Sat there for 10 min without a menu or drinks order being taken despite it being all but empty. On ordering I was encouraged to order more dishes which seemed a little pushy. When the food came up it was in noticably small dishes. Taste wise it went from mediocre at best to downright awful...the chicken balls in particular were very poor, soft and not fresh.Paid 40 quid for 2 of us with only one soft drink each and left feeling hungary and dissapointed. Avoid!

At 11 am yesterday, we went to book a table for a family birthday celebration in the evening. When we arrived in the evening, there was a Happy Birthday banner on the wall along with some balloons!!! Then, when we all sat down, the owner came up to wish my Mother a Happy Birthday with a complementary bottle of Prosecco! The staff were so welcoming and attentive, without being intrusive. The food was delicious and presented at an even pace. They took into account one of the group's allergy to shellfish. Thank you for a truly memorable evening!! We will definitely come back!!

I was recommended this restaurant by some friends and I am pleased they did.The first thing I noted was the décor, it reminded me of when I used to go for Chinese meals when I was a child, very retro, I loved it.The atmosphere was lively but not loud, so conversation was easy, the food was very good of high quality and at a reasonable price.I will certainly be recommending this restaurant to my friends and family, the only reason I did not give the restaurant 5 stars, is the fact that the restaurant has no web site or take-away menus.

I have been coming to this restaurant for more than 20 years and this is my first review of it. We've moved away from Wanstead and whilst not far haven't visited as much as we once did. However last night a group of 6 of us arrived for dinner at 7.30. We were immediately greeted with warmth by many of the staff who remembered watching me grow through 2 pregnancies and commented on my girls (who were with us) growth (now aged 18 and 13) and how time flew. The food was, as ever, good, it really does do what it says on the tin. Crispy platter and crispy duck are always chosen by us as we really enjoy them followed by a selection of tasty mains along with rice and noodles which were all good. Service was a little slow for my brother in law but they were very busy on a Saturday night plus doing a brisk takeaway trade. My girls were offered complimentary ice creams and us beers and coffee. The final bill was very reasonable and the evening enjoyable. Yes this restaurant doesn't have much glitz or glam but the food is good, not expensive, the interior clean and well presented and the people are lovely so what's not to like? I'd recommend you try it for yourself

Literally a stone's throw away from our home. I really enjoyed the food and the service - some people were clearly born with a silver spoon up one's backside to suggest this place is a one or a two star rating. In comparison to other Chinese restaurants, Loon-Yee is a class above. They look after their customers and provide good quality food - well it certainly appears half decent - containing less msg and more natural produce and flavourings.

Looked horrendous from the outside. Decorations from the 1970s and standard fish tank, but at least it was clean. Got given a "premium" table right next to the fish tank. Couldn't help but notice loads of fish had massive trails of poo being ejected. Anyway despite this set back we ploughed into the 222 item strong menu. It amused me that part of the drinks menu came away to reveal what I can only imagine to be early 1990s prices eg £3.20 for a large premium spirit and same for a pint. Any way plumped for a safe bottle of macon. 15 minutes later it hadn't turned up as it turns out they had run out. Eventually they dug out an alternative which was actually very creamy and good value for money. Waitress was definitely not up for any banter. Anyhow from here on in things went really well. The food was all pretty good. I did note in hindsight that we had polished off all the complimentary prawn crackers which is unusual and can only have been because they were so tasty. Given the scale of the menu I plumped for one of the 20 odd "specials". Lamb on a sizzling plate with brocolli and send loads of ginger. The quality of the meat was typical suburban chinese fodder but the sauce combination was excellent. Also tried the salt and pepper chilli squid. My "go to" chinese dish. It was worldly. Just the right amount of snap with the salt balancing the chilli (which you could take as much as you needed of and thus avoid being over powered). I say this a lot but this really was cooked to perfection. Mouthwatering. Decent quality of egg fried rice too. Worth travelling to, way better than the bog standard china town fodder.

Sauces gloopy and unenticing. Menus were tired and offered far more dishes than any kitchen committed to quality could ever offer. The room smelt of fat frying. Don't do it. Although we have lived in Wanstead for a while we have gradually been visiting various restaurants in the area before we reached Snaresbrook and this very Good Chinese restaurant. It is very close to Snaresbrook Tube Station on Station Parade. It is a fairly large restaurant, but at the time we visited it was a very quiet Sunday Evening. The staff were attentive, efficient and quite helpful and pleasant. the decor excellent with two well-lit fish tanks and what looked like a well-stocked bar. The food was tasty and cooked and presented to a good standard. we had the spare ribs for starter and beef with black bean sauce and sweet and sour squid which was very delicious. The pineapple fritters were also good. The price was a little more than I expected but not extortionate, under £50 for a three course meal for a couple including drinks. We will return here to sample some of their fresh seafood dishes ...

We definitely recommend the sizzling dishes (the satay is superb!). Service was up to its usual high standard, and we can always rely on a friendly welcome from the staff. They even gave each of us a complementary Chinese calendar in a bright folder before we left, which epitomises the friendliness of this establishment. If you haven't tried Loon Yee yet, make it your next evening out. My wife & I eat here regularly & when we don't actually visit we get their takeaways. Loon Yee is easily the best Chinese I have had (better than a lot of places in China town too). We have never been disappointed with the staff, food or service. Previous reviews on this site about Loon Yee are confusing because they spend more time complaining about badly behaved customers which a restaurant has no responsibility over ... (with bad grammar and spelling too, ha!).Anyway I partly agree that the restaurant needs a little tlc with the decor... But the crispy duck, sweet & sour pork & sizzling prawns with corgettes in black bean sauce are all highly recommended. I would thoroughly recommend Loon Yee. Everyone I've visited with (friends & family) have agreed with this. Do yourself a favour & slip into some divine flavours from the east at Loon Yee. You won't be disappointed.

The Loon Yee is an 120 seat restaurant yards from Snaresbrook Tube station. Fortunately the seating is partitioned in two with 13 fish in an aquarium in the middle. I was glad to be seated away from a family group who let two kids run amok on their side as they lacked the authority to cope with socialising them. However service for me was prompt and efficient for my chicken and sweet corn soup, and beef and tomato main. Luckily the latter was placed on a tray heater, as oddly a small dish to eat it from not a large plate added the risk of spillage on to the table cloth. Beef not too chewy so no gripes on the food. However I was brought a Double Happiness hand wipe and then ignored. I realised there were no sweets on offer, but usually coffee is offered. Nothing, so got up and paid my £15.50. Clean, nice décor, shame about the other customers.

My wife and I have eaten here numerous times over the last decade and have always enjoyed it. We try to have something different most times we go but generally the food is consistently decent quality and the service has always been fine. I like the fact that they don't fawn all over you but just leave you to enjoy your meal in peace. If you need anything it's easy to attract attention! This is evidenced by the number of single people that feel perfectly comfortable eating here and are made just as welcome as the couples and larger parties. When it gets busy the staff simply open up the back part of the restaurant. The food is always hot and well prepared and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. On our visit last Friday we were given a nice basket of prawn crackers while we awaited our drinks and chose our food. We had our usual duck starter and then beef with courgettes and a pork dish along with chicken chow mein. Nice flavours and well presented.I wouldn't say this is the best Chinese I've ever been to but it's a consistent stalwart of the local restaurant scene and the fact that it has been in the same place for so long whilst many others in the vicinity have closed should be testament enough. We'll keep going back.

Oh Dear this place used to be a bit of a gem, we used to go most weeks! First the little chocolate at the end of the meal went, then prawn crackers that they give you when you walk in have diminished from a basket to around 3 prawn crackers per person. The service has diminished as much as the prawn crackers. We went there last night having not been for around a month as the last meal we had there was poor. We ordered starters and by the time the second starter came we'd given up waiting and shared the first. Some paper wrapped prawns arrived and they were sat in a 5mm deep puddle of oil, we asked for serviettes to dry them off but they were still inedible, we politely asked if they were supposed to be like that and we were told that it was because they were paper-wrapped - I m no chef, but I do know that when you deep fry something you have to shake it and not empty the contents of the deep fat fryer onto the plate....... we gave up, paid, and went home for dinner!

I stated I know what I want and vermicelli is for Singapore noodle dishes and that was not what I ordered! They were rude and unfriendly so I won't be going there anymore.
