to treat yourself, do it properly, and do do it at .Loudoun Hill with their beef.

A cold November day but a warm welcome from Fiona. We were shown a table right alongside the log stove and with a beautiful view of Loudoun Hill. Our lunch was good pub food with very attentive service. My starter of haggis bon bons was especially good, definitely recommended. My wife started with good cauliflower soup; she followed with lasagne while I had scampi. We will be back.

Went here because I had a craving for wood fired Pizza. Good parking, great location, friendly staff. But table was sticky, was wiped down but issue is with the varnish. The menu is uninspiring and the wood fired pizza was poor. It was heavy on semolina coating like Dominoes (if you think they do good pizza please go exploring) The crust wasn’t that puffy slightly charred edge you get with wood fired and the dough was tasteless. This wasn’t helped by the flavourless tomato and cheese. Come on guys you literally have the right ingredients, make fresh dough each day, and let the wood do its thing and you’ll have a wonder on your hands.

We went here for a family dinner. When we booked we just said 6 people for dinner. The staff didn’t look pleased that we had 4 children when we entered. I just ignored this. The place is lovely looking inside but the staff can’t be bothered with you and we didn’t feel welcome. The food! For the high prices charged here the food was not a patch on an average pub grub. The kids meal which was chicken nuggets and chips with some peas was 6.50. The kids were not really happy with the nuggets and when we tried a bite they tasted like really cheap Asda smart price nuggets. Which there were four. My wife and daughter had macaroni which was so bland and ended up not finishing and also added so much salt and pepper to taste. Chicken Caesar salad was probably the worst I have ever ate. Defo Pre made and sitting in a fridge as everything on the plate was freezing cold and hard. Chicken was so hard. Egg was freezing. Onion rings were great and tasted freshly made. Desserts were like aunt Bessie and so dry. I really think these have been Pre plated and sitting in a fridge or something. And the open dessert at 50p was because I asked for some squirts cream to try make it less dry!!! So my absolute pet hate of this place is the fact that we asked for three kids apples juice as we don’t like them having fizzy drinks. 3 Apple juice is a bargain price of 8.25. Pizza was average!

This was the second order made for collection during the troubles right now and was even better than the first. A friendly voice on the other side of the phone took our order and our preferred time of collection. Beautiful meal ordered and collected like clockwork.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. 2nd time we've been and looking forward to another visit. My pasta dish was very tasty, children loved their meals, my husband had the calzone again as he enjoyed it so much the last time. My mum had the Caesar Salad, she has never had one as tasty as this. Freshly cooked chicken and it wasn't lost in a bowl of lettuce that you get at many places. The atmosphere was relaxed and staff friendly. And the desserts are worth a go too.I did notice older reviews against this place but that was for previous owners. The pizzeria was only opened December 2018.I would recommend giving this restaurant a try.

Visited with my fiancé and 11 month old daughter. Nice relaxed atmosphere and wonderful food can’t ask for much more. We had antipasti which was served with warm fresh flatbread, delicious. As the fire died down in the pizza oven, it became very smoky which caused our eyes to sting and resulted in us leaving after our pizza. Think the extractor fan needs to be on from the start of service as opposed to just when it gets smoky. We could still smell it when we got home however it would not stop us eating there in future as I’m sure it’s just teething problems of a new restaurant.

Visited this restaurant recently with the family and was pleasantly surprised that it is now an Italian one! Very nice and very busy but we had booked thankfully. Staff very pleasant and took our order fairly quickly from a good and varied menu. Food when it did come was delicious. I had a seafood pasta dish, and the others had pizzas which went down a treat. The only downside was because they had a big pizza oven in the main area, it did get a bit smokey at times but cleared after some windows were opened. Certainly wouldn't put me off coming again and going next month. Can't wait!

My husband and I went for a late lunch just before Christmas thinking we were going to the main pub....but no its a little annexe built on at the side housing a gallery. It was warm and welcoming as it was cold outside but getting to it was a different matter as it was pitch black round the back. Seated at our table our server pointed out the menu on the chalkboard. Not extensive but adequate. We decided on sharing a starter of potato skins (frozen ones) but tasty enough with cheese and spring onions,so far so good. My husband had ordered the steak and alert pie looked good apart from the fact it was only a pie lid on top of stew which could have benefited from some more gravy. I had ordered fish (frozen again), chef I'm sorry but the west of Scotland is renowned for its fresh fish and seafood so why frozen? Then to add insult to injury It was accompanied by cabbage that I have not seen the like of since school, overcooked and insipid looking and overcooked carrots not ideal accompaniment to fish!

Booked deluxe room on Booking.com. Room is clean, as you would expect, but verging on basic rather than deluxe. No blackout linings on curtains, extension cable to tea/coffee tray goes more than half way up the wall. No bar and restaurant closed Monday's and Tuesday. Wee bit remote location, so if you expect to enjoy alternatives you need to drive and may find the small towns in the valley offer very little. We did get breakfast included in room rate of £75, which owner feels is reasonable. I have to disagree, having booked Fenwick Hotel at £70 inc breakfast. This establishment needs to focus on attracting returning guests and up the auntie on current offer to guests. If you are lucky to be there when restaurant is open....very limited menu on blackboard.

Had started as a nice visit, lovely setting and can't hear the road too much. Short menu, but nice food nonetheless. Breakfast was not included, I thought this was the idea of a BnB. Room was nice enough, except light fittings poorly On, towel rail came off the wall as I pulled the towel off. The Wi-Fi didn't work the whole time, when my partner asked about it he was told 'Well we are in the countryside, it doesn't work sometimes, try again later.' I know plenty folk in the country with working WiFi, just don't advertise it if this is an ongoing issue. Tv signal wasn't great either, kept cutting out and freezing. Then on our second night around 8pm a knock at our door, one of the owners asking if we had been smoking in the room, which of course we had not, we are smokers but had been outside everytime. She replied she could smell it so I suggested also asking the other rooms occupants to no reply. She then asked if we would be having breakfast there, which we weren't so we could get on the road as we were leaving that morning. When we said this, she asked one of us to come downstairs and settle up then since we wouldn't see them in the morning. Of course we would, to give over their keys! My partner just went along and paid it then, but I felt the whole encounter was just rude, to come to the door that late in the evening too. Don't think we will be back.

We just had a lovely belated mothers day lunch here and have no idea why we've not been before! The menu is short with only a few choices - but excellent choices they were. It's much nicer to have a short menu of well cooked, tasty food than a long menu full of ping grub straight from the freezer. The location is lovely despite the busy road and the staff are friendly and welcoming. A lovely place to visit on a sunny day when you have time to relax in an unhurried atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Not sure why this place is still up here, it's been closed since at least 2011 - I took a date there in March that year and it seemed to have closed down not long afterwards. They probably bankrupted themselves building extension for the cafe and visitor centre just before the recession really kicked in and I don't understand why they bothered to begin with - did they really think the overhyped 'Spirit of Scotland' sculpture at the foot of the hill and the tenuous links to William Wallace would bring tourists flocking? It's a shame as the food was always really good on the few occasions I visited.

having first visited here for lunch 4 years ago after having been in crosshouse hospital found it very nice and always made a point of stopping here on my follow up appointments but last year it was closed only snack cafe open which was very disappointing as we had purposely meant to go there so had not looked for anywhere else. been up twice this year and both times closed and "for sale" sign up.would help if web site was updated if it is the case it is closed or even put opening times on it. signs on roadside still say open all day and on pub too. very misleading.

My partner and I visited this restaurant for first time, and it certainly won't be our last. Food was delicious, well presented and very reasonably priced. Staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. Surroundings were intimate and music was just at right level, allowing for conversation. Only negative I can give is, toilets are up a flight of stairs which may be problem for those with mobility problems (beware last step coming down, it's quite high)

This was a random find on a drive from Whitelee Wind Farm back to Edinburgh. We were warned they'd just seated two tables of 10 so food could be slow, but it was only about 25 minutes, faster than some places. We also got complimentary warm rolls with butter and rosemary oil while we waited, which were just enough to stop hunger pains but not enough to fill us up. Main courses were all fantastic, I had the battered fish, which was a light batter so didn't fill me up either, and the creme brulee desert was divine. Family had the chicken stuffed with haggis, apparently not as heavy as it sounds, and the ice cream for desert, which at nealry £5 for three scoops is ridiculous, but the same everywhere so it doesn't change my overall view of this little place being a great restuarant.

I first visited Loudoun Hill Inn when staying a week in a nearby B&B; in September 2010. It was the owners of the B&B; who recommended that I try it for dinner one evening as being very good value for money. At the time, I had no intention of including it in the tour I was there to organize for 42 English National Trust members living in Belgium the following year. However, when I returned later in the week and enjoyed another good dinner, well-served and presented at an honest price I started to wonder if there wasn't some way I could take the group there, despite the smallness of the Inn. Just the story of the volcanic plug opposite and the history told out in the little Visitor Centre behind would give added interest.

I agree with previous comments. The man described who i believe is the owner is very unwelcoming especially to families. Childen only allowed in at set times, even when there is not another person in the restaraunt. In this day and age i wouldn't hav thot anyone was in a financial state to turn anyone away. Also on a very rare night out for dinner without children i was told i was not allowed to use my mobile phone in the restaraunt and then had to go outside to phone to check on my children. With their board of do's and dont's hanging on the wall outside the restaraunt i certainly wont be going back!

Just been to the loudon hill inn , the food was fabulous as always . Been on a number of occasions the owners and staff are so friendly and attentive . Lovely cosy atmosphere quite romantic . No misbehaving kids which is a big plus . My wife had the prawn risotto last night it was to die for , I'm having that next time. The trio of sponges is delicious and a great way to taste three different puddings AH HEAVEN !!! . I suppose if you don't like great food it's not for you . GET THERE ITS SUPERB

I have eaten in various restaurants throughout the world given that my job involves extensive travel and long periods abroad. I can honestly say I am shocked at myself for not having eaten here before as I live very local. If you want to experience food that has tastes that belong in a Michelin guide then eat here, you will not be disappointed! The pricing is amazing compared to what you get in other restaurants for the same price. Worth every penny and I will definitely be back for years to come. p.s. I have children and I see no issue with the managements policies given that it is very well notified on their website as well as signs within the car park etc. The Loudounhill Inn is well within everyone's budget! The staff were there when wanted and available if required. The small things that show real effort is the cleanliness of the cutlery! 5 stars!

We went here for the first time and plan to go back very soon. We had 4 adults and a 6 month old baby in our party. The staff welcomed us immediately, took our jackets and helped to settle the baby into a babychair. They even set out some baby cutlery!

My family and I have dined in the Loudoun Hill Inn for many years now and I can definitely say in all this time, I have only ever had positive comments to make about our visits. My grandfather is disabled and the owners/staff have always went out of their way to ensure we have the most pleasurable experience. We have also taken my nephew who is 1 year old and they have always welcomed him and made us feel as comfortable as possible.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone, we've been for birthday & anniversary lunches and dinners as a couple, and also for lunches with our two small children. We've always been made more than welcome, and the staff have been very accommodating towards the kids - we had our little boy's Christening lunch there and everyone had a lovely time. Super food in a relaxing atmosphere for a reasonable price - what more could you ask for?

Rotten service spoilt the tasty macaroni cheese. Ordered Mac Cheese which came with garlic bread. Garlic burns my throat so I asked at the till for it to be replaced with ordinary bread - no problem said the cashier. Meal arrived with the garlic bread on the plate. Asked for it to be changed only to be told it couldn't be done as they don't do substitutes. Thankfully it wasn't allergy issue!

Visited recently and could not believe how bad the food was. Slice sausage was the cheapest of cheap frozen rubbish from Farmfoods or the likes of it. Chicken curry was simply not edible, again cheap frozen junk and the food was over priced.

Have eaten a few times here over the last year. Visited again this week and was disappointed at the portion sizes that have clearly shrunk. We overheard the table beside us comment too. I’d rather be charged a couple of quid extra for the same portion size rather than see them shrink and keep the prices. The chicken Caesar salad look like a starter portion and the Tablet Sundae comes a with a really long spoon but a very shallow dish. Strange decisions have been made by management! Staff were very friendly, though.

This is a great local cafe. The staff are friendly and food is freshly made and tasty. Child friendly. Homemade cakes are also yummy.

Very poor service and charged 20% service charge without giving option to remove it, certainly won't be eating here again
